The only thing this new gen 4runner has over the Passport is its iconic name. It was a big mistake for them to choose equip it with a turbocharged 4cyl, especially its been documented that the tacomas are having issues with it.
The only thing it has is the name? Talk about rear lockers, talk about gears, talk about power, talk about how Toyota has always outperformed Honda, Toyota destroys Honda in every way, Honda is only good as a grocery getter
Spot on mate about the 4 cylindrical vs V6. The excess pressure from the turbo on the small 4 cylinder means that many joints and part will wear and tear quicker. Naturally aspirated V6 baby!!!
I purchased a 2005 Pilot EXL new and drove it until I got a new 2019 Passport Elite. I love them both. I'm interested in the new Passport but the one I have is still in great shape.
I loved the look of the new 4runner when it came out. But the 4 cylinder, high price and the back seats don't fold down flat killed it for me. Super excited about the new Passport!!
The Passport is for people who don’t really care about off-road, or aren’t mechanically aware of the differences between unibody and body-on-frame. Enjoy your minivan.
I think the Passport will only really compete with a portion of the 4Runners lineup. I think. It really only competes at least on price with a TRD Off Road on down. I think it’s only taking up the $45-55k mark it. I think there’s a limit people will pay for a unibody offroader and Honda is smart to treat it as such. I would take the Passport all day.
From what I've seen the 4Runner rear legroom is teeeny! Like compact car level legroom. Also, they've shown what the starting prices are, around $40k each for base line, the most expensive 4Runner is almost $35k more than the most expensive Passport
My Honda passeport will be 10 k cheaper than a Toyota Ltd and interior will be far superior! I don’t need a low gear transfer case to go play in the rocks. I have a 15k quad to do that!
Ill take Honda..6 cylinder not full of hard plastic on the interior..the ride...the Toyota viberates way to much for a $72,000.00 price...no way! Easy decision. Passport!
By rugged tradition they probably mean body on frame , low range 4x4, solid rear axle and rear locker. I can't say that I like new 4Runner engine, but if you're going off-road, 4Runner is way more capable than Passport, totally different class of vehicles. Passport should be compared with Toyota Highlander.
A couple of things I think we're missed. You covered the approach angle but not the departure angle or the amount of ground clearance. These are 2 big factors for the offroad category.
Thank you for pointing that out! You’re absolutely right-departure angle and ground clearance are key factors for off-road performance. We’ll make sure to include those details in future comparisons. Appreciate your feedback!
If it was previous gen Passport, I wouldn't think twice about taking the 4RUNNER. But this new gen Passport? I wouldn't think twice about taking this Passport over the 4RUNNER! The big numbers 326 & 465 aren't enough to sway me from a NA V6!! I should also clarify that I don't care if its a 550hp & 700lbs tq 4cyl. I'm still taking the NA 6 over it!!
In the real world 95% of these vehicles ever see so much as a gravel road. The Passport all day with the DOHC V6. The new Passport has way more off-road capability than all but a very small number of buyers will ever use. No thanks on the turbo 4 Runner if you're going to keep it for the long haul. Replacing a turbo is stupid expensive. I've never owned a Honda but I'm definitely taking a look at the Passport when it's readily available.
Hate to make such a small thing a big thing but the key fob it's definitely much better with Honda. Toyota ditch their current setup never mind customers shouldn't pay for the convenience of starting their car.
The new design of the tacoma and here on the 4 Runner the front and rear quarter panels look as if it's crumpled. Too much going on with the exterior. I'd take the V6 of the passport and the outgoing Tacoma over the new 4 cyclinder.
Just shows how ignorant most America consumers are. 4 Runner is a body-on-frame, longitudinal engine, a proper transfer case with low range and way more torque. The Passport is basically a minivan. FWD bias, with AWD and Unibody
Iron Mike vs Bambi! If your adventure is limited to grocery shopping and IKEA, the Passport is sufficient. If you’re thinking about going cross continent, Alaska, Yukon, Rockies, Baja, maybe Central America and also want to make it back, you’ll need something built to do just that. The passport will not cut it.
@@jeffm5099exactly. Also why getting a 5th Gen is nearly impossible now, especially used ones. The new Passport will sell extremely well. It dominated MOAB. If people think it's like the old Passports, they are dead wrong. Honda has perfected the new I-VTM AWD. It's a monster now.
When you park your Passport at the mall or grocery store you will walk away from it quickly, not wanting to be associated with your gf’s commuter. When you park your TRD Pro anywhere, you look back at it with pride several times and nod appreciatively at the thumbs up you are getting from men and women. Now go buy that cheaper Passport and feel like a fool every time you see the TRD on the road.
A good ol' 5 Gen? YES!!! a new 4 Cylinder Turbo??? Honestly......will never be as reliable, so I think Honda is definitely gonna hurt it's sales this upcoming year
Glade the Honda keep a naturally aspirated V6 engine.
The only thing this new gen 4runner has over the Passport is its iconic name. It was a big mistake for them to choose equip it with a turbocharged 4cyl, especially its been documented that the tacomas are having issues with it.
Let's watch what happens to both of these JDM 🇯🇵 SUVs in real time a year from now
The only thing it has is the name? Talk about rear lockers, talk about gears, talk about power, talk about how Toyota has always outperformed Honda, Toyota destroys Honda in every way, Honda is only good as a grocery getter
Spot on mate about the 4 cylindrical vs V6. The excess pressure from the turbo on the small 4 cylinder means that many joints and part will wear and tear quicker. Naturally aspirated V6 baby!!!
My 20 year old pilot still running strong, I’ll take the passport
I purchased a 2005 Pilot EXL new and drove it until I got a new 2019 Passport Elite. I love them both. I'm interested in the new Passport but the one I have is still in great shape.

