BROTHER!
There's absolutely no reason for that to be $70,000 when 90% is universally used from the Tacoma, from the frame to the powertrain and the interior. I honestly feel that Toyota under delivered the 4Runner. And the exterior is a mixed bag of everything, Hard Pass.
Yea I wish we got the 4R first so it didn’t feel that way.
could not have said it any better myself. Well done, great statement
Toyota has gotten out of touch with its customers these last few years.
WOMP WOMP unfortunately Toyota don’t care because someone will buy it
Made in Japan vs made in Mexico. Japanese quality is legendary. I don’t disagree with you though
Don't forget dealer adjustment +15k, dealer added accessories +5k, taxes and fees.. $95k out the door what a deal!
and this is for a 4 cyl car too.....
No way, really? This is getting scary.
Dealers are the death of these brands. They need to go.
Yea all the added BS too.
Not just the dealers trd Jon….. call a spade a spade… Toyota upped their prices and are pillaging the middle class and all the idiots that remortgage their house to buy one of these…. But trd Jon will never state the facts because he might not get invite to the next Toyota press release
Hate to say it but the more I see the more ambivalent I am. Can't unsee the mustache. No hood struts in 2024? Wonky Tacoma interior? Gloss black on an off-road vehicle? That hybrid battery pack will test the warranty. And they want over $70k for this? Hold on your 5th gens, gentlemen.
not sure yet on price. Hope it isn't
It also look like a Xterra from the side.
75k nahhhhhhh dude. Not a chance
Then buy an SR5 and stop whining. TRD pro models have always been a small fraction of sales
@@jonde4445 Oof. I didn’t mean to trigger you Mr. Offended.
@@WesternRAM you’re the only one triggered and offended bud
@@jonde4445 sorry to offend you
@@WesternRAM sorry Toyota offended you with the price of a car you were never going to buy anyway
Just purchased a ‘24 4R TRD PRO in Terra. I was waiting for the 6th gen but wasn’t super impressed on the powertrain once announced. Immediately put a deposit on a ‘24 and finally delivered. Really happy with my choice!
How has it held up?
Last Fall we bought a 23’ Toyota Sequoia TRD Off-Road. Paid 71.5k for the “Lunar Rock” with all the options. I’m so glad that we did! Especially seeing the value for what Toyota is doing not even a year later! This is insane! 🤯😂
Very nice!
I think they did a great job w the updated design but they should’ve gone w matte black trim instead of shiny black scratches will be totally noticeable
If this is 70k we should all go onto the Lexus GX 550 overtrail
This will be a lot cheaper to maintain. Don't buy a lexus because you'll end up paying more for the name than you will for the vehicle.
Lexus drives amazing tbh. I have a 5th gen 4runner and 2010 lexus. Driving difference is day and night. What maintenance? lexus is probably even better built than Toyota imo.
You get this 4cyl or the doomed 6cyl engine that is failing left and right on the Tundra, Squoia, and LC600 that it is also now on the GX550. I would wait 5 years for them to sort that engine out.
I just don't think this is going to be a timeless design like every other 4Runner (including the 2010 design which I loved). Feels more like something teenagers would be all over in 2016.
I plan to get a new vehicle later this year and I'm warming up to it as an option. But only as a more affordable and capable SUV if I feel like being responsible with my money. Toyota will never have a chance with me if they overprice this. I'll just spend more on something else that I feel I'm at least getting some value for the extra cash rather than overpaying for what's ultimately a middle class SUV.
I hope it starts around the same price as the 5th gen.
70k, goddamn. Few years ago land cruiser 200 was 80k, it was the ultimate legendary toyota with just 1 trim. Now look where we r.
Yea that thing was way overpriced as well
Great job on the video Jon! Thanks for making it. That looked like a button on the key fob that pops the rear hatch, but I didn't see one on console for such a task. My only real complaint about sleeping in my 5th Gen is the inability to open the rear hatch from the inside.
there is one on the fob here and also on the driverside near the AUX buttons
If this is 70k, it makes zero sense. Why would I buy a 70k 4Runner when I can buy a 68k Lexus GX overtrail?
