    The current prices are simply price gouging. Toyota isn't the only one. We do have a Trailhunter on order and the only reason it makes sense to us is we keep our vehicles 12-14 years. Our 2014 4Runner is getting pretty tired. Wish our income more than doubled every 10 years.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  8 часов назад +4

      For the price of the Trailhunter you should really consider the GX550 Overtrail. Higher quality interior, better engine, better dealer experience, longer warranty, just as capable.

    • @kurtburkhardt5862
      @kurtburkhardt5862 7 часов назад

      That does make some sense. We simply don't want to spend the extra money we are already spending more than we planned.@@joshjamescars

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  7 часов назад +4

      I think you have to consider that you are getting a lot more for the money-and the Overtrail starts at $69,250, or less than $1,000 more than a Trailhunter. If you’re spending $68,350, another $1K for a shouldn’t matter to you. If it does, you need to reconsider the purchase. Also, for what it’s worth a base GX550 premium starts at $64,250 or $4K LESS than a Trailhunter.

    I am Japanese living in North America since 2007. My father has a 17 year career with Toyota (Japan). My first vehicle was a new 2010 FJ Cruiser my father bought me when I turned 16, then I bought a 5th gen 4Runner in 2012, then a 2019 TRD Offroad Premium, when 2019 model year released. I REALLY love that platform and 4.0 of the 5th gen 4Runner and 2010 FJ! I now own a GX550 OT+, and I do like it, BUT I 100% feel like Toyota strong armed buyers like me into buying it, by overpricing the lower quality TNGA-F platform vehicles releasing on the Toyota side. I am currently working in the US, so for me the US price for the GX550 was a bargain. However in Canada top model 4Runners are around $70k CAD, so it is frustrating to see that this lower quality, smaller displacement 6th gen 4Runner tops out at $70k USD, before dealer mark ups. That is $100k Canadian dollars, and with mark ups that is going to be over $100k in Canadian dollars. Just crazy.
    I have been enjoying your content since I discovered your channel. We share like minded opinions of Toyota's current direction😊

      You’re so right I didn’t even think about the price in CAD. $100K+ for a 4Runner, damn. And that’s the thing about these trucks I think the new GX is solid but as you say it’s overpriced for what it is. Ugh. Thanks for watching!!!

    • @lunamaria1048
      @lunamaria1048 6 часов назад

      @@joshjamescars Oh no lol, I don't think the GX550 is overpriced in the US. The 4x4s on Toyota's side are overpriced, which made the GX550 an easy choice. My only issues with the GX is the small 21 gallon tank. Lexus recently called me to see if I want the 2025 LX700h Overtrail. I'm definitely not paying a starting $113k USD for the exact same vehicle as my GX Overtrail, with a hybrid system😂. Toyota/Lexus is soon to start their decline.

      I worked in the auto industry for GMC Truck and Ford. It was in the mid 80's to the late 90's. When I started you could get a base S-10 pickup for about $6000. Even less with incentives. By the end they were $12,000. Now you can't even get a base truck, a Colorado starts about $30,000. We have 23 and a 24 Rav4 Hybrids and a 14 Trail 4Runner. We love Toyota quality and are happy with our current vehicles. We do have a deposit down on a Trailhunter. It pains me to spend as much as we have so far. The Trailhunter will be by far the most expensive vehicle we have ever owned. We do keep our vehicles a long time so after 12-14 years they do make sense. For most people (including us) these prices are simply corporate greed! Like your channel, keep being real. Hopefully, the backlash and lack of buyers will be a wake up call for the industry.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  9 часов назад +2

      @kurtburkhardt5862 If you want to keep the Trailhunter that long, DO NOT buy the first year. Wait for 26 or even 27. The Land Cruiser I drove needed a lot of refinement and my review unit has a ton of little but impactful cosmetic and build defects. Those are things that always get fixed for years 2 and 3. Tacoma has also been having transmission failures and the 4Runner is VERY closely related to it, so I’d give Toyota a year to sort that out too. Also, do yourself a favor and consider a GX550 if you’re okay spending $75K on one of these. You’ll get a much better car for the money, and you can get an Overtrail for about the same price.

    • @kurtburkhardt5862
      @kurtburkhardt5862 7 часов назад

      @@joshjamescarsYou make some good points, the Overtrail with the good package is still about 10K more. The fact that the Tacoma and Land Cruiser have been out for almost a year, we are hoping the 4Runner will have sorted out some of those issues almost like the 2nd year. I would rather wait, but our 2014 4Runner is starting to have some issues. We know some of the downside of a 1st year vehicle. I guess we will see. If they come out with a plug in Hybrid or something great, we could always trade early.

