How does the channel not have more views? This stuff is great! The haters have never had to produce anything on a schedule or on a budget, I guess. Your techniques are fast and "good enough" depending on requirements. Simple is good. Simple is maintainable. Simple is easier to modify when the customer changes stuff at the last minute. :)
Thanks Jim! Art-directable is the way to go. I’d been making a living completely in 3D for a very long time. I luckily don’t get too many haters lol. 99% of this job is working smart and knowing when to completely build out highly detailed assets, and when to spend your time in other places. As for views, meh, RUclips… lol. Thanks!!
You are really into old school techniques and you use a lot of old school work flows.... That's why I love your videos, I am the same, love box modelling.... So much sculpt/retopo stuff out there,.. really missing the old quick box modelling method.
Oh yeah. Old school just works. If I need lots of variety and chaos I’d use new techniques with crowds in Houdini but for lots of stuff, old school is way easier to control. It’s all about doing a needs assessment before first pixel 😁. I hope all is well there!!
This is a good video one tip i can give is you can just... drag an image from the desktop or a folder and you can just chuck it into the viewport and bam, image has been imported it won't show up in renders however but it is a major help
When I saw the thumbnail honestly my first thought this was somebody filming their ant infected kitchen and they were gonna show how to get rid of them. Then I saw "... In blender" So I would say: GOOD JOB 😄
Many thanks! I have to rig my Colorado Potato Beetle model, larvae first, then adults. I have engineers expecting me to get it done quickly, as they want to create a robotic beetle-zapper, and they need something to shoot at.
This is a great tutorial, thank you. Is there a way to randomize/stagger the walking animation on the emitted ants so that they're not all walking in sync?
Thanks! There is a way though it uses Geometry nodes. You could also make a few different trails and line them up to make it look more random. That would be the brute force way lol.
can you please help me with a quick question? How did you edit both sides of the cube at the same time? like when u changed the vertices of the cube on one side it changed on the other side too.
not 100% sure if this is the problem, but that sounds like a mirror modifier-- you can set an object to mirror points around whatever axis you set. hope this helps! i'm currently struggling with the subsurface modifier bit D:
This is so funny and informative! I wanna make a giant swarm of rats so hopefully I can make it happen (but in grease pencil cuz I want to make my short film 2D. ) 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
You’re welcome! You could do either or if I remember correctly. I’d need to be in front of a computer to be sure at the moment. I’d play with either and see what makes the most sense for you. One thing I didn’t really address is NLA, which might work here as well… or geometry nodes, which might yield a far more malleable result. “Blender… where there are 18 ways to do anything!” lol
I did something similar with the spiders in the Mandalorian video. The issue with geonodes is still randomization but it’s possible. Steeeeeve the troll is not happy 🤪
nice tutorial. but I personally prefer bacon and sausage sandwiches. (or muffins as they are more accurately known as in more civilized parts of the world).
Please show weight painting when the "with automatic weight paints" doesn't work. For custom creatures I've had much trouble with this. But like most videos you skip past this by saying "it usually works". Not very helpful. And, sorry to say, your interruptions by some weird split personality aren't very helpful, it completely took me out of the learning process.
I was considering it until the second half of your post…. Comments like this are why the Blender space is devolving and veterans are mostly back in production or behind paywalls.

Thanks. I knew that but didn’t do that because I wanted it specifically ortho, and my desktop is cluttered atm lol.
Awesome! An updated version of the old spider tutorial using the newer blender tools
Pretty much.
Great tutorial Kev! Don't let the haters get ya down, they're going nowhere.
I use them for comedy now 😁. Thanks!
dude the result looks reaaaallly good! like this is the kind of simple thing that just works so well!!
Thanks!!
I will definitely be studying this for a future film project
Awesome! Good luck!
great video big guy! Your second voice scared the daylights out of me, not bad at all. Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks! The second voice is coming… lol.