Exactly
Because the Lexus takes premium fuel and has worse fuel economy
@@TheChitty69 Lexus is a luxury brand; all time 4 wheel drive, and is a 6 cylinder.
@@TheChitty69I don’t think anyone buying a GX cares it takes premium fuel or MPGs is worse. It’s a better package all day.
Thanks for showing. Good job🤙
Like the exterior change up. Wasn’t a surprise that bells and whistles would be updated. Maybe Toyota said hell, let’s put the same stuff in the 4R.
Nice looking rig. It’s new and it’ll sell. No matter what people say about the price.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
Price absolutely matters. It will not sell just like the Tacoma. Dealers are packed with them.
@@front_man001
Local dealership can’t keep the 🌮’s on the lot.
Just saying ✅
Definetly are dependent for sure. Saw like 5 on the lots in Texas, but still nowhere near the 20 they had on their lots pre covid.
@@MikeSchneider-wz3ol I'm in central Oregon. Dealer has 14 and even discounting under MSRP.
Still wishing Toyota would feature a new manual transmission with this generation 4Runner.
Yeah, considering it's heavily based on the new tacoma. Hopefully, that and the isodynamic seats will come as options at some point during a refresh or something.
Good point Jon.
In my circles most have 2 cars.
I looked up statistics and only 37% have 2 or more cars. That was a surprise.
For the fender flares, I can see putting paint protection film on them. Keep them from getting scratched.
That would work for sure!
I feel like they should have just made them body color instead of black
Weird why it doesn't have the digital camo exterior or parts, I love it on my Tundra Pro
Great 2nd video. I was excited when this came out. However, I am really not all that impressed with it. From the 4th gen to the 5th gen was a huge jump but with the same old school look of the 4Runner. I have a pre-facelift 5th gen 2011and I bought it in 2020 because I really like the flat box look if it (took a while to find one). From the current 5th gen to this 6th gen its not a big step up like we saw previously. Its supposed to be an all new design but we have seen it with the Tacoma. My 2011 4Runner has no issues and still runs perfect yet, I am really considering on buying a new 5th gen even with the very minor HP and TQ losses that the 4.0 V6 has from the 6th gen. I think durability surpasses MPG as well.
Good review, but $70k!? Toyota is definitely reaching with these prices. I paid around $56k I believe for my 2023 TRD pro.
Only very low iq or wealthy people would buy these vehicles at this price
I paid 42K for my 2018 TRD Pro...So what is the $14K difference between ours? Old 5th Gen at the end of the day lol. Hopefully this is right at $65K
When they revealed it thought it was meh and that the Tacoma was hands down better looking. A month later I definitely came around and it grew on me. Love the design. Still not as good looking as the GX but overall I would love to have one.
Can't wait to see it in Black.
Dude all black would be sick!
@@TRDJonspeaking of black, any info on when you get to review the platinum trim?
Probably gonna be at the drive event i'd say. I'm excited to see that one
Do you know when you can start placing orders/allocations for it? I heard it should be hitting lots by fall (assuming non hybrid first)
Appreciate the review. Fake hood scoop. Space-occupying cupholders for a non-existent third row. Space further limited by hybrid battery. Gloss black scratch-prone fenders. Far too many misses and compromises in my book. And that's before one considers what can only be expected to be atrocious pricing...
I have a 2024, with underground grey color TRD off road premium and I’m still in love with it, it was expensive, like $54k new with 9miles
I see the results of sharing the same platform across different models. Too many compromises. The biggest being the rear seats that no longer lay flat. I love 4Runner because it was a cavernous box that swallowed everything. I’m talking about the 3rd gen. I skipped the 4th gen hoping the 5th would go back to its roots. Where you could fold the seats down almost flat (the little bit of angle is perfect for sleeping) and sleep in the huge back area on overnight fishing trips. I could raise my tailgate and keep the sun or rain off me. I could stow away my gear in the enclosed rear for any pit stops knowing it was safe. I don’t know who this 4Runner is for but it is not for an outdoors person. I have no idea how after two generations the 4Runner keeps getting wider but the interior space gets smaller. I guess oversized tires and huge fender flares are what is most important to young people. I’ll take a skinny 3rd gen that I don’t have to worry about the Texas brush marring the sides. All these RUclips folks can talk about is how they managed to get larger wheel and tires on the new generation. Since ‘98 I have used 265/75/16 tires and have only gotten stuck once in my adventures. Rant overs.
