  • @deaks25
    @deaks25 Год назад +204

    I remember Flambass being asked how to improve by a viewer and his response was to learn to position; be in the right place at the time. He said something to the effect of being able to shoot is useful, but paying attention to the mini map and where ships are and then putting your ship in the right place to be where you're needed will win more games than being the best shot in the game, because it's no good being the best shot in the game if you yolo in and get blapped inside of 2 minutes.
    This game is an Average Joes' demonstration of that; not the best shot, but was trying to be in good positions, firing at the right ship (including DDs) and later, not charging out after the Iwami. Sure it's not Unicum game, but a game to be pleased with. Well worth showing.
    And yes, that Smaland was absolutely the MVP.

    • @Moltenbramley
      @Moltenbramley Год назад +12

      I'm sorry but there is no way you can say his positioning was good. And neither should he be expected to, he is a bad player (not even average). I don't mean to have a go at him because we fully acknowledge this. But he isn't utilising is health pool to the benefit of his team by just sitting back with a spotter plane.

    • @Moltenbramley
      @Moltenbramley Год назад +2

      Another comment sums it perfectly, copy and paste "The Iowa makes a good corridor gun platform but he played it way too safe and didn’t inch up with the team. Battleships exert pressure on the enemy team by existing and as your team moves up so should you to keep the enemy from doubling back on your over extended teammates. That’s what happened when the team went for B and he wasn’t there to keep them from thinking otherwise. You don’t have to go melee mode just scootch up a little and keep em scared of the big guns. Getting used to the weird guns on the Iowa isn’t easy and I don’t think he even had mods on the turrets as those things were glacial to turn. So yeah he played alright if he was used to the guns, positioning, and practice with the Iowa is where he needs work. Everyone is scared of everything in a wows match, you’d be surprised how much more often you’ll win if you get a little more aggressive. Trade some paint for territory then make them earn every inch they try to take back. You have ~4 heals a game try to use them all."

    • @yashma4187
      @yashma4187 Год назад +7

      His positioning was actually quite poor for most of the game. He hung far too back behind an island and gave up too much map control. At the 9:30 mark he was clumped up with two other BBs at A, and ended up sailing further towards the 1 line. That was pretty much the worst place he could have been, and it was at that point someone started raging at him in chat. Where he really needed to be from the very start of the battle was up north between B and C where the team was weaker. There he would have been able to create a cross fire against all the enemy ships pushing south.
      The truth is that he mostly got lucky. His poor positioning contributed to the enemy team getting a massive lead and in a majority of cases this would have just turned into another loss where he was "that" battleship, full health and last alive on the team with 50k damage. There was absolutely no reason all those low health ships needed to push in and give flat broadside at close range. This wasn't the case of his positioning forcing the enemy into a bad place, rather it was the enemy willingly putting themselves into a bad position for no reason.
      *edit
      Also as a general point, he spent too much time bow in not utilizing his rear turrets. I acknowledge its easy to fall into the trap of giving too much broadside in order to use all your guns, but the Iowa has decent firing angles and staying mobile with good positioning makes it a lot easier to get all guns on target.

    • @paulvamos7319
      @paulvamos7319 Год назад +2

However, I see no reason why he is running a secondary build spec on a ship that is mostly designed around its main guns. Of course, every player is free to build their ship how they like, but afaik, the strength of the iowa comes from the mobility and the main battery firepower, rather than the secondary guns, which would be better suited for a ship like the massa

You have ~4 heals a game try to use them all.

    "Just unlocked the Iowa, not used to the muzzle velocity" No offence, but I would assume that means he just got done with the North Carolina, which as everyone knows has some of, if not THEE slowest AP shells in the game. So if anything he would be OVERSHOOTING his targets having gotten used to the 45 Caliber 16inch guns vs the 50 Caliber16inch guns. I do have tip though, If you line up the "notches" on the binoculars with the "travel time" of the shells (indicated on the left side of aiming view by that little stopwatch), they will hit that exact spot every time. Its just something i noticed recently and started using myself.
    Other then that GRATE GAME PapaErik. The enemy REALLY wanted that Iowa BOOTY, and thus suffered a sever loss of blood to their brains which compromised their critical thinking skills.

    The Iowa doesn't actually have that strange of ballistics if you were used to North Carolina.
    Both Iowa and NC used the 16" SHS AP round, but Iowa has the 16/50 guns compared to North Carolina's 16/45's, so Iowa has a faster muzzle velocity and flatter shooting arcs compared to North Carolina, requiring less lead than what you need to allow with North Carolina.

