- Let’s just say not everyone is going to be inclined to tell you everything about the XPedition. Here’s what I’ve found that I wish I knew earlier.
None of this makes me regret any decision I’ve made with the purchase of the XPedition but it would’ve been nice to have had a heads up about these few items.

I loved this video, especially the content related to the Plus 1 Chair.
My husband installed the Chair as you have it, all the way back with a pad in front. For context, I’m 5’2”, small build. I took it for a test ride with my 6 year old, and boy was it squirrelly. The back-end fishtailed and overall, the bike was not easy to control. My husband tested it, and although he had better control, he agreed it was a bit squirrelly, even with an adult passenger. He moved the seat to option 2 and I re-tested. What a difference. The bike was no longer squirrelly and I had much better control and the ride felt so much safer. I do see why Lectric doesn’t promote that option. For a newer and maybe smaller rider, that option could be dangerous.
One thing I do recommend. The bike mirrors. I like being able to see behind me, without having to turn back, especially when I have a small passenger.
Overall, love this bike!
Yes, weight more centered will have more stability for sure. Stay safe!
I’ve seen some great reviews on RUclips, and I’m thrilled to come across one like this. It covers information that others often overlook, exactly what I hope to see in most reviews.
I wish those were oversights but unfortunately there’s an agenda behind many of the “reviews” you’ve been watching. They’re ads.
Thank you, this is great. 99% of the reviews are people who got the bike for free and won’t say anything negative, and I am very tired of that. It’s not really a review without criticism.
Exactly, I call them overviews. They also don't use them extensively enough to really review for ownership. It's more like, "hey look how cool this bike is!" And then in a couple weeks "Hey look how cool this bike is". That's why there are very few bike comparison videos. It's always about the next best thing.
I think we would all feel the same if we rented or borrowed said bike, but ownership is an entirely different scenario.
I like how you find humor in your life / videos.
A little nitpicky, friend. I go up steep hills every day with no problem at all! I have almost 400 miles on my XExpedition Cargo, and it runs smoothly (gear shifting needs adjusting), but other than that, I have an excellent experience. I have ridden my grandchildren on the back, and it handles them nicely. I am 5'8", and my seat is set for 31 inches and is very comfortable. To rate the bike, I give it a 9.5 out of 10 because I wish it came with a turn signal rear light. Note: I should have gotten the extra battery.
Cool. Glad you’re enjoying it.
@@Funcentric I'm grateful for your input, and didn't find it nit-picky at all. I want a cargo ebike, but NEED the hill climbing to be STRONG. Fact is, Rear Hub bikes aren't great climbers, especially with loads, compared to mid-drives. Lots of videos on YT showing the contrast, and it's not close. The nm of torque are important, not just watts of power. I have a Priority Current, and it's great on hills, but I want even more torque and power, so I'm looking at a Dost. Tern HSD would be great, but value over a dost doesn't seem to be there.
@@jdavies Thanks. It’s there for sure. I’ve ridden a handful of Terns and the quality is superb. Worth the price if you’re willing/able to spend it. I’m not. Power is underwhelming at best. But mid drive allows the same performance of a hub motor with higher torque specs.
But yes, Terns are mid drives so prices are going to be higher. Most mid drives don’t have throttles. Something to think about. Riding a throttled bike is very different from one that’s limited strictly to PAS.
The best you can do with gearing is going to be an 11-34T 7 or 8 speed. And or shrink the chain ring. I have a video tutorial on swapping out the 11-28T freewheel on the XPedition to an 11-34T. Much more capable now.
How often do you have to buy batteries?
@@hisnameisiam808 I'm now at 1700 miles and 11 months. My battery is holding strong, but I did have to replace the original charger six months ago.
I watched that live video they did as well. It was clear that some of it was false after getting some of the accessories and seeing all the issues with the Xpedition. The bike and parts after years of in the making should just work. Xtracycle use to be king in the day for all the stuff they sold, worked well, and this was a kit to extend your bike to a cargo bike. I'll say after getting all the rattles and stuff worked out, minus the kick stand, the Xpedition has been working well lately on errands. The frame is very stiff and not wobbly like my Xtracycle and a fat ebike that I tried to mount two batteries on a few years ago, they are noodly feeling and the Xpedition, surprisingly with the low step seems sturdy even with two huge cat litter boxes in one bag, one of the huge packs of waters in the other. And soda, other groceries. Huge step up from my other bike frames. Lectric needs a V2 of this bike however, torque sensor at the very least.
