In 2018 I graduated and I wrote my senior year essay about Neil and RUSH. They'll definitely be studied as genuine english material in no more than 40 years.
Oh my God... whew... this is amazing. Someone, somewhere, has got to convince a full orchestra to perform this. It would be completely glorious. Bravo Bravo Bravo!
I don't know why it took RUclips 6 years to recommend this video to me, but I'm very glad it did. That was a very special arrangement and fantastic performance.
I have always been extremely impressed with this song; however, hearing it converted into an orchestration ensemble brought out the impressive classical composition within this rock classic.
They did a very good interpretation of it, but it just goes to show how intricate and complex Rush's music is. Xanadu is a classic, and I would regard the live Exit Stage Left version as the best live performance of any song by any band ever! Sixteen people trying to replicate what three people did live, and nobody attempting the horsing around and bumping into each other like Alex and Geddy casually did as they played
This rendition is really beautiful. It also gives you an appreciation for what the three members of Rush were able to do when you see 14 musicians covering a piece of their music.
It took sixteen musicians to replicate the power and majesty of three , proving that RUSH IS and Was the biggest little orchestra the world has ever known
Funny - I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing... Takes 16 players (and a conductor, let's not forget) to do what three guys from Canada did... :) I wonder if the audience had any clue what it was they were hearing? (Other than great music, I mean)
The fact that this orchestra was able to separate Neil Peart's part into individual percussion parts and get a violin to attempt to mimic a synthesizer is amazing! Period. Also, Lifeson's guitar work into separate parts and NOT be cumbersome...stunning!!! Yes, it's kind of elevator musicish but that's to be expected. Hats off to you for being this musically risky!
A farewell to kings was the first RUSH album I had. Found it in my big brothers collection. Had a really crappy record player. Got a good (kenwood) system for Xmas in 1980. First time I listened to Xanadu, actually looked out my bedroom window to try and find the chirping birds. (edit) Great cover, I really enjoyed this.
R.I.P. Mestre...

Is everyone else listening to this, singing the lyrics as the song plays? "To find the sacred river Alph To walk the caves of ice Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the milk of paradise, oh, paradise..." Love it! To think that UFO used to make fun of Neil's Lyrics when they toured together. They use to hold up a sign below the stage when Rush played Xanadu. The sign had "I will dine on honey dew, and drink the milk of paradise" as a taunt to tell Rush they took themselves too seriously. I think they are some of the best Rock lyrics ever written and one of the reasons why I loved Rush. Who else in rock wrote great tunes about Kubla Khan or Bytor and the Snowdog? Ha!
Brazuca tocando Rush, orquestra ainda? Long live Rush!
Arrangement and interpretation par excellence, with notably keen use of restrained guitar; but I think extra special kudos are due the drummer who made very effective use of a small kit for Peart's wide palette of sounds.
He basically brought a Ringo kit to a Peart party, and it worked. I was amazed. Great arrangement too, I think the guitar was more effective this way for this group.
To those who say that rock is not "real" music...that classical is the only true musical form...you need to see this. I do think a full orchestra would have been even better, but this arrangement proves that Rush's music translates well into classical. And think what a coloratura soprano could do with Geddy's vocals!
My god, what a performance! You guys deserve a huge congratulations for bringing this gem for us here in youtube. I hope this video can reach millions of Rush fans throughout the world. Bravo!!
Great rendition. Love to watch the conductor have to keep changing all the time signatures. Also, just shows you it takes about 15 people to create what 3 guys could do live on stage, and this orchestra isn't even singing!!! Bravo!
The piece had me actually sobbing so deeply,I haven't done so like that since my beloved mother passed away on mother's day 2017.It moved me so very deeply being a RUSH fan since April 1et of 1976 .thank you so much for your honor to Xanadu, by RUSH,A Most Brilliant JobWell Done!!!! Bravo!!!
And 400 years from now they'll still be listening to Bach, Chopin, Mozart, and of course, Rush.
Love that comment. I put rush over all of them!!
@@johnhancock9249 All classical was once "pop" music. It's only the passage of time that gives it the illusion of superiority.
In 2018 I graduated and I wrote my senior year essay about Neil and RUSH. They'll definitely be studied as genuine english material in no more than 40 years.
Biltor, sen misin?!
In 400 years some archeologist will be excavating a late 20th century home and will come across circular disc of vinyl and they’ll be like, WTF?
Conductor: next we'll be playing La Villa Strangiato
Percussionist : oh come on😫
This show you how much respect Rush has in the music world. This is absolutely fantastic. Well done.
I've never seen Rush arranged for orchestra until today and my life is better for it.
Rush always said they were the world’s smallest orchestra, this proves it. Well done 👍
Best orchestration project ever! I have dined on honeydew!
This is a testament to what great composers Geddy, Neil and Alex were.
You know that you have achieved composer immortality when an orchestra performs your work.
Oh my God... whew... this is amazing. Someone, somewhere, has got to convince a full orchestra to perform this. It would be completely glorious. Bravo Bravo Bravo!

Took them 8 years for me! Lol
9!
Tell me about it !!!! - just now LOL !!!! - Huge RUSH fan !!!!!
I found it on Facebook - June 5-2024. RUclips didn't recommend it to me yet, even though I watch tons of Rush videos on it. Ha!
Omg, this brings tears to my eyes
I have always been extremely impressed with this song; however, hearing it converted into an orchestration ensemble brought out the impressive classical composition within this rock classic.
FANFUCKINTASTIC!!!!!! You GUYS ROCKED THE SHIT OUTTA XANADU!!!! Thanks!!!! Rush would be proud of Guys!!!

When symphonies play your music
It’s good
And RUSH recorded Xanadu in 1 take......

3 powerful talented guys that will rock forever
It was a gutsy move to include an electric guitar in this arrangement, and to play Alex Lifeson's solo note for note.
Wasn’t note for note nice try though
To seek the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
To break my fast on honey dew
And drink the milk of paradise
Life in the 80's felt like Xanadu was calling us...
Shivers. This is brilliant an amazing arrangement. I have a tear.

Alimento pra alma.
First thought at 0:41 - "He's going to need a bigger drum kit". But, hey, these guys and gals did a good job with what they had. Total thumbs up.
I have always wanted to hear an orchestra play Rush let alone one of my all time favourite songs Xanadu. Made my night-year!

What a wonderful version of a great song! Always thought Xanadu was a classical rock song and the arrangement by the orchestra was superb!👍
I really do hope Geddy and Alex have heard this..
And Neil! It’s six years old.
thanks for that. I never noticed.
Agreed, Geoffrey !!
Great tribute of a great song from a great band! Bravo!
Salutes and respect to any band brave enough to tackle Rush. Props and hugs for doing it well.
Wonderfully done by a very talented ensemble. A classical tribute to one of Rush's greatest compositions, I loved it !
Fantastico! Tears streaming down my face!
When the harp started playing, that's when I fell in love with this rendition!!!

Wow, that was brilliant. Loved Rush for 40 years, and really enjoyed this amazing version.

Stunning. Tears in my eyes. It brings in to clarity the genius of Rush.
Perhaps one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed, put together, created, wrote, by any musician of any genre, EVER.

Adorei!
