    If you want to buy the M10-D, these are NOT affiliate links below but links to amazing Leica dealers who do not pay me when a camera is sold.
    Ken Hansen - Legendary Leica dealer. Email him at khpny19@aol.com
    also, http:/www.popflash.com
    Leica M Bag: www.rocknrollstraps.com
    I used the new Voigtlander 50 f1.2 lens for all of the images in my written review and this video review.
    The Leica M10-D is the latest version of the M10 and it goes back to the most extreme of basics without an LCD and with a film cocking lever! Check out my thoughts...and...DID I BUY ONE?

    Wait... so they put an advance lever but didn't make it do anything? I got pretty intrigued when I first saw it had that and thought that someone had finally taken the idea from the Epson RD-1 where the lever actually resets the shutter. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

    • @FinalManaTrigger
      @FinalManaTrigger 5 лет назад +4

      Came here to say this, they should have had it actually cock the shutter like the RD-1. Shame.

      Same thought. Really wish someone would make a modern digital camera with a fully manual and mechanical shutter mechanism. Would be such a huge win in my book.

    • @vernonsza
      @vernonsza 5 лет назад +2

      I like the idea too but that would make shooting much slower. Part of the reason they added a lot more RAM in the M-P, was to allow the camera to handle a much faster pace of pressing the shutter. It would be cool if they allowed YOU to choose whether you want the lever to be able to advance the shutter or not. Maybe via the phone app.

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  5 лет назад +2

      Yes it is the most effective thumb grip ever put on a Leica M. Way better than any thumbs up design which I did not ever care for. This is actually genius and should be on all M cameras.

    I wish that lever was functional to cock the shutter, like the Epson R-D1

    I wish the 'advance lever' was functional like on the good ol' Epson R-D1. I would've saved even more battery power than just eliminating the LCD screen.

  • @raksh9
    @raksh9 5 лет назад +3

    Okay, the exposure comp and Bluetooth dial I can understand, but why move the power switch back there, too? How do you conserve battery while being able to quickly turn on the camera for a shot? Or are you meant to leave it on, in sleep mode until you need it?

    People are shitting on this but I think it's a great idea, whether it's done by Leica or a cheaper brand. Frankly I'm surprised it took this long, unless there are other screenless / menuless digital cameras out that I'm unaware of. Maybe I'm overestimating the audience but I think a lot of people would enjoy a relatively straightforward shooting experience that can be found in 35mm p&s or rangefinders, but with the convenience of digital files rather than film development.

      They make far less of the M10 D than the usual models, they are more expensive by necessity. Different body, different controls, addition of the thumb lever all mean extra tooling and work to produce.

    In March of 2004 Epson put out the first digital rangefinder and it had a manually wound (film lever advance like) shutter. I saw pictures of this M10-D and heard rumors about its arrival, how disappointing! I thought Leica had finally learned from Epson's 2004 camera. What a shame its just to look at. It isn’t easy to see the point on these cameras. But essentially automation in modern cameras is great for producing pictures, working as photographer to record weddings, sports and such. However when talking about artistic classic photography, the kind Henri Cartier-Bresson made famous, in which you take your time to think about the philosophy behind a certain space, the feelings a certain subject would generate and the evident effort you as a photographer have to go through to obtain those pictures is quite an experience. The fact that is much harder to nail focus with a Leica M, you start caring less about sharpness and more about composition, you also start gaining respect for unique moments that happen in a blink of an eye, you suddenly don’t care about showing off the incredible quality of your photos in terms of color density and dynamic range, but the quality of the emotions you make people feel when seeing your pictures. Finally, the Leica M10-D also helps to separate the process of taking a picture from the process of revealing said picture, for that matter the photographs are seemingly more exciting to edit and to develop, the element of surprise and enjoying when editing is superb, and it comes from the fact that it was built by the prelude of taking the picture without knowing exactly how the picture came out. Leica M10-D provides an opportunity for photographers to craft an image instead of just taking it by pressing the shutter, to anticipate the moment of developing and editing your images and to enjoy each process truly separately. The worst thing about the comments against Leica M system comes from people who have never owned one, as an owner my self, it’s very counterintuitive.

      If you want to be hardcore old school and "craft" the image as you say, shoot with a Leica III. Now that's what I call getting back to basics!

    Wanted to have the cocking lever to have the same function as the Epson RD-1 that would make the battery last for a much longer time. Hopefully they will do this on the M16-D. LoL. I dont like the sound of M11 so I would wait till the M16-D comes out lol.

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  5 лет назад +1

      As with the previous M-D no. Less is more in two ways. IN the enjoyment and using the camera and in price. The lack of features IS the main feature, and quite a few out there love this concept. It's also unique, so you can not get a camera like this from answer else. IT's also low volume production as not many will buy, so price is higher also due to that.

    • @peasantrobot
      @peasantrobot 5 лет назад

      I really love the concept but let's be honest here. Fujifilm could do the same and for a right price! Why they don't do it? They definitely should as is an amazing way to get the prices down. If I remember right, would not be the first time they make a real rangefinder. But that means a fixed lens, that would save them from the obligation of making an entire new series of rangefinder compatible lenses. And if is still a fixed lens, they can throw there a full frame X-Trans sensor (for an amazing film look, 'til the organic sensor arrives).

    This could be a foretaste of the future with cameras linked to an iPhone app, Zeiss already have a similar concept camera, but, I have to ask, who is it for? Is it for Leica fanboys who are so rich that they can have a camera like this for $8K without blinking an eye at shelling out $8000?. I have a camera which is similar in that I cannot chimp images, gives great results, which I got for less than £100, OK, it's film and it's called the Olympus Mju ii with fixed (high quality) 35mm F2.8 lens. I love it and I use it a lot for street photography. I am either on the wrong site here, but I do like Steve's love for the quality of the things he reviews. I could never justify buying this, I can't even afford some of the ancilliary things he recommends, like luxury camera bags and straps, but I've just got to love this guy for his enthusiasm and I love reading his crazy reviews. If you know you want this camera, go buy it, if it makes you happy, life is too short for regrets and accepting mediocrity.

    You've gone too far with swallow dof on your videos imho. seeing parts of your face going in and out of focus all the time isn't comfortable. we get spoiled by the amazing technology we have on our hands sometimes

    You sold your original Leica M-D to me and I still love and use it everyday. I shoot paid work and wildlife photography with my Nikon D5 but for everything else, you can’t beat the user experience of a Leica and a M-D especially x

    Here is an idea! Take that phone screen and put it on the back of the camera.

    hmmmm... I'm wondering how much more fun it would be to not be able to see any of the pictures using the camera... I may try this out (as close as I can get it on my XT-2)... I think... if that functionality of this camera is a big part of what makes it more fun - we can just do it on most other cameras without having to pay $8,000 - particularly on cameras like an X-Pro2, X100f, and other rangefinger(ish) cameras.

    It's better if it works as Save as raw, rather than just some additional thumb grip

    • @HiFiHuff

      This camera only shoots RAW. You can change it in the app but the M-D is meant to shoot only raw.

    That's Nietzsche and that's niche (without a "t"). A niche is a kennel : a very small (dog)house in a bigger one.

    $8000 for this?
    Wow, Leica is high, real high.
    Now if they sold this bare bones thing for $1000 then it might be worth it just for the fun of using this art camera like a film camera.
    Hell I might buy it for $2000 just for the notalgia, but $8000? Jesus no.
