People are right it really does look like a giant Ford Bronco Sport. And yes some sort of hybrid system would be nice but buyers will prob be happy with a simple NA V6 for durability purposes
But if you see the the storage area of a Ford Bronco Sport (FBS), you’ll appreciate the luggage capacity in this Passport, with second row down. The FBS has 10% less space than the Honda CRV. I know right? Strange.
Next up, the Ridgeline! This may give a preview for Honda's very practical, but much maligned, pickup's next generation. A lot of people don't talk about how wide the interior is on the Pilot/Passport/Ridgeline. It's only a couple inches narrower than the big body-on-frame size SUVs, so families have good room without having to spend $70k+ on a Tahoe/Expedition/Wagoneer. Given most people don't tow much (or at all), this is (as Alex would say) a very pragmatic choice.
Good update! I turo'd passports several times liked the spac (perfect for 4 +bags) V6 and torque vectoring AWD. Infotainment was only thing needed improving imo
Great looking vehicle Honda. Great job. I’ve always loved the passport even and it’s earlier iterations when it was just a rebranded Isuzu. One of my best buddies in high school had one and we used to love riding in that thing.
Probably gonna be my third and final vehicle I own. I need to move on from the sedan life as I want to start camping and doing more outdoors activities.
The cubby above the charger is perfect for magnetic phone accessories, like wallets, that need to be removed when on a charger. Really liking what I’m seeing as well.
I like it. A lot. It’s definitely more than I’d need, but as a rarity with a V6 instead of a turbo 4, it could actually last a long time. That might be worth it.
Maybe we'll hear about a 2026 Odyssey sometime in the next few months? Possibly? Please? It feels like a lot of aspects of this interior would work really well in an updated Odyssey (as would a more powerful version of their hybrid powertrain, hint hint).
Alex and Travis, I think it is time for Honda to get back together with Isuzu and build another body-on-frame Passport just like the original. This would give the 4Runner some overdue competition for customers of Japanese 4x4s. If Honda had remembered to include a 40/20/40 rear seat, those fishing rods 0:11 would be safely stored inside instead of leaning outside the Passport. 🤨
Everything looks good save for the 8.3” of ground clearance. An Outback Wilderness gets over an inch more clearance at 9.5”. Looks like Honda went for underbody protection rather than further lifting the car in an attempt to preserve fuel economy.
Great review Alex and I like some of the new features, which are fitting for those who need off road capabilities. But I was hoping Honda put out a less rugged model. Especially, with gas prices.
The perfect vehicle to go glamping, and there’s a market for that and social media images. It sells. I find ‘bead lock’ look to be the most hilarious new trendy thing for wheels.
Welcome back to the very much missed Honda table! Overall, a very well designed vehicle from Honda. Excited to see the next gen Ridgeline look more like this.
Rear seats should slide forward, recline, and be 40/20/40. It would also be nice to have a fold-away cover /shelf in the rear cargo area. The model looks great otherwise, but is missing those practical components.
I like the look and functionality of this new Passport very much. My next car with either be this Passport or the next gen Ridgeline that will hopefully be a refresh like this one.
This is the one I have been waiting (impatiently) for. Honda blew it on the Pilot when they had bucket seats in the rear. Bench seats for me. They finally made this into a true soft-roader vehicle.
it's a shame every 3 row vehicle tends to have bucket seats. You are either given a 4+3 seater with poor cargo, or a 4 seater with good cargo. Add a bench and you get a 5 seater with good cargo,a no brainer and yet they just don't listen.
It looks great. I'm slightly disappointed that Passport Trailsport won't have a full size spare by default. Also I'm not sure if a heated steering wheel is limited only to Elite version, it's kind of prerequisite here in Canada even for much cheaper cars. I'm not sure about practicality of the cloth on seats in Trailsport, it may be difficult to clean from clay etc. It's a real shame it doesn't have at least 9'' clearance, 8'' for an unloaded SUV is just not too much.
Love the Grand Bronco Sport looks! Seriously, they’ve done a great job with style and packaging. It’s a shame to me that it doesn’t have a more efficient powertrain or option of a just in case third row. Yes, I know that encroaches on the Pilot, but one can wish.
I love the refresh, and hopefully the next Ridgeline will have similar design features. The V6 is a DOCH, but still has GDI and VCM. Honda needs to get on board with the industry, and go with GDI and port injection.
I might be greedy, but I would love an elite trim without the off-road bits. I love the size. I love the general look, but I can pretty much guarantee that you lose a couple miles per gallon with the all-terrain tires. Plus if I don’t take my car off the road, I don’t wanna look like a poser
Thanks for the walk around Alex and Travis. Has Honda released any information about approach/departure/breakover angles and minimum ground clearance? I'm curious what the clearance is at the sliders, since the suspension articulation I saw in other videos looked a little weak. Overall though this looks like exactly what people have been asking for!
The vehicles all shown here were the top Trailsport models. I presume there will be less offroad focused models to come to fill out the lineup similar to Pilot.
Great design.. took inspiration from last generation explorer. They changed everything they needed to change. This is what the Passport should have been from the beginning... looks like they know their audience now. They can finally grab some market share from Subaru.
The rear styling is giving 'please make this legally distinct from the other mass market SUV currently on sale' vibes. I think Honda should offer a front bench seat option. The lack of a 3rd row was a deal breaker for most shoppers who opted for the Pilot instead.
I very much like the exterior and interior look of the new passport minus the non-integrated big ipad looking display. I think they made some big upgrades to the interior, but missed some small areas that would have made it feel more cohesive. I see they did not make the brakes any bigger which is a miss. The current ones are well undersized for towing and these look to be the same size. Another big question will be what will it's hitch weight and occupant/cargo capacity be. The average male American is over 150lbs probably closer to 180 to 200lbs. The current passport with 3 adult males or a family cuts the hitch weight in half or more making it useless for towing a travel trailer style camper. Staying tuned for more info!
The only thing this bums me out on is the ground clearance and the suspension droop. The front barely has any, which means if you want this lifted (which offroad should be closer to 10-12") you will be replacing all of the suspension. Maybe they went with it this low to gain mpg numbers?
i love this design. will be looking for these used in a few years! Alex - what's the point of a temporary spare if the full size wheel doesn't fit in the same spot? if you're full of camping gear, you're hardly going to have room to put the full size wheel into the back. wish it was a full size spare in the floor rather than that split design.
I think it looks just fine, I like the styling and finer touches. It does indeed look like a bloated Bronco Sport but that's okay. For me it looks like they are targeting 4Runner sales with this model. I don't know why there was a mention of the Rav4 or CRV. I like the option of the fullsize spare but the netting is a terrible design. Just use a simple screw attachment to hold the wheel in place and provide a simple cover that maybe has some pockets sewn onto the outside for additional storage.
Hi Alex, Honda needs to tone down the front end and get ride of the embossed name plates on both the front and rear ends. The Hood scoop is totally unnecessary and makes the vehicle look cheap. More Room inside is great and is what other OEMs like Ford should be doing with the Explorer, Edge and Escape. I hope they have a trim of the Passport reminiscent of the 2015 Pilot with chrome trim and 18 inch Polished Aluminum wheels.
with the full size spare option, they should of tried and find a way to attach x2 wheels. One on either side.....so the person can carry x2, or have the option on which side they want to carry at.
