Correction regarding the 120 lbs (60kg) rear storage capacity. The decal referenced the front storage board, not the battery platform. This section is being deleted from the video (RUclips processing time may take a bit). I own it when I misspeak, thanks to everyone that helped provide the clarification.

Great in depth review, Brad. I think we can all agree that the Land Cruiser is a great looking vehicle, but it's great to have someone experienced like yourself talk about the good and the bad (such as the rear cargo payload limit). As a Gladiator owner, I love seeing other off-road oriented SUV and trucks on the road. Bronco's, ZR2 Colorado's, Raptor Rangers/F150s, Grenadier's and now the Land Cruiser. There are truly a plethora of great offroad vehicles available on the market and I don't blame you one-bit for choosing this over another Jeep. I'm a Jeep Cherokee XJ guy through and through. I've been driving them since 1988. I love the old school boxy look and the XJ's ridiculous capability. Seeing this new Landcruiser with all the tech and that glorious old school boxy look, I have to say, I'm REALLY liking the look of it and can definitely see myself behind the wheel of one. I don't believe I'm alone in saying that a very large percentage of consumers have a like mind as myself regarding old school looks meets modern tech. If Jeep remade a Cherokee that actually hearkened back to the XJ I'd be hard pressed NOT to buy one. But it always seems Jeep thinks they know what consumers want better than the actual consumer. Toyota looks like they got it right and I absolutely love that! I'll definitely be tuning in to see how you build her out. Can't wait!

If I need that much capability, I can always hop back in the XJ, but my back has started to protest when I take it on 2k+ mile road trips. And to be honest, all that new tech is just fun to me :)

Proably the best LC 250 series review ive scene!! Nice to see someone go over one of these who actually does overlanding and wheeling. Quick note @ 22:00 , the locking the center diff is the same as 4hi in other offroaders. The full time 4wd is more like All Wheel Drive until you lock the center, then it's a normal 4HI. From my expereince in my V8 4runner, it's a nice system. It has been in most LC's and some other Yota modles for a good 30 years. A great system for bad weather or heading up into the mountains in the winter, don't have to worry about shifting when you are on the road but if things get really bad and you need some more traction the center is always there. Only downside is fuel economy but if you are putting 35's it's all smiles per gallon anyways 😁

I agree with you that the full-time 4WD is nice. I have the part-time case in my 4Runner, I do like being able to run 2WD, but if my girlfriend was driving it in spotty weather, there would have to be a whole lesson involved in that. I like that with full-time you just get in and go.

8500klms in my Grenadier, most of that remote touring in Australia, as they say, built on purpose, would definitely have one over a Prado (Landcruiser 250) less electronics than the Toyota etc etc. Time will tell but so far so good and its got what we call Bush-ability. No limp mode if a sensor has a dummy spit.

I’m surprised you chose this over the 4Runner. Seems almost exactly like the 4Runner. Actually I think the 4Runner has more capability and is more attractive. I’m not sure why Toyota would even offer these two vehicles at the price point they are currently offered at. I drove both and honestly they drive extremely well. I much prefer the interior of the 4Runner though. I’m also curious if Toyota has addressed the issues that plagued past vehicles when it comes to the electronic controls for the 4 wheel drive and other off-road systems.

I personally think Jeeps are better for hardcore rock crawling rich dudes who can tow the Jeep to the off road site and back. If I’m overlanding and exploring off-grid, I want the proven reliability of Toyota. That being said, I hope Toyota rights the ship with the new Tundra, and I hope that this new LC proves as reliable as its heritage.

The price point of the Toyota shocked me a little honestly, I looked into the 1958 and the interior is definitely not a 60K vehicle worthy one! The Mid-trim model you have is more money than my base Defender and that was the 2nd shock I got from the land of the rising sun! Using Apple car play in wireless mode works well but runs the phone battery down in just a few hours if using navigation apps, so you're gonna be corded anyway. I don't like the front end as much as you, looks too much like an F150. The boxy appearance might get broken up a bit with a winch addition. I think they could have done better there.

Toyota is not selling an SUV with a cargo capacity of 120 pounds, that's silly. It's referring to the weight limit of that removable panel which only extends about 6 inches back from the rear hatch. There's a little storage space in there. im sure the aftermarket will make tougher panels for the paranoid but i really think its a non issue.

My stock JL Wrangler Rubicon with proper 33” BFG KO2 off road tires, best low range gearing, 4:10 gears, front and rear lockers gets 22 MPGs if driven nicely and maintained properly (fuel system, catch can etc). The cost to properly lift a IFS vehicle is more expensive, add to that the cost of wheel and tires. As far as reliability, on my lifted Tundra build I had about $18k in repairs for steering rack, leaking transfer case, water pump, bed damage, and body damage. I have seen Toyotas on the trail with busted CV joints. The Pentastar 3.6l v6 on the Wrangler has been in over 10 million vehicles. Some may get lifter/rocker issue but that is a $2-3k repair and can be DIY, and the risk can be mitigated by cooling, increases oil change intervals and heavier grade oil - and extended warranties up to 100k mi from Mopar can be purchased relatively cheaply if you search the forums and shop around.

You can put more weight, the 120 lb refers to the board, which can be replaced.
    * The board could break if over 60kg objects are placed on it.
    * The board could dislocate if a load is applied from above onto the back end of the board.
    * To remove the board, lift the back end of the board and slowly open the board. If the board is opened or lifted with force, the hooks on the front side of the board could break.