That’s awesome!! Thanks so much!
love the personality thx for explaining this in common people english
Amazing Work, thanks very much for your excellent teaching, my Brother!!
Thank you!!

this guy deserve more subs than many other youtubers
😍😍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks Abar!!
you might not believe me but i needed this specific tutorial now, thanks.
Very cool!
All you need now is a big model of digital food to be a reward sitting at the end of the ants' path. Would be awesome
I completely agree. That would have been cool haha!
thanks for another video, it helps a lot, its funny beacause the final result reminds me of the 2 harry potter film but with spiders instead of ants
Thanks! I’d loved the spider sequences in those films!
Nicely done sir. This is amazing. I can't stop laughing 🤣...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great (and fun) video as usual, finally got the thumb outa my arse and hit that patreon link! ;-)
Awesome!! I’ll see you on the inside. Let me know if you have any questions! Thank you 😀
Oh what?? That is insanely good!
Thanks!
Silly rabbit! They don't use the internet...
They use... wait for it... the ANTERNET!
Oh, SNAP! No, he di-un't! Oh, yes he did!
Oh no you didANT!

nice for me i used monster mash for the ant using ai and drawing over it with a template
Cool!
You're so good dude
Thanks!
It looks interesting
If I did, my computer would hate a lot xD
It’s surprisingly small!
Please make animated "Replicators" from Stargate SG-1 using procedural Geometry Nodes! I would love to see it!
Interesting… thanks!
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO MAKE THOUSANDS OF 3D ANTS
Me too 😁
Great stuff man.
Thanks!
This is so funny and informative! I wanna make a giant swarm of rats so hopefully I can make it happen (but in grease pencil cuz I want to make my short film 2D. ) 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks! Rats can run in lines too so this should work for that too. Awesome!
I followed through the tutorial but somehow my emitter outputs the individual objects of the collection making up the ant
Sorry I'm late. Great stuff. (The ANTicipation is over!)
You’re not late, your right on time! Welcome to the partayyyyy!
Thanks Kev! Loved it ! For the Ants to slow down a bit, do you adjust it on the Timestep or TimeStrecthing?
You’re welcome! You could do either or if I remember correctly. I’d need to be in front of a computer to be sure at the moment. I’d play with either and see what makes the most sense for you. time to make an earth an defense force fan movie
Great video!
Thanks Stefan!

Thank you!
This tutorial is great and hilarious! 🤣😂🤣
Thank you 😀😀
@@KevBinge You're welcome!
Great vid! Would be great to have a simulation nodes version, is it possible? Thanks a lot!
Actually, this would be WAY better in sim nodes now.
les parametre pour le suivie de chemin sur la version 4 ,ne fonctionne pas, sinon , dans l'ensemble ,le tutoriel est superbe ,merci pour le partage
great work, although i need to pause and repeat the video because its too fast.. :D, maybe you can create a tutorial for octopus. thank you...!!!
Thanks for the idea!
not a fan of the criticism "b" voice, but great video. would love to see it for geo nodes as well

i stuck with the single vert a bit too circular for my brain....
Hello, I had a question, what should the sampless value be when making an animation video in 4K resolution?
Great video
Thanks Wade!
@@KevBinge you are most welcome. I like your sarcasticness :p
Thanks! It’s my inner George Carlin lol.

Thank you for letting me know. I’m getting that a lot.
Amazing
Thanks!
nice tutorial. but I personally prefer bacon and sausage sandwiches. (or muffins as they are more accurately known as in more civilized parts of the world).
Muffins make great crumbs too 😁
@@KevBinge its really important to me that you know that I mean a British style bread product and not an American style cake wrongness. Thanks 🤣
That I don’t. Now I do. I learn something new every day! Thanks!!
what is the circle around the ant?
It’s an empty that I’d set up so I could grab the whole rig at once.
Nice tut! Don't give the demons too much attention ;)
It’s good for the jokes. I use haters for comedy lol.
what kind of ant is that?
I cant beliveve people hate on this I am a decent modeler I am looking to learn coding to make games with bugs and like smalland and grounded
People have nothing better to do with their lives than hate on other people. It’s a weakness. The strong don’t hate, they help others.
can u slowa a bit godddd
nice tutorial. but i personally prefer Houdini.
KineFX and crowds in Houdini are way beyond this.

Nice, but you should have used crickets with wings. And make them hop 2! Thumbs Down!!!! Unsubbbbb! (just kidding)
Lol! Locusts would be cool too, and soooo 2022!!
those ants are fixed in x lol
Amazing
Thanks!
