For me, this is the perfect CCW pistol out there. Its 8 shot capacity is very practical, as most sub compact semi's carry about the same. Totally reliable, no jamming or other issues with a revolver. If .357 mag is too hot for some people, they can use .38 special instead. Its my favorite CCW, period. Thanks for this video, great job.
I know this is 6 years old haha, but you could use some form of sanding tools to grind down that bottom finger riser and then trim the total height of the grips so that the bottom of the grip sits flush with the bottom of your fist. It would minimize printing and give you a more comfortable grip
Hornady does seems to put some high flash powder in their .357 defense loads. Setting people on fire levels of flash. The bad thing about finger grooves they are just random sized and dont fit some hands so it hard to get a consistent grip. S&W makes classic style grips that are the smooth plainish type grips on S&W's of yesteryear. It might be worth a look if you want to lose the grooves.
I just bought this pistol a 2 weeks ago. Due to,work load and just stuff I have not shot it yet. I have been caring a H&K USP compact in 9mm. I had a FTF at a range practice day. First time ever. Was upset so I bought the S&W to carry. I have a Colt Python 6" just to big to carry. So I am used to 357. I found the gun at Buds at a great price. I have a custom holster inbound. Have you tried the Barnes Vortex self defense rounds. I hog hunt with Barnes they open up with five I believe solid copper petals. Drops hogs DRT. This is one heck of a great wheel gun best trigger I have ever pulled in DA. I reload and will, play with best round to carry. Great video. One of the reasons I bought this gun was your videos. Thanks.
I'm finding that I now choose different clothing since I carry every day. Button shirts with OWB holsters seem to work best for me. I want this pistol because it's beautiful and it's an excellent choice for up close and personal encounters.
When you mentioned in your previous video that you were going to get smaller wood grips for your 327, I thought you'd end up with grips even smaller. The ones that I use on my 325 are smooth and expose the metal on the bottom, which affords a slightly better profile for carry. I have the old style Secret Service grips, and they do just fine with 185 GS and 185 GS +P. I also have a set of fancier, better looking Rosewood grips that feel about the same. Now...there's a big difference in felt recoil between a 325 and a 327, and that might be why you want the slightly longer wood.
Storm Silagy thanks! I think I'm going to switch them out. Waiting for the Eagle Grips to come back in stock but from what I'm being told by tons of people, they will never have them because they supply most of them to S&W? I don't get this?
And yes they do come checked. And the order process is a bit funny, because they come from Germany! So you find the grip you want, order it and then they send you a confirmation that they received your payment and that the package is shipped. No tracking number.... Lol and you get it in two weeks. And it's so nicely packaged it's funny. The Quality of the product it's so good you will giggle. They are perfect!
Joel Walker Thanks so much for the explanation on the ordering. I've ordered overseas a few times and its weird - it always ends up at a USPS facility and is stuck there for at least 2 weeks+?! I guess its been dubbed "The Black Hole". I'll take a hard look at these but I'm also searching for the secret service grips on the bay...thanks again
Daniel Chadwell agreed. Also when I return (I'm going to be away for the next 3 weeks) I have a story to tell where I think the full house mags did a number on my 327 :( Stay tuned...
FYI, Gun Test Magazine which is sort of like the "Consumer Reports" for guns is doing a review of the S&W 327 next month (June) according to this month's issue.
angelo grillasca I cancelled my order actually - possible 2mo+ back order time!? Forget it. I'm hunting on the bay for some used ones to try out. Hopefully I find some. I have been told by a few guys that the 327 2" has a slightly different shape thus if I were to get the secret service grips they won't fit completely flush unless I get the ones S&W sells directly. And they want $140! Thanks!
Thanks for the update my friend. Damn you rock with that beast. I'm too lazy to carry a revolver that big . I gotta stick to my 2 J frames. Have a great weekend and see you Wednesday .
Those grips look great on there, they do make the grip shorter but the problem you had with them at first sucks.I guess training with that type of grip is highly necessary.I have never dealt with revolver grips that have finger grooves,I have no experience with them I may also have that same issue.
caddilacjim they don't seem to really work for me but I can get around it...so I'm hoping to get those Secret Service grips at some point. I doubt Eagle is gonna pull through. Kinda strange...
