Dude! That's the first time, I had someone pray for me after a diy video. Continue to shine your light before men....Your floor installation channel is one of the best out there if not the top in my humble opinion. Thanks and...Amen!
Ok floor and decor optimax install directions say to lay down black 6mil poly if vinyl planks are to be installed below grade along with 1mm pad. Old laminate floor never had issues. What is your opinion. Thankyou for everything!
I'm praying for you, too, Joe. Psalm 90:17 "Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!"
Your videos are very informative-I have learned a great deal from you! Thank you for posting such valuable information. The prayer you did at the end was great to see and hear. God Bless you !!! So good to see a God loving person pray for those who are DIY's . Thank You
Joe, your channel is by far the best I have viewed on flooring. Also, and possibly even more important, when you humbly but boldly profess faith and pray for us, that is powerful. You are being a light in this world, a world that needs men like you showing others the way…you are a blessing in many ways to many people. You inspire me brother. Thank you!
Joe I'm just back years later to say thanks yet again for your videos. I laid laminate in most of my house with your videos and tips. You helped me get pro quality results DIY and any shortcomings in minor areas were from before I found your tip for that specific issue. Wishing you nothing but the best in 2024.
Thank you for the prayers. The video went beyond learning and gave me the peace i needed. Thank you so much for including God in this. Thanks for the prayer of blessings. We needed it
Another great video Joe, I saved it for when I'm ready to replace my flooring. Always look forward to the prayer at the end. I hope you and your family have a blessed holiday!
I installed a ton of angle to angle flooring and I think it's much better than the tap and lock. I find the best way to install it is to connect the ends together first and connect them together as a very long plank. I used the off cuts from my first row to lock the joints together (I think I got that idea from your videos). I did a 12 x 14 room by myself with no problems. Edit: This was the first room I did this way, but I had done several locking the individual planks together the way the instructions said and it was a royal pain.
In Jesus name, yes!! Your a blessing indeed in more ways than you know!! Thanks again too for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I have a small kitchen jon in Jan. My kitchen. Going to look for the pad video now. Thanks Joe
So, so helpful!! Just getting m supplies together and I ordered the wrong underlayment… thought thicker was better!! Thanks for steering me away from a big mistake ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Joe, great video! Thank you for the video and, more importantly, for the prayer. That really got to me, man. I don't know why, but it made my eyes start to leak. I've been going through a lot for a long time, and I keep wanting to give up and give in. But through the grace of God, I keep trudging along. Thank you, brother.
Love that you like QuietWalk. It was the first pad I ever used back when I did my first house in the 90's. The reason was exactly what you said. I liked the density and sound deadening quality and the price.
Useful information about flooring. This is the 2nd video of yours I've watched. I watch these videos to learn from the experience and/or expertise of others. You have compared several underlayments and have identified their particular strengths and weaknesses. I'm after that knowledge, that evidence of pros-cons. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. About the praying - I understand that you believe you are doing us a kindness, and for that I thank you. If you could provide some performance statistics, you know, pros and cons, for the deity you invoke in your prayers, I'd be better able to evaluate it. Thanks again for the info.
Great video, loved all your honest insight!! Getting ready to do our floor and we have debated pad or pad, you helped decide our plan. Thanks and love your prayer at the end! God bless.
Thanks for the great information. I have a large living room that used to be a garage. We are going to remove the carpet and put down vinyl planks. So I will be using a pad because of being over concrete. God bless you and thanks again.
Thanks for all your videos. I put flooring in my first room with your techniques, 15'x15' octagon room. The cheater board is a life saver. I did not put pad down on the concreate subfloor. Leveling the floor is something i need more help on. I have 1,200sqft left to go ;) I fear i'm going to have to do more leveling. lets pray i don't. this next area needs to be continuous. so wish me lots of luck.
Thanks Joe for the very enlightening video. I’m about to install LVP on basement floor. Was trying to figure out whether to use moisture barrier or pad.
