Lets all appreciate the fact that Geddy and Alex are amazing people and let their friends, Les and Larry, use their personal dual necks, rickenbacker’s and other pieces of gear! This is more than just a tribute, this is a true Farewell to King Braino!
That's pretty beautiful...I'm not crying, you are.
Is that true? They loaned them their instruments? Just wow!
Damn
Thats cool
Les had his made by Rickenbacker. They contacted him and offered. Les mentioned it at the Vancouver show Q and A.
Awesome!
It must have been really cool for Rush to finally get a chance to see Rush.
Good point 😊
A very classy cover. They didn't showboat. They kept the stage relatively dark, keeping the focus on the music instead of themselves. Clearly done with the utmost respect for Rush.
This is the highest form of respect for the Trio. This is a masterpiece..well like the original. Incredible.
Any band that can do a cover of Xanadu or anything Rush, deserves kudos. Well done, Primus!
Rush did a cover of Xanadu?
@@TheWangspangler I cant tell if you're joking or not
Well, think about it, it really doesn't need much, Rush did it in the 70s ELO did it in the 80s
Just shows how good primus is musically. No one would dare to play this unless they were confident. Well done.
With as much practice as these guys probably did for this moment it’s pretty safe to say they killed it.
I read that Les was actually nervous for Geddy to see his performance. But since so much of Primus' material is 130+ BPM, probably nice for them to get to slow down.
And they played this in front of Alex and Geddy of Rush who were there to witness it.
Very impressive performance, guitar tones are bang on, however Geddy's voice his missing and the percussion is a bit off (props though for including the glockenspiel) but overall huge kudos!
Larry is genuinely underrated. They’re all stupid talented musicians
I met Tim Alexander way back when Primus were playing dingy clubs. The first thing I said to him was "You're a Neil Peart fan huh?" I could just tell by how he played. He smiled and said "of course!" A few years later Primus was opening for Rush. This is a nice tribute to a great band from true fans.
How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?
2 .....one to change the bulb, the other to tell him how much better Niel Pert would have done it.
I saw two RUSH concerts back in March of 1994 at the Rosemont Horizon in North Suburban Rosemont Illinois. Primus opened for them in both shows. The bad part was, for the first show, Primus was awful. They played for about twenty minutes, and were just terrible. Once they started to play Master of Puppets by Metalica, they were literally being booed off the stage. It was just a bad night for Less Claypool and company. The nice part of this story was, the next night Primus came onto the stage, and put on one hell of a performance, and were given a standing ovation. And they went on, to do pretty good for themselves. But, that one terrible performance back in March 1994, will live in my memory, as one awful Primus performance...
@@davidgordon702 Wow! I'm glad they were able to recover the next night!
I use to go to Tim’s house in AZ for the kiddies Bday parties. Our sons are the same age. Great man, great drummer! You can still find some old major lingo RUclipss with him in the band. After he left down hill for those guys. Impossible to replace herb.
Tim is a WITCH on the drums, just a ripper LEGEND.
I bet Getty and Alex were impressed. And neal peart would be smiling RIP Professor. You're so missed 😢😊
It’s very hard to be subjective when knowing that Rush will never duplicated for the rest of musical
history… it takes balls of brass to even attempt this, so I tip my hat
to Primus. Closest to what I’ve heard so far from other bands that do these tributes. Rest easy, Professor…
YYNOT has this beat. It takes a womans voice to get into the Geddy zone. And musically, they crush it.
But, I'm glad that bands are helping us deal with our collective loss. I'll probably never go to another concert, unless a good rush cover band comes around.
@@jasonlacroix6083 Lotus Land
I was thinking the same thing. I've seen Primus live a few times. Wish I could of seen this one with my own two eyes. I would love to hear Primus cover 2112 now.. I'd think it would be amazing. I can hear Les screaming The Temple of Syrinx in my head already. \m/
@@RushfanUK hey, hey, hey! Like my fellow Rushians would shout during our anthem, 2112.