You should do a vid on why you prefer a revolver for ccw then a semi. I carry a semi, but I also do have and enjoy shooting revolvers. To me it was always a capacity thing, more rounds the better. I know you can carry extra ammo but I was curious of your reason why you prefer the revolver. I also think they make A great CQB gun because you don't have to worry about it going out of battery if its pressed against something. Thank you love your videos.
GLOCKDADDY85 I'll try to do a vid on that soon. It mainly has to do with confidence and spending so much time on one. I still love the 1911 as well but have not carried one in quite some time. Although in all my years of carrying a gun - it has been the 1911 that was on my hip for the most part. So I'm use to the "limited capacity" I guess. I carried a P7M8 for 2yrs as well. And living in a state that restricts...thanks for the kind words!
Have you considered trying Ahrends smooth wood grips? Nice grip, smooth wood makes for a really nice concealment grip. They also appear to be shorter than the VZ grips. I love VZ stuff, but maybe not for the N frame.
taterporkchop I have - but they still seem to be too large? A guy at the club has them on his 627 PC 2.5" and to me they look to be the same size as these VZs which I am no longer a fan of anymore. The other night it caught me just right again so...they have to go.
hey buddy good video and awesome firearm...I have order grips for my walther ppk from eagle grips and when i order them they were in stock and they took forever ever like 8 months for me to get them. I also live like 20 minutes from there factory in Illinois. I called them a number of times to ask about my grips and i would get the same answer " there on the way" they told me. So when I got the grips from them the grips lines around the checkering where not straight and even , it looked very unprofessional and crappy!. I would not waste my time and money with eagle grips bro, that just my experience with them this was like 4 years ago when i order from them so maybe they better now but i doubt it.
Boss442 Mustang you are not the first person to say this. After this vid I got a handful of msg's of people telling me they would order "In Stock" grips from Eagle and then get an email saying they are backordered. All of them basically cancelled the order after 1 month or so. Very interesting....... a few people that bought them off eBay told me they are not "cut right" and will not fit most revolvers correctly. The only ones that will are the ones that S&W has and they want an insane amount of money for them. Kinda interesting how Eagle works. I think eBay might be a better choice.
There’s a rubber grip that’s very small and around 35.00 dollars on eBay if u can find it the seller is Byrons I watched a RUclips video of a guy that has the pc327 like we do and he loves them I purchased these off of eBay last week and put them on the pistol but haven’t fired it yet the guy on the vid says there nice and very concealable I also have a lobo holster owb so it looks like we have the same setup
Have you checked on the Hogue bantam grips for your revolver? Very similar to the Eagle grips, plus their available at a few places. I saw them at Midway. Really enjoy your videos and find it really intriguing that your edc is a revolver, not to mention a N frame at that. I enjoyed your armored vehicle stories (as I'm in the security field) and similar incidents have happened to me. Keep up the good work!
Tracy Chan I have not - could you shoot me a link for this specific grip? I'll chk out midway but yes I'm looking for something very similar to the secret service grips. Unfortunately I'm getting a lot of msg's about Eagle Grips and thinking I'm gonna have to look on eBay. S&W has them but they are way overpriced but I've been told those are the only ones that will fit flush with my n-frame. A ton of people are intrigued that I would carry this specific wheelie as an EDC. Its interesting how people get curious about this. Most people would never but they still are intrigued at this choice of carry. LOL - armored car - no more vids on that topic. Long story. Feel free to send me a message!!! Thanks for the comment!!!
I have a couple of 627's, 8 shot ported model and the hunter model that came out in 1989. I been looking for the Performance Center snubby, but haven't seen one. I'm a bit old school and prefer Pachmayr grips on Smith revolvers. I know their sticky, but have shot with them on.
the wood is always beautiful but no doubt about it when it comes to shooting especially consistent rounds down range like one does training the softer rubber does make a difference. Rubber is practical. Wood is beautiful.
Hello, They say that you are most likely to need to use your weapon at night. I would test that "Rottweiler" in low light conditions. With a blast as bad as you say, you would really have to make that 1st shot count, because you might be both blind and deaf afterward. If that is the case, I probably would consider something else for EDC.
