- La Villa Strangiato II - Alex Lifeson & Geddy Lee
For Marimba, Vibraphone and Glockenspiel
Arr. Philipe Davis
Marimba: Carolina Raany
Vibraphone and Glockenspiel: Kleber Tertuliano
Universidade de São Paulo, campus Ribeirão Preto
Junho 2015 - Видеоклипы
This instrumental solidifies just how complex Rush music is. To be able to entertain diehard Rush fans with this is quite a feat
YES I love RUSH. But check this out. ruclips.net/video/YfDqR4fqIWE/видео.html
Outstanding on so many levels. The Professor would approve.
Someone still cutting onions in here.
@@Torgo1969 I noticed that as well. Damn onions have my eyes all watery!
Indeed he would. 🥁🇺🇸
Can you pictures Rush on vacation in the Islands and sitting at a restaurant and the band starts playing this. nice work
Haha yes, that would be funny. Only thing is that it would be weird for them to go on holidays together :)
@Shallex because, don't people go on vacation to get away from their co-workers? :)
Lol!! Made my day! Hilarious mental picture of Geddy and Alex in bathing suits, surprised look on face...Lmao..rotfl...
That would be so awesome. This is so beautiful..
Then Christopher Walken approaches the vacationing trio, and says, "Hey, nice song. But it seems like it could use some. . ."
Additional information: That was recorded in June 2015 at the Universidade de São Paulo, campus Ribeirão Preto. The track was arranged by Philipe Davis. Carolina Raany is playing marimba, while Kleber Tertuliano is on the vibes and glockenspiel.
Man, musicians who actually study can do amazing things. :)
Even musicians who don't study can do amazing things.
FARfuckingOUT❣🎶🎵🎶
🤘😎🎵🎶🎵
three high school drop outs wrote it
That was in the description
Thanks for the detail. This is simply outstanding.
My brain was filling in Neil’s drum parts. Bravo!
Exactly. I was doing Neil's part along with them. Simply awesome.
Halfway through, I paused it so I could run up stairs, get on my kit and play along 🤣 this was fantastic!
You too huh. It’s like a reflex
Ditto...
Yes, me too!!
I think Geddy and Alex should use this as their doorbell chime....
shoot! If I had a doorbell, it would be my chime -- and I mean the whole song! : )
They probably do.
I wouldn't answer the door til it had finished 😂
It would take them 9 minutes to answer the door ;-)
What about hemispheres?
I don't know how I found this, but GOD am I so glad that I did. So insanely well done I can't even begin to articulate it. I know Neil and the whole group would be so proud. Enjoyed every second of this!
i have no words -- just tears of joy and deep deep deep appreciation!!! RIP Neil. Rush Forever!
Okay. It’s not just me. Damn Onions!!!
RUSH FOREVEEERRR
🌞⭐✨
Only true Rush fans watched the video 'til the end of it
I did! (Thanks for sharing)
Eng202 I can't just stop listening!!!!!!!
you betcha
that was awesome, only heard one missed note - very impressive
the end is the best part!
@@michaeljohnson773 And you saw her smiling right after she missed it. Pretty awesome performance.
It is unacceptable that I can only like this once.
I liked it for you :)
You can like it multiple times but to be effective you have to hit the thumbs up an odd number of times.
John DiFrancesco Not at all brother, I'm with you.✌️
i liked it for both of us, but that means we only get half a like each, which is twice as unacceptable, so I suppose that cancels it out, not sure
I also have just liked.it for you.👍
This shows what a masterpiece of musical creativity La Villa is. How you produce this is simply breathtaking.
You guys deserve a Nobel Prize for this! Honestly, I can't remember being so delighted with anything on RUclips, ever.
Picking this song to learn says alot about you two. Thank you for breathing
This is absolute proof that Rush is one of the best bands of all time and that their music touched the hearts of their fans. Rush has one of the best fan bases of all time.
So much passion put in this clip. Amazing! I hope the boys have seen this! Cheers!