    As an owner of the 2022 Lexus GX460, I tested out the new GX550 because we needed to add a car and was throughly disappointed at the quality. Firstly, it doesn't feel as stable as the old GX. The interior touch points are nice, but the non touch points are very cheap, unlike the old GX that uses quality material all around.
    The hood jiggles were one of my biggest annoyances. As well as road noise seems a tad bit higher. Also, I felt little cracks in the road, unlike the old GX, though that could be up to the tires.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  8 часов назад

      Yep! You’re spot on here. The GX460 was built on the last gen Prado which was a luxury on and off road vehicle. The new Prado is a back to basics dedicated off-roader and so sadly the GX inherited all of its traits which don’t hold up in a vehicle that’s supposed to be premium.

      There are a lot of car companies that are keeping their prices reasonable-high, but reasonable. The fact that the Passport will probably top out in the $50s (so $20K Lower than the 4Runner) and that you can get an MDX Type-S for only $5K more than a TRD Pro says a lot about the value that Honda/Acura offers. This 4Runner is the same price as a comparable Land Rover Defender… that’s not in line with other brands.

I paid $57.1K out the door, taxes in, for my 2020 Limited, which seemed like a lot then, but I’m sure glad I have it now. Thanks for bringing up all the issues I have with the new Toyotas and pricing in general. Another plus on the last generation 4Runner with the V6 was that you could get the TRD Offroad, put some TRD wheels on it and it looked just as good as the TRD PRO model. However, the new TRD Offroad has cheaper looking black plastic fender mouldings, although this is probably more practical than the TRD Pro painted fender mouldings...so you won't be able to replicate the looks of the TRD PRO on the TRD Offroad anymore with a switch of the wheels. The TRD Offroad just looks cheap to me in the pictures with all that unpainted black plastic on the exterior. Maybe things will look different in person. Also, hopefully some upgrades will be made to the production models as prototypes sometimes have more hard plastic than production models. We'll have to see.

    Fortunately, I am not in the market for a vehicle, and with the exception of the 200 series Land Cruiser, I have not been inside a Toyota product in 30 years however, both, this version of the 4Runner AND the current Land Cruiser APPEAR to be massive downgrades from their previous iterations. Both interiors look particularly "cheap". I am in the minority in that I thought the 200 series Land Cruiser with the 3UR-FE engine was the pinnacle of Land Cruiser quality.
    I have spent considerable time in older and newer Lexus RX products and there does not seem to have been the same drop off in quality and aesthetics as there appears to be with Toyota products.
    If money is an object (and you care about build quality), it's probably best to look for Toyota/Lexus products of the 2012 to 2020 vintage, especially when it comes to their trucks.

      Yes! Though our new Land Cruiser is a different member of the global Land Cruiser family. The 200 series which I also loved was the full size flagship Land Cruiser. This new one is the midsize Land Cruiser Prado which is also what our GX has always been based off of.

      Having driven the Land Cruiser which has the same powertrain as the new 4Runner, I wouldn’t take any of the new gen trucks until Toyota seriously improves that powertrain. It’s laggy, jerky, and inefficient all at the same time (plus the Land Cruiser requires premium fuel).

Come on i cant imagine paying 50k for mid trim tacoma. Its shame as i ownd 88 91 02. LC fell down even worse. I have 99 with 380k miles. Was excited for new lc until i saw it was 4seater buff rav4. Listen, you can't order a 4Runner, everything is through allocation, and Toyota is not going to produce many base trim SR5's, so don't even think about getting a 2025 4Runner for less than 50k OTD. And the top trims are going to be north of 80k OTD.

I don't want to purchase the first production 4Runner. I know I want an SUV for the space. Should I go GX550? MDX? QX60? Or maybe, Toyota will change by then once they realize no one's buying their SUV's.

They all can't be horrible vehicles, maybe just not worth the asking price, but doesn't that hold true for most new vehicles? A lot of people out there will lots of disposable income, will want the latest and ... latest. Seems like, in general, prices have gone up too much, and quality and reliability have gone down.

    Who in their right mind will buy a raptor for 100k?

    Edit: I blame the new CEO, when Toyota was under Akio Toyoda....everything was wonders.... The new North America CEO and his team are doing a horrible job.

      Yeah, although with the Raptor R you get a seriously awesome truck with a V8 and an interior that feels like you have something special… can’t say that about this or the Tundra 🥴 And agree at Nissan, although if the wanted to get out of trouble they ought to make another body on frame pathfinder or Xterra like thing. Keep the V6 but with Pro4X capability and there’s a solid budget alternative to the 4Runner!