I stick with my beloved ‘98 4 Runner. Pass on this generation. Hopefully the 6th gen does some soul searching.
It’s close to flat but only the hybrid model unfortunately. Which means it will cost $$$. Not sure if there will be a cargo tray or anything like they had on the 5th Gen to make the floor completely flat. We will have to see when we get more information about it.
So happy I scooped up a new 2024 Limited before they are gone
Awesome video. thanks for the walk through. I just don't understand why they can't tell us the prices of this stuff. I'm excited to see it in person!
There is alot that goes into pricing this early on. Transportaion, materials, production costs, and also profit. They don't really have concrete pricing until it is closer to production time.
This is awesome, can't wait to see SR5 and TRD Off road
I can’t wait to see it either dude
Yea I think most people aren’t as excited because most of the middle class can barely afford to buy groceries
That isn't a toyota problem, that is a gov problem man. We all need to step up this go around for sure. We are sick of it as well.
What do you think of this color bath mud compare quick sand? I sure hope it will looks phenomenal on tundra trd pro 2025.
I personally like it better. Especially the metallic flake to it.
It's pretty cool, but cool enough to replace my 5th gen with any time soon especially for $75g?
Nahhhhhh
lets all just let these things rot . paid for 21 tacoma i can wait a long time 70k is crazy
I like the rear end angle the best on the new 4runner. 🔥
Looks good for sure
When do you think the trd pro of the 4 runner and tacoma be available?
Tacoma should be this/ next month. 4R will be around Nov/Dec
@@TRDJon heck yea
I’d love to see the ground clearance under the rocker panel. The prior generations have always had a fuel tank that hangs well below the frame. So, I’m wondering how these new ones look down there.
When you use the remote start does this suv keep running or shut off when you unlock the door?
It will keep running
That's the big thing with Toyota that I hate with the remote start
Yea my Tacoma stays on now. I think it is a new feature with these new Toyotas with the 3.0 safety system.
@@TRDJon copy that
Do you have wheel specs? I know you mentioned tires, but not so much on the wheel.
It’s an 18” wheel. I believe 8.5” wide too like the Tacoma
Will this take 91 like the LC or 87 like the Tacoma Hybrid?
Should be 87. LC doesn’t require to my knowledge. Just recommended.
Are there any recovery points? Or least a factory option?
Yes both front and rear
@@TRDJon tow hooks or recovery points?
Can the moonroof be partially opened or must it be completely opened on 2025 4Runner.
Yes
Love the trailhunter, but I'd rather have a moonroof to see the stars, i dont use a full top camper. Any idea when Premium trim info is coming out? Hoping it has the Everest color. I think ill need to get that and then add my own off road work.
People are not understanding that inflation is worldwide, Honda canada is selling civic for 32 g to 47g. Ram now sells trucks for 60 to 130grand. Nothing is cheap anymore worldwide
I need a new car soon after my current 09 GS350 and I'm thinking about 4Runner for next. would be very nice if I get the TRD PRO but so much $$ now. sad but may consider lower trim
Yea for sure a lower trim would be ideal to save the ?
$$$
In the next 3-4 weeks I’m going to buy the tried and true 24 model . Well proven drivetrain.
Congratulations dude!
Good luck buffing out those glossy black fenders😄
Pretty easy honestly.
If you got to buff after every outing the clear coat will be gone in no time.😂 PPF is the only logical way. Gloss flares look horrible IMO.
Oh for sure.
Can't wait till the SR5 model or just a TRD OR looks like.
Agreed!
Thanks for the video!!!! Excited to see what’s to come in the future for the 4Runner…. I love my 5th Gen, but I appreciate the effort that went into the 6th Gen. I know Toyota is listening to us……
Really having trouble getting used to the new 2025 look. In every video I notice something new that I don't like. What's up with the Panasonic RQ-2104 cassette tape recorder look between the A/C knobs? 11:23. No es bueno.
I’m not impressed with the redesign. The land cruiser is a much better pick now.