I was gonna subscribe but when you hit us with the prayer I was like "This dude is LEGIT !" Great video for a layman like myself. I forgot to say I SUBSCRIBED
Thank you for this! QUESTION: If I have to leave the 1972 vinyl sheet in place because of asbestos, can I use levelling cement on top of the old vinyl sheet (uneven plywood subfloor), then put down the Quiet Walk LV, then the new rigid core SPC vinyl plank with attached foam pad flooring on top? I am concerned the vinyl will bubble up with suction (as it dries) under the levelling cement and destroy the vinyl seal that encapsulates the asbestos backing, and create a crumbly concrete mess under the underlayment. I am also concerned the Quiet Walk LV underlayment will be too slippery on top of the smooth vinyl and will bunch up under the planks. What are your thoughts for putting rigid core SPC flooring on top of old uneven vinyl flooring that can't come out?
So my house is in Alaska and I am interested in LVP, on an concrete slab, I also wonder about in floor heating radiant heating spots, like bath rooms, in front room, in front of couch and kitchen, How would this work? I have rolled vinyl currently, 15 years old. can it be laid over top? Sorry for so many questions, but big investment. Bless you for sharing your gifts!
Very informative thanks. Question: I see kind of a brownish oily liquid seeping into my bedroom wooden subfloor. I recently removed a laminate flooring which had an Underlayment and saw wet spot and so left the space open for it to dry out. But now it's getting worse and I have started seeing same oily liquid in other bedroom subfloor as well. Your guidance would be much appreciated on how to deal with this.
Question, I stripped carpet out of the master bedroom of our property we purchased and the padding was turning to dust. My question would be would you recommend stripping the glue off, or putting an extra pad down. It's a concert floor and I am struggling with getting the glue scrapped up. In some areas it's thin like a piece of paper but other areas seem to be thicker. I am wondering if you would strip the glue and put waterproof flooring down, or would you just strip the glue and paint the concrete floor. Also the master bathroom had the same carpeting do I need to strip the glue off the plywood before installing either linoleum or or waterproof flooring? Thank You for these videos they're very helpful.
Question: Loved the video and the prayer at the end, my rigid core nucore floor does not recommend anything over 1mm underlayment, would this quietwalk lv still work since it is 1.4mm or will it cause my floor to buckle or separate over time
I love quiet walk LV, BUT, my nucore drop and and lock felt too soft, joints felx too much for my liking, i removed half my living room to remove the qw, and put down poly 6mil. Feels more solid, no joint flex. There were 6 planks with broken butt joints that I found. Too much felx, these were all under furniture legs too. Its to bad I really wanted to use the q walk lv since it has moisture wick. Possibly differnt brand of plank wouldnt have this issue.
Great info, thanks. Question, can I use tar paper under my plank that has a pad on it over my concrete slab floor as a moister barrier? Also, in another of your videos you specifically say no pad under LVP that has a pad already on it and in this one you mention the quiet walk as a good option. Is it just personal taste then? thanks again for your videos!
What about if installing on second floor bathroom. Would you use a plastic vapor barrier? Also would recommend using extra padding or just the padding attached to the vinyl plank? Last questions if you don't mind, what if your floor have lots of staples due to removing vinyl rug?
My bedroom subfloor is a bit tacky, so I need an underlayment for my padded interlocking vinyl planks. Any reason I can't use rosin paper for that purpose? All I need is a friction barrier, moisture and sound are not an issue. Thanks, really enjoy your channel.
I’m putting vinyl plank down for a friend. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I’m pretty comfortable doing the install. This is going over concrete. Do I need a vapor barrier down first on the concrete. This plank has a sound mitigating underlayment. What do you suggest? God Bless!!
I am installing click vinyl with 4,2 mm thickness without integrated underlayment on OSB. It is a bathroom with a bath, should i put any foil underneath vinyl? I was thinking vapor permeable foil that you use on roofs to protect OSB just in case or maybe nothing as manufacturer suggests (they also told me to glue it down in bathroom...).
Question - a lot of LVP floors that I walk on sound like “plastic” if you know what I mean. They don’t sound solid like wood. If I do angle lock LVP on a concrete (no moisture issues) would that black pad eliminate or reduce that type of sound. THANKS!!
Joe, do have any experience installing LVP on DMX 1-step? We are installing LVP on our basement floor. Our house was built in the 50s , so we don’t have any vapour-moisture barrier nor do we have the ceiling height to have a proper subfloor. I am concerned that the 1-step product will cause joint issues. We are looking at purchasing Lifeproof 22mil 6.5 mm thick LVP. Any suggestions or tips?
