- Surprise! I have been playing Star Ocean the Second Story R for the last few weeks (credit to Square for the code), and now the game is out I wanted to share my thoughts with you! The Star Ocean franchise has been hit or miss over the last few years. However, Star Ocean 2 has often been considered the high point of the series so how does this 2.5d remake stack up?

Finally a remake/remaster done correctly, so much care and polish to a 25 year old game it feels pretty much new again, add quality of life improvement and a more friendly UI, skill points way more categorized, fishing and effects can now be added to gear and weapons. 🎉😊
As someone that's played the original and the psp version countless times, I can't tell you how excited I am to sink my teeth into this version with the japanese voices.
Second story was the second star ocean game I played so many great memories playing it on the way home from school
One of the Greatest JRPGs ever made, just got greater!
Yup, sad I missed on PS1 but this is great.
@@FuzzfingerGamingWait until you get to the maze of tribulations at end game. Plus you have a ton of characters to unlock ( some are really difficult) but it gives you the opportunity to make some guides.

I'm currently playing it. I'm about fifteen hours in and I've barely scraped the surface in this story. Just finished the Kross Cave. I've pretty much just taken my time to explore, talking to every villager I can, grind some levels/fol/sp/bp,skills etc, and have just been mesmerised by the art style and how incredible the world looks.
I just hope this game does incredibly well so that we get more of this style from Square Enix in the future.

good it looks like it's just a clean remaster, I have beat this game on the original PS 1 disks and it looks like there were no changes but cleaning the graphics for HD. Though I do wonder if they kept the cooking mini game as is or not since the TV show it was based off of is no longer on the air
I never played the original, but the Master Chef cooking mini game is in this.
It's a complete remake, literally everything was remade including the character sprites.
I’m still waiting 10 hours counting down here in Portland Oregon to play. I still have everything from the original PS1 with the strategy guide so looking forward to it
This should be the direction Square Enix takes the company going forward. More of this quality that we're seeing in this style, and I think a lot of us fans will be happy. I'd love more original Square Enix games in this style, and perhaps we'll see the Final Fantasy series return to Its roots in a few years time.

is it just me or no english va during assault attacks from other S.o. heroes? japanese dub has voices during assault atttacks i wonder
I got into Star Ocean later in the series, with The Last Hope. So I am not really a big fan of the whole Pixelated thing. But if the story is good I will give it a go.
It's an amazing story and has a great upgrade and crafting system and there's 15 possible endings
i was looking for how new game + is.
Haven't started it yet, but I looked at it on the menu and most stuff carries across including levels and skills.
The music is excellent, the voice acting is a bit too saturday-morning-cartoon.