This is the very reason why I bought a new 5th gen.
I want the GX550 engine in the 4Runner 6th Gen limited...otherwise, GX550 trial plus is the one I will go for
I don’t know how to feel about this truck. It’s very nice but 70 K to have a whole bunch of buttons and whistles that you’re not gonna use all the way completely completely the capacity of towing is impressive. I will just stick to the fifth GEN naturally aspirated engine that means no turbo problems and honestly if you’re gonna be driving the Toyota forerunner you’re not gonna be driving like mad Max I’m gonna pass Relieable. It’s actually an analog vehicle and a vehicle that would have less maintenance compared to this one as in more money in my pocket.
I wish you would have measured the cargo space in inches. Especially the height with the hybrid batteries there
Didn’t have a tape measure on me my friend.
The color is growing on me; liking it more than Terra for sure
Oh way better than Terra imo
Jon, I have recently viewed some other channels which have reported thousands of blown motors on the new generation Tundras. They also reported some channels are not allowed to address this issue because they are sponsored by Toyota. Can you address this issue in the future? It definitely makes me pause at the thought of buying a new Toyota truck. God bless!
Those engines are failing due to a casting issue. Lots of early 2022 models are having the problem. Metal in the oil causing the enigne to fail around 20-40K miles.
Cost savings? lol 😂that was funny
I like to joke lol.
Damn, really considering in trading in my Lunar Rock Pro for this...
Usually against my religion to the get the 1st year of the next generation though just so they can get any kinks ironed out.
You are smoking crack if you give up that pro for this.
cant wait for the 7th gen..
15 yrs later lol
Have you made a comparison between the new 2025 4Runner vs the 2024 Land Cruiser? Would be interested in seeing that.
;) video dropping today
I occasionally tow. I would never consider a 4 cylinder. I would say maybe a GX 550 but not the engine problems the TT V6 is having.
I’ll wait if there’s a 6th gen V2 just like the first 5th gen it eventually changed the front facia/rear, right now it’s kinda giving me a dodge durango vibe.
How tall are you? For height reference on the truck
5’11
For $70k Lexus GX
When will Toyota show us the new SR5 and TRD Off-road 4Runner?? I want to see the lower trims and prices.
Dude I agree! Big miss on them honestly for now showing the SR5 and TRD OR at the event. Those are the core sellers for sure. Would have been nice to see them
Baby got some back
I wish there were more exterior differentiation. What is the point on getting a 4runner when it is exactly the same as a tacoma? historically they have always been different with some similarities. Front fascia speaking of course.
Waiting for the 6th gen mid generation refresh already 😂
I don't like the curl up at the rear doors so I bought the 2023 model.
might as well just get a GX550 overtrail plus, several people have claimed no markups from the dealers. Better engine, luxury, and has a lot of potential off-roading.
Yea those at 80K I don't think worth it at all. Normal overtrail imo is the way to go
Better engine? The main bearings are blowing in the new tundra with the same engine
I was thinking the same thing until I read that 3.5 turbo engine has had its share of main bearing failures from its introduction in 2018 and still applies in the 2024 Tundra models ......... Unfortunately Toyota quality has declined .....so I don't know anymore .....
Wait did the price get released yet?
No. We are assuming mid to high 60s because of the Tacoma TRD Pro pricing
Mid to high 60's and 80k otd.
Thoughts on buying a 2024 instead of waiting for 2025?
None really, if thats what you wanna do then 100% do it. Great vehicle
Dude this is 70k in theory man. After dealer markups of 38k this will be nearly 110k. After taxes will be 120k usd bruh. That’s not ok
No need for MA,
Toyota just redesigned Camry and made it all hybrid and barely increased the price. They have now redesigned all their body on frame vehicles with ridiculous price increases. They lost what made them great-affordable dependable trucks and SUVs for the middle class. These are now upper class vehicles.
While I agree, that is just for the base model on camry. The Tacoma was only raised by several thousand as well. The real difference is when you start adding all the features and crap to it. Thats the biggest jump.
The 2025 4Runner looks to be sitting pretty level on factory suspension (vs. the 2024/5th Gen where the front end would need a few inch leveling kit to even out with the rear). Agree? Thoughts?
