Star Ocean The Second Story R is looking to be the remake of my dreams. For such an iconic entry in the franchise, I'm glad it's receiving just treatment, and I'm hoping these favorable impressions of the combat and presentation remain throughout the entire experience. This truly is a game that will be new for veterans and newcomers alike.

My best friend passed away this year. This was the game he introduced me to when we first met 25 years ago and FF7 OG. We were praying for a remake or remaster of this game and FINALLY it's here. I'll be playing in his honor 😊

Been waiting YEARS for this! Star Ocean the Second Story is the game in the series by a considerable margin. It has nearly everything, story, characters, gameplay, music. And seeing that it got the remake treatment twice, I'm sure SE is aware of how respected it is in the RPG community. Can't wait!
Suikoden coming...all we need is Xenogears and CT and life is complete. CT is real good chance I think but Xenogear would be a miracle

For me, as someone who missed the original PS1 and PSP versions, jumping into this remake as my first time playing the game has me very excited. Liking everything I'm seeing so far, and can't wait for November!

I played as Rena back in the day on PS1. I love SO2 so much. I still hear the music in my head from time to time. I played the game so much. Reaching level 255 or whatever it was that was the level cap. I’m glad they didn’t completely change the beautiful graphics. After FF7 I think this game was my favourite on PS1.
I remember the game being easy until the final boss then I had to grind for hours and hours to have a chance.
You get the secret dungeon and boss done? Lol i did didn't know what the horn did and wiped my team lmao😂😂😂😂

This is going to be special. A very unique looking game.
After playing the demo I would say gemdrops really hit the homerun for me. I love everything about the game and it's amazing that they added more content that this also feels like a new game on it's own.

cant wait for this. Hope this will sell well and more old jrpgs get this beautiful remake treatment. Retains the charm of artstyle, but also beautiful new backgrounds and illustrations
Tied for my all time favorite game. I got Star Ocean 2 and Thousand Arms as a fluke on ps1, tips and tricks magazine had a cool two page spread advertisement than just grabbed me and I fell in love with it. So glad to see a remaster on modern consoles and just even just a port of the psp version like 1.

One of my favorite JRPG of all time. It’s like they asked me specifically how I wanted it to be. This is the game I’m most looking forward too.
Despite hearing it’s the best, Star Ocean 2 is the only game I haven’t fully played through. Part of me thought I’d leave it until last so I could truly appreciate it, but I never thought we’d see a remake on this scale happen to enhance that experience even more.
It saddens me that this is the only preview on here. There has been a incredibly small coverage and footage of this game on the web. Theres like 1 other person on here that showed some footage and 1 Japanese guy that is doing incredibly detailed breakdowns from what little footage we get.

The original game is my favorite JRPG. But I played it when I was in highschool, so I'm a little afraid of doing it again at my age now. Hope it holds up, would hate to find out it was so good only because of those simple shonen loving teenage years.
Getting it for switch so fast.....i cant wait to play my beloved game of my past on a cool day on my patio feeling the breeze with this gem in my hands!

Visuals are breathtaking
I played very little of the PS1 original but have seen much of the game and felt the hype of this re-release as I know this game has always been something special. Getting such a beautiful version of it now is really going to be a treat as well. It has a unique look, and the game as far as JRPGs is concerned is historically important I feel. From someone who went full hog🐖 and preordered the PS5 Collector's Edition for what I'm sure was too much money, I am well invested in this release and believe it is as special as it seems. Thanks Noisy, the snapshot of what you provided here got me even more hyped. I am now hyping irresponsibly 🤪 lol
Very excited for this! I played Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution on my old PSP a few years ago and it made me love gaming again. I really hope Star Ocean First Departure R will also be ported to PC. I would love to replay both in a higher quality.

When it was announced in a Nintendo Direct, people are getting excited about Pokémon, Mario, etc, and I’m crying tears of joy over Star Ocean 2 R. I can’t wait.

I'm stoked this is being remade.
It's a White Whale of mine from the PS1 Era. Got towards the end and never beat it. I remember loving it though and it was packed with content and challenge.

In the demo, the French sub had lot of typo. I always dream of a day they implement a button that can switch the language instantly even when the text box is open and during cutscene on all game; or let people rewrite the text in real time and save it. On another subject, I hope they had B buttons to fast forward text. Using A only make you restart the conversation if you don't slow down your A mashing at the end of a conversation. And X2 speed doesn't do anything. Well already pre-ordered I hope they patch them.

With Suikoden 1-2 remaster coming soon and this beautiful gem coming soon all we need is a Tale of Destiny 2 remake and I can be happy for a long time....

I'm so excited for this remake, was gonna buy it for switch, but for some reason it's been taken off the nintendo store, so guess I'll get it for either Playstation or Steam.
this series of star ocean is the best for me
Star Ocean 2 is among the greatest RPGs (and 2 is the best by a fair margin within the series), and the remake looks incredible! Preordered and stoked it's on Steam.
Slightly bummed the old English voice acting from PS1 isn't present, but that happened in a past remake too, so I'm guessing it's a copyright problem (inability or lack of contract writing to be able to produce multiple games with original va without a new agreement). Or perhaps done for consistency bc of voicing new lines for cutscenes. A design issue of the old PS1 version was some of the time stopping spell sequences were way too long for frequent use, but I'm guessing/hoping that's been corrected on this remake

This looks like if Octopath Traveler had EVEN BETTER graphics and was actually fun. Sign me up please!
I wish SE would've kept the random encounters and not able to see the enemies. Hopefully there's a toggle button because I'm one of those people that likes to farm levels and items.