John Davitt yes at night it is blinding with those 125gr loads. With the Gold Dot short barrel its minimal for sure, like a 38spl+p... I'm thinking its time to change carry loads.
fire1777 I saw those - but are they as short as the Secret Service grips? Those are the ones I really want to try. But unfortunately from what people are telling me, I will have to wait 6 months to get them directly from Eagle???? S&W has them in stock but I'm not paying the insane price. Maybe eBay is a better bet!
What would worry me about a short barrel revolver with a super powerful load like that is if you are up close and personal, say rolling around the ground in a scuffle, and had to make a contact shot where the back of the gun was against you and the muzzle was against the offender, that sort of muzzle flash would injure you just as much as the other guy, except he would also have a bullet in him. I'm just imagining that a huge fireball like I've seen those guns throw could come up in a defensive situation when you're that close and possibly flashing your face, and temporarily blind you, if not worse. It's not really a problem with the gun is fully extended in front of you, and you have eye protection and double your protection, but hold that gun 2 inches in front of your sternum and pull the trigger. Knowing that if I had to, it would probably send me to the hospital for such bad burns would scare me if I had to use it in a defensive situation.
re loader? what gun fight in the world will you need to reload another 8 rounds in. if the job isn't done with in the first couple shots, save whats left for your escape plan. but great gun, love mine.
MrZOOBLAST very true! But its good to have the discipline to be able to reload this thing under stress as using a 5-star is difficult. I so wish there was an SL Variant 8 shot loader but no dice. But very true and thanks for the comment
I practice reloading only two shells at a time from an elastic 6 shot bullet holder on my belt. Probably faster than using a speed loader. Plus easier to carry the spare shells. Also I never shoot .357 out of my S&W snub nose light weight. .38+p will give better gun control.
revolver8shot I tried the moons but the one day I was going around town to the mall, grocery, etc... I ended the day hitting the range...shot 8 shots and then reloaded and realized my moon in my pocket was not going into the cylinder. Kept messing with it and it refused to load. Looked at them more closely and noticed I bent the moon. So I no longer use moons for carry. Also for an 8-shot it seems like the moons do not drop in as easily as say the 6-shot moon? If you have any suggestions let me know.
ERIC K. Clint Smith seems to carry one on his ankle!!?!?!?!??! For real! He uses a 5-shot ankle holster. That is impressive. He also uses it in a pocket! I know of one LEO that bought one of these as a back up and keeps it in his pocket. I wish I could see that!
Thanks for the video! I tried the VZ grips on my trr8 and they did not work out for me. With the 5-inch barrel, I thought it lacked balance with these. Why do you favor speedloaders over moonclips? I grew quite fund of the moonclips in my trr8 and 627 PC snub and would not even consider using a speedloader anymore. I am curious as to why you use speedloaders. I would value your opinion on the matter. By the way, I have a set of ahrends grips on my 627 and these are pretty great in case you want to try them
Greg90731 the moons in 8-shot seem to be more difficult for me to load in under stress. Maybe I need more practice but the main reason is one day after carrying a moon in my pocket of a full day I noticed it got bent and there would have been no way to drop a bent moon with rounds into the cylinder so...I'd be out of luck. If there was an S.L. Variant 8-shot loader - that would be the ultimate loader. I'm still not a huge fan of these 5-Star loaders because #1 they sound like a damn maraca walking around and #2 because of slight "give" under stress sometimes it hangs up trying to load the cylinder (not often but it happens). SL Variant would be a punch it in and you are done. 5-Star is get it in and then twist the knob to release. It can be done with tons of practice. Also if the need arises (unlikely) I also carry an 8-shot speed strip at times so that I can do a tac re-load if need be. Not practical but I still practice it. Its clumsy and slow but... If you have any thoughts on moons for the 8-shot let me know. Feel free to send me a message. With the 325 TR the 6-shot moon just flys into the cylinder! It also appears that the moons are stronger for a 6 shot 45acp??? Let me know! OH please let me know which model Ahrends you are using. I've seen a few of the guys at the club have them but they appear to be the same size as the VZs I have which I no longer like at all.
