Hi Peter, In the last few days we are seeing stories about options being deleted from new BMW builds due to semiconductor shortage. Features like touchscreen, HK audio, Heads Up Display, Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging, etc. The dealers are saying that an order placed now might be delievered in April or June 2022 at the earliest. Looks like all these options are available on paper only at the moment and for the best part of next year also... And also... the M340i Saloon (built on the same platform as M440i) is no longer showing in the UK configurator!
Love the overall design and colour. Didn't expect to see the return of the classic pull up door handles from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's implemented on this car. 😮

A pity u guys didn't review the previous generation of this car as they're coming-up relatively competitively priced on the used car market. Thanks for review for this one, how do the lesser-powered RWD only models compare?
I imagine that’s a result of chip shortage that they don’t offer electric steering column adjustment in this model. MPerformance parts (spoiler, lip, grill etc.) are a rip off at the prices they are offering them in. For X models they don’t even add much in terms of style and looks but at ridiculous charge.
The steering column adjustment is only available manually in the 4-series. But I find it very easy and quick to adjust, so it's no problem. I think you could only ever get power adjustment of the steering column on the 5-series and above.
It's not just making tha grill big, it's knowing how to design it to fit and look good. Audi made a great design and was welcomed and not criticised with it's big grill, on the other hand BMW seemed to just make it to follow the trend, (and I say it as an owner of 3 BMW's). I remember a time when BMW was leading in design and Audi following, but Audi took a step the right way and is leading now. I hope someday BMW hires a designer who has the feel of previous BMW designers. Every shape and form of previous BMW's had a reason and a concept behind, not anymore.
Am wondering if a 4 series hybrid might be on the horizon for this platform, like the 330e. Seems like a hybrid might make more sense for the practical i4 grand coup. At least it would be an easier transition for someone like my mom who rarely drives more than 30 miles in a day, Always appreciate your insight Tomas. Thanks

You mean the Audi RS5 sportback, right? Short answer: No. Although I myself got the M440i Gran Coupe (in the same color and trim shown), I would say No, don't feel you should switch from the Audi RS5 (or even S5) to a BMW M440i. The Audi RS5 has more power and weighs less, so it beats the M440 in race (see the Car Wow video) and maybe cornering. The M440i really crackles and pops nicely, and isn't rev-limited, but I wish it had big round tailpipes and wasn't quite so heavy. Thehe Audi has a sleeker design and a less controversial front end. The 4-series GC is a bit chunky and high. The interior of the Audi is also more elegant, and many prefer its round dials and electronic dashboard. (On the other hand, the BMW iDrive control interface is better, especially if the Audi lost its control wheel and console buttons.) The Audi offers cooled as well as heated front seats in colors beside black, the only choice for the BMW. Only the Audi has an option for massage seats. The RS5 is a $20K-higher-priced, more prestigious car, more comparable to the M-car in capability. But there is no BMW M4 sportback, only a 2-door coupe. Therefore the RS5 is naturally more rare & exclusive, and the next closest model is the Audi S5 (which is actually more of a direct competitor with the 440i GC in price and power). The Audi comes with a spare tire in the trunk. There's not even a space for a tempaspare under the floor of the trunk in the BMW or a strap system for one in the trunk. So you either get runflat tires (much improved vs. 10 years ago but more expensive to replace) -- or a can of Fix-a-Flat, an Extended Mobility Kit air/sealant pump, and a AAA membership. And watch out for potholes!
@@autogefuehl It was standard on the M440i I ordered (here in the U.S.) BUT due to the chip shortage, mine came with manual seats. How about checking the so-called 50/50 split on a scale? It's hard to believe that the weight distribution of the 6-cylinder four-wheel drive is 50/50 when that of the 4-cylinder 2-wheel drive is already given as such.

I've tried to like it but I definitely do not like the look of this car! The proportion and balance of the design especially the side and rear end are all over the place. M340i is a much better choice and is more practical..
The M340i is NOT more practical if you need trunk space (only if you have adult passengers in the rear seat, maybe). I know, I had a 2021 M340i. It couldn't fit two large suitcases in the trunk. I returned it and got a 2022 M440i.
It has more cargo space than the 3 series and easier access. It also has a smoother ride than the M340i. Because of these two reasons, I returned my M340i and got an M440i. I also like the addition of limited slip differential and remote start as standard features (but maybe the '22 M340i also has these?). At first I thought the front grille was odd, but after getting it I like it much more than the M340i's.

8:25 when Thomas is speechless, we know it's really bad. Skip this car for good.
Beautiful car , but the inside is way too cramped.
What is the point of this car? If you wanted a 4 door 4 series why not just get the more beautiful 3 series...
@@alanh2946 I've seen a few 4 series in the flesh and the grills do indeed look much better IRL. I would still get the m340i touring over this though.
Based on the listed dimensions the 3 series is actually bigger
Claret
Mercedes is better 😎
nothing beautiful or interesting about these new 4-Series!☹
I’d rather have the old one it had a way lower roofline
Audi dashboard is much better but nice video!
Looks like an Audi. Wtf have they done
BMW still has preferences over combustion engines. Nokia also preferred physical keyboards on phones.
Yeah, the huge kidney grill has split opinion - some say it's hideous while others say it's absolutely hideous.
This car is oogly. It sits so high too.
This sucks.
