    I am not a fan of what they've done with the hybrid battery here. It is in the cargo area, which is not good if you have wet items in the rear or something leaks back there. It requires you keep several vents clean and unblocked in a cargo area in order to have airflow to keep the battery cool. And I have heard that the deck lid at the very rear, designed due to the battery location, can only support 150 lbs; again in the cargo area where that little area could see some weight, though it might be in only odd circumstances.

    LOL at some of these comments. For the vast majority of 5th Gen 4Runner owners, the top complaints have been how the 4Runner is hopelessly outdated and underpowered in 2024 standards. Now that they have seen the 6th Gen (and the LC250), the 5th Gen is suddenly back to being Toyota's irreplaceable chariot of the gods. You simply can't squeeze any more power and torque out of that naturally aspirated V6. Toyota gave what the whiners complained about - more power. The result? Even more whining than before. LOL!!!

  • @ethanadams9135
    @ethanadams9135 11 часов назад

    I actually like how long Toyota keeps their models around for. It shows that the vehicle is reliable and dependable for several years to come. And I like old school simplicity of their vehicles; no constant rotation of complicated bells and whistles that no one needs or really uses, which goes out of date within a year or two that other truck and SUV brands employ. Toyota's dependable conservatism is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

    The 4.0 L V6 is under tuned for longevity. The 2.4 is over tuned for 2023 emissions standards. Turbos recycle exhaust for combustion. Use premium fuel and let the oil cool down after a minute or so before turning off and you can still get longevity out of the 4 cylinder’s though. Toyota still makes a good engine.

    I love everything about my 5th gen 4Runner, EXCEPT the gas mileage but I wouldn't spend around $60k to solve that problem especially with the longevity issues associated with a hybrid/turbo 4cyl. I'll give it a few years and then re-evaluate. But RUclipsrs always upgrade and encourage the latest-greatest because it drives content.

A LOT of people won't agree this was worth the money, and for them, that is true. For you, I think it was. Primarily because of what you said about features. I would not take the 2024 TRD Pro for what it is over the LC you just bought. I hope it gives you years of reliable fun. Are you going to swap out tires? Are the wipers rain sensed? Did you say it has adaptive cruise? In our state, those things have become features I would very much like to have had on my old 2018 4R TRD OR. But I did not buy it for amenities, I bought it for its rugged long lasting capabilities.

    Panhard bar mounts could be a reason why the LC flexed better on this test. The 4Runner's panhard bar mounts to the axle on the driver side which might limit driver side droop. The LC's passenger side droop might be limited for the same reason.

    $77k+ vs $55k? Not sure that jump is worth it. I don't think either are really. I bought a 4R TRD ORP in Lunar Rock and slapped most of the TRD Pro parts on it for ~$12k less than a TRD Pro would've been. I'm totally happy with it and it's basically the same vehicle. The 4R platform will last forever. We have no idea how long these Land Cruiser hybrid systems will do long term. Probably ok but still, it's unproven.

    Just curious, for the money, why did you end up skipping over the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail? Its in the same price ball park, Lexus generally has better quality standards and overall it has better performance then the LC, larger tires, more trunk space and better towing numbers. Love the look of your Land Cruiser though better than the lexus and Land Cruiser is a better nameplate in my opinion haha.

      There's a few reasons to go with the LC trim + Premium Package over the GX. The LC is equipped much better than the GX550 OT, but is roughly $12k cheaper than the similarly equipped OT+. The GX also has abysmal real world mileage, whereas the LC can exceed 20 mpg. I also prefer the physical HVAC controls.
      Admittedly, the First Edition trim is a bit overpriced.

      Same 265/70r18 (32.5 or "33s") tyres on LC250 and GX. Only the lowest LC trim has smaller 245/70r18 (31.5"). Of course you don't need to swap the OEM ATs on Overtrail, whereas the LC ones can go off right on dealer's lot.
      Rest is true of course. But the way Toyota market segments is that you can never have all the features you want :- )

So, all this capability is actually useless if you cant make it back or, eventually you do, but then you have to worry about how to deal with warranty lawyers... Caveat: on road manners of 4Runner equipped w/ KDSS probably rivals the Land Cruiser. Sway bar is also beefier on KDSS models for minimal body roll. 4Runner w/ KDSS also has increased articulation under 12mph with essentially a disconnectable sway.

  • @RJ-vc2ju
    @RJ-vc2ju Месяц назад

    It'd be nice if you took the same line for the articulation section in both vehicles. Also, as you must surely know, the best 4Runner model for articulation is the TRD Off-Road with KDSS, as it disconnects (hydraulically) both swaybars below 12 mph. I've never given two hoots about all of the electronic nannies as I enjoy driving my vehicle and having as much control over it as possible. The only thing that I like on the new Prado is the Torsen centre-diff, but again, only for paved road, mixed condition (snow and rain) driving , as you still want to lock the centre diff for maximum slow speed, technical and difficult off-road conditions.
    Funny how we are - 3 years ago you could buy the best (non-70 series) Land Cruiser in the world (the LC200) for $86000 in the US, and now you're paying $77000 for a Prado :) Imagine getting rid of the top of the line Supra and giving consumers the GR86 for the same price and having them thank you for it - good one Toyota!!!!