ive had a bad xp with eagle grips. only 1 xp but never again since i didn't order from them again. ordered secret service grips for ruger LCR 38. it was criminally expensive, like 130 dollars. did not say it was out of stock until i purchased grips and money withdrawn. then i get a little email saying it'll be in stock in a few days time. ok fine i thought, a bit rude to takemy money first w/o an out-of-stock heads up on the website but few days is fine. ended up taking about 5 weeks for grips to be in stock, during that time i called several times and each time they told me a few days it'll be here. just slightly late is what they say. bullshit. either they're lying to me or just lack of accountability. when the grips finally got in stock, i said you know what, they dont deserve my business. asked for full refund. turns out their eagle grips dont even fit my LCRx model with exposed hammer. only fits LCR DAO models, but eagle doesn't mention that at that time (i think now after many complaints they do warn you now about LCR vs LCRx grip frame). i figure a quality grip company that charges me custom prices for stock grips ought to be more knowledgeable and responsible than that. eagle grips = rip off
Stevedog191145 The 627 Pro IS a beast!!!! That thing can handle any hot 357 loading. But I do agree with you on the "snubbies" re: blast. That's why I do think the Gold Dot short barrel formula is a very good idea. The Buf Bore short barrel still produces a massive amount of flash. Gold Dot is pretty normal. I did chrono it with the help of a friend and we got like 1115fps to 1130fps with the Gold Dot Short Barrel 135gr 357mag.
I notice flash on my 627 with cheap ammo. Underwood ammo in the 627 is fun. But nothing with my 586 6inch. I will look for Gold Dots short barrel stuff but finding anything here in Maine other then shoot em up stuff is hard.
3:34... ...lol... I lost most of my hearing from Ted Nugent concerts in the seventies. ...lol... I actually enjoy the sound of guns. I can actually wear ear muffs without the foam inside. When I play my drums I wear the muffs empty. Same with shooting. My ears don't ring yet but I am losing my treble. I paid over a grand for my Kimber K6S and wish now I would have layed that money down on this instead. It's so much more gun for the money.
Seems kinda silly shooting such a hot load through a gut gun. Its not like 357's are even accurate past 5 yards out of a 1" barrel. My ccw is a 637 I practice with out to 10 yards, but even that is a gut gun. That 327 is definitely a sweet ccw though. Enjoying your videos, I'm an S&W fanboy too.
+Gun Collector007 uh oh. LOL - you are not the first person to say this. I think I converted 2 people so far! I know of a shop that might have one in stock now...
This is the very reason why I hate finger groove grips for revolvers. Many of the old sixgun shootists like Bill Jordan etc. would have told you to go with smooth grips on a fighting revolver. They allow you to still get a good grasp on the gun even with a hasty or less than ideal draw. Jerry Miculek likes smooth grips as well for this very reason. With proper checkering or even without, they offer plenty of grip. Most finger groove grips made are only designed to fit ONE size of hand. Not surprised you had trouble with these. A revolver's grip should not be something you have to "get used to", it's quite obvious these aren't your grips TheOl1911. I'd call VZ and see if you can get a refund. I think your Eagle Secret Service will serve you better for all your purposes, keep us posted on how they do! Also, how in the hell do you conceal that massive N-frame cylinder for CCW? I have trouble with guns that have K-frame size cylinders LOL!
D5quared91 good stuff here! Thanks for the comment!! I am trying to get the Secret Service grips instead as that is what I am looking for. So any suggestions please tell. The one prob with Eagle Grips is I keep getting msg's from people saying the same thing. Never in stock and takes months to get. The grips are of poor quality in the sense of build and a lot of people say the grips are not cut perfectly for the size frame you buy them for? The only ones that are cut perfectly are the ones S&W sell? I don't know. I am able to conceal the N-frame no prob. For real. IWB is fine and OWB is fine. But I do wear pants 2" bigger for IWB. OWB just wear baggy shirts or a button up to conceal it. As the temps go up and up and up - not sure....we'll see!
***** I'm not sure about the quality control on Eagle Grips, but the design looks to be perfect. These style boot grips are great as they fill the hand, giving you more control as the gun won't move around as much during firing than with other grips. But, they are still highly compact and the wood will not print or catch on clothes like rubber grips can. I also like the checkering on them. They just seems ideal for a concealed revolver, honestly I wouldn't worry too much about the fit/finish. I've heard good things about Eagle Grips. I'm looking to possibly get a pair of these Secret Service grips for my Charter Arms .44 Bulldog.
