I just wanted to say thank you, you have no idea how you help the fixer upper people in America with your videos. The cheater boards alone are worth everything to me. I wish you much success in your future videos and in your life. May God Bless you, your family, friends and all who are touched by your positive dedication to free education. I can only imagine the hours you must put in just making the videos. I really enjoyed your $100K speech more young people need to hear that hard work and how you present yourself matters to your success. God Bless
Thanks a lot, Joe! All your videos are honest and forthright. You tell it like it is and I'm really glad you have been blessed with the knowledge and expertise to help those of us, like me, who are not professional installers and are just trying to save some dough. I watched several of your videos and there is one common theme. You tell it like it is. Stay healthy and God Bless, my friend. He put you on this earth to help others and you are doing His work.
Hey Joe, I watched quite a few of your excellent videos but unfortunately missed this one! I bought what I thought was a decent quality vinyl plank from Floor and Decor here in TX. The "Highland Park" plank cost $2.69 / sq.ft. I laid the Quiet Walk and the plank went down on the cement floor of an enclosed unheated/uncooled patio (rarely used). I am pleased with the finished project and the room looks great. But since I watched this video I realized the issues I had during installation may have been a combination of my inexperience and the product and a dose of impatience and frustration. But you'll be glad to hear I am in the process of installing vinyl in our walk-in closet (again on concrete). And I was lucky to hit a Costco sale on a quality product! So again - THANK YOU!
Great video, just installed the Pro Core LVP from Lowes, and I can tell you that the Pro Core LVP from Lowes is good stuff folks. Very strong locking system, but fairly forgiving for areas that aren't perfectly level. Just did my living room with no issues. We have a kid and 3 dogs, so you can imagine the abuse it takes lol. It has held up well so far. It's been installed for roughly a month, with no issues, and cleans up really easy with light soap/water. Would highly recommend to others. Price per SQ ft is roughly 2.50 at the time of this post
Joe, God Bless you, your family, and your business. You're helping so many of us and are very encouraging. I especially appreciate your prayer at the end.
Glad to hear your recommendation on the Mannington Adura Max as that is the flooring I am having installed in a few weeks. Good to know the company I'm working with didn't give bad advice
I'm halfway through installing karndean looselay. I'm very happy with the quality, and the ease of installation. No click lock, just butt up the factory edge to each other. No issues. Just made it easier to do the whole house with no transitions. Thanks heaps Joel. Your videos were my favourite. Really helped get me started, especially the video about starting in the hallway.
The kush! LMAO Loves it. Got a flooring job coming up this weekend so I figured id learn a few tricks and boy am I glad I found these videos. Im a red seal carpenter with 13 years experience and man did I learn a lot from your videos. Keep doing what your doing and look after your back and knees brother
Make sure to waterproof the concrete. Dont find out the hard way when it curls and they dont cover you. 9 out of 10 lvts are waterproof but only from the top
SPOT ON....I had requested 8 samples of one I really liked and the ends broke off just by laying it together. Joe is right..pay attention. Went back and told the store and thats when they showed me what you are saying. Do not just go by the look....the quality and thickness makes a big difference. My neighbor install cheap LVP and now after 1 year is having issues. DO IT RIGHT...DO YOUR RESEARCH...ASK FOR SAMPLES.
HE'S RIGHT AGAIN! Smartcore Lexington Oak👍 I put down over 600 sq ft. of this in my sons house so beautiful and quiet! Also made a fixture to make a bull nose for stairs and did 13 steaps and risers and locked togather and glued then clear non slip adheasive because vinyl is slippery on steaps!😉They like it better than the orginal Oak floors! 👌 Wish I could attach pictures of stairs!
Had Malabu "Lincoln Park 9x60" installed by Home depot, the manufacturer says warranty is void if an underlayment is used - Home Depot put a 6mil moisture barrier under - Concrete slab. I made the mistake of not getting a sample, the color online was totally different than the online floor visualizer, but it is OK. Seems like a good product.
I’m in Australia so I talk in square metres , millimetres & centimetres where as Americans talk in square feet & inches.I am in the process of laying 200 square metres in my house right now & watched & studied a lot of RUclips videos & got a lot of info into my head.I always came back to your videos because all your tips & knowledge is really helping me.My boards are SPC hybrid 8 1/2 millimetres thick with underlayment attached & are top quality. Here they cost $44 per square metre & to lay them they want nearly $5000.You have saved me heaps of money Joel because I can do this standing on my head so thank you heaps.✌️✌️✌️🇦🇺
Quiet walk... Used to be my favorite. A few days ago, installing laminate in house, i found "Quiet walk" has changed the thickness from 3mm to 1mm... Not adequate. Instead i used the "Pergo" mylar coated 3mm foam pad. GREAT STUFF but pricey. I had no choice. All other pads tooooo thin. Almost all laminate I've installed, the female edge breaks easily. Yes, trickier to install, but cheaper. Tho it breaks easy, once put together, I've had secure joints... BUT i level & smooth floors where needed. In addition to tapping block, i use 6-8" scrap piece that i "lock in" & tap with hammer to aid install... Prevents damaging female edge., while still getting "assist". REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS !!!
