Still possibly the best Start Up sound that any console has ever had. Only Nintendo's GameCube and Game Boy Advance could compare. (Also slight shout out to the great Dreamcast boot up screen).
I think Sega Dreamcast is the best. It give a sudden chill of nostalgia in your spine.
@@cliffturbo2146 You avatar points to an obvious bias...but man those have to be the top 2. What else even comes close?
@@Gertsomaybe Nintendo Gamecube, like he/she said.
I would always try to skip them as a kid even though you couldn't but these days I love it
I also would like to nominate the Neo-Geo start up sound.
Sony sure showed them all.
The first and second Playstation were legendary.
And that's why they're the only PlayStations I own.
The Playstation has had some of the most amazing moments in console wars history, there's the legendary "299" moment but also the amazing "How to lend a game to friend" video which managed to kill the Xbox in a single ad
Ps3 is also up there, the amount of games on that thing by the end of it's lifespan is incredible, still have my ps3 with nearly 100 games stuck on it.
@@pentexsucks43
Ps3 is probably my least favorite. It also took a little bit to get going. I think the ps4, and ps5 are better. Also as a jrpg fan the ps3 is extremely disappointing compared to previous gens
@@shinoff-tw4eq PS3 had ni no kuni, persona, tales, Valkyria Chronicles, loads of ps1 jrpgs on the storefront. Imo, it was great for RPGs
I love how you guys flooded us with Tekken 3 music
Thought it sounded familiar, but I've never played any Tekkens...
Lugbzurg I strongly recommend it.
referral madness Damn right it is
OwO
DAMN RIGHT!
ps1: praised for its superior cd player
ps4: can't play audio cds
wew
non of the new consoles had that it can't even play MP3!
Ps4 does mp3
Meh. When the Playstation first came out, audio CDs were still too new to have replaced my cassette tape collection. By the time the PS4 came out, audio CDs were irrelevant. I really only ever bought a couple of CDs anyway. Pretty much went straight from cassette tapes to internet downloads.
Spotify
Who still plays audio cds? That's some "too old to be old" crap, right there!
“Sony was furious about the controller design”
Fast forward 25 years later where they refuse to change the design😂
Sony: "Hey if it ain't broke don't fix it."
MegaAnimazing eh that’s not how I’d put it. But they’re FINALLY altering the design for the PS5 and I think it’s much better.
alaskancurry well tada they changed it
They did now and it's awful
SovietMcDonalds looks better if you ask me
That's hilarious that Hiroshi Yamauchi foresaw the danger of letting Sony into their company to see how video game consoles are made. It was possibly the worst decision however to back out and humiliate Sony, as my generation grew up on the Sony PlayStation when they went ahead with it.
"One often meets one's destiny on the road to avoid it." ~Master Oogway, Kung Fu Panda
It often takes a push, given that Nintendo's humiliating blow was the loss of strong third party support, noticable in the Wii and DS' library being taken up by mostly shovelware, drowning hidden gems in the process as Sony continued to have classics for years on end, even when Microsoft entered the competition which surprisingly, is in a stalemate due to the changing gaming climate promoting cross play between systems.
@@Gaia_BentosZX5 Right now it seems Nintendo and MS are kinda making Sony look like a fool considering how Xbox One and even Switch allow for cross platform play while Sony refuses to allow it simply cause they think Playstation is the better console to play. Nintendo has been regaining third party support as of late if games like DOOM Eternal are any indication.
Did you just quote Kung fu panda?
TheWolfgabe that is true. They are taking steps undercut sony. Microsoft is on par with Sony on hardware potential, however at e3 they took huge jabs software wise at sony by buying multiple ips with strong sony fanbase and announce many of the same big name titles like KH3. If sony wants those games for a ps4/5port they are going to have to answer to microsoft. While Nintendo is captializing on the handheld market as the only home/portable console plus they no longer have any first party competition from the psp after the fall of the the vita. Although the mobile game industry huge I doubt I am getting anything that can run a smash ultimate size game anytime soon. Hopefully sony surprises me with something other than just a more powerful ps4 and avoid a large jump into mandatory VR set up as well as learn to play friendly with nintendo and microsoft or they are going to take a huge blow by pc who are gaining ground in the software department gaining many of the same release as ps4. The consoles with need to be on better terms over the next gen.
I guess he somehow used the power of the Monado.
The PS1 was my first video game console that I played in my childhood and I grew up with playing Crash and Spyro :)
@Nikki Roesslar same here.
so basically u are still a kid... famicon was the console I played for the first time when I was 6yo hahaha
same, crash, spyro, medievil, twisted metal, metal gear, legend of the dragoon, final fantasy tactics and tomba all i hold near and dear to my heart 'u'
GutsRage so you old
Nintendo was my first console then my dad bought a ps1 instead of a n64 and here I am now with a ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4 vita
Kind of hilarious that Sony execs were all "We don't belong in the games business!" when the Playstation is the main thing keeping Sony a thing right now.
In the public eye, at least. I'm sure they have departments that aren't well publisized that make a bunch of money.
@@siefer117 Right. Sony's financial arm is probably doing the best right now, but who cares about financial services...
@Brennen Emmons Not as much as before. Their smartphones are doomed, their tablet, their laptops(yes, VAIO), even their TVs. Only thing they have left are Walkman in Japan and videogames.
@@ExitusGSZ Actually I just checked their 2017 financial statement and it looks like financial services are only a fraction of their total income. From what I can see retails sales are infact what keep Sony the size that it is.