I can see why Lectric doesn’t give instructions for how to install the chair that far back. That moves the passenger’s center of gravity behind the contact patch of the rear tire, and a larger person can fit that seat whereas only smaller passengers could fit into the Orbitor, which makes lifting the front tire more likely. I wouldn’t encourage people to do that either.
The plus one seat is designed for adults though. Lectric markets it like that. It would only make sense that a pad be put in front because it would otherwise just be the bare frame.
@@Funcentric I think he's saying if you are using the plus one as opposed to the orbitor you are probably carrying an adult passenger, and if you have an adult you probably only have room/weight capacity for one person. And assuming it's an adult, you don't want that much (100+ lbs person) weight that far back on the rack as the adult passengers weight is behind the rear wheel possibly lifting the front of the bike up and causing instability. The seat being mounted more forward the center of gravity is more towards the center of the bike which increases stability.
But I see your point, it looks odd without a continuous cushion and would probably be nice as opposed to just the railing on your legs.
@@jamesclawson9243 yeah I get that. The physics of it makes sense. I have a child back there in my particular application. I feel like kids will outgrow the Orbiter quite quickly. There’s a huge gap in age between being too big for the orbiter and an adult.
I do feel the plus one requires some more stability so I did double up on the anchoring.
@@Funcentric that's a fair point. You could definitely use the plus 1 for older kids. I actually just bought the Aventon Abound and am considering trying to Jerry rig the plus one seat on it as I'm wanting to take adult passengers
@@jamesclawson9243 That's a very good quality bike. Much better than the Lectric. Enjoy!
you have a great point.
let me tell you my story with the lectric 3.0 bike. i got this bike after I saw the range of 25 miles on pas 3 with pedal assist. all i was getting was 13 mile instead of 24 mostly i drive this bike on a straight road i live in california we have no hills here. i called lectric about this issue they said the range always changes due to conditions. after i haggled it for a few weeks they gave long range battery for only $100. their ranges are not correct on their websites and i think its very wrong.
The ranges are all short by at least 30% on all brands. But what I found frustrating is that Lectric specifically says, "real world range" on their site and boasts about it. Even "reviewers" (salespeople) on RUclips don't call them out on it which is way annoying. We need more real people reviews.
You probably fail on doing your do diligence reading everything about it. They give approximate numbers depending on the PAS you use it and even does number depend on how you use it the mix of throttle and pedal assit, also the weight of the raider plays a role.
@@JesusGarcia-ub2wt nope. It’s all lie. I did my research don’t worry.
Seems strange because I got more milage than what they disclosed on my 3.0
I regret buying the XPedition and trusting those RUclips reviews. I sold it for the Aventon Abound which is a significantly better bike.
I heard that aventon has really bad battery's that tend to fail
You never get to know a bike until you have had it for an extended ride. Somewhere between a week end or a weeks worth of evaluation. I bought a different brand of cargo bike but was fortunate to hire one for a month before purchasing one.
There was excitement initially but after a few days there was the little nit picks that would end up being an annoyance or expensive to change. After hiring one I knew what I wanted in a cargo bike and looked around until something close fitted the bill even if there needed a few personal modifications.
Yup, exactly.
you can lower the seat an inch or so by flipping the bolt under the seat bar to above. i do this on every bike seat as im short. had same issue with a rear rack. 🍻
@@niteshades_promise cool, thanks!
FWIW it looks like Lectric isn't building these in the US. AIPAS came out with a similar bike that moves one of the batteries into the frame (shortening it in the process), but also adds better lights (brake light and directionals) and front suspension. Similar price, too, it just leaves out the massive glut of holiday bonus stuff (the pads, running boards, mirrors, pannier bags, Orbitor basket).
And I don’t think their batteries are UL listed. Lectric recently had their batteries UL listed from what I hear. All e-bikes are made in China but it’s the American support we are after. AIPAS doesn’t offer that. Big pass even though specs look good.
