big bank for a 4-cylinder turbo, not sure of long-term reliability. very glade we purchased the 2024 4Runner pro in underground color, love the old school reliable Dinosaur. Soon these older 4Runners will be sought after for years to come, it's the last great Japanese V6 ever made.
You sound like a broken record. So many four runner owners over the last 5 years repeat this exact sentence trying to justify buying a 14 mile to the gallon super outdated SUV for 50k.
@@drez8242I never get less than 20. It runs pretty good. I’ll admit the new I4 turbo will blow it off the road in a race and get 5 mpg better while doing it. The T24A is a good engine just like the 1GR. Getting 25 mpg will be possible with the current Gen 4R.
i really hate the move to a 4-cylinder turbo. Why could they not have added a new-and-improved 6-cylinder engine? I'll hold off further opinion until I can actually see a new 2025 4Runner at a local dealer, and test drive it myself.
Many manufacturers are downsizing engines in favor of turbocharging and electrification, likely due to emissions regulation. Only time will tell on the reliability. Best of luck!
Well its a good yes and a bad no. The v6 are actually harder to work on considering the engine is bigger and configuration position one side of the v6 head in bad position. Makes fixing sparkplug hard and other fixing hard. With the 4 cylinder turbo, everything is open and being in the size of the 4runner easy access is everywhere for the car. The turbo maybe a problem but once u dive into it, turbo for these cars are very different from turbo in race cars. With the lower boost it might not be bad.
Great in depth video you answered the one question I was not readily finding elsewhere - which trim levels are getting the full time 4wd? Super disappointing to learn that it’s only available for limited and platinum. Again… come on Toyota , what the hell? It’s not even the price point for the higher trim level that aggravates me. I just don’t care for the fact that it looks like a very different vehicle in those trims. I’m coming from an SR5 with full time 4wd. And this is a large reason I’ve avoided the 5th gen so far. Many of us don’t want or need the additional bells and whistles of the limited / platinum and it gets expensive modifying to undo the less than desirable appearance. Dammit man.
It is strange how they segment the AWD system and luxury features. I feel like there would be plenty of demand for lower trims with the full time 4wd like you said.
Definitely the TRD Off Road iForce Max. It seems that it's only a matter of time before we are all forever pigeonholed into 4 cyl turbo engines. May as well get some entertainment outta these hybrid engines. Toyota better be on their game haha. In Everest color too
I saw the price jump from the SR5 to the TRD sport and stopped watching. Toyota can suck it with their outrageous pricing. The SR5 is literally the only reasonably priced trim.
@jonde4445 I'm still on the fence... It's such a gamble with new generations of vehicles... U would think that after all these mathematicians, scientists and engineers working on these new cars there would be no doubt in peoples minds
The new 4Runner looks like a good upgrade from the old one. Wish it got better gas mileage and wasn't so expensive. Will probably get a Trailhunter. Our 5th gen has the OME suspension, rock rails, brake controller, 285/70/17 Baja Boss tires and a winch. Will be nice to have the trailer sway control, brake controller and tow haul mode built in.

the approach angles actually seem pretty dismal. Its hard to believe the TRD Off Road is only 19 degrees. My Outback Wilderness gets better than that.