Ok cool what's your email? Oh I can do you one better, I just watched your night guard 386 video and realized there are a lot of Connecticut plates in that video.... I live in Stamford!
Steven Schultz thanks for sharing - a handful of people have been asking me where to buy one and I always direct them to Gun Broker. You getting the 627 snub nose?
Smith revolvers are junk. They are putting all of their Q C in their plastic guns. Have a new 686+ The finish on the gun sucks ejector rod came unscrewed.Never buy another Smith.
Have you considered a semi auto? Revolvers have terrible high bore axis, the tiny barrel for the huge overall size of the gun is atrocious. That's why you're getting huge fireballs and obnoxiously loud report.
socomelite1 yes... For most of my carrying life I have carried a 1911 (Gov't size mainly). I've carried a P7M8 for 2yrs straight back in the early 00's. And of course carried Glocks and M&Ps on/off throughout the years. I'll be looking at going to the Gold Dot short barrel now. I am able to handle the 327 2" no prob but then again I invested a ton of time in it. But yes you are right on the short barrel. It creates way too much blast and its insanely loud. With the Gold Dot short barrel I notice a tremendous difference in lower flash and "normal" report.
Joel Walker thanks I'm gonna check it out! I was gonna say you can email me pics if you so desire. Oh, when I return I need to make an update vid - my 327 2" had to go back! Stay tuned!
Hey sorry I'm late to comment on this video! i have the same 327pc. The grips have are flush with the frame of gun and it give you a three finger groove grip..... in rosewood! I've been carrying it for about two years EVERYDAY and no printing with these grips! "Nill-grips" Nill-shop.com product# SW01HO3
Joel Walker Thanks for the heads up on Nill. I looked them up and they seem like something I would invest in. But I'm really looking for the "Secret Service" size grips and unsure if they are like those? I cancelled my order with them as it was like a 2mo+ backorder time and I started getting a lot of msg's from other guys that ordered saying it took 4-6mo to get grips from them so I said forget it. I also have heard the Secret Service grips for the 327 2" will not fit flush because of the slight difference in the way the frame is shaped. Do they offer these Nill grips with checkering? Also how is the ordering process? The other night these VZs got me just right again so I'm done with them. They do not fit my hands... Thanks for your insight!
For me, this is the perfect CCW pistol out there. Its 8 shot capacity is very practical, as most sub compact semi's carry about the same. Totally reliable, no jamming or other issues with a revolver. That's the sexiest snub noise I'm ever seen not to mention one of the most practical ones with it being eight shots.
So i8 u 7th

Always love Speer. Beautiful revolver I’m weighing my options between that one and the 360.

The high blast and flash is powder wasted. A longer barrel is what that ammo was made for. It'll still poke a whole through a bad guys ticker.

usmc2511 that's gonna be interesting! There really isn't much about this wheelie.
i got secret service grips for my sp101 . they looked great . fit perfect . and concealed well . they were a great choice for my sp101 . good luck .

Love mine! Worth every penny!

Hi.I like your video very much. It's really great. I'll keep an eye on your channel. I am your fan and I will support you.
the wood is always beautiful but no doubt about it when it comes to shooting especially consistent rounds down range like one does training the softer rubber does make a difference.
***** You've got a great channel. Your videos are kind of like getting advise from a friend. Keep up the good work.
Kim Ahrend boot grip available quickly on eBay. Check'em out you might like them.
fire1777 I saw those - but are they as short as the Secret Service grips?
Knowing that if I had to, it would probably send me to the hospital for such bad burns would scare me if I had to use it in a defensive situation.
galamonkey very good points. Thus the reason why I should go with the Gold Dot short barrel 357mag as the blast/flash is minimal.
re loader? what gun fight in the world will you need to reload another 8 rounds in.
if the job isn't done with in the first couple shots, save whats left for your escape plan.
but great gun, love mine.
MrZOOBLAST very true! But its good to have the discipline to be able to reload this thing under stress as using a 5-star is difficult. I so wish there was an SL Variant 8 shot loader but no dice. But very true and thanks for the comment
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I practice reloading only two shells at a time from an elastic 6 shot bullet holder on my belt. Probably faster than using a speed loader. Plus easier to carry the spare shells. Also I never shoot .357 out of my S&W snub nose light weight. .38+p will give better gun control.
