I'm personally going for the LC. If the GX was available with the hybrid, I would go for that. As for the LC vs 4R, I love the coolbox in the LC (a small feature, but great for me, as I travel extensively), the climate controls for the rear, and the full-time 4x4 across all trims. Both vehicles will be great, but the LC is the better fit for my needs.
Thank you for this video. I almost got cold feet on my LC to wait for the 2025 4Runner. Definitely back to my gut when we saw the LC for the first time. Agree the back cargo area is a little cheap looking and feeling with the storage. Land Cruiser feel for sure. Curious about the gas for the 4Runner as LC is premium.
I would get the LC. I've seen First Editions come with Nitto ATs straight from the factory and those more aggressive tires significantly improve the relatively mundane appearance of the LC (compared to the 4Runner). The LC deserves to wear real ATs anyway. Besides, it is easier to justify spending $70K on a LC than on a 4Runner. The LC is more refined in every way and can likely keep up with the 4Runner offroad in most conditions.

Here in East Tennessee, there is one stand out for me because we get a lot of rain and some snow. The Land Cruiser is the only model out of the two with full time all wheel drive
Does anybody expect to be taking a $90,000 CDN Land Cruiser off road? It’ll be great in the snow for sure, especially with all wheel drive and locking diffs.
Another small miss on the 4runner, but no lights in the hatch sucks for camping, doesnt look like any in the roof of the cargo area either, just the two down low. The 5th gen folding seats and flatter load floor will also be very much missed.
I like them both, but find it odd that the LC doesn’t have a more off road-oriented coilover system like Fox or Old Man Emu. I’m sure many will upgrade to their own liking, but hard to stomach investing more $ with dealers adding $10-15K mark-ups on these LC First Editions, and it (the upgrade) wouldn’t be covered with a factory warranty. That being said, the 4Runner seems like the lesser of two evils, while still maintaining its heritage and capability.
They could’ve saved themselves 15 years of development and just put an 8spd transmission in the 5th gen 4Runner. The new Land Cruiser looks like a nice 6th gen 4Runner except that it’s missing the roll down rear window.
That LC is hideous on the exterior. My choice between them is the 4R. However I’m annoyed with the new trucks from Toyota and won’t buy either. 2020/21 tundra all day long. Haha. Great vid bro!
I’ve been debating both of these platforms. I’m on a waiting list for a First Edition LC, but if I can’t get one, I’m not really interested in either of the other two trims. I currently DD a 2017 SR5 and it’s been solid, but once I’m ready I’ll probably go 4Runner again over LC. The two trims I’d probably consider would be either the Platinum with some sort of TRD setup like the Tundra or the TRD Pro. Good comparison video Jon.
The 1958 is the LC to buy imo. It has a lot of nice features without the price tag of the luxury bells and whistles. Reminds me of the TRD Rock Warrior and the early TRD pros
I haven't watched the video yet, but I will say I want that new 4Runner. But the more I see the Land Cruiser, the more I think this is the real deal. Both are too expensive of course, but if price wasn't an issue, I think I would go with the LC.
I'd choose the 4-Runner. I need to probably trade ours in since it's a 1999. To be honest, I prefer the truck platform, and a narrower wheel base, but I know that's not an option anymore. And 70k?! Maybe we will keep ours another 20 years.
A $70k 4-cylinder turbo just doesn't add up for me. Styling aside, part of being "rugged" and "off-road capable" is being simple, reliable, and (dare I say) affordable. The tech features are a mixed bag, and overall I'm just not sold on any of these new Toyotas.
No way it’s $70k for the 4 runner and that would only be the TRD Pro version which only soccer moms buy. What I’ve seen are prices about 10% higher than what they are for the 2024 which are around $44k so you’re going to come in at about $48k to $52k for the trail hunter version.
sadly, new land cruiser is a 4runner limited with a plate on the bottom to protect you on speed bumps when heading to the mall. 4runner trailhunter is the real off road winner or you can upgrade the base model yourself.... you can get a hybrid version for the low low price of 70k or more... 6000lb towing limit with a 4cyl engine sounds good on paper only.
Dealer said they stopped producing Land Cruisers and can't sell ones they have on the lot. Some kind of issue. Maybe just the roof rack thing. Maybe something bigger...
Very disappointing that Toyota does not offer the 4.0 v6 as a base option in North America. Overseas Toyota offers the 4.0 v6 in the 300 series Land Cruisers for people that do not want the double turbo engine.
$70k is I agree with the other comments. Absurd. I just want a stock bone 4runner. good looking body, part time 4wd, and a engine that is known to last forever. Jeep is looking like the better option for a brand new vehicle nowadays.
The Land Cruiser is iconic. It’s classy looking & still a status symbol at any trim. The 4Runner is more for Toyota loyalists who will still pay what they have to to get what they want. The 4Runner buyer wants the extras. The Land Cruiser buyer wants the person behind them to know they’re driving a Land Cruiser!
I just can't get over that tacked on volume knob in the Land Cruiser. It looks so cheap and out of place it would literally keep me from buying one so I wouldn't have to see it every day. New 4runner looks fantastic I really like it.
