This is a "GREAT" firearm for CCW, 8RD of .357, very light, and easy concealment. I can not ask for anything better, and it is a Smith&Wesson USA made with one of the best lifetime warranties in the business. Thank you for a Great upload.
+TheOl1911 it would be cool if you did a video on the pug nose where you wear it owb with a t shirt. I'm just curious with that short nose it seems like you wouldn't even have much sticking below the bottom of the t shirt. Looks very concealable
I know what you mean about the Star speedloader's noisiness. But I've been thinking on that, and I believe there is way to carry them without the noise. An elastic carry pouch or a slightly coned leather speeedloader holster would squeeze the ends of the bullets so that their wouldn't be any rattle at all. A speed strip is ok at times, when you have no workable speeedloader option. But a speed strip is just slower than I would want given the choice between the two.
I saw one used in a gun shop the other day and was so excited but then the guy handed it to me and the side that was face down in the showcase was mangled, I mean it looked like someone dragged it with a chain down the road. What a let down, I would have bought it in a minute if in good shape. Thanks buddy, great video! Love that holster!
Excellent Review - I appreciate your committing to EDC with this and taking the time to put this review together. I carry S&W M638 Body Guard for summer time fun but just recently have been considering one of these just to get the extra rounds. I'd probably use the Spear in 38+p because I've trained with it in my Body Guard. Thanks again for your efforts to expand my knowledge of this revolver
The primary advantage of the moon clip is that all the rounds will eject together. You only should need to hit the ejector rod once. No chance of a round getting caught between the star and frame
Low .357 expansion out of that short barrel is what kept me on the fence. The self defense ammo is crucial to know what it does in a barrel that short. But I ultimately caved in and don’t regret it.
M&P compact 3.5" 13rnd mag. Now: the two options; keep you 40 barrel and buy Underwood 135 150 or 155grn. 40sw HPs. 2) Buy a 357sig barrel ( I like KKM) and any number of loadings will work ( 5 petal Speer gold dot work great in short barrels. I also like Corbon 115grn.) ALL of these bullet and barrel combos will give you more energy, higher capacity, lower recoil, report and muzzle flash. If you must buy a Glock, the same ammo and barrel swaps are just as effective. The M&P 2.0 has a better grip angle and a lower recoil impulse, but if you have been shooting Glocks for 20 years, by all means, stick with what you know.
@@Kevin_Ho70 Right?!? Unfortunately I did look on Ebay yesterday out of curiosity...$859?!? It's awesome, but not the risk your marriage over a vinyl box set kind of awesome. 😆
buffalo bore was probably the culprit of the cylinder erosion. they specifically say on the website you should not use certain ammo in those lighter frames and only put them in all steel revolvers. Thats why I prefer and went with the 2.6 inch 627 S&W. 8 shots .357 mag in an all steel frame that can handle the big boy loads and can take a bear if needed :)
Have your competition buddy direct you to better moon clips. Hearthco matches his moon clip to your brass as will TK Custom. Or, you can match your brass (ammo) to your moon clip to get rid of a lot of the wobble. There are leather moon clip carriers designed for concealed carry (del fatti?) available, too
Glad to hear that you're over your cylinder erosion problem. I'm thinking on getting one of these as a backup coat or jacket pocket holster gun to replace my Smith model 49 bodyguard, 5-shot .38spcl. revolver, carrying 125-gr. h/p's. What is the "grain weight" of your Hornady "Critical Defense" .357 bullets? Let us know, please..!
I like the fact that it looks like it was made from a collection of parts from junk guns. In a defensive situation, the assailant might easily see this thing and not even believe it was a real gun, thus giving the owner the upper hand.
I have a hammerless S&W Model 640 in stainless steel. It is nice to have the .357 Magnum capability for self defense but also shoot .38 Special ammo for target practice. The two inch barrel allows for a certain degree of accuracy, but this is a gun for up close work, primarily. Smith and Wesson wheel guns are wonderful guns, almost without a fault. I have nothing against Ruger and Colt, as I own some revolvers by them as well...
I have this gun and love it. If you were to load 38+p as your carry ammo, would you have a preferred brand? Do I have to worry about cylinder erosion with 38+p?
OK, So over the year how is the EROSION factor? This is what I had written about on your first post. I am still thinking about getting this revolver but am still very afraid of the burn off effect. As far as a holster I'm sure there are plenty of them out there by now. Maybe Alian? Of the good old Desanti and so on. Also How are the STAR Speed Loaders? I think there is one other company that makes that type but they are very tall and to carry in a lets say pair of dockers would be uncomfortable. My 5 round loaders were easy to carry in a pair of docker type pants and I would have three in each side. I had a buddy who had a belt made for his speed loaders that held 12 or more I cannot remember but it was for his large frame S&W 357 and he was a competition shooter. Any way I will keep thinking about this revolver as soon as I know it won't blow up in my face after 1,000 rounds. I know you have to use a fast burn ammo, I think you had said that at one point. NOTE: Safariland, HKS, Maxfire, Speedbeez make 8 round speed loaders now. I think over all the 5 star may be the best although a bit shaky. The Maxfire is a slip in round holder that is plastic.