I agree
I think I will wait for 7 gen, maybe by then I will have save enough money 😂
Do you think it is worth the 65k-70k price tag?
Nope. But thats where vehicles are. I dont think my new Tacoma is worth 50K but it still was
@@TRDJon agreed - still hard to swallow that this is the new normal.
Does it have power folding mirrors?
Not that I saw, but it may make its way to the production models
@TRDJon when i zoomed in it looked like it did have the button controls.
Good eye!!!!
Can you speak on fuel economy? Difference from the abysmal 5th Gen ?
I touch on it in the video. Should be like new Land Cruiser numbers
Can anyone answer if this will be offered in 6 cylinder option?
No there wont
Unpopular take, but since I can get like 15k off MSRP of the Armada, I think I'd rather have a full size Armada with the V8 for the same or even less money
For sure deals on that. I think a new one is coming soon too, just keep that in mind.
@@TRDJon oh yeah no doubt. I think year end after they announce the new one you'll be able to get the current gen armada for very cheap
Yea if you plan on keeping it for a while, then resale doesn’t matter. So get the best deal you can!
I came with an open mind to watch this and hopefully see something in that interior that really impressed me… but I’m feeling underwhelmed. The way the 2nd row tumbles does not seem as effective. Agree with you Jon on the fact the dash should have been a bit more unique with the 4Runner. Too close to a Tacoma.
Feel like I’ll be hanging on to my 5th gen longer than I thought…
I like the styling but I am completely unexcited by the 4-cylinder hybrid. I'm going to keep my 5th Gen.
For sure new powertrain needs to prove itself, but if you get the chance to drive one in the future, I highly recommend it.
Hopefully the interior will also come in red.
Yea a cockpit red interior should make its way to the 4Runner as well
Very few people would complain if Toyota decided to keep the current 4R as it is through the year 2030. There is no need for this update. I think the current 2024 looks better than this new version though I don’t think the new version looks bad. The problem with this new form will be the 17 to 20% increase in price.
The 5th Gen already went up that much just from when I bought my TRD Pro. It was 42K. Now they are 56K for pretty much the same vehicle. It's wild the cash cow toyota had done on that model
@@TRDJon They have gone up a lot over the last several years. I figure its a price ramp up, to help cover the tooling and Engineering cost of the new model.
What can I say. Been anticipating this for a looooong time. I feel hugely disappointed. And the gloss black accents are are hard pass. Maybe it’ll grow on me but for now it’s a huge letdown. If I was in the market I’d go LC and not this at all.
But I’m sticking with my 5th gen anyway.
I like the new land cruiser design better

Jon should I wipe my ass or wait?
Glad the TRD Pro 4runner doesn't have the stupid pro seats from the tacoma
Aside from some of the new features like sway bar disconnect and what is hopefully a more modern feeling transmission, this seems like a downgrade from my '21 off road premium model. Hopefully they iron out the looks in future revisions, and I also hope they go back to an actual fold flat bed.
TUNDRA is to SEQUOIA / HILUX is to FORTUNER / TACOMA is to 4RUNNER. Thats just how TOYOTA SOUCE is made.
The EPA got its fangs into Toyota!
Everything looks nice until you open the engine bay, 70k with no engine cover to cover those lines and no hydraulic hood support.
Yea the prop hood is honestly very disappointing
@@TRDJon 70k Jon, unacceptable, the base 5th gen SR5 has a much better looking engine bay than this, they put a nice cover on the tundras but not on the LC 250 and 4 runner

The price isn't out for the new ones.
That much money, and they have the audacity to cost cut the hood struts lol! Wow Toyota getting real greedy. The tumble seats are a downgrade too, i feel they could have done better with that. The base sr5 will probably be the best deal, no hybrid to worry about.
I really dislike those gloss black fenders. I think they cheapen the look of the car. I wonder if we can get rid of those somehow.
I agree that they don't look great, but what do you mean you "wonder" if we can get rid of them? Wrap them? Get them painted? Replace them with an aftermarket option as soon as they become available? There's no wondering. It will be an easy fix for anyone who doesn't like the look of the gloss black overfenders.
