That’s awesome. Welcome aboard. I’ve not released a new video for a while. A change of job has has left me a bit short of time but I’m hoping to get out again soon!!! Glad you enjoyed the videos so far 😊
That was a great use of the Kelly Kettle base from below and above the pie! I gave a subscribe to see more and in support of other small channels like mine with my son👍
Thanks for checking out my video. The Kelly kettle is more versatile than most people realise. I’ve had lots of fun experimenting and creating cooking videos. Can’t wait to get out with it again! Thanks for subscribing!
Thank you Ray. Can’t believe Christmas is nearly upon us - hoping to get out there and squeeze in one more video before I hit the mulled wine! Happy Christmas to you too. Cheers, Neil
missing, brown sugar, nutmeg, and small marshmellows. and perhaps a graham cracker and butter crust, instead of the tortilla. non-stick spray or parchment paper (oiled) to help with the release. use the KK plates one for a pie pan, one for a cover both above and below the base/hobo stove. if you ever desire to revisit this.
Thank you. Marshmallows would have been a great addition! I’d like to try a pumpkin pie one day too, think I’ll try a proper base and the plates technique on that one. Cheers. Neil
I think you could use the plate as the bottom and the pot lid as the top and do everything else the same and when you were done you would be eating off the plate you cooked it in so if it’s stuck it wouldn’t matter.
The plates are definitely worth bringing into the mix. I’ve also used them as frying pans in later videos. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy my other videos too
Nice one, brother. I'm starting to think the edge on the pan is too sharp for your meals that have a crust. You got me thinking about a pumpkin cheesecake that I make. I'm thinking of using a ginger snap crumble crust & making it in a small hard anodized pan, using a camp plate as the lid so I can add coals on top. I've already got a good dehydrated recipe for backpacking & I think you've given me the way to make it better. I love what you are doing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. I’m guessing you meaning the folding knife with the wooden handle, if so that is an Opinel number 12 - carbon steel. That particular knife I bought from France whilst on a school trip. They still make and sell them though. They are not expensive and exceptionally good knives. Mine is 30 odd years old now!
@@phillippmorris4109 not a problem! I did mean to comment on your location. I’ve come as close as riding the Talimena Scenic Byway but I hear the Ozarks are beautiful - one day maybe!
Wonderful! Thank you. When you said, "Not the prettiest pie, I howled with laughter. You did excellently, but I do have a few suggestions. Please understand they're well meant. I think you should add a sheet of aluminum foil to your Kelly Kettle bag. You can put it down under the base, and it should stop or minimize burning whatever you have your kit set up on, and I think it would help continue cooking the crust. I think you'd almost have a mini oven. You might want to try covering the pie when it's on the top to keep in more heat For your next al fresco culinary adventure, you might want to try a pizza. Do the grocers have pizza crusts for sale there? I've been in some stores that have pizza dough ready to roll out and other stores have flat sheets. I make my crust from scratch with yeast, you could do that at home and bring a piece of dough with you. Good job, great fun, thanks again, and a slightly belated happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Kenneth. Thank you for spending the time commenting, all comments are much appreciated! Yes, “not the prettiest pie” was bit of an understatement but I have to be polite for RUclips 😂. A bit of tin foil would be a great idea! I do usually use the pot stand as I love to leave no trace but I needed the insulation for the recipe, sounds like foil would fix this. Thanks for the suggestion, pizza is one of my favourites so I think I’ll have to give that one a go with a bit of homemade dough 😉. Thank again, glad you are enjoying the channel (there’s a video up now for a steamed chocolate fudge cake if that appeals to you?), and a belated happy Thanksgiving to you too. Cheers. Neil
Good video the only thing wrong was out of your control .you couldn't regulat the heat it was to hot. I just started using the Kelly kettle myself & enjoying every minute
Watching your video, was wondering if you could use the same method as in ruclips.net/video/zUm4r21UxCM/видео.html where he uses a layer of tinfoil to create an airgap so you could bake a biscuit to cook an actual crust (or modified biscuit crust) for the pie. Just thinking, so not saying it's 100%, just an idea to start with. Would love to see more Kelly Kettle Cooking ideas.
Thanks for the link, that looks an interesting technique. In a later video of mine I steam a chocolate cake using the mug and pan from the KK kit. I have toyed with the idea of scaling this up with a domestic saucepan to make an oven, like you point out, having an air gap would make a stove top oven possible. There’s several other cooking videos on my channel you might like (assuming you’ve not already stumbled across them). Thanks for checking out this recipe and taking the time to comment. Cheers. Neil
Ingenious use of base unit. I've watched a few of your videos now but for this one alone I'm now subscribed!

Nice baking method!
Thank you! Thinking I should have pre-baked the crust / tortilla first 🤔. Maybe next time. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

Brilliant techniques using using this Kettle!
Thanks. It’s good fun experimenting. Can’t wait to get out in the next few days to cook up something new. I’m thinking pizza may be on the menu…🤔
Probably should call the channel the Hairy Hikers 😉🤣👍
😂That would be a brilliant name for a channel
Good idea to put your plate over the pan to save time, fuel etc. Kelly kettle is the by far the best kit.
Thanks for leaving a comment, glad you enjoyed the video. I do like my Kelly Kettle! It’s a surprisingly versatile bit of kit isn’t it!
When I lived in the states we use to add marshmallows well done 👍🏻
Why didn’t I know this sooner! 😂. I do like marshmallows

Try a little spray bottle of "Pam" spray or whatever they call it in other countries..."non-stick spray" of sorts...otherwise, looks great!
Great suggestion, thank you. We have spray oil readily available in the UK which should work. 🤞

Made my comment and see you have basically the same thing with much more detail. Sorry I duplicated ya.

Fantastic bit of kit isn’t it! You’re right, controlling the heat is the tricky part, makes it fun though! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
It sure looked tasty, and like you say just in time for Thanksgiving.
It tasted better than it looked! 😂
Couldn't you have a silicone liner cut to size for the bottom of the pan? It would add virtually no weight. I'm going to try that tomorrow.
That might have saved it from looking such a mess 😂. Good luck for tomorrow