My favorite e bike youtuber for sure. You should figure out how to and where to mount an aftermarket battery with a ridiculous range on it. (I seen a 100ah battery for sale) Also, maybe show us some cool aftermarket things to mount to the xpedition.
Because of the plus one seat tutorial, I'm going to see if I can move the seat back and put a kids seat (maxi) on the front without uninstalling the plus 1
Wow! Thanks for the compliment! Made my month! I won’t be using a third battery though. Performance drops and takes up more space. I’d like for it to look as oem as possible.
Yeah, I can do an accessories overview. I recently installed a horn but mounting location for the button isn’t so great.
hey the hook on the front basket only pulls the wires out of the way so much - i’ve got my wires tucked using the hook and i still bump the wires with my knee while pedaling hard
super smooth alarm location, under the seat :)))
kickstand info is so good to hear - that thing is awful and LOUD
Like getting a new car always find things we like and dislike but so far late summer I really enjoy the bike I hope to ride slot more this coming fall
Hey great video info. Do you think two plus 1 seats could fit if adjusted. I don’t want to purchase the Thule seats
Thanks for this video, this was precisely the video I was waiting on before purchasing.
Question: can you say what estimated top speed/range you are getting with a full sized human being sitting in the +1 seat? Any info helps! Thanks again for the video
I have only taken my wife who is about 115lbs and we’ve only done it a few times. For an adult on the back or any person, I really don’t recommend speed as being the priority especially in an urban environment. With load I’m usually under 20mph. I think class 3 is over rated for a cargo bike.
I have another video that highlights why not to get a cargo bike. It will be very fidgety with people on the back. Won’t handle the same on a long tail cargo bike.
Good video man. Hey what are those hand cuff looking things on the upper neck of the frame? Is that a bike lock I am assuming?
Nice synopsis, the missing extension cable is odd because the xp lite rack came with it, so the consistency is head scratching. How does that kickstand work, is it kick and go or is there a parking brake?
I later got an email from Lectric saying that a batch of e-bikes did not come with the extension cable and that it would be shipped out. I think they are just out of stock because it’s been several weeks.
The kickstand just kicks up. No parking brake.
I actually was thinking about the XPedition for something that I had planned. When I found out I COULDN'T use the saddle bags and the trailer at the same time, and Lectric didn't have any kind of plan to fix that issue, I moved on. That being said, no other cargo bike company will work with both trailer and bike option.
FWIW - EVERY RUclipsr is usually getting stuff they review for free, whether or not they disclose it, and you MUST take that with a grain of salt and assume, at least some of it, is overinflated BS... They're NOT going to jeopardize getting stuff for free just so they can be honest, other wise they wouldn't get free stuff to review.
Yup, exactly! That's why my channel has never been monetized since day one. I tried to keep all the ads out by not monetizing but even when not monetized, RUclips now still puts ads in. Annoying at best.
I buy everything myself except for a select few RC cars. But they reached out to me after I had already purchased from them.
It isn't hard to drill and tap new holes. I wonder if you could reconfigure the holes on the backside for your setup. I'm planning on tapping a couple sets of holes for extra water bottles.
Tell Levi that i have been waiting for 3 months and still no delivery and i have received comments from others with trouble getting the delivery of ebike. I paid and they had no problem taking the money. We have contacted them on 4 occasion after being told a deliver date but nothing came on those dates. Very frumstrating waiting around for a delivery only to get disappointed. I know now that it is in detroit which is only 1 hour away and we are only 10 minutes from main highway. I could go there and get it and be back in three hours. Why no delivery. Come on Levi get your shipping act together. This pisses me off
I have no connection to Levi unfortunately. He has no clue who I am. They missing hardware and extension cord for relocating the headlight as part of the front basket is finally being delivered. I got a ship date today but bought the bike well over a month ago. I totally get it.
good points! Lectric does not seem to thoroughly test their ebikes with different accessories and intended use-cases they advertise. For example, the more recent XPeak ebike was "certified to the highest E-MTB standards and certifications", however - lots of people had issues with the front basket, rear rack, the bike can't seem to handle any amount of additional cargo without wobbling and becoming unstable. Can't listen to anything Levi says hes just a marketing BS executive
Yeah, the accessories as you see dont' always play well together. Honestly though the EMTB shouldn't really be carrying racks if it is truly to be used as an EMTB. For storage, a different bike frame would be better suited.