If they're playing Rush, I love 'em! Lotus Land does them justice. Primus does too. I've just taken a shine to this woman's voice that can deliver that high pitched shrill we know so well. She's cute too!
We all have impeccable taste, I know that! So, Hold the Red Star Proudly High in Hand!
R I P Mr. Peart 💕
@@jasonlacroix6083 These guys aren't some tribute band, they are Primus, and they do a beautiful job paying tribute to their friends. Let's see YYNOT do 75 minutes of their original stuff, and then play an entire Rush album, and do another 45 minutes of mind blowing originals.
Les Claypool continues to age like a fine wine
He also produces his Purple Pachyderm fine wine in Russian River Valley, CA.
@@chucku00 HELL YES! I’m about to buy a couple bottles. 1 as a gift and 1 for daddy😹😹😹
If you closed your eyes and didn't know any better, until you heard the vocals, you would think it was Rush....As a longtime Rush fan, this is phenomenal.
That is the most ridiculous statement I think I have ever read.
Not even close, dude.
Damn i miss Neil.😪 Damn i miss Rush.😪Damn getting old sucks ! Cheers to all the old school rockers out there.😁
🤘😎LONG LIVE ROCK Baby‼️
🍻 james!
Yeah I hate getting old. I try to keep fit. It slows it - it really does. Don't drink, don't smoke, pretty boring but I can't think of a worse thing than going into age care where they take all your money, feed you stodge on $4 a day and deprive you of utterly everything while they have free access to your bank balance.
My friend who isn’t a big fan of rush said he almost fell asleep during Xanadu. The only way I can imagine falling asleep is if you passed out from your face being melted off!!! Kickass show and great recording!
I can understand your friend saying he was ready to fall asleep because this is boring, and long winded.
Your friend might be happier at a Maroon 5 concert:) Not everyone ‘gets’ Rush. Most of them are women like my wife, who could not understand an 11 minute long song :)
Most Primus fans are expecting everything to be at 130+ BPM.
@@freesoul3371
Not as boring and long winded as you I'll bet.
@@freesoul3371 GO BACK TO YOUR BUSH/CREED/LIMP BIZKIT LIFE!
Not a big Primus fan but a GREAT cover! You don't just jump out there and decide to cover RUSH and especially Xanadu unless you work hard at it. 1 because it's difficult and 2 because their fans are RABID and defend them to the end. I will say, very well done gents! Thank you to all their fans and to us old RUSH guys! We'll done and thanks for keeping their legacy alive!
Covering a Rush song isn't easy. Covering Xanadu is even tougher. Covering it live is legendary.
Primus has officially dined on honeydew 😜🤣 Well done!
Did they walk the caves of ice
@@michaelpico6842 No! but they drank the milk of paradise!!!!
I remember when Primus was an up and coming band, and Rush took them on tour with them.
The first time that I saw Primus live was when they opened for Rush on the Roll the Bones tour about 30 years ago. A great tribute from band to band.
Same here! A great tour!
Herb is ON. Damn!
I can't believe they really took this on. Even Geddy and Alex said they're crazy ❤️💪💪💪
Having played it with my tribute I can tell you other Rush tunes are much harder to pull off! But they did great.
@@NaturalScienceRushTribute Do you kill your guitar player's rig during "The Trees"?
If not, you aren't really accurate, lol.
Very classy 3 musician cover.i was fortunate to see RUSH live about 25 times. RIP Neil...
Let's raise a toast to two of the greatest bassist-vocalists in the game!
How about 6 of the greatest musicians of all time?
@@jsullivan2112word
Tim is one of the greatest drummers, well done!
*AMEN!* 🤘
I love it, when other bands play tributes to Rush. It's the ultimate compliment!
I love Primus, and to see them, even in a recording, pay such careful and loving homage to such a difficult piece of music, I find to be very moving. To even try, is just beautiful. I do wish I could help with the vocals. :D
Musically, this is the closest any band has gotten to Rush. I've seen the boys over 15 times over the last three decades, and Primus killed it. The only thing off is the vocals, but there is no way ANYONE is replicating Geddy. I feel like Les made the right to call to do his own thing. Altho he actually sounds great on Xanadu. Like his voice actually fits the groove really well.