Curious on whether you would use a pad when installing over an existing tile and vinyl plank floor? I'll be using a cork-backed core luxury vinyl plank from Floor and Decor - what I've read is you need that stiff cork back to go over tile so grout lines don't bleed through - but do I also need some sort of pad? Seems like overkill, but I'll like some opinions. Thanks!
Can this Quiet Walk be used on stairs before laying the LVP? Wish I had learned about this sooner as we put LVP in upstairs bathrooms and if someone drop a hairbrush is sounds like it's coming through the ceiling down below. We were considering putting LVP through the WHOLE house but because of the noise....NO! We will likely replace the carpet.
Been watching your videos, thank you. I am looking for a tile looking plank in the shade of gray. I was told that I should install something that is tongue and groove like all 4 sides like coretec. Is there any other company out there that its this way without braking the bank? Coretec stone I was quoted 6.80 sq ft. Is this reasonable and is it worth it?
I installed LVP in a portable building. There is padding on the backside of the plank, and did not put a moisture barrier underneath. I just hope I don’t get a callback. 😳🤞🤞🤞
Sir I have a question im installing LVP flooring on the first floor of my house It’s a new house new build just under a month old it has cheap vinyl flooring over the plywood since it has a basement. Can I install the LVP right over the vinyl? It was too expensive for the developer to install LVP the reason why I am doing it my self. There are only minimal areas where the vinyl bubbled. Thank you!
I pulled up my floor and noticed where the dishwasher was there is a lot of moisture. Can I use a moisture barrier just under the tucked away dishwasher area to protect the floor?
Thanks for the insight.. I never understood the point of the moisture barrier under the floors if it's going on top of concrete and that's going to sweat. Isn't that going to create some form of mold buildup over time, how is that any better than a padded back piece just sitting on the slab? I like the idea of the fiber backed barrier as that makes much more sense to me. However, since this will have rolling chair on it, I do worry the extra cushion will cause eventual breakage in the drop and lock system. Any additional thoughts here would be much appreciated.
I put quiet walk under my luxury vinyl i dident use quite walk luxury vinyl and I accidentally put the blue vapor barrier facing down in the second floor of my house. Do you think I should be okay?
Will the pad not hold the water against the sub floor and create the perfect environment for mold and wood rot? I had that problem ,water, underneath my vinyl plank w/o a pad. I had no idea the water or the mold damage was there for a long time. Disaster.
The manufacturers say just don’t tape the seams when on wood if you do use pad. If you have that much moisture when not taping seams that’s another problem
Hi Joe, I’m preparing to install laminate planks to replace 3/4” hardwood on the second floor that’s outdated. Do you think I should rip out the HW first? The HW is in every room, hallway and stair case down to first. We recently installed tiles in the upstairs bathroom at level with the old HW (maybe there’s a 1/8”-1/16” higher difference). If I rip out the HW I would need to install another subfloor. So should I leave the HW and install on top? If so they’ll be a lip to the bathroom. The laminate is 12 mm (not quite 1/2”). It’s my dilemma right now lol. Also the HW cracks a lot. So I’ll need to nail it in everywhere like you did to prep it. Do you have a video where you install laminate in a staircase? FYI I’ve never did that before. Like your videos. Thanks Joe
Sorry Joe, I’m still confused 😂 yes I am a women, old too hahaha. I planning on laying LVP in my second floor bedrooms, all with wood subfloor, I’ll be using a Home Depot Brand, (don’t laugh) LVP with waterproof backing. The price is reasonable, it looks decent, and hopefully it’ll hold up to my dogs and cats shenanigans. Obviously I’m not picky. I just want something that is going to work and look better than the gross carpet currently in place. I live in the upper California desert so it’s predominantly dry here. Now, with all that being said. Do I still need a barrier of any type to be laid down?
i cant find QuietLock 1.4 mill for my basement install. Because of the radon thing in CO we were going to SEAL the floor first then LVP. Is it not recommended to use a pad with rubber sealing ?
I have jus finished 3 bedrooms because of your videos. I may have made a huge mistake though. I put down Mohawk rigid vinyl plank on a concrete slab without adding a vapor barrier. I have been stressing this week wondering if I need to redo it with a vapor barrier. House is a single floor with no basement and is 10 years old. Do you think I’m ok to leave it as is?