Totally agree about the 4runner
I'll take the passport, easy!!
Me too
The Passport is for people who don’t really care about off-road, or aren’t mechanically aware of the differences between unibody and body-on-frame. Enjoy your minivan.
@@alexsmbaIt's sad that you have such low self confidence that a vehicle purchase decision gets you this butt hurt.
Same here. 😂👍
@alexsmba good luck with the turbo 4 😅😂
Correct me if im wrong but the 4Runner Cost considerably More than the Passport doesnt it?

The 4Runner is $42k - $75k for the maxed out one. The Passport is $41k-$48k for the high-end one.
Honda passport v6 i loved
Passport hands down, love the simplicity of the V6
From what I've seen the 4Runner rear legroom is teeeny! Like compact car level legroom.

Sold me on the v6 vs the turbo. Why go turbo? Smh
Toyota is going to lose a lot of business because of that 4 cylinder turbo. What a shame.
Ill take Honda..6 cylinder not full of hard plastic on the interior..the ride...the Toyota viberates way to much for a $72,000.00 price...no way! Easy decision. Passport!
Excellent idea to compare these two. As it says in the video, it all depends on one's priorities. Mine lie on the side of the Honda.
Passport keeping the V6 = winner
Passport for me!

Totally agree, but I’m going with the passport

Pass on the 4runner for the Passport!
‘16 4Runner here, due for an update.
I’ll be looking 👀 at the ‘26 Passport Trailsport and its V6 very, very hard.
V6 engine 👍👍
Both look great, I will have to test drive both but passport has the v6 engine going for it
Passport all the way!! Love the new orange colour ❤
Passport is easy choice for me.. style and tech. Oh and Price
If you NEED a Jeep get the 4Runner. Everyone else should buy the Honda.
We're buying the Passport.
The passport will last years longer cause it doesn’t come with a stupid turbo motor.
passport for me in a heartbeat. that V6 is 🔥🔥🔥
Has Honda gone back to timing chains on their new V6?
If I was doing alot of rock crawling I would take the Toyota, but for an all around overlander and daily driver, Passport all day.
What the MPG?
passport🏁

How come Passport with its V6 3.5lt engine has less towing capacity than the 4Runner that has a V4 2.5 liter engine???
Honda: V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6 V6. Did I mention it has a V6?
Passport. 100%
Passport 100%. Toyota has lost their way. They are the new Jeep in abandoning their fans and tanking reliability.
In the real world 95% of these vehicles ever see so much as a gravel road. The Passport all day with the DOHC V6. What about off road test?
Hate to make such a small thing a big thing but the key fob it's definitely much better with Honda. Toyota ditch their current setup never mind customers shouldn't pay for the convenience of starting their car.
Totally
I4 engine is trash
Honda V6
Well the Four Runner will be $15,000-$20,000 more soooo
Toyotas has the most accessories and aftermarket in the WORLD
The new design of the tacoma and here on the 4 Runner the front and rear quarter panels look as if it's crumpled. Too much going on with the exterior. I'd take the V6 of the passport and the outgoing Tacoma over the new 4 cyclinder.
El Toyota 4Runner es más resistente y con mejor capacidad todoterreno.
They both have engines that are ready to grenade themselves
I would love to hear your explanation for why you believe that.
two very different vehicles
Lol 4runner and Passports are in different classes.
👨🏾💻🔭🌍. Time ⌚ will tell.
Just shows how ignorant most America consumers are. 4 Runner is a body-on-frame, longitudinal engine, a proper transfer case with low range and way more torque. The Passport is basically a minivan. FWD bias, with AWD and Unibody
Pilot looks like a basic BRONCO IMO
I think you meant “Passport”.
Bronco sport
Iron Mike vs Bambi!

No solid rear axle, not made in Japan. I'll rather take the 4 banger turbocharged in that case
the 4runner will have better resale value, and is a real truck
4 runner runs forever thats why remote world and terrorist most favorite LOL
I guess not the new 4Runner😅
Not with a problematic turbo 4 cylinder, those days are over, just ask Tundra and new Tacoma owners.
@@jeffm5099exactly. Also why getting a 5th Gen is nearly impossible now, especially used ones.

Honda's are boring. I'll take the Toyota 4runner any day
Experience tells me to avoid honda at all costs. Toyota for me.
Old timer vs newcomer? Not a good comparison. Nothing can beat my 4runner!
Okay Boomer
They're both newcomers, dude. The new 4Runner hasn't got much to do with yours. Likely not as good either.
my wrangler beat your shitty 4 runner all day long!
4Runner hands down
A good ol' 5 Gen? YES!!!
a new 4 Cylinder Turbo???
Honestly......will never be as reliable, so I think Honda is definitely gonna hurt it's sales this upcoming year
Passport hands down