With all due respect this is not the closest any band has gotten to Rush. My little tribute band sounds more like Rush than Primus does. There are a lot of great Rush tributes out there who sound as close or closer. But it’s Primus so people will fawn…
Still a nice tribute.
Couldn't agree with you more@@NaturalScienceRushTribute
Tim Alexander my man! Rocking it hard for many decades !
Tim the Herb Alexander was definitely my fav drummer for Primus.
Class act. How many bands can cover this? Is it perfect? No. Is it respectful, artistic, quality and highly listenable? Absolutely!
Love primus, and this was a great cover. No one will ever scream with that amazing geddy voice and soul in this song.
Well done. Only bands that have that talent would attempt. That was a tribute done with respect and appreciation.
It's great that it makes me appreciate Rush even more
When you think about it, Primus is sort of our generation's Rush. Power trio, prodigious bass player frontman, eccentric, innovative guitar player, inordinately talented and technical drummer who loves lots of gear, it's clear these guys got a lot of inspiration from the Kings.
If Alex & Geddy ever do any shows live again, I sure hope that they borrow Tim as their drummer.
I think they ll do it someday. Of course they will not use Rush in respect to Neil, the will call themselves some weird name invented by Alex (of course !!!)
@@calito44 Absolutely!!!
As I watched a couple rush covers all the drummers were great but Tim Alexander is the closest to neil
I was thinking Terry Bozzio... But Terry is 70. Can he still kick the shit out of the drums?
Or Danny Carey. Both are drum gods and inspired by Neil to their very core
What a PHENOMENAL cover of a RUSH CLASSIC....
Les Claypool did Geddy Lee proud playing and singing this song..... AWESOME JOB GUYS
Great tribute, double neck guitar / bass and all. Great crowd as well. Well done.
Those were *actually* Alex and Geddy's instruments borrowed to Les and Ler too 😋
Goosebumps even watching this video... if I was at that show, I would have melted and trancended to a higher plain of exsistance. Killer tribute, love Primus and Rush 👊🧡👍
Rush is the greatest band ever!
PEART IS SMILING! WELL DONE!
"A FAREWELL TO KINGS" imo is such an overlooked album. Primus did this tune supreme justice; it is incredible cover in fact.
I always consider it my #1 favorite Rush album and I’m a huge fan!!
I saw Primus when they opened for Rush in Vancouver in the 90's. I didn't know them, but was an instant fan, 6th row seats, Larry had super long hair (straightened) and I couldn't see his face LOL, one of the tightest bands I've ever seen!!
Omg…… beautiful.. Primus playing one of my all time favorite songs from my all time favorite band . God bless them keeping the magic alive…
I remember seeing Primus back in the early 90’s. When they were on the Lollapalooza in 1993, Alice In Chains were the headliner, but Perry Farrel decided that it should be a co-headliner tour, with Primus and Alice In Chains both headliners. I was there. This band has forever been an open tribute to Rush. Right down to Claypool’s and Alexander’s sound. It was part of the reason I loved them so much. They are like the quirkier, jokester version of Rush. Great cover. Would expect no less.👊🏽😊
Haha what? Did Perry come out of nowhere and make that decision or was Jane's Addiction also playing? Or are you confusing him with Layne Staley?
My favorite band is Rush. This sounds amazing, great job Primus.
have seen Rush in Concert 5 times..
This group , this song?
Speechless.😮
Just hearing the crowd sing Xanadu together gives me chills. Wish I could've been there
anyone else with sweet tears of joy watching this also ??? i miss them so much
My favorite track by Favorite Band RUSH
Great cover especially on drums and guitar.I guess I can't blame Les for not attempting Geddy's high pitched vocals!
Don't forget the bass
this is probably the prettiest piece of music this band will ever play
These Primus fans have no idea how great this is or what they're listening to.
The sacred River Alph! This makes me want to start smoking again.
