I installed a Nord-Lock wedge lock washer in place of the washers the kickstand was installed with. I’ve used them on other bikes to fix kickstand bolts loosening and I’ve never noticed loosening with any of them since. I highly recommend them. I was really surprised the kickstand was installed with a split-ring and a flat washer. A split ring washer doesn’t work that well at resisting loosening, but it won’t work at all with a flat washer installed with it. Other misses I noticed with my XPedition, most of which are minor (and kind of expected at this price point) but one which can cause major issues and should be corrected: One of the spring pins on one of my running boards was so off orientation, I had to enlarge its corresponding hole in the frame so it would go through it and lock the running board in. Seems someone “eyeballed” the braze-ons of the board’s support post when attaching them rather than using a fixture. Bosses for water bottle cages and battery mounts are off center. They don’t affect function, but they are easily noticeable when you look at them. Stem and fork were misaligned. I had to loosen the bolts and align them. Spacers on both brake calipers made it so a small but significant area of the pads hang off the other edge of the rotors. A friend of mine who lives in a very steep hilly area told me about how her pads caught the edge of the rear rotor after some wear and got partially ejected from their calipers, losing brake function and making really loud metallic squealing noises at the rear caliper. She sent me pics of her pads and twisted leaf return spring. When I disassembled mine, my pads also showed a corner and outer edge not wearing, creating material that could catch on the other edge of the rotors, with the rear being worse. I tried flipping the spacers and switching them front to-back but none of those worked. I ground them down so the pads are completely on the rotors. This could be dangerous if you ride down long, steep hills, so check yours out and ask Lectric to replace the spacers or entire caliper assembly (spacers would be easier as you won’t have to mess with hydraulic brake lines). Or, if you’re confident in your ability, grind yours down to correct the situation, but measure twice before grinding. All that said, it is a very good cargo ebike for its price, especially with the default speed caps removed from PAS 1 & 2. I use it for almost all my shopping runs now, though the trailer hitch is only compatible with their pet trailer, so I have to make an adapter to hook my cargo trailer to it. I do wish the power settings for each PAS level were adjustable as I think 1 is a bit high for tight maneuvers at low speed, and the gap between 1 & 2 is too big.
Just hit 600 miles on my Xpedition and I love it! Agreed that it's an amazing value for the price (although I agree with some of those cons too-I'd definitely appreciate some good front shocks and that quieter motor).
Any cargo bike should have a STURDY kickstand, there's simply no excuse for not having a good stand. The whole "you're not meant to use it when you're loading cargo" is absurd. Literally the only reason why you buy a cargo bike is because every time you ride it, you're loading cargo. In this sense, Tern has it right, their kickstand is great.
I have one on order. I’m old and live on coastal Florida. I ordered one because I met a guy at a fishing spot who had his totally decked out for fishing. I sure hope it’s a good purchase.
I live and fish in Florida, and got my Expedition Cargo a couple days ago. Rigged it with front platform for my cooler. Orbitor on back for hauling castnet and bait bucket, footboards have diy rod holders. I attached a towing hitch under rear deck frame and can tow my 90 lb Hobie easily. When towing and hauling all this gear, I can hardly notice any performance difference. Stability fully loaded and towing is phenomenal and hydraulic brakes give me dependable stopping power. I am 74, and this bike replaced my 30 yr old F150 V8. Not enough rides to really know the range, but with dual batteries I'm confident I'll never get stranded. Just gotta get a rain cover in case a shower pops up. EDIT: Max range for all that gear is 19 mi for 1 battery, 40 mi for 2. Did get a cover, and I put that on while I'm out on the water - keeps hands off the bike, controls, panniers.
Been looking at Ebikes for 2 yrs. And. I'm a big guy and most bike look so small. Still leaning toward the X26. It was the 1st bike I liked, and it keeps getting better.
I just bought one to help me get two grandkids to school and can’t wait to get started. Unfortunately, it arrived with a punctured front tube and is sitting for a week in the repair shop. I already love the ease of “assembly”, and your tips about accessories are very helpful - need to get to the shop this morning and have them add rear view mirror!
