Pika Pi means Ash? That's… slightly blowing my mind. That makes Pikachu crying and saying "Pika Pi" when Ash "dies" in Pokémon The First Movie even sadder.
Edgo pay close attention to the anime. Pikachu has a pattern in how he speaks to other characters. You'll notice that whenever the characters introduce themselves, pikachu will always say "pika pikachu" to introduce himself
Bunny Astral this may come to a shock to you but not all people play videogames, hell, the majority of the adult population alive today were born before mainstream videogaming was a thing so it's not outrageous that devito hasn't heard of pokemon
"His book the Rise and Fall of Pokemon" What Fall of Pokemon. Sun and Moon sold over 15 million copies. The franchise is still one of Gaming's largest.
It's the two sounds heard when nuisance rodents chew up your cables and make dangerous short circuits; the sounds of the short circuits' sparks and the squeaking of the culprits. Like many Electric-types, Pikachu likes to feed on man-made electricity, and it does so by chewing up power cables and drinking from the electric currents.
P S B-M Liberals want all boys like pink stuff that girls like. I'm a guy,but I still like clefairy and it's evolution line, even thought I don't like pink.
It could have went the way of My Little Pony. Edit: Also, I want to take the time to say that RUclips's "reply" system is fucking stupid. There's no way to tell which comment I was replying to, so my comment makes little sense out of context.
Asad Khan I know that it's his original name but im just saying he said that literally or whateve after all pika pi only translate to Satoshi image if he said the whole eng dub name ash Ketchum that would match pika pi 😋
Star The Mighty One! Stop, thats not how it works in anime. Ash is not the english translation for Satoshi, nor the other way around. Ash and Satoshi have nothing in common. If Pikachu really said what it did in the dubbed-movie, then it was an oversight that simply was not changed for the dub. Medias leave in oversights all the time.
Sensia v7.03 assuming a person that has never heard of pokemon would go and watch a children's animated move on said thing he never heard of seriously do some critical thinking when coming up with a rebuttal
Sean Sealey *passes over a plate of chips* If you could be so kind, I've run out of salt. If you saw that as a completely serious rebuttal, then I weep for the future of humanity.
6:07 Kinda explains why Pikachu's Final Smash doesn't really look like a Volt"tackle" in Smash Bros, but rather It's a loose reference to one of Pulseman's moves.
"How come Danny Devito never heard of Pokemon? That's like saying he never heard of Mario." I mean can you really blame him for not knowing Pokemon? After all he may never grew up with our generation. Also where's DYK Kirby part 2? Would really like to see a Kirby video from you guys.
I've seen people in their 60s that play pokemon go. Pokemon was such a phenomenon in the late 90s and early 2000s that it's really hard to believe that he has never heard of it.
According to an episode of The Gaming Historian, when Bob Hoskins played the role of Mario in the "Super Mario Bros." live-action movie, he didn't even know that Mario was a video game character at first until his son filled him in.
I've always felt sorry for Raichu. He's one of my favorite pokemon but will forever be overshadowed into obscurity due to the popularity of his pre-evolution.
00110100 uhh why I'd that a movie seriously so many people want a live action movie with Ash Brock and Misty in it, through other fan favorites in it as well like Serena (know where that would go) but no we have to have a movie about a game not even released yet
I live in Canada and for me at least (and all of my friends) we remove our shoes when we enter the house. The floors in my house are often very clean, and when I see American commercials for products to clean mud off of floors (often swiffer commercials) throughout the house I think it's funny that people even wear shoes indoors at all.
I work at a clothing store and on Halloween, we are allowed to wear a costume and I wore a Pikachu costume. An old man thought I was a bumblebee and a lady called me a "pokewoman". I felt like I was in the 90s again. D:
6:05 Plus if you're having trouble figuring out what the difference of male vs. female pikachu is (it took me a minute to figure it out since they look identical at first, lol) it's the shape of their tail. Female tail has a "V" shape on the end of it while male tail is straight.
There was one animé episode where Ash & Co. dressed in drag (except Iris, obviously) to infiltrate a female only (both trainers and their Pokémon) battling club, and Pikachu hilariously had a yellow paper heart taped to the end of his tail for his disguise.
When I was in my teens, I thought Pikachu was annoying. Now, as I'm approaching my thirties, Pikachu is so goddamn adorable. Seriously, the way they gave it real animal traits (using its feet to scratch, stroking its head to show affection) makes me want to cuddle it, electric shock and all.
When I was a kid, my favorite Pokemon was Raichu because it was like Pikachu but cooler. I had a novelization of the Indigo League series of the anime which covered several select episodes of the 4Kids dub from "I Choose You!" to "Pikachu's Goodbye", and when I first saw Raichu I thought it was the most badass thing ever.
Voltteccer! Love that japanese attack, animation wise and pronounciation. This was a nice backstory of Pikachu. The monument that was build of Pikachu has a very nice mystery around it. Being removed is a serious letdown as I had pre-planned to visit that statue the sec I was informed about it in this video. Could have used some XYZ scenes for Pikachu in this video though, would have made Pika look better.
I love Japan but they really, really, really do not understand onomatopoeia. The idea is for the sound of the word to actually mimic the noun or verb it describes. Sparks do not "pika-pika", mice do not "chu-chu", swishing meat in broth does not sound like "shabu-shabu", rain does not "zaa-zaa", dogs do not "wan-wan", applause does not sound like "pachi-pachi". Don't get me wrong: I find it fascinating but it's so off the mark that it's hilarious.
Please consider that in terms of media aimed primarily at children and covering an international spectrum at the time yellow characters were uncommon. A lot of the Simpsons jokes are culturally American and it's humor targets a generally older audience, though it's clean enough to be shown at prime time. Thus the Japanese producers might not have even considered The Simpsons 20 years ago.