That new 4Runner looks so good to me. But I definitely get why people are upset about the 4 cyl. The price is also crazy, but I’m not surprised, pretty much any cool higher trim level new car is outrageously expensive right now.
If you go to Toyota's site and build a mid level Land Cruiser, with minimal options, it's mid $70k's. A fully optioned one will be over $80k, so really no difference in price compared to the 200. $70k for a TRD Pro 4 Runner, or the Trail Hunter is crazy. Especially when compared to the low/mid $50k's the 5th gen TRD Pro 4Runner cost...

Does anybody expect to be taking a $90,000 CDN Land Cruiser off road? It’ll be great in the snow for sure, especially with all wheel drive and locking diffs.
People (including myself) do it with Jeeps all the time. So yes.
@@jackbauer9347 I get the “it’s a Jeep” thing with jeep ownership but I believe there may be a different ownership/age dynamic with a Land Cruiser.
Another small miss on the 4runner, but no lights in the hatch sucks for camping, doesnt look like any in the roof of the cargo area either, just the two down low. The 5th gen folding seats and flatter load floor will also be very much missed.
cool to bump into you at the Friday Overland Expo happy hour! keep up the good work on the channel!
Great time!
I’d go Landcruiser. I simply cannot stomach the looks of the new 4Runner.
Reveal reminded me of the reveal of Homer Simpson's car.
@@jwlafferty🤣
I'm Rich and Patient and will wait for the Trail Hunter Land Cruiser Edition
Well, aren't you modest😂😂😂
Landcruiser is sitting at or around $80k locally here in NC
Shouldnt be
how disappointing is the legroom in the back seat of both of these? I hear LC is a bit better than 4runner, but sheesh they both look wicked tight.
I think trail hunter is the best 4Runner option. And I think it’ll be better off road then the pro and land cruiser
That LC is hideous on the exterior.
My choice between them is the 4R.
However I’m annoyed with the new trucks from Toyota and won’t buy either.
2020/21 tundra all day long. Haha. Great vid bro!
Fair enough! Thanks dude!
Trailhunter 4Runner...not in a hurry. Still have a 5th gen.
My lord just when I was 100% certain I want a Land Cruiser Toyota come out with this beautiful 4Runner
I wish we had the 4Runner here in Europe as well 😥
I haven't watched the video yet, but I will say I want that new 4Runner. But the more I see the Land Cruiser, the more I think this is the real deal. Both are too expensive of course, but if price wasn't an issue, I think I would go with the LC.
What is the weight difference between the two? Is there any mpg differences since the 4Runner has 2wd options?
I don’t get why we have two of the same capable off roaders with same engine.?I’m confused and conflicted by it.
So basically top of the line 4runner competes with the base Landcruiser? Winner is the bare bone 4runner with same engine specs, towing, etc.
Which one is better ?
I'd choose the 4-Runner. I need to probably trade ours in since it's a 1999. To be honest, I prefer the truck platform, and a narrower wheel base, but I know that's not an option anymore. And 70k?! Maybe we will keep ours another 20 years.
A $70k 4-cylinder turbo just doesn't add up for me. Styling aside, part of being "rugged" and "off-road capable" is being simple, reliable, and (dare I say) affordable. The tech features are a mixed bag, and overall I'm just not sold on any of these new Toyotas.
Who cares how many cylinders it has? The 4 cyl has way more power than outgoing v6.
Emission, emissions, emissions....
$70k is I agree with the other comments. Absurd. I just want a stock bone 4runner. good looking body, part time 4wd, and a engine that is known to last forever. Jeep is looking like the better option for a brand new vehicle nowadays.
70k?? My neighbor bought a 24 Tacoma this summer and has been in shop 3 times for tranny issues
Ground clearance on 4Runner vs lc? This also help us decide.
They are similar with the 4R beating out the LC just by a little.
4R 6th gen has 9.2 inches of ground clearance compared to the LC w/ 8 inches. 5th gen 4R pro has 9.6 inches
I rather take the land cruiser just because of the full time all wheel
Drive and knowing I’m never going to take it off road and just city driving
The Land Cruiser is iconic. It’s classy looking & still a status symbol at any trim. The 4Runner is more for Toyota loyalists who will still pay what they have to to get what they want. The 4Runner buyer wants the extras. The Land Cruiser buyer wants the person behind them to know they’re driving a Land Cruiser!
Current wants 2025: 1st Sequoia, 2nd Tundra, 3rd Highlander, 4th 4Runner, 5th maybe Land Cruiser
Need: Lexus GS350
Have: 39-42 mpg '15 Honda Civic :-)
Hey John what's the best formats for 5th gen 4Runner?
I’ve liked the lasfit ones I’ve had in mine.
Our Huskies are perfect
Looking 👀 at the 4 Runner.
For the same price, I prefer the LC because of the styling.
If this a a part time 4wd 4runner it is by definition a center locking diff.
No flat load floor with rear seats folded...fail. Same as Sequoia.
I’ll be keeping and modding my 5th gen trd off road and go for something sportier for $70,000 for commuting.
might as well pay a lil more and get alot more performance with the Gx550 overtrail with E-KDSS and a V6 Turbo
4Runner TRD OR with upgrade package.
I think trail hunter is the best 4Runner option