Thanks for sharing😎
Do it! :)
Watching him play bass you know damn good and well he memorized The entire A Farewell to Kings album including Xanadu andCygnus X1 within one week after it’s released seriously.
Beautiful, Neil would be proud.
Excellent cover, gave me goosebumps but I still miss RUSH 😢
loved this, but it brought a tear too my eye
RIP Neil. I think he would love this!
It’s a brave band that dares to take on some Rush, especially this song. Props to them.
I got to watch this live, one of the craziest performances I’ve seen
Retired professional drummer here of 40+ years, cut my teeth on RUSH (who didn't right?) But it is so awesome to see extremely proficient and prolific professional musicians play a RUSH tune and come about 93% close to the original recording....R.I.P. RUSH....you can try but it don't fly. FACT.
I saw Primus open for RUSH on two different tours: first Roll the Bones and then Counterparts! In each case: Primus opened then RUSH and the encore was Primus/RUSH usually doing closer to the heart, in the mood/what your doing! ALWAYS EPIC!!! Also saw Primus on LOLLAPOLOOZA 93 with Alice In Chains!
I saw them in NYC on this tour and it was sick!Totally doing justice to there idols!!!
Fantastic
Rush foreverrrrrrr
👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
TRULY A MAGICAL MUSICAL MOMENT FOR OUR UNIVERSE ❤
The song that got me into Rush as a 12 year old!
Damn, right freaking on, primus nailed it
Loved it! Good friends tributing a milestone. I wouldn’t expect anything less.
Definitely one of Rushes best songs🤘
Seen Rush on the Farewell to Kings tour in March 1978. This is like a time warp for me.
Good news travels slowly....Hope some of my Auggie Peeps got to enjoy this fine performance.....Claypool covering Geddy....Damnitman!!!
I saw Primus open for RUSH in 1994, and I wasn't impressed with them and I've never been a fan. But this is truly an amazing performance but three incredibly talented musicians! Thank you!
The tempo that Rush played this song at is incredible. Even a well seasoned group such as Primus slows it down, just to be sure.... Great feelings.
what a cover.. i love it. true display of appreciation for Rush
Oh man! These guys are awesome! This is one of the best Rush covers I've ever seen. I'm definitely going to check out their music. Very well done and very well played!
I saw the show in Vancouver BC Canada here...
Personally I think this is the most epic Cover ever done.
I never thought I'd see the day😎💯
Absolutely Amazing!!!
Best Rush tribute band ever 😁
It’s ok but NOT the best Rush cover band! Just my opinion- not hating on anything
You haven’t seen all of them I assume?
@@joedecker3900 of course not! But I have seen two MUCH betterRush tribute bands. And other bands who were not Rush tribute bands that did a better job ( IMO ) on Rush songs. YYNOT comes to mind. The music on this particular song was okay- it was slow, and drums were muddy, guitar solos were sloppy and uninspired. Vocals were terrible. It sounded like a bad karaoke night.
However, I will admit that I wasn’t there and the recording wasn’t professional so that could take away from the actual sound of the video. Plus, I’m sure that if one was there just the pure enjoyment from live music inspires great feelings. That said, all I have to go on is this recording- 5/10
Rush can only do Rush justice
@@joedecker3900 amen brother!

This cover is legit! Incredible tribute
Absolutely beautiful and sonically blissful NP would be proud Mr Claypool I am sure as well as the rest of the band. Bravo!

Incredible cover! Awesome tribute! 🔥👍🔥👍🔥
Great tribute! Awesome performance
Thanks for posting! I wanted so bad to go to this show!! Amazing
Awesome!
Going to go see this show with my son , can’t wait!
Listening to this and other RUSH songs such as ‘La Villa Strangiato’ tend to remind me of past Legend of Zelda games.
Anyone else?
A nice tribute to the great Rush 👍 🇬🇧❤🇨🇦
This almost made me cry,.......they sound just like the album version!
Excellent quality. Thank you
Somehow, I think Geddy and Alex smirked, and then smiled
Saw them in April in Iowa. Words escape me. 😎 That good!!