Omg, I finished watching Tekkaman Blade like a month ago cuz I got Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. That anime is very crisp. A few cliches here and there but the whole experience just sticks to you. Instant classic! I felt that if I where to watch it as a kid, I would just be screaming "Voltekka" and doing the poses like any kid would when watching Power Rangers. I would recommend anyone to watch it.
I still have a working version of Hey You Pikachu! My brothers and I have found that Pikachu hates the word "Fuck". Or, at least, he acts angry anytime someone says it. LoL :)
I can't believe Americans walk around their homes without taking off their shoes first... I mean, in Poland, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, wherever I've been, no one walks around in their boots inside. Just a small comment relating to the whole "shoes outside" thing in 'Hey you, Pikachu!' game.
How do you write a book about the rise and fall of Pokemon when the games still sell monstrously well along with all their massive amounts of merchandising? The book was released around 2004 too, so that means it came after Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, the third best selling Pokemon game ever and even the spinoffs and console games were doing well. You can chart the rise easily, but where's the fall part? Is there an angle the book approaches this from where it makes sense? Parody?
Also another trivia: Although having Pikachu speak in human language in the anime was discarded, there is one manga that allowed Pikachu to talk. And that is the manga called "Pokemon Getto Daze!", a 5-issued manga created by Miho Asada, which lasted to the Gen 2 series. Although Pikachu wasn't talking physically, the main protagonist Shu was using a special headset to speak with Pikachu. But unlike Ash, they don't get along...
I'd argue about the first thing: the original design for Pikachu had it look exactly like a Pika. If you look at any of the old official artwork (TCG, sprites) Pikachu are shaped just like Pikas, and by the time the anime rolled out, it changed.
It is strange that in USA people do not remove shoes indoors. In many European countries people usually use indoor shoes/slippers or are without any shoes indoors. The US people must have really dirty floors and carpets...
I don't know of many people who where shoes all the time indoors. We usually wear them if we know we're going to be heading outside soon or if it's a formal party/gathering.
Most everyone I know do remove their shoes when coming into their home. However, anywhere else the shoes stay on as a sort of norm. I'm not sure if it's cultural or a social norm though. You're not wrong though, the floors here are typically not something you'd want to get too acquainted with.
I find it funny in the comments that there are people on the internet who actually don't realize Pikachu's popularity outside of video games....huh. For those people, I think Micky Mouse is a good example and comparison. By the way, if Pikachu isn't well known enough, what about Mario? Arguably less known, while he even appeared in the Olympics?
Just one 'pika' can also be used to describe a flash of light. The atomic bombings in Japan were often described as 'Pikadon'. 'Pika' being bright flash, and 'don' being the loud boom afterwords.
Would be cool if you guys did the DYKG Episodes of Half-Life, Bioshock, Chrono Trigger and Bravery Default that were promised so much time ago. I believe it's been already two years for the first two, and that's quite lame.
When it's theme song has been sung by annoying ass Go players that have never seen the show and will never so shut up Go fans do not talk about Pokemon like that you little children. I am going back to play the manly Pokemon with fairies
Clefairy is the face of the original Poké Doll item, has an entire area dedicated to their lore, and it's also a Normal type with balanced stats, a wide variety of moves and a signature move that allows you to use even more moves randomly. If you played the game without looking at the marketing, you'd never suspect Pikachu was the main focus.
I'm so glad Ikue Otani actually got the job of voicing Pikachu. She's the whole reason why Pikachu is as awesome as he is.
Personally I'm a much bigger fan of her role as Chopper and Corpse Party's Sachiko
So that's why Sachiko sounded familiar...
Pika Pi means Ash? That's… slightly blowing my mind. That makes Pikachu crying and saying "Pika Pi" when Ash "dies" in Pokémon The First Movie even sadder.
Edgo I'm getting the feels all of a sudden :/ .
Edgo oh god, that scene just went from 0-100 in a fraction of a second
Edgo pay close attention to the anime. Pikachu has a pattern in how he speaks to other characters.
You'll notice that whenever the characters introduce themselves, pikachu will always say "pika pikachu" to introduce himself
... *holds* *back* *tears*
and there's "Pikachu Pi" when refering to Misty, and "Pi Pi Pi" for Togepi. its a cool thing that is suprisingly consistent.
"I've never heard of Pokémon"
So did you just not exist in the late '90s or
TheKiss or never got into videogaming thus never looked at any videogame at all
It was on the cover of TIME magazine for God's sake
TheKiss not everyone reads times magazine, hell, i haven't seen one in a decade
I still have that magazine. Its funny looking at it how they thought Pokemon might be dangerous to children's minds. Those dumb-asses.
Some people are not privy to video games.
Danny Devito is my favorite Pokemon. He's a Fairy Type.
Massive dong type
Trashman type
Poison-fairy type
His trainer name is trash man
Who the fuck doesn't know what Pokemon is?
How the fuck has Danny Devito never heard of Pokemon? Or anybody, for that matter?
Ben - Definitive Dubs Because they have lives and work Hard.
Imad Mohamed Pokémon is a cultural phenomenon. It takes a certain level of talent to not at least heard of Pokémon.
MasterofHamsters Many People in Kasakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bahrain and some countries in Africa has never heard of Pokemon either.
Imad Mohamed We're not talking about those countries are we?
Imad Mohamed those people aren't a known celebrity who live in a first world country
How the *FUCK* have you never herd of Pokémon???? That's like saying
" *I never Breathed Air before* "
Bunny Astral wtf is air?
Yeah, that was one of the dumbest things I've heard. It's also like saying "I've never heard of Star Wars before".
Vicious Zero thats like asking " what is dmt?"