Great review. Regarding the missing deflopilator, I agree this is a must. I bought a spring and spring cover from another eBike manufacturer (Radio Flyer had one for a good price) and it was an easy add with the under-frame mounting boss Lectric provides. I made a simple bracket for the spring to hook to under the frame. The front fender mount has a hole on the rear for the other end of the spring. Works great! I also agree a second charger would be nice, we solved that by buying an XP trike for my wife 😂 Very impressed with both, especially at their price point. Nice job Lectric.
Absolutely looking into and hopefully getting two of these. Wife has End stage renal failure but wants to get out with our daughter and travel around without getting fatigued. Hoping this lives up to the hype! 🎉
I enjoyed my 2020 Lectric XP stepthru ebike but sold it because the riding geometry was bad for when the power ran out in my hilly area. But it sure hauled and felt stable at speed, very fun. Converted a hardtail mtn bike with a cheap kit and it was fun, better geometry and overall ride but less powerful and weird balance from the rear rack battery. A legit e-mtn bike would be sweet but not carry gear, and I just ride on roads and dirt roads, don't need a mtn bike and still have a normak one for when I want that flow. This looks like the perfect way to drive less, such great range, better motor and controller, lots of versatile cargo capacity. I'm pretty much sold already. Gonna wait a bit still, got some other stuff to get first, but yeah, this will be my main transportation next summer.
The two biggest things that sold me on the Lectric brand is the price compared to what you get, and the seeming level of support. I plan to buy either an ebike or etrike from them but not sure which yet. I'm kind of leaning towards the cargo ebike due mostly to range. However, the trike is alluring because I'm fairly disabled and I can't move around as good as I used to. I think I could handle an ebike with throttle only, but a trike would probably be more relaxed.
I was thinking of getting an e-bike like the Lectric Xpedition cargo dual battery e-bike after buying a Segway Ninebot Max G2 e-scooter for $900 three months ago that goes 22mph and it's great for quick trips to the store and they let me take it into the stores and walk next to it so I don't have to lock it up and have a chance of getting the lock cut and the e-scooter getting stolen, plus it weighs 50lbs and the stem folds which is easy to get up the 5 or 6 steps to get into my rowhome! Then almost 2 weeks ago I got the Kaabo Wolf Warrior X Plus 2024 e-scooter with dual motors for $1,600 and it goes 44mph+, it has hydraulic disc brakes with regen braking and it has dual stems which makes it way more stable than any single stem e-scooter and is a beast of an e-scooter which is so much fun to ride, but it also weighs 79lbs and is a little tricky to get up the steps, but I found an easy way to get it up and down the 5 or 6 steps. Going down is very easy as I just let the e-scooter go down the steps very slowly using the brakes since it has a high ground clearance. At 51 years old the e-scooter is loads of fun with the proper protection like a motocross or motorcycle helmet so you don't break your face if you fall and knee/shin and elbow guards are good along with a set of riding gloves with knuckle protection and palm protectors incase of a fall. The Lectric e-bike is very nice and a great review, btw!
Hoping they’ll make this to fit a 16” bike user. Just need one more inch on the handle bars to make a comfortable ride for my 5’3” height. I’m waiting for now. Hope they make motor noise and other improvement suggest on this review.
I'm about to hit 1800 miles. I loved the Xpedition but purchased a KBO Commuter Breeze thinking it would be a better option for the short distance between home and work (10 miles both ways). However, I sold the KBO to a friend because I couldn't part from my Xpedition! I ride my Xpedition all year in all good, bad, and ugly weather types. So far this investment decision will save me about $2,300 in commuting costs on the wear and tear of our minivan. The biggest benefit I love is riding my grandkids with the orbiter and my grandkids love riding and visiting a nearby pear tree to grab pears so grandma can make pear jam and pie filling. 😋 Our house is about a rock's throw from the Ohio Erie Towpath, which runs from Lake Erie to the Ohio River; our section has a paved pathway around a beautiful small lake (2.25 miles) with two bridges and a floating boardwalk. FUN, FUN! My bike is due for a break pad change and tire replacements (with Tannu's liners and better tires for winter), especially for my upcoming 288-round trip to Columbus, Ohio, and back in July. I like the street tires, but I only had one flat tire. The rear tire is getting thin and needs to be replaced. I have ten grandkids, and seven live nearby, so since I am destined to own a mini-van, I will be destined to own a cargo E-bike. LOL, I highly recommend getting one, but it could be a little heavy for older adults {I'm 63), so do some dumbbell workouts and body resistance training if you're transporting precious cargo like grandkids. Great review! Thank you!