@@sothatshowyoudothat That's odd,.. Yes, i see they still make the 1/8". What menards had in stock was blue, but very thin. Glad they still make the 1/8", but it'll be a while before I'm putting down more laminate. Sure appreciate your help. Good luck with your channel & I'm looking forward to watch the rest of them.
God bless - well done. Question: Can I lay plank flooring over existing vinyl floor in old condo about to close on, or does the old floor (which is in good condition) have to be ripped out?
Just purchased 1400 sqft of Provenza MaxCore LVP. I'm part way into the install myself and getting very anxious the further I go. Im overlaying over tile and there might be a few dips (low spots) that are causing some popping. Thinking I may need some feathering compound under it? Or would underlayment work better to even things out?
You ever use the brand 'Floor Basics' I got it from Ollies, It has the padding on the back, I'm laying it on a floor in an old house that's shaped like a football field, I'm having trouble snapping it together, should I screw it down or what?
Although the strength of the long and short joints are critical, they’re not exactly what makes a good locking system. There multiple locking systems, I4F, 5G, Unilin, to name a few, and how well these are milled is also critical. But, for sure if you can break a long joint with your fingers that’s a good place to start😉
I'm a Jack of trades contractor, with many 1k's sf flooring installed. From first gen fibered laminate to current mid+ vinyl, most locks have been fragile junk! The First gen Shaw solid vinyl was rubbery flexible and memorably one of the most durable locks, although the surface scratched easily. As you demonstrated, the foam core most manufacturers are producing < Shaw - < some "Premiums" is weak at best. Is it really that difficult to produce a semi-rigid base layer for a durable lock? Or corporate shortcuts of profit agendas...? Either way, surface quality and durability of most, have improved dramatically! I suppose the key of warranty liability has been shifted towards the quality of our installations.
14.000 ft i put in clearwater. Pro core. Brand in comm. If its flat an not banged to death like old school lam or true hard wood its not bad guys beat the short lip off. Thx
Hi so I have been watching your videos about flooring forever I'm about ready to do my basement floor so I have a vinyl plank tile that has a backing on it My basement floor is all over the place My first question is self-leveling concrete a must? My second question is I have a finished bathroom in the basement and it has vinyl plank flooring in it How do I match up the new floor with the bathroom floor keeping everything square where do I start I can send you a sketch of the layout of how my basement is if you like I want to do this myself but I need all the help I can get lol
You only need to fill the dips, not the entire floor. Have you seen my membership site - www.sothatshowyoudothat.com/laminate-university-registration/ I can help you in there.
I don’t know much about the vinyl, but Floor & Decor Aquagaurd Laminate, the groves are fine but the short edges lock with a drop lock system, so basically the next piece sits on top of the laid piece and locks in. The stupid floor keeps popping out at these joints everywhere you add any weight, sofa, dining room table, when I rolled the fridge in. I even used their ultra premium underlay net that’s almost $1/ sqft and it still has these issues. Yes, the subfloor is level, yes all instructions were followed, I even hired a installer to help me install the initial 10 rows to make sure I’m doing it right. Regardless, I have issues with it, and despite the floor looking amazing, I regret the $3.49 laminate, plus $0.80/ underlay, $4.30 a square flooring system and it’s junk out of the box-this is why their website has no reviews on anything and they constantly try and filter their Yelp and Google reviews.
Hi Joe, Been following your guide for a few weeks, very helpful love the cheater board. Have you tested smart core planking? Not talking pro or ultra. Thank you
Hey Joe I like watching your videos you get right to the core. I have a question, what do I do if one of my planks are damaged in the middle of the floor, do I need to remove everything from one end and work my way back to it, or is there a way to remove that plank without damage to the others. Thanks
Thanks for all the informative videos on vinyl flooring - they have really armed me with good information as I am about to “take the plunge”. I was wondering if you were familiar with Floor and Decor’s Optimax Eco resistant flooring? Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Hey Joe is Pro core vinyl planks from lowes any good they are 2.50 a sf and I'm thinking on getting them for my living room be real nice if you replied sir.thanks
i just bought a box of paradigm waterproof vinyl plank to lay out and test, should be here next week. Do you know if its a good brand? If not i'll probably just order the adura max that you recommended in a other vid.
I bought Shaw Floors' 6.5mm LVP here in Canada, and I found that one year after the installation the click joints at the short side of the planks started to fail. Now I am looking to glue to ends together just to prevent them from gapping.
Do you think the glue will hold the LVPs together when the lock is broken? The edge is not completely gone, just the notches are. It used to be like this: Plank___| |^^^Plank. But now that the notches are broken it's like this: Plank___ ^^^Plank. So while the horizontal part of the lock is touching there is just nothing preventing them coming apart.
I have the same issue on the short edges with Shaw. I have a coworker with the same problem with Shaw. Never again. I go into Shaw Floorings office from time to time on my job. THEY are having the same issues in their office with their own flooring LOL.

That mannington for the money they charge is garbage. I do work for a custom kitchen place and they stopped using that because the locking system is great but it’s a soft vinyl so when you roll a refrigerator or anything heavy over that product you see the wheel marks and that is a fact.