    Nice win for Erik, but honestly just unlocking the Iowa is probably one of the flimsiest excuse for underleading i've ever heard. Just unlocking it means he just got through grinding out the North Carolina, which has the exact same superheavy armor piercing shells, but has the 45caliber mark 6 guns (Iowa has 50caliber mark 7 guns), which means far slower shell velocity with bigger arcs. So unless he free XP skipped the NC, he should've realistically been overleading shots, still expecting his shells to move at the speed of snail. He probably just got done playing a few games in Japanese, Russian, or French ships, which have much higher shell velocity, that or he got the last couple thousand free xp playing, again, ships with much higher shell velocity.

    I just can't enjoy this video. This is a perfect video for everything wrong with battleship players even if he just got the ship a few games ago. Staying at the back, not moving until the team is losing, bad aim, not moving to a good engagement range for your guns, and poor armor usage (backing out broadside to that bismarck). Overall a OK game with 100k damage, but it was all luck. Multiple chances where he should have been deleted.

  • @ripLunarBirdCLH
    @ripLunarBirdCLH Год назад

    Honestly speaking about 99% of games in World of Warships is now the same to me. LIke first you have two wings. Then all ships on one wing get instantly deleted by the enemy. Then all ally ships that are still somehow alive group somewhere on the border of the map and wait to lose the game while literally doing nothing but maybe occasional shots from battleships in the general direction of the enemy. Shots that obviously miss.
    And since I play big, slow battleships, I simply cannot evacuate my ass in time from what now became the front lines and I get killed by overwhelming enemy fire while nobody gives a shit. Including ally aircraft carriers.
    So the only hard thing in this game right now is to guess correctly near which border ally idiots will group and go there. And you have literally maybe 33% chance to be right - because they obviously won't be grouping on enemy side of the map, but apart from that anywhere is the fair game. And certainly all location that could potentially win the fucking game - especially cap circles - aren't possible by definition.
    But it's no use to even try to win. Because allies WILL lose it no matter what. At least on my level.
    My best achievement so far was helping to take the cap, once. Because only one time so far some crazy destroyer in my team actually did it seeing that I was nearby to draw enemy fire. And today I managed to dodge about half a hundred or so torpedoes that two or three enemy destroyers have sent my way as a welcome gift. But they actually killed me with their guns before I could withdraw. And they did so without revealing their position, tucked behind an island. And not one ally aircraft carrier bothered to send their bloody aircraft there to spot the fuckers for me so I can oneshot them.
    But hell, I sure wish the enemy team would start throwing so hard as they did in the middle of THIS game. Sure would be nice to have enemies line up in front of my guns one by one like they did for him. Papa Erik, you, good sir, are ONE LUCKY DOG.
    But well, what's even best skill if you don't have any luck, right?😎

    I personally hate the play style the Iowa showed here, and I really don't like glorifying it with a victory and a video. He wasn't hitting ANYTHING at long range, and he (along with a couple other BBs on his team) stayed at long range until he was FORCED by the enemy's advance to engage at medium range (where he actually started doing damage). The Neptune captain pointed it out in game ( 11:41 )! The Iowa hung back, letting all his teammates fight and die before he would commit his ship (with its armor, HP's, and heals) to any significant risk. He then got to mop up the few wounded enemy ships remaining. Yes, the enemy team should have pulled back and let the clock win it for them, but their Smolensk and FDG were already too close to get out of sight when their Kiev died, and why should they be particularly worried about an Iowa that had hardly done any damage at all the whole game? The Smalland was the real threat and they were trying to find and kill him.
    This kind of play style generally is a loser at lower and mid-tier games where being smartly aggressive as a team wins more often than not. I see it all the time (like currently now in T6 Ranked play) when high tier players move to mid-tiers and hang back rather than fight when it will really help. When people take themselves OUT of the fight it just hands the enemy an advantage. This game is won by doing the most damage the soonest. Top tier games are dominated by this super-cautious play style, however, I think largely because getting spotted early invites an immediate focusing-down by the enemy and several top tier ships can quickly kill/cripple even the most powerful ships in the game (e.g. see how ineffective the Yamato is currently in game). So, like here, no one wants to be the ship (esp an easily spotted BB) to get spotted and targeted early and they try to stay just marginally in the fight while expecting other ships to take the real risks.

But I am able to change how I am aiming at another ship after one salvo and I realize yep high arc on this one. And if Papa got to the Iowa he should have been used to those high arc long time American shells. So to be open and honest, the team almost lost early on as Papa could not do his job as an Iowa and failed to adjust quick enough. And the team only won due to Red being overly aggressive at the end (Oh we are up so much lets try to kill all) despite their low health. And interesting match, and Papa was lucky.