I listened to the whole thing, because Rush is the best band EVER!
Although, you missed the opportunity to dress as wizards & priests from Syrinx.
The flowing robes, the grace, etc.
I love whenever this video pops up in my feed. Always have to watch it, can't help but play conductor. Good times.
I hope Maestro Peart was able to watch this before his passing.
From Canada to South America, Rush were incredible Ambassadors of Canadian Music!
This was gobsmackingly good; I can only imagine how long it took for them to get this arrangement under their belts...
Thanks for posting!
115 dislikes. Obviously not musicians. Not that you have to be one to appreciate what is happening here, but there was obviously a lot of work that went into that arrangement with multi- mallet percussion. Sometimes I wonder if these same people who thumb down videos ever spend large amounts of time doing something creative with the intent of entertaining people and inspiring them, or if they are like Julius Caesar laying on pillows eating grapes with a general sense of boredom?
Glockenspiel haters are gonna hate unfortunately
You're confusing Caesar with Nero. Caesar was a badass general.
Undoubtedly the coolest thing on RUclips is this performance of a masterpiece ! Kudos !
Finally - RUclips makes sense.
Big Rush fan and I absolutely loved this!! Well done the both of you!
ditto ! ;-)
Big Rush fan here too and I can't believe how good they are, and only 2 people.
ever see the young Asian girl do YYZ on the keyboard?? she is awesome too /watch?v=4XsYuHbXZUk
Love this interperation of this Rush classic. Just shows how genious musicians these three were.
I've just fallen in love with Carolina Raany!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suddenly i feel joy and hope again, for the Human race.
Absolutely brilliant! In my opinion, La Villa Strangiato is one of the best pieces of music to come out humanity. Your rendition blew me away.
Excellent exercise in self indulgence in memory of the percussion master Neil Peart. RIP 🥺🥁
I can honestly say that I have never hear this tune done this way. One of my most favorite Rush tunes ever. Good show :)
I've drummed since I was 14, probably ~9,000 hours, 60% playing along to Neil Peart. This song is the holy grail of rock percussion, in my opinion -- and I was ready to dislike this rendition as precious. At 0:41, my cynicism melted, I sat back, smiled and floated away on the sound. Well done, Philipe, Carolina and Kleber.
MrGordonGartrelle only special audience listen to special musicians with GOD given talent!!!!!
Same here and I remember covering Overture/Temples and having a blast playing it when I was 18. Neil was my idol as a drummer and the band my all time favourite. It too put a smile on this ol' guy's face! Whadday think next, Xanadu?Cheers!
Gordon? God love ya Sir! 🤗😎👍🏻🙌🏻🌞✨
Same story for me trying to drum along to the original song and learn it.
Same same.👍👍
Needs more cowbell - but seriously, huge RUSH fan, awesome and beautiful rendition.
🤣 that's it, I'll be in contact with Christopher Walken about this! 😅
Well... I'm a grown man... and still can't figure why I cry every time I see this video...
dude i am here saying the same thing!
This wins the internet. It's over.
You know you are legends when a complex piece you composed is given a classical arrangement treatment, extensively studied and analysed for nearly 4 decades after its composition (and will continue to be given that kinda treatment). Long live rush and rush fans.
RIP professor. 💔💔💔
This is just so weird and wonderful.
It's not weird, it's great.
More talent in these 2 people than %99 of so-called "entertainers"!!!
At 4:52 I “mouthed” the drum fills... did you?
✌️😊✌️❤️🎶
Yes!
That was simply fantastic! I smiled all the way through. Rush would absolutely love this.
Just stumbled over this video. Magnificient !!
Somehow it is filling my eyes with tears...
People like you need to be banned from commenting
Banned from commenting? Spoken like a true Canadian PC socialist.
I'm 100% (conservative) born and raised in the United States, but when my 7 year old comes to me and asks what "And I am filling your mouth with something else." and "Your mom's box?" means ? after innocently browsing some (supposedly safe) music related videos , it does make you wish foul language and disgusting innuendo was strictly dealt with on RUclips !!
