Hey Peachy, if you want to stop the bleeding through of a colour when masking, just put a layer or the original paint on the edge of the tape and then once its dried then do the new colour. learnt this when decorating the living room

get masking bleed? Varnish first. Mask, quick sqirt of matt or gloss varnish rattle can or air brush, should work with a brush. then go from there :P

Or just do a quick pass of the base color at the edge of the tape, if you can’t be bothered to use varnish.

For neat chevrons, cover the area in strips of masking tape and then remove alternate strips of tape. Paint the areas black - boom, evenly spaced chevrons.

  • @jorgemontero6384

Fun fact: Tamiya sells a masking tape designed to support curves. It's far more flexible than normal tape, making it worse for straight lines, but for, say, a space marine pauldron, or the hood of an armiger, it's pretty great. Good luck with the lamenters' heart though.

I've been using masking tape for years, and sponging to do chipping.
I would never have thought to use sponging to do the base colours. Definitely going to try it out next time. You are so right, when I use a brush there is a bit of paint running.
Ok you asked for tips, and here's mine (though it is more a general terrain tip than a marking tip): when you have done all your markings and base colours on terrain pieces, give it a wash of sepia and earthshade (3 to 1 ratio), then use a piece of paper towel and blot of the wash on the raised areas, leaving the wash in the recesses. It can also work on normal minis as well. Especially if you are aiming for speed. Hope it helps someone.
Thanks Mr Peach. Keep up the good work.

I don't know about that specific masking tape, but many painters tapes are supposed to be wetted before painting. The water causes the glue to expand and fill in the gaps to prevent the bleed.

Great vid!, to help with bleed on masking stick the tape down and paint a layer of the previous colour in this case red, it will bleed and block the edges of the tape then once dry when you do,the next colour in this one yellow there’s no gap due to the red and bleed will be less, hope this helps

Another masking tape bleed fix: paint one color, put your tape down, then paint the edges of the tape line with the original color. This seals up the seam, and allows a crisp second color. I got this tip from my fiancé who watches HGTV shows and it works! Zero bleed.

Great video, I’m not really brave enough to do a lot of fancy stuff but I wanna give it a go. I love the name “peachlings” haha. To avoid bleed I heard you can re-paint the base colour over the top of the tape, it’ll fill in the gap. So paint red, tape, red on the tape edge, it’ll be sealed up and stop bleeding. Not a big issue for small things but might help with large important pieces!

  • @almost_zab
    @almost_zab 4 месяца назад +1

if you want a nice solid clean like with the masking tape here's the pro tip to avoid bleeding: paint the shield red, apply your tape, paint the edge of the tape the same red, then when its dry paint the yellow and when you peel, it will be a nice solid line with no bleed because the red over the line of tape will bleed and seal it so the yellow doesn't bleed ;)

I always use my untrustworthy eye for markings, is works surprisingly often. Other than that, using a pencil or similar to lightly sketch out your marking and then paint over it is also a nice trick. Most of us are more comfortable using a pen or pencil than a brush so sketching like that gives me fairly accurate designs since it becomes more "paint within the lines" and less "freehanding and hoping it works." :)

Whenever I think about doing something tricky like free hand and feel put off I always try to keep in mind "it's just paint - it goes on and it can come off or be covered if need be". Admittedly my freehand attempts aren't always the best - but I get a bit better with every attempt! The clone trooper markings were ace!

Good video, one thing I have tried, to varying success is cutting card logos and then airbrushing the basic shape and tidying up, it would work just as well with a sponge. How hows the Peach Fuzz stand up or the fuzzes?

The tips are fantastic, but what I want to know is what painting handles are you using to mount the shields on?!

I was just curious, what do you use for your video set up? Do you have any cameras/lights you'd recommend and what do you use to position your camera? I'd be interested in making some videos and yours look great!