@@leeroy5529 I almost always ride except in wet, slushy snow, thunderstorms, and super high winds, but I do ride in frigid and hot temperatures. (as low as the low teens or in the 90's)
The adjustable and folding stem seems like a good idea, but I wish they just had a non adjustable non foldable stem. I get the folding stem is for shipping so I can live with that. The telescoping seat bar is a waste. It adds more weight that no one will really use. A non-spoke wheel in the back would be nice too. The vibrations this particular geared motor gives off will begin to untrue your wheel after only a few hundred miles if not sooner. Out of my 7 electric bikes, this bike has the most spoke issues on the rear wheel. I wish that the tire size was 20x4 as the options for bike and motorcycle tires is much better at that size.
I have one but haven’t ridden it in a while. The bike itself is fine, but the tires and tubes just don’t hold up. I don’t know if I just have bad luck with tube tires, but I feel like it needs a sturdier tire.
800+ miles into mine and i love it but.. Kickstand does come lose all the time and is a pain to reach. Lost the key to one of my batteries and replacing it seems more trouble than it's worth. It is noisy but as my first bike i have nothing to compare to. Wish the system that pulls power from both batteries could split the charge too so one charger could charge both and keep the batteries even. Wish it said how much each battery was charged instead of combined power. Torque isn't quite there yet. I go up a hill regularly that i can barely petal to the top of.
The issue with the kickstand is they installed a split-ring lock washer and a flat washer between the nut and the frame. A split-ring is a weak lock washer, and the flat washer completely negates its limited locking function. It will work better if you remove the flat washer. I replaced both with a wedge-lock washer (Nord-Lock brand). It works much better than a split-ring or star-type lock washer. It’s a two-piece washer, so make sure you install both pieces, with the sawtooth faces on each piece facing each other. The Nord-Lock ones come hot-glued together, but just in case they get separated before you install them, you’ll know how to do so correctly. You can augment either with some thread-lock on the bolt before you thread the nut back on. You’ll need to degrease the bolt, apply the thread-lock and wait at least 15 minutes before threading the nut back on. I just use a wedge-lock washer. Haven’t had it loosen since (late March/early April 2023).
I’m up to 1900 miles on my Expedition. The handle bars 4 bolts get loose BUT Lectric sent replacement bolts without even questioning - like received in 2 days, amazing, with extra bar stem also. So the service is unreal and with lock tight the bolts won’t get loose. In comments and forums everyone gives advice which solves these problems. Best value cargo bike out there as far as I know.
I had this issue also and emailed them but never got a response!! Had to figure it out on my own since I bought the bike when it was first released and had very little information out there.. as with any company, “great product support” should be taken with a grain of salt! 😒
Today is Monday October the 14th I have a voucher from the state of Colorado energy program for $1400,I want the cargo dual battery expedition..I would like to buy it from your shop, but we can only buy it from local shops. If there's another way to do that please inform me, also in Colorado we have a tax rebate of 450.00 dollars offered by the bike shops to add ontop of the voucher. 😅
Hey Lectric, will that cargo kick stand fit my XP3 ? I'm not a big fan of the single side bike stand. Feels wonky when loading the rear rack. Love the bikes!
I do not believe there is a hole for that type of kickstand to mount. However, you might try the Lectric Facebook group and see if anyone has installed one.