I'm conservative as well, but have a thing for personal freedoms, as long as they don't physically hurt anyone else. He'll learn this language at some point. He'll also make a decision as to whether or not he wishes to adopt it for himself or not. Is he really freely browsing the internet at the age of 7? I hope not. Restrict his access until he's older. YT has better things to do with their time than to police every thread for blue language and personal insults.
I'm all for personal freedoms too and no he's not freely browsing the net, just listening to some music videos in the same room with me but briefly strayed into the comment section where low and behold a couple weak minds are expressing themselves ..I know he will come across this stuff eventually but it's still uncalled for on a post like this..It's been posted almost a year and only has 254 comments , seems that the "poster" could easily clean it up and keep it clean ..
Never turn your back on a marimba
Very clever!
The Ghost of the vibraphone
In Africa, the saying goes 'In the bush, an elephant can kill you, a
leopard can kill you, and a black marimba can kill you. But only with the
marimba is death sure.' Hence its handle, 'Death Incarnate.'
I like apples!
Absolutely Outstanding! Loved it! RIP Professor.
I would say that it's missing some percussion, but that would just be wrong. Great job on this.
+Scott Thornton Both of those instruments are percussion. Duh.
John Getz Seriously, dude? Methinks your sense of humor needs some fine tuning.
+Scott Thornton what you did there, i saw it.
It's missing some fat ass geddy Lee bass gvoves and some dynamic lifeson shredding...
@@johngetz2043 r/whoooosh
Spectacular arrangement! I now hear "Villa" in a whole new way. I even love the beautiful ringing silence where our minds get to fill in the drum solos.
Beautiful Percussion ensemble ! I really can't believe someone could actually put a thumbs down on this video, That just shows how some people have no respect for great sounds.
Perfect phrasing, excellent timing - Lee & Lifeson would be proud !
Thank you for posting.
Awesome rendition of La Villa Strangiato. Lee, Lifeson & Peart would be proud.
Especially I sense Neil would be proud of the percussion skills. He always considered himself to be a percussionist, and this version shows the skill required to be such!
I was waiting for someone to walk in through that door…
This is so a awesome. In my head I am taken back to the last time I heard this played live, it was on the Time Machine tour.
Dirk, Lerxst & Pratt would approve.
Side note: Neil had a xylophone in his mountain home in Quebec.
Love the alternative sounds...brilliant!
While Geddy and Alex wrote the music to nearly all the Rush songs including the instrumentals, La Villa Strangiato was actually written by Geddy, Alex, and Neil Peart. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemispheres_(Rush_album)
Absolutely Awesome!!!
Magnificent! Great interpretation of a masterpiece! I hope Ged and Alex have heard this. I'm positive that the Professor would approve. Bravo!
Prime example of the power of music
Parabéns à dupla. Excelente escolha da música.
How is it that I've gone all these years without knowing this existed? Phenomenal!!! They are both great musicians!! And her double mallet work is on point!
Things are looking kinda bleak lately…thanks for putting a smile on my face! What a beautiful arrangement! 😊
The professor would, I’m sure, approve..
Great work, great timing and great interpretation. 👌👌👌👌😊
Needs more Cowbell !!! Lol
No Really this was super cool and innovative !! : D
How can anyone watch this and not smile from ear to ear?
Wow! Laughing out loud in delight watching/listening to this arrangement. Thanks for doing this, must have taken a lot of time.
You know you love Rush if you've made it here. Fantastic works guys!! Masterfully done!
Very cool - my favorite Alex Lifeson guitar solo of all time start at 3:12 doesn’t really translate imo with his dynamics phrasing and crescendo buildup to vibes but still very nice tribute imo. Different instrument limitations nothing do w talent of this.
What an eye opening performance of a rock and roll masterpiece! A whole new perspective. Thank you!
Just goes to show....
RUSH WILL ALWAYS GO ON!!!!!