If the product had a pad on the back side , you are fine. Each manufacturer has a phone number you can call for technical support and assistance. This would be on the directions that came in each package. If you tossed them out, you can go their website. They will answer all your questions! They are very friendly and patient . I know of no product that allows a pad under product that comes with a pad! You would be putting a vapor barrier on top of a vapor barrier and that's a no,no! Good day!
@@stevehamman4465 yea it had a pad under it, and the only thing it says on the instructions about a pad was do not use foam underlayment. Thanks for the help
@@Boogiiie , there are sound barrier pads also. But these can allow to much movement of the flooring material, up and down when walking on it. The extra movement can break the tongue off the plank and allow for separation! Your on a slab , and have a pad on your product, so you are fine! Mohawk? Is a good product!! Have a nice life!!
I am about to install Flooret LVP over the slab in the basement. I know in that video you said the manufacturer recommends vapor barrier but not a pad, what exactly does that mean? Also I really dislike the thought of trapping moisture under the flooring. Thank you for all of your videos I am hoping they will pay off as I go to do this install.
Hi, I am in same situation what did you go with? I bought quietwalk LV but my joints are flexing too much with cork backing, thinking about just usinf 6mil plastic, my thought is concrete is porous, itnshould absorb mositure back in if it sweats
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat thanks fornfast response! I currently bought quiet walk lv but nucore will not warranty it since its 1.4mm vs 1mm they recommend. My joints also feel pop noise when pressed hard maybe too much flex , my subfloornis not perfect butni didnuse henery feather to help. Being above ground slab in Phoenix i am not too worried about water, but being in a basement below grade I would think hard about quiet walk LV due to moisture wick
I personally don't recommend to add underlayment to spc thay already has pad. It would make it more weak on the joints and with the everyday use the joints will start cracking
I tore out a whole kitchen that had extra pad and it wasn’t thick at all and it wasn’t a drop and lock the whole kitchen broke at the joints but in the family room where they didn’t use a pad nothing happened
Im on a second floor condo and I need soundproofing. I would be laying it on concrete. I have no idea where to start product wise. Can you recommend what products and brands I should purchase?
@griffin3386 I haven't started. It's going to be my summer project as I'm a teacher. I'm also trying to save up some money before then. I can't afford to hire someone, so I'm going to give it a go myself. I'll let you know when I figure it out, though!
1:17 FYI, 3M Box Lock Packing Tape is 100% the BEST clear packing tape you can buy. It sticks to anything, especially boxes and similar cardboard type products. It also sticks well on plastic totes, plastic drop cloths/drapes whatever ya call it in area) but remember this…..if mess up when taping plastic (say window for painting) w/ this tape; NOT GONNA PEEL OFF & allow to start over like others, give up, cut out mistake and continue, as it’s THAT GOOD. So, if using clear packing tape that’s my recommendation. Also think Ramboard seam tape is best in class for this situation and works good on “cardboard type materials and plastic masking products only, imo”. The last tape I’d go with, Tuck Tape. Yep, stuff used for vap/air barrier install for siding and insulation, as well as, tinting windows as won’t hurt vinyl/leather interior and sticks well to plastic masking, etc…. Personally, duct tape (not the silver foil duct tape) but duck tape, isn’t that great and most of time peels off, especially if gets wet, imo. So, I’d go with the other 3 options first before I’d use duck tape. But hey , this my opinion and preference, and you have yours….so as always, do what works for you, but don’t be hesitant to try other methods Cheers✌🏻
Joe, I was told by a sales person at floor and decor, that I can lay nu core performance over existing linoleum floor. Also, that I could apply the floor, right to my bare plywood floor. Are both of these statements true?
With no poly . Sorry

Thanks for the prayer! Subbed because of it!
I used 1/4 inch mass loaded vinyl under my mannington rigid, I have had zero issues thus far
thank you and God bless you I have learned a lot from you
I unfortunately used pad under my Lvp that had padding. It has caused my planks to start separating due to too much flexing of the planks….
Solid is better. We used 1/4 OSB over the subfloor.
That sucks, sorry to hear that
Did you use an angle to angle or drop lock?
