So Nintendo did not make the Wii HD compatible because most people did not have HD TVs and they thought that people should not have to buy a new TV just to play a new console? That doesn't make much sense since the Xbox 360 was released a year earlier and it was both HD and SD compatible, even though without HDMI at first. Also, the Wii U could be played on SD TVs both with composite and RGB Scart. Making a console HD compatible doesn't mean that it has to be HD exclusive.

I think Wii with component out on a 480p display looks great. It looks "older" than PS3 and X360, but I'd say those consoles jumped to HD a tad too soon, 15-25fps are way too common on those.
@@BenjiLee53 I'd say they almost mastered that console by the end. Phantom Pain and Rise of the Tomb Raider in particular looked rather amazing for the 360. But that took almost a console generation to happen. More to my point of perhaps going HD a little too soon.
I still had a Crt Tv when I first brought the Wii in June of 2007, however in the following September I brought an LCD Tv. Now though it is easy to overlook it's lack of HD as it just being an older system, rather than being outdated like it felt in the late 00s and early 10s.
Yeah, I mostly used my Wii just to play Gamecube games anyway, wich didn't have HD either. So even back in 2010 I already considered it a retro console anyway. And as such, I needed to have it with an appropiate color scheme, not this fake-futuristic black/white nonsense. *25th Mario Anniversary happens* EEEEEEEECK!!!
You kinda forget that Nintendo was the first to have a speaker in their controller. Now that the PS4's got it too, you forget how ahead of time they were with that. Honestly. Haven't touched a Wii game that utilized it heavily in so long that I kinda forgot. Lol
Hearing that you can re-enable DVD playback through homebrew just blew my effing mind... too bad the whole reason I home-brewed my wii was because the disc-drive broke :^)
The doctor that wrote a paper about "Wii-Itus" seems like something else has to be wrong with him if swinging a fucking remote is putting him in to a state of nonstop pain.
The first is not entirely true. Yes, they intended to put DVD playback and planned to release a updated model with it added, problem is that not all Wii can play DVDs through homebrew. After a year or so after production they changed the drive assembly to a new model that refuse to run anything that is not a Gamecube or Wii disc, even with homebrew apps, confirming that they gave up in their efforts to add DVD playback entirely.

"the original Devil may cry" THAT IS DMC3 DANTE FIGHTING A DMC1 ENEMY! WHAT IS THIS AND WHERE DO I FIND MORE OF IT!?
When I heard "Seamen" I had to pause to laugh a ton
Wii isn't considered exercise......................... UM Wii Sports & Wii Fit!!
“Wii-itis” How big of a dork do you have to be...?! 🤣
I mean, he did injure himself playing wii sports lol
I guess that makes me a dork then, as I got tendinitis (tennis elbow) playing many, many hours of wii tennis to help me
stay in shape.
Repinerator NotABot! Lol
And I got sore only once from playing Wii Boxing. Because I only played it once.
Gabe Puratekuta LOL!
7:36 "A prime example..."
*I see what you did there...*
*Insert Rim shot here*
Imagine having to “take a break” from wii in order to make a full physical recovery
It's weird that the Wii looks so modern that it wouldn't even look odd in a setup today.
And the black version even more so, it just goes to show what good design, and function can do.
Mine is custom white and black with an LED window haha
@@djd-cepticon My main Wii was originally white, but has a black Vinyl skin to match my setup better, and at almost 40 years old I could care less about LED/RGB "gamer" that's so bright it nearly blinds you, and could light up an airport runway bling.
I think Wii with component out on a 480p display looks great.
It looks "older" than PS3 and X360, but I'd say those consoles jumped to HD a tad too soon, 15-25fps are way too common on those.
I was gonna argue until you brought up the framerate.
@@julianx2rl you can really tell the difference between early and late games on the X360 in terms of frame rate.
Yes but back then it was just cool to own one and have ‘HD’ although most people still used the damn AV 3 colour cables
@@Alexander_l322 Yeah I remember that aspect to it, and yeah, some of those people would still use AV out. Kinda funny.
@@BenjiLee53 I'd say they almost mastered that console by the end. Phantom Pain and Rise of the Tomb Raider in particular looked rather amazing for the 360.
But that took almost a console generation to happen. More to my point of perhaps going HD a little too soon.
Did you know that-
IS THAT RETURN TO DREAMLAND MUSIC?
1:42 There is a mod that can get the Wii to run in HD 720p, but it's not easy to do and needs a specific Wii.
Did you know the Wii had a child called the Wii U
And unfortunately the father was the Virtual Boy
The Wii U also has a cousin. His name is the Switch.
Well. This video made me miss Wii Party. Especially when the main menu song started playing at the end of the video.
The Wii had many games including Sonic And The Secret Ring, Mario Kart Wii, London Taxi and more! I know this from the Wikapedia
*25th Mario Anniversary happens*
EEEEEEEECK!!!
Honestly if Skyward Sword was in HD I would've kept playing it...
i have an OG wii that has dvd capabilities before they changed the dvd drive to only read gc and wii games
I'd always figured the Wii didnt play DVDs just as much because they didnt want people killing the motors in the disc drive early.
Who remembers Wiiware? Man, Bit Trip Core and Runner was amazing!
If the Wii played movie DVD, it would be on the same level as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the time
@Thistle Flower True
Still technologically behind, PS3 could play BlueRay. The Xbox 360 could play HDDVD with an add on but that format failed so that didn't matter.
I wish I could go back in time to Christmas morning 2006 when my sister and I unboxed our brand new Nintendo Wii. What a magical time.
Press 'F' to pay respects to the Wii Shop Channel.
(I know, I'm late, but still)

Literally I was playing Pikmin 2 in my Wii some hours ago , only to find my RUclips recommendations fulled of videos about Wii LOL
You kinda forget that Nintendo was the first to have a speaker in their controller. Now that the PS4's got it too, you forget how ahead of time they were with that. Honestly.
Haven't touched a Wii game that utilized it heavily in so long that I kinda forgot. Lol
Wii was one of my first consoles along with Dreamcast and PS3
Hearing that you can re-enable DVD playback through homebrew just blew my effing mind... too bad the whole reason I home-brewed my wii was because the disc-drive broke :^)
I did not think I’d hear about One Piece Unlimited Adventure today, but I’m happy I did
I dunno why they cared about hd output. The first Gen xbox 360 didnt have HDMI out either
Geez that e3 footage of the vitality sensor looks like a bit from a tv show
My only regret is... I have... Wii-itis...
I’m glad the Wii was standard definition. I didn’t have an HD TV until 2017.
it’s funny because in a standard wii, when you modify it’s software (not even hardware) you CAN play dvds
*FOR THE LAST TIME, ITS SEA MAN!*

Censorship will never cease to offend me, far more than any uncensored media.
6:20 He also made the far superior SimTower clone, YootTower.
The n7nchuck is more like a N64 controller... Not a Gamecube
6:06 I think you mean the Viz translation of the manga. See also: JJBA All-Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven.
If all wireless devices paired as easily as the Wii remote with the Wii did, the world would be a utopia
I'm sure they sold both version of No More Heroes over in the UK. I remember playing the full gore edit way before the PS3 release.
No More Heroes 3..... I really cant wait.....