"I liketh a band that playeth the oldies." -- Petruccio
Just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ long live the RUSH
Speaks to the depth, innovation, complexity and virtuosity of Rush. They are a part of modern classical music.
Anyone know how she carries that around from gig to gig?
Don't you just LOVE youtube right about now.
The guitar doesn't take up as much room......
This arrangement of one of my favorites brought me to tears. Loved the sequence beginning at 4:20. Love how they give a pause for the snare fills, almost as to give a nod...RIP, Professor
That theme, which resurfaces at 6:33 and 7:38, was adapted from Powerhouse by Raymond Scott, which featured in several classic Warner Brothers cartoons with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
@@bryack -
Thx for the info!
It makes perfect sense Rush would know Scott - his work was also ahead of its time.
holy shit you guys..... that was fantastic.... that.... the time and energy that went into that..... kudos my friends... take a fuckin bow.... THAT WAS AWSOME!!!!! peace.. p. s. i just subbed.... :)
Very interesting.
im literally brough to tears watching this
Had a massive smile on my face throughout. Musicians!
I'm not looking down on this, I'm trying to scrape my jaw off the floor.
😯😮☺️😁😃😄😎
very cool, but maybe could have added an Alex Lifeson La Villa Strangiato rant? but still very cool!!
Wow, I really hope Rush has seen this video
Everybody has said everything! Well done!
Awesome Awesome Awesome!!! You’re Awesome 👏👏👏😍
You guys are so good you make me sick! Beautiful arrangement! You rock!!!
That was freakin awesome. great job!!!
shows just how elaborate Rush writing and performing really is, remember the guitar is on top with an electric lead that is like no other piece of written work , the song is meant to be abstract and almost in reverse or unorthadox order and structure but all written and performed as imagined... Rush lives in all of us whom have had the pleasure of listening to them...what would touch me deeper than tears that fall from eyes that know why
Amazingly best rendition of any Song, let alone this complex composition, I have ever heard. Hands down, thank you for sharing your talents with us! Made me smile and tap my toes! Such talent.
Tasty jam. Well executed plan! ✌️✌️
Wow so cool 🔥😀
.........FARRR OUTTTT!!!!
Kudos, Bravo, Congratulations!!!!!!
Blow out! They got the bass solo and all!
jbooks888 u obviously dont appreciate or understsnd the level of flattery and dedication theese two show , and what it takes to adapt such a complex pice to those instruments.
Mostlikely more difficult to play the guitar and bass licks on that . I. E. Bass solo.
That was my favorite part
Those crazy Brazilians. AWESOMENESS INCARNATE!!!!!
What a Tribute! Thank you guys. Rush will live forever!
4:35 GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE SHE DIDNT JUST FUCKING DO THAT DID SHE???
Imagine if somebody busted through one of those doors right towards the last minute or so and they had to do it all over again.
😂😂
absent a number of Neil's fills.. great stuff
Is awesome how this guys captured the dynamics of the piece! Congratulations!
who says mallet players don't rock.
This must have taken so long to learn. You could've picked an easier Rush track. 10/10 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
There's no such thing as an easy 'RUSH' track, lol.
LMA UK there’s the heavy synth era like grace under pressure and power windows...
LMA UK there’s vital signs
👍👍👍🤘😎🎶🎵🎶👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
...and Neil Peart!
One of the few songs on which drummer Neil Peart is credited with writing some of the music. He is usually only credited with writing lyrics.
This would be a really cool ring tone. The people in the room would be scratching their heads trying to place the tune.
Thank god I came across this....thank you for this...nuff said
Has Geddy, Alex and Neil seen this? Outstanding!
WOW! that was fantastic! Gave me goosebumps.
Bravo! Obrigado por tocarem meu arranjo.
Apenas uma observação, os comps. 106 a 109 são em 7/8, e na repetição na coda também.
abs.
Obrigado Philipe. Faremos correções.
+Philipe Davis Caramba Philipe, sensacional seu arranjo. Tu tem mais alguma coisa do rush?
