    As someone who shares the same standard IPD, I have to agree that IPD adjustment is not the biggest obstacle when it comes to virtual reality headsets. In fact, I believe that the lack of hardware IPD adjustment might actually contribute to a wider FOV, which is a big plus!
    The video has shed light on the fact that not having IPD adjustment on a PCVR headset may not be as limiting as one might think. The argument that it actually allows for a larger FOV is intriguing and makes sense. It's refreshing to see a different perspective on this topic.
    As a VR enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for reasonably priced PCVR headsets that are lightweight and offer a great experience. Based on the appearance shown in the video, I would definitely consider buying this headset. The sleek design and form factor are appealing, and if it comes at a reasonable price point, it's definitely worth considering.
    I appreciate the insights shared in the video and the different perspective on IPD adjustment. Thank you!!! really nice review

      Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! It’s definitely a good intro level pcvr headsets, although I hope they’ll be able to address some of the flaws that are still present. I agree, most likely the physical ipd adjustment was dropped to keep the headset light and fov large, not the best decision for accessibility, but as software based ipd improves hopefully it’ll be able to effectively accommodate more and more users!

      About 5% deviate from the IPD standard worldwide, which is quite a lot of people. There was a generation of VR headsets that tried to get by without physical IPD adjustment (WMR, PSVR1, Oculus GO, Rift S, HP Reverb G1) but I'm glad that most of the well-known manufacturers are now back to physical IPD.

    • @vinesvege4286
      @vinesvege4286 Год назад

      @@Bamuxx Yes, you're right. 5% is indeed a lot of people. However, not everyone needs physical IPD adjustment. If the physical IPD adjustment is deliberately removed in order to achieve a larger FOV, then I can understand that.

    • @Bamuxx
      @Bamuxx Год назад +1

      @@vinesvege4286 You have to see it from the perspective of the 5%. Accessibility should be a priority in the development of products. Imagine the outcry if VR headsets were only developed for people without glasses. It would exclude almost every second person.
      In this case, of course, it's no drama because there are enough alternatives, but without criticism, manufacturers easily get the idea that it's not financially worthwhile to support the 5%.

    Everyone keeps mentioning the video quality of DP versus compression, but the real killer is the latency that comes with compression. You can't get rid of it, and it's why headsets that add PCVR support as an afterthought using compressed video will never be the equivalent of real PCVR headsets.

    • @thenonexistinghero

      Sounds like someone who hasn't used it. Only matters for really intense high-speed gameplay like high-difficulty Beat Saber or competitive shooting games. The latency is more than fine for anything else. And that's with the weak XR2 gen 1 chip. This issue will likely be fixed when these standalone headsets start to use a more powerful chip.

    I think my biggest concern with the flip-up design is the facial interface issue you highlighted
    When you pull the headset forward, you are putting a lot more stress on the hinge than it is designed for. I might reposition the headset by gripping the sides of the halo, or wrapping my hand over the top in front of the halo to reposition. A minor inconvenience, but more preferable than breaking the hinge after a year of use.
    Of course, I hope they hold up better than that. Only time will tell if this design becomes more popular. It has always been my favorite!

    Software IPD Adjustment does not work if you deviate too far from 64 mm, because then you are no longer in the sweet spot and the image looks blurred. MRTV reported that this headset has an unusually large sweet spot and more binocular overlap than usual as well. That could mean that the design intention is for the sweet spot to be large enough that physical IPD adjustment of the lenses isn't needed and would make little to no difference anyway.
      We need to here from people trying this headset who have different IPDs rather than just assuming that it will be like other VR headsets which have smaller sweet spots and thus need for mechanical adjustment in order to get both eyes within them.

    Sounds interesting, Fresnel lenses notwithstanding (since I've never been overly-distracted by issues with glare, even on tne original Quest, which certainly had its moments). In fact, the idea that Fresnel lenses should be "retired", when they make it much more possible for new users to afford to try VR, is just plain silly to me.
    Excited as I am about being able to enjoy the higher quality of PCVR relatively easily, instead of having to nearly be a rocket scientist, the issue with how hot this headset seems to get, and the software IPD adjustment definitely gives me pause. My IPD is considerably outside the norm, I can break a sweat in VR just by putting on most headsets, and my memories of the Rift S and its software IPD adjustment are not the best.
    Still, the DPVR sounds interesting, even worth considering, at that price. It's good to have what I hope will be a bit more competition at the mid-range VR level.

      @@Nyuumi, I have a Pico 4, and am quite fond of it.
      That said, all the complaints I hear about "glare" and Fresnel lenses can and does apply to pancake lenses as well, though in a different way. Then again, that type of glare usually doesn't bother me when I use my Pico 4, any more than the glare that can come from Fresnel lenses can.
      Make no mistake: I love being able to enjoy wireless PCVR with the Pico 4, and find the level of clarity in that headset very, very good--but it still doesn't match the view that comes from being able to connect to even a pretty good PC via Displayport. Whether the lenses are Fresnel or Pancake, the compression-free detail that you can experience by connecting your headset through DP can't be matched by connecting to VR games via USB, or through the awesome Virtual Desktop app.
      Usually, I can live with it that compression, but it sure is nice to occasionally experience the fully detailed graphics that the developers intended. Likewise, the thought of being able to do so without having to, as I said earlier, be the moral equivalent of a rocket scientist (to say nothing of sometimes needing to have the patience of Job), sounds quite appealing.
      Or it will, if DPVR can work out some of the issues it seems to have.

    At $600+ with taxes, youre better off investing in the quest pro. I currently own the quest2, pico4 and the quest pro. Let's just say the Chinese counterparts are not up to par in quality, hardware or software. The Pro is no means perfect but considering the hundreds of millions, if not billions Meta has invested in vr I have to say that the Pro is currently the best pro-sumer headset on the market right now. I had high hopes for the htc xr elite but according to most reviews it was quite disappointing too. I just think we're at a technological stagnant as far as vr is concerned. Now go and watch Surrogates with Bruce Wallace!

      Yeah investing 600 in this headset is just a terrible idea... fresnel lenses, no wifi, SERIOUS OVERHEATING WITH LOUD FANS?!?!? Why would anyone buy this over the Pico 4... just because it has a DisplayPort? I have to wonder wtf DIsco-VR is thinking when she makes videos like this, it seems like the kind of oblivious headset hype that you see on channels like MRTV.

    I guess so long as Pico 4 is not available in the US it will sell, but Pico 4 is better for PC VR imo (and supports wireless), provides way better visuals with higher resolution and pancake lenses even given the compression. When considering that this does not include stand-alone hardware it's pretty poor value