I want this bike just for the passenger seat that seat is so nice 😂
Yeah there are a frustrating lack of quality instructions. And then REALLY need a 34 tooth rear sprocket. And really should have a brake light.
thanks for the video. Is that a ripracer with a rear seat in the background?
Yes! I have a video on that too on my channel. Seat is from Amazon, generic. I got the Rip Racer last November so didn’t get the $1,000 deal this past Labor Day.
liked, subbed and commented during the turn of the NEW year. and actually bought the Juiced HI ViZ yeller. Rip Racer then went back in so impressed with the packaging and the owners manual and simplicity of quality and PRICE! When I called they as in Juiced answered my call and I placed an order for the Dual batt. HS 2 Scrambler. The usual cadence is downright DANGEROUS if w/o the Torque sensor. I digress more later if provoked. Question or "one more thang" dual battery is a blender or mix of batts?? Sipping vs. Guzzling of power? Thanks in advance and excellent content!
The dual battery runs both at the same time which is the way to go. Otherwise, you’d just be hauling more weight that you may never use. The benefit of running both batteries at the same time is the reduction in voltage sag. You don’t get that benefit running one battery at a time. Electric bikes are like cars that get lower in horse power as it burns fuel. Running both batteries spreads the reduction in horsepower over a longer period of time making it much so terrible.

Curious on your thoughts on this bike now? Recommend for someone looking to use for taking kid to school and to local parks?
If range and load capacity is not a huge deal, I would recommend the Aventon Abound as I always have. It caps off at level two meaning it does not go faster than 28 miles an hour which I feel is more than adequate for most people. That is also the legal limit. Most people like the torque sensor that it has, but I do prefer the cadence sensor of the XPedition.
When doing research, you will always find people saying that torque sensor is superior to cadence sensor, but it is really a matter of preference. They operate very differently.
Best review I have seen and thank God I saw it before ordering that Plus 1 seat which is the google search I found you with.
Wow thanks. Glad you found the non monotized content useful.
Thats so cool how a person can sit that far back, it must feel weird steering with a passenger
Yes, it is a bit awkward particularly if it’s an adult In the back and no middle passenger.
I have your video on cheap accessories on deck but in case I forget - I have to know what that lock attachment is
It’s a 14 year old bracket that Masterlock no longer sells for their Street Cuffs. I had it on an old bike.
I wish they allowed the purchase of just 1 seat cushion. I have 2, but need 1 more for this setup, but Lectric only allows the purchase of 1 cushion.
I think you mean they only sell them in pairs. Yeah, Lectric doesn't promote the seating setup that I have.
Yes, I meant to say they don't allow the purchase of just one. Thanks for the tip on the hill-climbing though. I purchased that and will install soon, as the steep hill climbing, particularly with passengers/cargo, isn't sufficient. My 500w Priority Current mid-drive is a much better hill climber.
Can that rear seat be moved forward so that the rear passenger hold onto the barrow bar without leaning forward so muc?
I’ve seen someone do it but I’m not sure if it’s designed that way.
Sounds like you are very displeased with this bike??? If I were that displeased I would have returned the bike. Sounds like the general public, I don't like this object but I wouldn't return it or sell it???? I have purchased the 3.0 and the trike and would not want to return or sell either one. I am very pleased with Lectric. I agree many do not give all the information because they are not qualified engineers.
I’m fine with it for the price I paid but if it were much more, then yeah it wouldn’t be a good buy at all. Quality is definitely under that of Aventon for sure. Video is less about complaining and more so others know what to expect from this budget brand.
Do a review on the ripracer off road controller. I really enjoy your video
If I were to be spending over $200 on something now, it would be on FPV gear. Not looking to get the off-road controller now. That thing is about $280 after tax. Ouch.
They also don’t seem to be UL certified?
Correct. They are not. That’s probably how they keep their prices low. Haha. American company and no history of fires so I’m fairly confident it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t recommend charging overnight and unattended.
would this bike be great for just ,loading up camping stuff on the bike and just ride to a close by camping park?