Good question - there is just so much capacity I have no idea. I always charge at least one battery when they are getting low. JT here- I agree with Ryan’s answer above. I normally just charge them after a couple rides. However I do know that the average mileage I get before even thinking about charging is 15-20miles. And even then the battery charge level is around 50-60%. And that is with my payload being between 300-350lbs.
I’ve never run mine to depletion, but based on voltage and miles traveled at time I choose to charge, I expect about 60 miles per fully charged pair of batteries. I use mine almost exclusively for shopping, so it carries from 20-80lbs beyond my weight (230lbs) and my locks and tool & first aid kits (about 20lbs) on the return leg. I typically use PAS 1-3 on quiet neighborhood roads with posted speed limits of 25mph or separate bike paths, riding between 12-18mph. I use PAS 2-5 on the main road between my neighborhood and the stores (Kroger, Target, Costco, occasionally to Meijer, Home Depot or Lowe’s), riding between 18-28mph because cars drive anywhere from 38-55mph alongside the painted bike gutter. Posted speed limits are 35-45mph, but drivers almost always exceed them, especially along the 45mph section, which is two wide lanes in each direction, plus dedicated turn lanes. I hate riding along that road, but I need to, so I go as fast as I can to reduce the speed differential and reduce the time I’m riding alongside that traffic. If you weigh and carry less and ride more slowly than I do, you should get more miles per pair of fully-charged batteries.
I think it would be nice for Lectric engineers to comment on some of these criticisms, rather than just “fix them “. For example, the loud hub motor probably had to do with having more durable metallic sandwich planetary gears. If the reviewers or the public in general knew that there was an engineering choice between having it be louder, but also more durable versus quieter, but also weaker, most people would put up with the extra noise and stop complaining about it. Likewise, as an engineer myself, I know that the lack of a suspension fork was way to keep the cost and wait down. This bike cannot be offered for $1400 if it had a suspension fork that was worth a damn. It was a way to lower the cost without also lowering the quality. I see that Lectric is making videos here and there they should make a video series on things like this.
That was some excellent feedback you had for Lectric regarding loading kids. Ryan, are you about done having kids? If you have anymore you’re going to need to buy a boxfiets or go back to cars. :-(
I just hit 1,300 miles in my cargo only compliant is 3 flat tires and they charge me $75 labor each time cause the trek shop claims it like changing a motorcycle tire how hard it is to change the rear tire
On any hub drive ebike it's a pain unfortunately since everything is bolted on. $75 seems pretty fair, maybe a tad high but at least they did it being a Trek shop.
Thule seat for the two year old. Older one could go either way, I think the limit is 40 or 45 lbs? Probably a padded seat for him/her with the Orbiter..
Biggest con and only con for me that is worth mentioning, and makes the bike it not worth buying, not to mention, I think is a major issue; the handle bar riser, it constantly comes loose. I’ve retightened it, used blue loctite, then tried red loctite, but still comes loose.
Could you please, PLEASE show how you get the Lectric pannier bags on at the same time as the Orbitor? For the life of me I can’t get it to work. Also, this video was excellent. So many review channels don’t give the details I think people actually need. You guys hit it spot on.
I didn’t buy the Orbitor because I want to be able to use the cover flaps on the XL panniers. There is no way to use them this way with an Orbitor installed. Any pictures of the combination on Lectric’s site shows the pannier bags in their open-top configuration. To use them this way, fold all the small overlapping flaps against the underside of the cover, then tuck the cover into the body of its pannier. Install the panniers this way first, making sure the handle flops towards the interior of the pannier, then install your Orbitor. Tighten the outer clips so they rest snugly against the side of the pannier to keep them from snagging on things. To support the outer wall of the pannier, feed the center strap through the handle, then fasten it with the clasp (that’s why there are two straps on the clasp - one for covered, one for open-top mode).
I added "sandshoes" to mine. Increases total footprint from about 1.75 square inches to over 9 square inches. I can park on grass or beach sand without sinking in.
I wish an e-bike company would do level 2 charging … 220V … like for an electric car … that way you can recharge quickly if you want to do a long trip … too much to ask?