Was wondering about this!
Thanks Joe! What do you think about a roll on moisture barrier like Bona R540 for on grade or below grade concrete slabs before a pad is used?
Thanks
Do you have any videos to help me level our floors before laying down planks? Our wood subflood is crazy uneven and has major deflection
I think if I ever redid my Flooret LVP, I'd put a thin pad underneath, for sound and minor differences in the subflooring.
great vid man !!
Do recommend using a pad in a second floor bathroom installation? Do you have a bathroom vinyl plank installation video?
@@paulkrueger4201 second that. Bathroom vinyl!! What to look for, how to handle the water?

We were considering putting LVP through the WHOLE house but because of the noise....NO! We will likely replace the carpet.
Been watching your videos, thank you. I am looking for a tile looking plank in the shade of gray. I was told that I should install something that is tongue and groove like all 4 sides like coretec. Is there any other company out there that its this way without braking the bank? Coretec stone I was quoted 6.80 sq ft. Is this reasonable and is it worth it?
Hey Joe, have u ever heard of Firmfit the intown collection? How is it? Thanks!
I installed LVP in a portable building. There is padding on the backside of the plank, and did not put a moisture barrier underneath. I just hope I don’t get a callback. 😳🤞🤞🤞
Would you use a pad for Flooret LVP? It’s on a plywood subfloor.
Interested to know as wel
A contractor told me on my send floor condo they were going to paint red guard on the sheathing. Won’t this trap water from enway & kitchen?
Quietwalk lv is thin and so dense that it will not be an issue.
@@sothatshowyoudothat ty for reply. I'll keep an eye out for this
Joe - I’m between Flooret Modin LVP and Coretech Plus Premium that has the green pad attached. Any thoughts on which way to go?
@9:56, you're lifting on opposite sides of the lock. How could you pull the planks apart when there is a lip under the side you're lifting?
What do you think about putting a 1200 pound pool table pn top of it
I put quiet walk under my luxury vinyl i dident use quite walk luxury vinyl and I accidentally put the blue vapor barrier facing down in the second floor of my house. Do you think I should be okay?
Will the pad not hold the water against the sub floor and create the perfect environment for mold and wood rot? I had that problem ,water, underneath my vinyl plank w/o a pad. I had no idea the water or the mold damage was there for a long time. Disaster.
Moisture will also make wide Lvp have cupping issues the ones I saw were 8 inches wide I believe
The manufacturers say just don’t tape the seams when on wood if you do use pad. If you have that much moisture when not taping seams that’s another problem
Joe I have old tile that I want to cover do I want a pad?
Thanks Joe
Don't rip it up. Lips are fine unless there's wheelchairs
Nice job god bless
what's the point plank movement? I thought it is best to have no movement above the underlay
No
God Bless you Joe!! thank you 🙏🏻 @@sothatshowyoudothat
i cant find QuietLock 1.4 mill for my basement install. Because of the radon thing in CO we were going to SEAL the floor first then LVP. Is it not recommended to use a pad with rubber sealing ?
It's called QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl 1.4 mm, Home Depot carries it.
I would use quietwalk lv
If over concrete, then YES you need a vapor barrier underlay like he shows in the video
Im on a second floor condo and I need soundproofing. I would be laying it on concrete. I have no idea where to start product wise. Can you recommend what products and brands I should purchase?
Any updates on what you used in second floor condo??
You can use Quiet board
@griffin3386 I haven't started. It's going to be my summer project as I'm a teacher. I'm also trying to save up some money before then. I can't afford to hire someone, so I'm going to give it a go myself. I'll let you know when I figure it out, though!
@@sothatshowyoudothat Thank you for your response! I'll look into that!
You got this
1:17 FYI, 3M Box Lock Packing Tape is 100% the BEST clear packing tape you can buy.
But hey , this my opinion and preference, and you have yours….so as always, do what works for you, but don’t be hesitant to try other methods
Cheers✌🏻
Joe, I was told by a sales person at floor and decor, that I can lay nu core performance over existing linoleum floor. Also, that I could apply the floor, right to my bare plywood floor. Are both of these statements true?
Yes
I think you were lifting the plank the wrong way though.
Yea never will get wet. Mold will just build up under all of that
Ахуенно 💪👍