Oh wait, there are people like that in the world
They are guys in comment sections!!!!
Man, Europe was noooooottttttttt missing out by not having Hey You Pikachu

"His book the Rise and Fall of Pokemon"
What Fall of Pokemon.
Sun and Moon sold over 15 million copies. The franchise is still one of Gaming's largest.
Kyle Warne that’s what I was wondering too. Guy must be a Genwunner or something.
The author was certain the Pokemon franchise was dead and that they ran out of enough ideas after Ruby/Sapphire. It is hilarious in retrospect.
Pokémon ain't shit no more to where it once was. Read the book. Fact up son
@@eriks8382 found the genwunner
People will whine "genwunner", but then these same people will also admit everything after Black/White 2 has been highly mediocre
So Pikachu in English is Zapsqueak?
More like sparkle-squeak, but yeah you've got the gist of it.
I prefer Cracklesqueak
Zzzzzzsqueak
It's the two sounds heard when nuisance rodents chew up your cables and make dangerous short circuits; the sounds of the short circuits' sparks and the squeaking of the culprits.
Like many Electric-types, Pikachu likes to feed on man-made electricity, and it does so by chewing up power cables and drinking from the electric currents.
Zqueak
Fat pikachu is best pikachu
You can still see a little chub on him even now, and that's alright with me.
"...To avoid controversy in the west", if I had a buck for every time I've heard that...
Its even more meant for the americans then europe.... Kind of sad. :/
You wouldn't have a big enough paddock

funniest part is it never works
Too many bucks will cause controversy.
Pikachu is my favorite digimon from Dragon Ball Z.

Can you imagine if Clefairy ended up being the mascot?

holy shit so the ending to the first pokemon movie where ash was frozen pikachu was crying pikka pi, he was saying ash
Asad Khan no he was saying Satoshi
donicx1 satoshi is the Japanese name for ash
Asad Khan I know that it's his original name but im just saying he said that literally or whateve after all pika pi only translate to Satoshi image if he said the whole eng dub name ash Ketchum that would match pika pi 😋
donicx1 ok

So...
If Pikachu's rival was Raichu... that means that Clefairy's would had been Gengar?
Stre Led Holy fuck. Gengar is Clefairy's shadow confirmed.
Stre Led No Then Clefable Would Be Clefairys Rival
MysticGengar 12 Actually, look at Clefairy and Gengar's body shapes. They're pretty similar...
no gengar would be clefables rival
I would assume Clefable since it's the evolution like Raichu is the evolution of Pikachu.
I want to know what planet Joseph Tobin lives on where there was a "fall" of Pokemon... it's an entertainment juggernaut
"What the fuck is Pokemon?"