Sure.
That is speciffically why I bought mine. For camping... Firewood, water, garbage.... etc. IT ABSOLUTELY RULES as a camping bike. Just be sure you have a quality lock system so it doesn't disappear on you while at the shower!
How does the bike act when your “Plus 1” rider leans over to look around the driver? I have a special needs daughter and looking for a way to get her out on a bike with me and I looking hard at this bike but concerned with her leaning. Great review
Thanks. The leaning will be a challenge for all bikes, but particularly ones with a higher seating position. The XPedition sits in 20’s so it’a pretty much as small and low as you can get outside of a Tern.
I have a video about why you may not want a cargo bike. The riding will for sure be more difficult.
There’s quite a difference for example when my two kids ride compared to only my wife in the back. The weight is about the same but the distribution does change things quite a bit.
It may not be in your budget of dollars and storage space but maybe a recumbent tandem tadpole trike? Lower center of gravity, no balance required and her pedaling is optional.
@@Funcentric Thank you for your input. When she was younger we had the Weego and she loved it, but was much smaller. Now a small adult around 115lbs I wondered how it might be if she was somehow on the same frame of the bike as I was. She’s unable to pedal but she would be able to place her feet on the running boards. I was looking at the Cargo bikes because of the low center of gravity and battery assist. I wonder if they would send us a demo to try out?????? Thanks again for all your help.
@@robgamber2607 they likely won’t send you a demo but if you can make your way to their headquarters, they’ll let you take it for a spin. Or if you’re close to San Francisco , I’ll let you two try mine out.

You’re welxome! Glad to help.
My main question is, "when's the next version releasing with new mods"?
Anyone who knows won’t be telling us. This only came out in few February so it’s barely been half a year.
I didn't like what I saw in the Lectric so went with a more expensive e-bike, the Aniioki A8 Pro Max for $1900 that has a great suspension unlike a hard tail
You mentioned handlebars - but not anything about them rattling loose every mile? Mine started at about 60 miles and I'm at 110 now and pissed. Hella unsafe.
Also, my kick stand mount almost fell off as it rattled loose as well.
Disappointed.
No, loose handlebars has not been an ongoing issue for users. I haven’t seen much of that and haven’t experienced that myself at all.
Thanks for bringing that up though. Lectric does warn consumers to tighten all bolts before riding. I know most of us don’t do that.
As for the center stand, I haven’t had issues with that either but it has been a big enough issue where it’s gotten quite a bit of attention in the Facebook groups. People have also complained of the structure of it and the frame itself.
Also feel free to join the Facebook group if you haven’t already and I’ll approve you. You can post there and get some real customer feedback apart from just mine. The crew there has valuable info to share.

@@Steviewonderwhy that depends on a lot of factors.
1. Experience with bikes
2. Expect to perform your own maintenance/repairs?
3. On road/off road?
4. Budget?
5. Resale value important? How long do you plan to keep it?
6. How secure will parking be?
7. Do you plan to share the bike at all with anyone?
Etc. There’s no best overall brand or bike. It’s really more about the match to the rider.
What’s the frame made out of? Aluminum ?
6061 or 6601 aluminum alloy. So not fully aluminum which is expected for a budget bike. Only higher end bikes will be made from full aluminum. The weight also suggests it is an alloy of sorts.
How come you can’t flip the cushion around so lectric logo is in the front?
The spacing. The clip on the bottom is not centered along the length of it. So if you try flipping it around, the clip won’t match up with the frame where it needs to go.
Interesting. I was able to fit it the other way around

Yeah I’m sure as more time goes on, more people will report issues they’ve found. Now that there XPedition has been out for 10 months, its getting more popular and I’d expect to see people making new videos.
How does this bike fit into your state laws? If 750W is the maximum permissible electric assist, how does this 1350W motor meet requirements to be ridden on other than private land? If you’re riding it on the road then it isn’t a bicycle and it must be registered and be street legal with working brake lights, etc. (at least in my state). I am seeing more and more folks riding these type of throttle only on the multi-use pathway I walk on and while I think it’s a wonderful and inexpensive way to commute, it is pushing into a very gray area of where and how it may be ridden.