This is gonna be good.
And it ends with Nina Williams. haha.

I have so many fond memories of the original PlayStation growing up. While the original Game Boy helped to introduce me to video games, the PlayStation is what solidified me as the gamer that I am today. It’s why I’ve been so loyal to Sony in the gaming department, even if they have been making some questionable decisions lately. Their software line up cannot be beat!
When the PS1 can play music CD's with no problem but the PS4 can't. I still love you Sony

fix the typo
Gotcha. It’s fixed now ;)
I have a gut feeling the ps5 will be the king of consoles
Sorry about that typo. My auto correct put in “tell” instead of “sell” 🙄
I've always been fascinated by the Saturn since I really wanted one when they first came out but FF7 and MGS1 made me get the ps1 which worked out since I didn't know anyone who owned a Saturn growing up. It's amazing how much the ps1 supported 3rd party games.
Wow, I never knew the grips were for lower shoulder buttons. I always thought it just to feel more comfortable.
The fact that you used Eddy Gordo theme from Tekken 3 just makes this whole video a lot better
I love that story about Nintendo and Sony that led to the PlayStation 1 also I got an advert for Spyro Reignited Trilogy
I got an ad for XBox game pass

Stuff of legends. They got snubbed by the big players and in retaliation they blew the comparison away and basically doing everything better.
why would I want the play station classic when I can just download the emulator it runs on?
you can put a Raspberry Pi and play games of PS1,SNES,SEGA,NES
I mean for 30 bucks I got a decent little emulator box that was stupidly easy to mod so...
For the flex.
8:17 Just a clarification on that. ALL models of PlayStation support S-video worldwide. You can buy cables for it. The earliest Japanese models had physical S-video and RCA ports on the back. These were phased out in later releases, but the option to use S-video and even RGB remained, you just need to by a cable for it. Sony also sold an AV breakout adapter with S-video and RCA plugs built in.
the story of ps1 never gets old
so many good memories of this console always happy to know more about it
Nintendo and Sony almost make a console together? First time I’ve heard of it. That’s sooooo crazy. I can’t believe I didn’t know that, and that it’s never been mentioned in the gaming industy!
Not a Console more like a CD add on for the super Nintendo so think more like the sega CD or TurboGrafx CD but more powerful
There's not much in the world of gaming that still gives me chills. But the PS1's startup sound does just that.
I would love if you guys can do a DYKGaming on the Neo-Geo or other arcade systems.
The sound though, so many memories :getsteary:
Somebody actually showed footage of Chocobo Racing? nice
I loved that game, it wasn't Mario Kart but it was fun, and Squall was in it.
There go Furst with his fantastic taste in music again. It's always a pleasure to hear Nina William's theme from T3.
Loved the Tekken 3 music, the nostalgia man.
I find it hilarious that they added the 4 symbols to make it easier to remember them. I've never owned a playstation, but I've occasionally played on one and borrowed one for a while. I always have to go "wait, which button is square?" far more than I've ever had to with other consoles.
My two favorite things, PlayStation and Marilyn Manson! Didn't know that fact, and I'm a big Manson fan. Great video guys!
1:49 That console on the bottom right is the PSone. A "remake" console that had a screen you could plug into it. So it was technically portable

The PS1 intro showcases from the get-go what you’re about to experience. Amazing sound quality, you were about to really hear your games and become more immersed in the worlds than ever before.
The PS2 intro showcased depth, from the increased amount of polygons shown on the screen creating deeper worlds than ever before (which is why there were all those neat little skyscraper things)
This has always been my theory.
Nintendo cheated on sony with philips? Oof....
That's the equivalent of getting herpes from cheating on your spouse.
CDI sucks!
This sounds kinda sexy...
as a reaction to Sony trying to scam Nintendo out of all CD licensing fees. businesses are all trying to work their own angles.
if sony wouldn't have demanded majority liscences on CDs and let nintendo be at the helm we would have now the nintendo palystation 4 switch
ah, the original Playstation. Changed my life forever when I got a preowned one as a present along with a small handful of games that just so happened to include Final Fantasy VII. Thus, my JRPG obsession was born. Closest I ever got before that was Faxanadu on the NES which I suppose was an action RPG of sorts. To this day, Final Fantasy VII holds a very special place in my heart. As do the other two Playstation FF titles.
Marilyn Manson and PlayStation, two things I enjoy in Life.
The start up gives me shivers, I remember the creatures games. I had to share one with my sister, who knew codes I also played Rayman on ps1