I'm VERY much looking forward to the Suikoden remasters too but this Star Ocean 2 remaster looks significantly better than the Suikoden remasters.
Also, I hope they improve the magicians role in offensive magic spells. When it came to damage output, the magicians were awful in SO 2 compared to even the lesser melee fighters

It's about time games companies stop half arsing remakes of older classical title that deserve so much more love. They really did a dirty one on the remake for star ocean on switch. The only thing that changed was character portraits.
It was good on the ps1 but def no masterpiece or anything close but a solid jrpg. I will still buy and enjoy this remake looks good

Imagine a SO3 remake omg
This is how these classics should be brought to this modern day. Do something that makes the game feel fresh while maintaining just enough nostalgic factor. Seeing games like this, and even Octopath made me see the FF pixel remaster as just a lazy port. Even the upcoming Suikoden re-release. After seeing Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes, Suikoden just looked like a lazy port.
This is what they needed to do with this masterpiece years and years ago. This is a FANTASTIC game and im glad they kept the adult art of the characters and not the cutesy look of the PSP version.

This an Eternights will be my physical PS5 purchases for November. Persona 5 Tactica is too expensive for what it is.
I was like, "This game looks like shit" then I realized I was watching is 360p. But yeah. I really like this bold 2DHD direction. It looks really nice. Gives the environments a sense of depth. I also like the speed of everything. The PS original feels slow as balls and the environments are drab. The music which I also found mediocre outside the battle music, I like what I'm hearing from how they rearranged the soundtrack. Really enhances things. Gonna have to play in Japanese or with voices off though. The English voice work sounds atrocious.

No it will have FIXED encounters similar to the last few TALES of games BUT the monsters will still be randomized AFTER you run into them.

I think so considering they are using the same VO
Possibly since the Data base menu option could be for both that and a in game beastiery/monster collection book though for the monster book it takes at least 2 runs due to the Ashton and Opera ONLY Mt Palace bosses Nightmare Ashton and the 2x Lizard bosses their on a Ashton Run.
Also Claude fights 3 monsters BEFORE you forced to lose to Dias via that Tournament ONLY in a Claude run if you chose Rena you'll only fight 1 battle + Dias himself.
But 2nd Evolution added in DIAS rematch via a Fun City arena PA boss fight one where the AI controls Claude that fight SHOULD exist in this remake but is only done on a Rena game AFTER the final dungeon opens up.
But at the same time this remake will already have Galaxy/Universe mode playable at the start of the game so maxing out the voices won't likely be used for that.
You will probably auto unlock once beating the final boss like PSP and SO1FDR. Voice Collection and the thrill of it was removed a long time ago sadly.
I really hope there is option to turn off battle voice
I hope so to but the PSP version of 2nd Evolution and the PS3 Vita PS4 PORT of that one that NEVER left Japan made that IMPOSSIBLE for in battle use so I had to here Opera say healing star the full 999 times in the Mt Palace itself.
So for this version turning BOTH the BATTLE voices off and the games cutscene voices off may be impossible.

Hard to play any star ocean after star ocean 3s story
I love octopath traveler but 2DHD with action combat just looks boring to me.
Would much rather turn basee myself but to be fair original star ocean 1 and 2 had this style of combat so i respect it. I worry how switch will cope with all those effects in combat though

Played SO2 22 years ago. I liked it, but I think it has become overrated as time went on. It had the sloppiest combat I can remember in any jrpg I ever played.
why why why? 2d characters 😭 why not 3d characters, could've been better, backgrounds look great and game maybe as good as the original but why these pixels its 2023 ffs😭

I'm _really_ tired of modern "pixelart" games having sprites juxtaposed against very high res 3D graphics with all of these advanced UVs and shaders. These sprites do not look like they belong in this game's environment at all, it'd be like taking Link's sprite from the first Zelda game and then slapping it into Tears of the Kingdom with all of it's lighting mechanics. It just doesn't work, games like Sea of Stars and Chained Echos get pixelart right by designing background environments that _match_ the style of the in-game character sprites.
This artstyle is not good, it *hurts* pixelartists.
I dunno. Most people don't mind this look and actually prefer it. The original game was sprites on top of pre rendered 3D environments, so this new look isn't really that far from the original look.
I personally really enjoy it and I think in chaotic games like this in battles it actually helps find where you are on-screen easier than if everything matched styles.
@@Gadgetmawombo The original game was 2D sprites on _pre_ rendered environments, not full 3D models with high detail and shaders.
@@shadowman_44 I know they were pre-rendered backgrounds but they were rendered with hyper realistic shaders for the time. How is this not just the logical next step from that?
@@Gadgetmawombo "For the time", that's the key phrase here. Why go through the effort of upscaling all the background graphics and shit but then not do the same for the sprites? This is again like if you took Link's sprite from the NES Zelda game and then slapped it into Tears of the Kingdom, do you think that would look good?
@@shadowman_44 It depends how they do it. I don't know. I don't think it would ALWAYS work with any combination of sprites/shaders. And its kind of subjective too. I'd say more people like it than hate it.
i wish you could change it to turn based. Not huge fan of anime characters but otherwise enviroments looks very beatiful.
The pop in is so bad on this remake i cant even focus on the game u got grass and tress popin in from like 9 meters away unfortunately its atrocious

What are we supposed to say? We played the game for 20minutes and we are telling you about our brief experience. Previews are kinda tough tbh especially when you only play a game for 15 minutes.
I have not played this franchise at all but I am definitely buying this game, I have really grown to love action-rpgs and this looks amazing!