Honestly, I find it difficult to believe how Clefairy could have impact the community in a similar matter.
Is it really necessary to state that this is about Pokemon's Pikachu? I mean, how many other Pikachu's do you know?
There's a Pikachu Rosenbaum in Newark
Gabe Puratekuta
Even so, how many people even know about that?
Digimon Pikachu

Danny Devito, where the hell have you been for the last 20 years?!!

whatever happened with Detective Pikachu? I just realized I haven't heard a thing about it since the announcement trailer
It released in Japan last year and never got an international release.

Danny Devito hasn't heard of Pokemon? Has he been.... not on this planet for 20 years?!

I sadly knew all these facts.
Then again i'm a goddamn pikachu.
Did he just fuckin' say Daney Devito?
Luke - Ario yes
Best part is how he cracks up slightly when saying it at 3:15.
But seriously internet, _why_.
Ritokure probably because of him in Hercules
Could you imagine a pokemon game where Danny DeVito voices Pikachu? I can, and I laugh whenever I do.

"Pokemon's Pikachu" oh yes because you REALLY needed to separate all of the other Pikachus.
There's always Mario, of Super Mario lore.
Voltteccer! Love that japanese attack, animation wise and pronounciation.
This was a nice backstory of Pikachu. The monument that was build of Pikachu has a very nice mystery around it. Being removed is a serious letdown as I had pre-planned to visit that statue the sec I was informed about it in this video.

I love how you can hear Furst laughing at 3:15
Remember when Pikachu was chubby? Yeah me too. Times have changed.
I wasn't even around for gen 1 and 2 but I still wish piakchu was chubby again.

Thanks for giving us this video full of facts you already mentioned in previous videos.

Idk how it works in the States, but in Canada, it's customary to take one's shoes off in the house. If anything, it's just common sense.
It's not customary to take your shoes off on the inside doormat but a lot of people do it over in the good ol' United States
Yeah but I think people in Japan take them off outside
What the F is Pokémon? - Danny DeVito
3:15 WHAT?! how has no ever heard of pokemon o_O
Yeah that's like saying " I've never gone to sleep before. "
Yeah you have to at least see something Pokemon

The Pikachu statue was apparently designed on a verbal or written description, because it looks completely inaccurate.
Tony the Bulbasaur Or the person wasn't that good of a sculptor. It's the ears, mostly.
I have a feeling they're trying to hide part 2 of Kirby.

And 'pow' doesn't sound like a punch, and 'bark' doesn't sound like a dog barking. Every language does this, it's not just Japan.
1:45 Do you even Simpsons bro?
Yeah, that made me laugh. Especially considering the previous video on here was about the Simpsons.
I was thinking Spongebob
(but Spongebob first aired 3 years later than Pokémon)
Please consider that in terms of media aimed primarily at children and covering an international spectrum at the time yellow characters were uncommon. Clefairy became the mascot for the Fairy type so that's a good compromise against flagship mascot status.
Iftekhar Ahmed i feel like that's Sylveon. She was hyped up before the typing was even announced and got a Pikachu short
The Godsent Hero You could argue that, however, Clefairy and Clefable were introduced in generarion 1 as the "Fairy type".
We don't, we take our shoes off indoors in a mud room or on a mat. That was his point because the shoes where outside.
Wine the pooh was the only famous yellow character at that time???!!!! Spongebob and the simpsons were around back then, well the simpsons at least
1:45 I know this has little relation to the video but when Pooh appeared, I kinda imagined him saying "What am I doing here in this video?".

Would be cool if you guys did the DYKG Episodes of Half-Life, Bioshock, Chrono Trigger and Bravery Default that were promised so much time ago. I believe it's been already two years for the first two, and that's quite lame.
I honestly wanna see an alternate version of our universe where Clefairy was the mascot. Imagine an alolan Clefable
Pikachu is way better than Mimikyu I'm not even trying to trigger people
Armando Murillo meh. I like them equally.
Armando Murillo I find Mimikyu cuter.
Polaris/2401blue mimiku is ugly under the disguise

Did You Know Gaming? - Oddworld (feat. Caddicarus)

Luis Carena I hate YOU
I love pika
Clefairy is the face of the original Poké Doll item, has an entire area dedicated to their lore, and it's also a Normal type with balanced stats, a wide variety of moves and a signature move that allows you to use even more moves randomly. If you played the game without looking at the marketing, you'd never suspect Pikachu was the main focus.
ah POKEMON'S Pikachu. Thank you for making the distinction.
A DYK Gaming for my favorite Nintendo character? YEEEEEEESSSS!!!
I LOVE PIKACHU!!! He's awesome, although I knew a few of these facts, I still enjoyed the video a lot. :)