Motor is 750w, not 1350w.
Bicycles are not regulated by the city. Most cities don’t regulate bicycles but they do mopeds. It’s mopeds that are generally defined as 30mph. Those do require registration, insurance, turn signals, and a license.
@@Funcentric thank you for clarifying that. I thought I’d read/heard that this bike had a motor exceeding 1300W. I knew that didn’t seem correct because I’ve been studying tadpole trikes and electric assist and knew 750W was the larges permitted here in the U.S. to be considered a bicycle. Europe allows 250W and Canada 500W, it seems.
@@feversol that is all correct. The 750w motor however does peak out at 1350w. The motor itself is a 750w motor however. All motors peak out above their labeled ratings.

Really are you going to do any serious hill climbing on 750watts weighing 425lbs? Bike plus 2 200lbs people.
100%! I hate that. Had to do my part in informing people of all the stuff that is so often hidden from the public. So annoying.
@@Funcentrici had similar thoughts till i heard funcentric was actually pushing the numbers you are speaking of, and seeing him sincerely testing the bike out (kid hauler and such)
Would you believe I weigh 675 lb and my girlfriend weighs 350 lb and I take her with as a passenger and we ride up the steepest Hills in San Francisco without pedaling going as fast as 20 mph....lol
Bro the whole first 3 mins is just tall person hate 😂
Haha!
Sissy try
?
Lol, " i had to sell it" no you didn't, you chose to, nobody forced you to sell anything unlike our current administration.
@@SterlingStudios I didn’t like it so I sold it, duh. I one ever claimed I was forced.
Totally disagree with everything in this video, I have it and it's a great bike. Easy comfortable ride, I had 2 kids in the back and if you know how to ride a bike it's easy. What this bike says it's for, is exactly what it does and this guy obviously has a separate issue with Lectric. Stop the BS homie.
These aren’t opinions I’m sharing. There’s nothing to disagree with. You can argue with facts until you are blue in the face. Good luck and don’t hurt yourself.
I don’t have issues with Lectric at all. There are just a lot of things people need to know before buying one so there aren’t any surprises.
Glad you got what you expected. Haha.
@@Funcentric Sorry Jackass, they do put hills in the test videos I watched them and have no problem getting up them. I've seen plenty of videos with cargo and carried my own, guess what no problem hauling at all. I went on rides with two 7 year old's in the back and had my wife ride in the back, again no problem at all. Look up the specs they are spot on with the ranges it gives. The seat is comfy and the perfect size for a comfortable ride and fits fine with all attachment's. The seat cushions go on easy and my 7 year old could figure it out sorry it took you all night LOL. There's plenty more but I'm bored already with this and you, glad you didn't get what you expected HAHA. Take care Jackass.
I cant take all the complaint and u promote alli express a terrible company that sells garbage wow
I’ve had great experiences with AliExpress since the times when Amazon was only selling books. I wouldn’t spend more than $150 there though on any one item. If you shop Amazon, you’ve buying AliExpress items. Resellers buy from there and mark it up 30-50%. Up to you though. AliExpress doesn’t sponsor anyone. That’s why there’s no push for them on RUclips. All you see is Banggood and Temu because they sponsor RUclipsrs.
keep “collecting data” at least until you have anything that makes it worth watching.
Not sure what you mean by that.
That seat is junk to start with.
Decent. No better nor worse than any other typical stock saddle.
Another clickbait video with "secret" information.
Not at all! It took ownership of this bike to know all the stuff I’ve shared. I’d had lengthy conversations with fellow owners to gather this.
What exactly were you expecting the video or contain that you felted cheated and missed?
Would you believe I weigh 675 lb and my girlfriend weighs 350 lb and I take her with as a passenger on my Xpedition and we ride up the steepest Hills in San Francisco without pedaling going as fast as 20 mph....lol
I don’t believe it
The front of the bike is too light when carrying a 145lbs passenger
BOOOOOORINNNNGGGG🙄
What would you rather have heard/seen? If you hate it so much, don't forget to give the video a thumbs down.
hahaha any ALGO is good ALGO!@@Funcentric