If all the battery keys were the same, people that have ebike similar to yours could steal your batteries! I don't want that! Do you? Added security in my opinion! I couldn't afford to keep buying new batteries
One large battery seems like it would be better than 2 small batteries. Seems like wasted space. A single battery could be more powerful than the dial batteries.
True, but allows them to keep things simple and offer an affordable single battery version without having two different packs. This helps drive prices down.
Actually 2 is better makes them get more juice from each battery and drains them lower with keeping the power from dropping RUclips a vid about 1-2 or even one that has 3 battery’s they get more from each and last longer.
I'm just warning everyone that this company with rip you off ..They don't stand behind anything they sell.. The accessories they sell aren't compatible with other accessories, but they don't tell you that till you try, then say sorry it's not refundable...
So if you had an issue I would take it to a bike store don't call the company they are very very very very aggressive when you tell him you got a problem they don't want to fix it
The telescoping seatpost will, but you’ll probably lean forward a bit to the bars. I’m 6ft with a 32in inseam and I ride fairly upright with the stem at 80 degrees per the markings on its side.
Dumb cons !!! Yalll did some brainstorming to come up with those ! And an extra cup of coffee to agree on the wording 😳🤦♂️ Lectric direct 👍 won’t be padding their bank account
I'm amazed that it lasted 1000 miles. Lectric bikes are made with junk components. Only people who have not studied e bike motors and batteries buy them.
Do you think the brand would be as popular as it is if they had a reliability problem? Honest question - I've never had an issue with a Lectric Ebike and I've been riding them since the XP 2.0
I know you’re trying to make a living doing this, but in recent episodes, it feels very commercial. Selling stuff from your store, sponsor callouts… yuck. You’ve really sold out. 😔

LOL, I highly recommend getting one, but it could be a little heavy for older adults {I'm 63), so do some dumbbell workouts and body resistance training if you're transporting precious cargo like grandkids. Great review! Thank you!
What kind of weather can you ride the XPedition in? Rain, too, or with snow on the ground?
What is your fav e-bike? I'm looking for something to take camping for use around the campground, ride trails, and use in my hood when home.
I have one but haven’t ridden it in a while. The bike itself is fine, but the tires and tubes just don’t hold up. I don’t know if I just have bad luck with tube tires, but I feel like it needs a sturdier tire.
How water resistant is it? We live in a rain state...
I would install a velcro style seat belt for the passenger, and give them maybe a poll so they can help stand up the bike if it falls over? ?
Where's the cable disconnecters for the headlights.. I want to put a basket on front
Thanks for sharing and good to hear that Lectric took care of you.
They probably knew there was an issue, they need to use loctite on those bolts
I had this issue also and emailed them but never got a response!! Had to figure it out on my own since I bought the bike when it was first released and had very little information out there.. as with any company, “great product support” should be taken with a grain of salt! 😒
Thank you this was helpful, been looking for a kid transport bike!
Thanks Lenny
He's a champ
Did this fir on your one up rack with the standard spacers or did you have to add the fat tire kit?
how bout type C 4.0 pd charging and lower hill climming gears thank you
What bike rack would you suggest for this bike, and a Chevy Silverado truck? Is appreciate your input
Can i purchase and install an updated brake/turn signal for rear? If so where or whats the link?
Definitely prefer the child cage on my RW4.
It's definitely better
Hey Lectric, will that cargo kick stand fit my XP3 ? I'm not a big fan of the single side bike stand. Feels wonky when loading the rear rack.
Love the bikes!
I do not believe there is a hole for that type of kickstand to mount. However, you might try the Lectric Facebook group and see if anyone has installed one.
Thank you for this video! Would two "plus 1" chairs fit on the back of one bike?
Or a plus 1 and a thule seat together?
Thanks for the review. What kind of range are each of you getting? I’m very curious about real world results.
Version 2.0 has a suspension fork, suspension seat post, quiet motor, torque sensor, longer range and is the same price as this. lol
That was some excellent feedback you had for Lectric regarding loading kids.