What about all the information about the poor "canting" on many Smith & Wesson gun products?
I'm suprised you go speed loader over moon clips. I really like the color of the VZ grips
revolver8shot I tried the moons but the one day I was going around town to the mall, grocery, etc...
I had the same grips but I Dremel the fingers off work great
File down the grips to your liking. Take charge.
what a beautiful gun
Try sanding that finger bump down a little bit at a time.
David Goldberg I think I'll just switch them out. Looking for more concealable grips...
Cool video. I would have one of these as a backup.
ERIC K. Clint Smith seems to carry one on his ankle!!?!?!?!??! For real! He uses a 5-shot ankle holster. That is impressive. He also uses it in a pocket! I know of one LEO that bought one of these as a back up and keeps it in his pocket. I wish I could see that!
the black grip makes it more good looking man....oops,, it is brown.
I have pictures of mine, but I'm not sure how to send them though
I've seen a few of the guys at the club have them but they appear to be the same size as the VZs I have which I no longer like at all.
ive had a bad xp with eagle grips. only 1 xp but never again since i didn't order from them again. ordered secret service grips for ruger LCR 38. it was criminally expensive, like 130 dollars. did not say it was out of stock until i purchased grips and money withdrawn. then i get a little email saying it'll be in stock in a few days time. ok fine i thought, a bit rude to takemy money first w/o an out-of-stock heads up on the website but few days is fine. ended up taking about 5 weeks for grips to be in stock, during that time i called several times and each time they told me a few days it'll be here. just slightly late is what they say. bullshit. either they're lying to me or just lack of accountability. when the grips finally got in stock, i said you know what, they dont deserve my business. asked for full refund. turns out their eagle grips dont even fit my LCRx model with exposed hammer. only fits LCR DAO models, but eagle doesn't mention that at that time (i think now after many complaints they do warn you now about LCR vs LCRx grip frame). i figure a quality grip company that charges me custom prices for stock grips ought to be more knowledgeable and responsible than that. eagle grips = rip off
man a little printing is no big deal. if it is carry a 5 shot ruger sp101 or smith 649 or 640
It's a freaking snub nose N-Frame, it's huge - so it's going to print more.
If you don't want to print, you need to carry a J-Frame.
Great update.
Stevedog191145 so far so good...
I went with the 627 Pro because I like the balance of a 4 inch. I shot a friends 686 2.5 and wow the muzzle flashed was crazy. It makes you flinch
It's so much more gun for the money.
simplesmente linda essa arma.
Might be a bit off topic. What are your thoughts on the ruger sp101?
I don't have any experience... but I know guys that own them and love them so...
Why not moon clips?
Damn losing the feeling in ur pinky is serious
I don't like finger grooves on my grips at all
aikido10 agreed...VZ might have to go
Seems kinda silly shooting such a hot load through a gut gun. Its not like 357's are even accurate past 5 yards out of a 1" barrel. My ccw is a 637 I practice with out to 10 yards, but even that is a gut gun. That 327 is definitely a sweet ccw though. Enjoying your videos, I'm an S&W fanboy too.
I thought you carried a glock 19? Why'd you stop?
I have to stop watching you talk about this gun (watched 5 times) I feel its calling my name and I am running out of room in my safes. lol
+Gun Collector007 uh oh. LOL - you are not the first person to say this. I think I converted 2 people so far! I know of a shop that might have one in stock now...
Eu quero um desse no Brasil 🇧🇷

I'm not sure about the quality control on Eagle Grips, but the design looks to be perfect.
I live in Stamford!
egunner dot com has one right now. I do not work for them or anything. I have been look for a 627 and found that 327 on that site.
Seems legit. Holds 8 rounds correct?
Christopher Sumpter yup 8 shots! Works well but thinking I need to change my carry load.
SEXY grips !
***** I'm thinking of changing them, really looking for more compact grips like those Secret Service grips!
they look a little slippery... I know VZ has some nice grab to them when you hold them (got em on my Colt).
I just posted a video so you can see the grips
