Its a pattern I've seen in western vs japanese views of media. In many polls, Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion is the most popular Eva character in Japan while in the west it is usually Asuka Langley Soryu

This was the last mario kart game I ever got into. After DS nothing else the game added or did wowed me.
Would love to see a deep dive into sonic all stars racing transformed. That game imo is the one of the best new kart racers to come out. So much variety .
I used to play the DS Lite when I was 2 and then kept playing my brothers DSi XL when I was around 4 years old. I have 3 Nintendo DS's. A DS Lite, One Black DSi and a Pokémon Black DSi I got yesterday for a good price. MKDS is so nostalgic.

I think the Egg 1 is more of a pun in japanese, since egg is Tamago, tama can be translated as bullet, so it could be "bullet go number 1." Maybe not though, just a thought.

That isn't Block City, it's Pipe Plaza.
If the game is played on the original DS, Mario says, "Yahoo!" on the Nintendo logo screen but if it is played on the DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, or Wii U, he says, "Here we go!"
How and why?
He does say "Here we go!" upon first starting the game on the OG DS, but every other time when playing on the OG DS, he says "Yahoo!".

It's funny how the blooper was the most hated item in DS yet in that same game you could just keep driving using the minimap completely negating it's effect.
You couldn't see bananas or fake boxes on the minimap, though, so it was still annoying to a degree.
@@russellbrown6888 I dont know about the other consoles but you could see them on the DS lite. I would not even look at the top screen the entire race as I didnt need to. The bottom screen just gave so much more info
@@igarshi457 yep in all official versions of Nintendo DS mario kart I’ve heard of the bottom map in “close up” mode (tap the screen) shows everything in the game with only exception being 👻 ghosted characters and being inked. I don’t even use the top screen when in “competitive” 1v1’s
That's how I played it with a DS that had an effed up top screen.

I miss playing this game with my friends at school.
When I was in high school, we would like three days for exams at the end of each semester. Students not currently in an exam sat in a study hall in the cafeteria. A whole group of us would all get together and play because we only needed one person to own the game. It was great.

Same, me and my friends played the crap outta the game on the bus, before the school doors opened, and at lunch. We even became called the (unofficial) gaming club by other kids in the school.
The more I learn about Iwata, the more I wish he had been my boss, lol.
I was his personal rent boy and I can confirm he was great to work under.

Yep, online mode, retro cups, choosing your own kart and mission mode, this game was crazy as the first 3D portable Mario Kart.
I couldn’t believe how much content was on that tiny game cartridge.
The playing with others with only one cartridge was very good for me and my college friends.
It had the chillest atmosphere too and I love the chunky low-res graphics, my favorite Mario Kart game tbh

I literally bought the game during a band trip so I could join everyone playing it on the bus.
Same. I noticed the 6th graders on our bus were playing it one day, so I decided to bring my DS and whoop up on them. It was always a heated competition between 6th graders and high schoolers (9-12) first thing in the morning, and I almost always came out on top. I got super good at drift boosting and Waluigi Pinball was the place for that. That was the only year I actually was excited for the school bus to come lol

In all of my years and times of playing this masterpiece of an awesome game: I still have my original copy of the game and cartridge box for the 2007 DS Lite. I thank you guys for bringing back so many nostalgic memories of the game (But god damn those Blue Shell's that would hit you at the last minute right before crossing the finish line in the last lap!!). Man, I need to search up of there are any newly made DS Lite's up for sale. Anyways, gotta go!!
Some how and some way I still have Mario Kart DS with the box and everything in it. I’m not sure how it survive since I lost so many games from moving a lot and some broke. Watching these videos makes me want to play again. That was my childhood and I remember the day I picked up the game with my parents.

I still have both my bundle pack red & silver MK themed DS, and its box, though I lost the little charm that was originally on the wrist strap that came with the system. I spent so much time with this game back then...

The Gold Mantis, a Waluigi kart, is known as "Mante pelleteuse", an obvious play on "Mante religieuse" (Praying Mantis) and "Pelleteuse" (excavator).
The Banisher, a Dry Bones kart, is known as "Outre Tombe" (beyond death or afterlife).

My brother gave me Mario Kart DS after he traded some chips for it during our middleschool's lunchtime.
I have fond memories of racing online while using my Action Replay to spam infinite Bullet Bills.
I would let myself get into last place just to BB myself crashing through the other racers and stealing victory away from whoever thought they could beat me.

Some great memories of playing this in 2005. Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 64 are still some of my favs in the series.

I think recently it was found that playing the game on an original DS gives a slightly altered startup screen, with Mario saying something different than what he says when the game loads on any other type of DS.
I still go back to this game just to listen to the incredible soundtrack

Ok, first of all, sorry for my bad english.
Second, as a kid I played a ton of Mario Kart DS, completed all cups and missions and still played it a lot.
But one day after turning the game on, some extrange questions poped up. I don't remember them very well, but the game asked me if I was having fun doing the same every day or something like that.
Then appeared the option of delete my save file or keep it, and because of my poor reading comprehension, deleted it.
Whenever I look for information about these messages appearing to someone else, I don't find anything, be it in spanish or in english.

Actually, Shy Guys came in all colours in Mario Kart DS, including green - not just red as said in the video.
And then Bloopers became utterly useless in Mario Kart Tour.
About the German version using the word „Jeep“: It is not uncommon for the German language to incorporate brand names synonymous with the neutral term. „Jeep“ is often used for any offroader-like car. Other common examples are „Tempos“ for paper handkerchiefs and „Ytong“ for porous concrete building stones.
One of the best games of all time in my opinion.