HI. What brand and thickness of moon clips are / were you using? I can't find anything that fits Gold Dot Speer ammo (same ammo like you). Thank you very much!
Good reviews on this Smith. Can you use 110 grain magnum in this or is it the same as the 340 PD(without the printed warning on the gun) no magnums under 120 grains? Can you replace the red ramp with a night sight like the big dots?
Another great Video, and good job going over the reloading options for revolvers. I see a New carry gun coming in 2016. I vote for the 1911, or Glock 10mm!! It would be great to see either one on a year long test and to hear all your thought on it. Merry Christmas my Friend! Beretta Sr & Young Beretta.
+BERETTA9mmUSA thanks my friends! In Jan. I will be switching to a different wheelie for "cold weather carry". 1911... I have some thoughts, LOL - but not anytime soon. Glock 10mm, yes...Merry Christmas my friends!!!!!!
I'm glad you have mention flame cut. I was shooting some 357 mag an flame cut my top side is where your blast shield is..freaking crazy..I told people about flame cutting on a revolver an they look at me all crazy...tell I explain an show them on my cut LOL...
+Urban Cowboy I have never had flame cutting happen at the top strap area where there is a blast shield... I wonder what loadings you were using? Did you send it back?
+TheOl1911 yeah I was a very hot load 125jhp it on S&W 686 snub nose. yeah call Smith and Wesson they said yeah its Natural and it only cut so deep..Lol I didn't like that cut because it was deep..So lol I traded at a gun show..I have a another 686 really pretty..I don't shoot that load out of this gun..Know that I know..an when I look for new revolvers that are use like at the gun show the first thing I do is check it for flame cut lol also on youtube I saw a video on flame cuts on a revolver was a Ruger sp 101 I think.. and he was showing off his Flame cut on his Ruger I thought you too it was deep 2 and Ruger top strap is thick to lol
Thank you for the great videos, very informative and professional. Would you consider the 327 more controllable (less recoil) for consecutive target acquisition then a 340 PD? I appreciate your thoughts, thanks
I think so because of the size (N-Frame) and grip. More to hold onto and the weight is a tad bit more. I recently did a revisit on this wheelie in 2021 where I took it to the range (Resurrection: The Pug Nose 2021). Granted I was only shooting 38spls but it is controllable for sure. 357 might be a different story. But I do not shoot full house mags through this. But I was use to the recoil, etc...at the time so it didn't phase me much. its definitely a 'speciality' wheelie.
I’ve been daily carrying a staccato P with dot and light in an enigma holster. Works great with normal t shirt and jeans but since I lost a bunch of weight the setup no longer works for tucked in church attire. Can’t decide between this revolver and a 2.5in python or colt viper… any insight would be helpful. This revolvers 8 shots looks chunky but on paper it’s only a half inch difference.
I have the same S&W Model 327. Since it has the internal lock on it, I have been hesitant to use it as my daily carry. It looks like you have yours deactivated; so was wondering if you would still use it as a primary carry even with the active internal lock, or simply regulate it to a range gun?
This is an old vid - but I did carry this wheelie for a while and it worked out fine. I also did put a ton of rounds through this revolver (apparently more so than the average owner according to customer service, haha) and never had any issue with the lock. I did not deactivate it - I never used it though. I have a bunch of S&W wheelies that have the lock and sure I prefer not to have one but honestly I personally never had any issues. I would carry it.
You freaked me out when you loaded the cylinder with the speed strip, closed it up and pulled the trigger. Didn't realize you had loaded it with snap cap rounds. Was waiting for a big bang and a hole in that nice table.
gutbucket: He's loaded with "snap caps". Dummy rounds. No chance of a "bang"..!! Look at the "ammo" carefully..! I agree he should've mentioned that fact, & he didn't.
Sightings? What sightings do you need for a snub 357? It's the last gun you'll use, with the target probably 10m away...after that, you go for your knife!
love your vids, keep them coming. Of all your carrying revolvers, which is your favorite? 327 pc or 386 night guard. I found a 325 night guard in .45 acp locally but not sure of the recoil. rare gun though. I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks
Just a thought: I think it could be extremely dangerous to have snap caps and live ammo in the same video. If you have just live ammo, you're ok, and if you have just snap caps, you're ok. But with both you could easily confuse or forget which is which during filming. Just an observation.
i was looking to buy a new ccw gun and was wanting a revoler but im stuck between the smith and wesson bodyguard 38 special with the laser and the ruger lcrx 38 special and was wanting somebodies opinion who knows revolvers like yourself thanks again for your help
I’m going to bob the hammer on my 327pc. I also never use it single action and if you want to with a bobbed hammer just squeeze the trigger a little to get it started.
I had the Gemini version of the 327 PC and although it’s a great gun it’s not something I enjoyed carrying. Too big for the lack of capacity compared to other modern semi autos or even the Kimber K6S with a much smaller frame and 2less rounds.
