Not worth the control imo, I don't watch nearly as many random reviews anymore because they are less enjoyable. It's sad that dealerships always do markups. Although we bought a 2023 highlander xse for sticker price, and then this year in January a 2024 Tundra platinum for $7000 off the original Sticker, the dealership had, cause it took some negotiating. Enthusiasts want to be able to fix their car on the side of the road, not be forced to go to a dealer. • @davea6917

Doug, I think you and we all know these facts:
Toyotas North American division loves selling restyled versions of global products because Americans like “extreme” and “fun” styling on their cars. The 4Runner, at least since the 2nd or 3rd generation, has always been a Tacoma/fun/americanized, slightly decongested version of the Land Cruiser Prado and that’s still what it is.
The rest of the world doesn’t like camo seats and tough looking AC vent knobs, they just want a Toyota suv that is off road capable, because it’s a tool used for a purpose. We in the US like to dream we’re on a tough mission in Africa when we’re really just car camping after a shopping spree at Walmart.
As in cases with many North American specific products, the 4Runner is a bit of a meme of itself.
That being said, I love my 5th gen SR5, it’s similar to a Prado GX/TX without the BS.
The Land Cruiser J250 (Prado) is for the enthusiasts who love global products and want a semi-lux off road SUV, and the Lexus is the full luxury version, as with the J300 and LX.
The line up in my eyes is like this:
    1. Hilux and Fortuner at the bottom. Cheap and utilitarian/meant for third world markets.
    2. Tacoma - road focused light duty truck for NA market
    3. 4Runner - a fun NA market family off road SUV
    4. Land Cruiser (Prado) - global market sibling to 4Runner without the gimmicks. Popular in Eastern Europe, Africa, and Australia as a family off roader or as a fleet vehicle for organizations that need a basic off roader that is comfortable
    5. Lexus GX - mid size off road luxury suv based on light duty Land Cruiser Prado
    6. Land Cruiser - large off road 7/8 passenger SUV used for commercial applications and by Eastern European gangsters and Arabs who love to off road in the sand dunes
    7. Lexus LX - the most expensive Lexus based on the full size Land Cruiser for wealthy suburban moms to commute to their boutiques.
    8. Tundra and Sequoia- because Toyota wants to compete with the suburban and expedition
An off-roader for everyone, it seems!

I've been looking forward to this new generation for a long time but I'm concerned about the motor. It seems to deliver the power and torque but I'm looking at longevity. I'll definitely sit out the first year since that's where most of the bugs are in a new gen vehicle. I wonder what the it weights and MPG, now that it has a 4cyl turbo ?

I had a 2007 4Runner Limited V6. Very underpowered motor relative to fuel mileage. Needed the entire suspension replaced at 265,000 and it was very expensive due to the air-ride system Toyota used on this particular model, which could not be replaced with a similar system. The truck absolutely sucked for a tall person. It would refuse to go into 4HI a lot, ended up needing a new transfer case at around 240,000. Had a couple weird electrical issues, the main one being it burned thru low beam bulbs like crazy. I ended up getting a nice LED headlight system with new projector housings which cured that issue, but then it started throwing codes from it and yeah, sold the truck... somehow I profited off the truck even after all the money I put in, lol the market for these is so insane.

Toyota specifically said, probably after Doug posted this video, that the air intake on the Trail Hunter is not a waterproof snorkel. It is strictly a raised air intake for getting above dust on dirt roads when with other drivers.

Couple of things, 3rd row seat is available on the current 2024 4runner, but only in the limited trim. This impacts the height of the floor in the storage area, about 4 inches above the non-3rd row 4runners. The new hybrid models clearly has the same design to house the batteries. Not sure how they are going to fit a 3rd row in the hybrids models, storage space will be hugely impacted. The camera system while off-roading is already a feature in the 2024 model as well.

People seem to misunderstand, the 4 cylinder isn’t an issue, Toyota has put out bullet proof ones for years. The issue arises from the hybrid and turbo they tac on. The reliability of turbo hybrids is questionable which Toyota fans are scared about, myself included. But hey, if anyone will break the mold it’ll be toyo.

Your point of the cross over between the 4runner and the LC is valid and really begs to question what is the point of bringing back the LC. They should have pushed either the LC or the 4r into the serious offroader category with 35s and front and rear lockers to compete with the Sasquatch and Bison edition from the competition. Then leave the other SUV as an everyday SUV with off-road capabilities.

Toyota is just out here killing it in looks and tech! 4Runner (HEV), Land Cruiser (HEV)/GX550 (HEV?), Sequoia (HEV), Tundra (HEV), Tacoma (HEV), GR 86, GR Corolla, GR Supra, RAV4 Prime (PHEV) , Prius Prime (PHEV). Scratches every itch I could think of except for a super car and I couldn't afford that anyway.