this was really well researched, nice work guys
I kind of hate people like to over dramatic use the Nintendo/Sony struggle. Nintendo, in reality, was not so stupid and Sony was not so serendipitous as to fall into video games out of revenge. Companies aren’t people and personifying them makes up dramatic stories that are short on truth.
Get bent
Wish I could go back in time and relive those psx days. It was a unique era.
Did you know? Sony doesn't consider Crash or Spyro to be Playstation 1 classics.
They must have shit taste
EMCT82 Bëast not really Universal Interactive Studios owned both characters Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog just designed the games whilst Universal owned the rights to both characters till Spyro and Crash were abandoned by Insomniac and Naughty Dog so Spyro and Crash were third party for a while till Activision bought them both and has since brought both back properly with N Sane Trilogy and Reignited Trilogy
If that's true, they're ingrates. I wonder if the PlayStation would have still sold 100,000,000 systems without them?
End of Sea yeah they still had Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 which were all hit sellers for the console
Activision owns both Spyro and Crash so that’s why neither of them appear on the PS1 Classic which is a shame as I don’t think it would have really hindered the sales for the remasters I think it would have doubled them
Excellent choices of background music for this episode.
So the Colors mean Brilliance, Joy, Passion and Excellence.. it's pretty telling that the PS4 got rid off all that, I mean the PS4's PS Logo is just plain white... uhhh yay
I actually prefer the silver/white logo to the color one. It's a lot more sophisticated and snazzy and matches up better with the PS3/PS4/Vita.
@@MillionTheVermillion okay but the Switch also starts with a plain white NiNTENDO on black, it's just black&white.. which get old quicker than colors in general imo
That's mostly because of trends. Nowadays simple is better and to some extent it makes sense since it can be a lot more appealing but some people go too extreme and ruin everything.
I still find stupid that years ago squares were the nice and easier way to go and was a followed rule, something that I mostly agree, but now it changed back to round shapes >_> Trends are so damn silly nowadays.
@@D.Rodri. yeah okay but there is one thing, these colours had a meaning behind it, so when you get rid off those Colours, you get rid off these traits what these colours represent and that only for trends? I don't like that

Yes, I bought GT for the PS1 when it first came out, I was a huge (Import bootleg VHS at the time) DBZ fan. I ended up selling that game on EBay for around $250 when DBZ finally because mainstream in the US, I have no regrets. I only felt bad for the guy who paid that much for it.
the game was called Final Bout and the GT part was dropped for some releases
Remember it was released before DBZ became popular so the game was eventually selling for $200 when popularity was at its peak, then they re-released it when the popularity was dying down at the bargain price of $20 . "The cartridge format is dying."
20+ years later, Nintendo now uses Switch Game Cards (a technology descended from the Game Boy Game Pak, borrowing flash technology from micro SD cards) to physically store games. All the industry had to do was wait out the CD craze, ironically enough, for cartridge technology to catch up in storage sizes and cost to manufacture.
Cards (the switch game cards) are still more expensive than Blu-rays and can't store as much.
It would run CDs if they were not huge, something not optimal for a handheld
Frellyouall inevitable they will. Maybe not specifically switch cartridges but sooner or later the carts will be superior in storage and speed
Yeah, they just had to wait out four whole generations of CD-based consoles beforehand. Seems legit, A+ business strategy.

PlayStation 1.1: You are (not) ready
i remember some people saying how nintendo backstabed sony as if sony was entirely innocent. sure, maybe they weren't malicious, but idk, having unfair rights kinda stresses people out...
edit: didn't realize my comment came off as one-sided. when i first heard about this, one source said that both nintendo and sony crossed the line.
To be fair if Nintendo felt uneasy they could've renegotiated instead of being massive betraying cunts, and it got them to Philips CD-I so it was a well deserved punishment.
Nintendo agreed to the terms - And then chose to break those terms.
That's how backstabbing works.
They would have known this agreeing to the deal in the first place - It wasn't exactly surprise information.
@@tront5903 if they wanted to stop Sony they could've just said no to the deal. The fact that they spat in the face of Sony is the only reason why they came out short in the end and Sony came out on top (At least in regards to being a new player in the video game manufacturing business). Nowadays it's all new business owners and the market is vastly different so it's not as cutthroat as it once was but I wouldn't call Sony and Nintendo best of friends to this day either.
Well, you ain't wrong. Sony wasn't exactly right on their end of the bargain either. Nintendo just had a more public action that makes them look like the bad guys. In wars, even the "good guys" did some nasty shit. I bet you if that deal had gotten through, Sony would have found a way to screw Nintendo over.