Seems like the Gold Dot is out of stock everywhere. Have any other recommendations? Was checking the Hornady Critical Duty .357 Mag 135 Grain, Flex lock? Thoughts?
+Will Jones (Custom Web Sight) Those rounds are tough to find for some reason. That's why when I see them in stock I buy a case. Midway USA always use to have them in stock? Critical Duty would be mainly for a 4"+ barrel...so I'd skip those for a snubbie. I'd rather use Critical Defense.
This is the best and greatest revolver ever it’s 8 shots guaranteed to save your life in an emergency get to Nagels fire arms in sanantonio or ship it to you to your FFL dealer a must get and have gun
Regarding accuracy with a snubbie, on a recent trip to the range, I set the target at 15 yards instead of my usual 7. Of the 15 rounds fired,13 hit in the kill zone. Two narrowly missed the target. My edc is the Smith and Wesson 442 & 2 speed strips. I've carried it every day since June, 2014, and practice as often as possible.
If someone asked me "what is that noise" and it was my speedloaders? I'd say "why it's my coin-purse good sir, do you not barter with gold and silver coin as well?".
Holy fuck dude... I didn't realize those were snap rounds when you loaded them with the speed strip and I nearly had a heart attack when you fired! LOL
+Conrad Kelly 327 hands down as its a great carry gun but...its not the best in the sense it has such a short barrel and can only handle certain 357 mags... but I really like the 327.
I can’t think of a worse carry revolver the only thing going for it is the 8 shot cylinder the 2” barrel is not the best for 357 as it dismisses the velocity of the 357 and the N frame makes difficult to conceal IWB I would much rather have a model 66 or even a J frame or a Ruger sp 101 and the 1200 dollar price tag is ridiculous
“Speed strip” has to be the ultimate oxymoron in CCW terminology. Seriously, if you’re still in danger after 8 rounds you’ve ventured to a place you never should have gone....
I see what your saying... 98.9% of the time your right, but sometimes when things go wrong, they go very wrong. I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised with what can go on out there...
That is such a stupid line. The point of cc is that you've somehow ended up in a shitty situation and regardless of how you got there you need to get out alive. And giving yourself idiotic artificial limitations because you think your to cool to carry extra ammo is a great way to end up dead, defeating the whole point of carrying in the first place.
This is a "GREAT" firearm for CCW, 8RD of .357, very light, and easy concealment. I can not ask for anything better, and it is a Smith&Wesson USA made with one of the best lifetime warranties in the business. Thank you for a Great upload.

+Matthew Robinson thanks for sharing and nice set up!
***** Thanks
Thanks for the review !!
Excellent review.
Nice gun ..pocket size ..👍
When you say, you've experienced Cylinder erosion, how often do you clean your Revolver?
It was because of the ammo
If someone asked me "what is that noise" and it was my speedloaders? I'd say "why it's my coin-purse good sir, do you not barter with gold and silver coin as well?".
I would like one with a 3" barrel.
So do you still have/use/carry it???
Great video. Thx!!!
How do you clean the barrel? Anything special regarding cleaning products.
+gstea1 barrel cleaning - nah no special products.
What grips are these?
If the cant was 15* forward would it print less?
I love it
Holy fuck dude... I didn't realize those were snap rounds when you loaded them with the speed strip and I nearly had a heart attack when you fired! LOL
Love It
Insightful video!
+getparadox thanks!!!!
I just watched your video (08/21/18) and I would love to get a chance to shot it at my local gun range. I carry P226 10 rounds
Hey man what do you think of the 327 vs your 686 for edc
+Conrad Kelly 327 hands down as its a great carry gun but...its not the best in the sense it has such a short barrel and can only handle certain 357 mags... but I really like the 327.
Winchester PDX1 .38+P mushrooms great and zero kick.
Está súper chingona ésa pistola
S&W 327 PERFORMANCE CENTER what are the dots on the frame
I wondered that too. I have a S&W 325 PC that also has them. I don't see they have a function, only decorative I believe.
Como puedo hacer para comprar esta arma, esta muy bonita...vivo en mexico, saludos.
I'd want a minimum of 3" barrel for .357, that's just me!
Instead of more ammo have you considered a NY reload? J frame in weak side pocket?
+gstea1 at times yes but...depends. As Clint Smith says, "One is None...Two is One".
That revolver is beautiful.
I need a OWB holster for this gun that doesn’t take 2-4 weeks to be made ugh....
Why? Fkn millennials
Have you shot the "Rhino". If so, I does it compare to the S&W 327?
+Defending Fathers I have never shot that Rhino. I personally do not know anyone that has one.
Qual é o valor dessa arma
Hi Carrie I'd rather have a 357
Magnum revolver
Can you please list the grips and link to buy?
I don't think the guy is in biz anymore.... Kim Ahrends...
Exactly!! Lmao
A lot speedier compared with single loading though as you know. Also 5 star makes 8 shot speed loaders for these. They’re great.