Ryan, are you about done having kids? If you have anymore you’re going to need to buy a boxfiets or go back to cars. :-(
Ha! We already have one but it needs more power. This year is going to be...interesting
You did not mention the speed/top speed of this bike, and it is nowhere to be found on their website.
28 mph after it is set to class 3 in settings but it comes to go 22 mph without adjusting the settings.
wait how did you get the plus 1 chair that far back? Care to share?
It attaches to the Thule Yepp Maxi window.
@@EbikeEscape and the chair is solid? Instructions show that you need to use the screws.
There are bolt holes that far back that you can attach it with. And it was solid enough for a toddler.
What about a 20 thousand miles update?????
Kid 1 - 33 lbs, 5 years old and kid 2 2 years old 22 lbs. what you recommend far as seats for this bike?
Thule seat for the two year old. Older one could go either way, I think the limit is 40 or 45 lbs? Probably a padded seat for him/her with the Orbiter..
@@EbikeEscape thanks I’ll get the orbiter and Thule seat, assuming they will all fit on the frame at the same time?
Do you have suggestions for a more comfortable seat?
Yes, just added my favorite to the blog post
Sorry where is that?
In the description
Can you buy the single battery and add the other battery later?
I believe so (confirm with Lectric) but it wouldn't be ideal
What rear rack do you use for this when transporting?
Quikrstuff
those grips does it matter rather i get large or small for my xpedition when it comes in?
The last I checked it was the width of the actual grip so if you have small hands you might go with the smaller vs larger.
@@EbikeEscape thank you
Iove this bike
Where did you get that orange kids seat?
Thule: amzn.to/3vTzx0d (affiliate link)
How's the kickstand? People seem to whine about that on Reddit.
It comes loose. Needs to be tightened or maybe some Loctite? I hope it's better on the next version.
I weight 230lb, can I transport my 110lb wife on this bike? Ty
Ever pop a wheelie on it?
Too heavy haha
Damn, they seriously need a better kickstand!!!
I added "sandshoes" to mine. Increases total footprint from about 1.75 square inches to over 9 square inches. I can park on grass or beach sand without sinking in.
How can a motor be 400% quieter? Wouldn't 100% quieter be silent?? Lol. Good video
Maybe 4x quieter haha. Thanks!
5:07, remove the bettery, not the seat. Much quicker
I wish an e-bike company would do level 2 charging … 220V … like for an electric car … that way you can recharge quickly if you want to do a long trip … too much to ask?
deflopilator? ahh my phatmoto needs one of those.😂🍻
No noise
If all the battery keys were the same, people that have ebike similar to yours could steal your batteries! I don't want that! Do you? Added security in my opinion! I couldn't afford to keep buying new batteries
I love this ebike
We meant that the two batteries you receive are keyed the same, not every bike.
the quiet motor on a heavy ass bike that can do almost 30mph is not a pro, that's like a stealth missile
Can you share more details?
That's a center stand, not a kick stand. My scooter has both.
Fair
So if you had an issue I would take it to a bike store don't call the company they are very very very very aggressive when you tell him you got a problem they don't want to fix it
I have never heard of them being aggressive before.
I bought this bike and it never worked. It took around 2 months to get my full refund
Sorry to hear that
Details? I really like mine.
I hate mine
@@honphan4366why?
I use mine for everything. It’s better than a gas powered motorcycle because I don’t need anything more than a couple panels to charge it for free.
im 6.6 ft can i fit on lectric xpremium ebike
The telescoping seatpost will, but you’ll probably lean forward a bit to the bars. I’m 6ft with a 32in inseam and I ride fairly upright with the stem at 80 degrees per the markings on its side.
Too bad it doesn't have 4 batteries, not enough mileage
And I'm sorry you don't need a dampener on a e-bike going 20 mph
You need to learn how to ride a bike first
Dumb cons !!! Yalll did some brainstorming to come up with those ! And an extra cup of coffee to agree on the wording 😳🤦♂️ Lectric direct 👍 won’t be padding their bank account
Must give a bumpy ass ride.
If it were your business how would you monetize it?
