  • When you're hankering for a juicy steak, Texas Roadhouse is a fine place to satisfy your red meat cravings. From ribeye to filets, the beloved chain - which boasts over 600 locations in 10 countries across the globe - has got something for even the most discerning connoisseur of carnivorous cuisine. That being said, there are clear winners when it comes to picking out the best cuts of beef - and, depending on your budget and personal preferences, you'll want to steer clear of some lower-quality dishes (although, let's be honest: it's hard to find a "bad" dish at this place!). We hope you're hungry for some honesty, because we tried all the steaks at Texas Roadhouse and this was the best.

I usually (twice, both very good) get the Prime Rib because It was on sale at LongHorn and they don't sell in any grocery store here in Clarksville, TN. However, I will try the T-Bone or Ribeye after reading the comments.

    As a roadhouse server
#1 pick your steak when you come in. For flavor you want to pick the one with the most marbling.
If you want the most flavor go Bone in
Tenderness filet. Highly recommend getting filets rare but no higher than medium. Filets already lack the flavor of the other big steaks the longer you cook them the more flavor you lose. Also recommend getting them Pittsburgh Rare smothered with onions, mushrooms, and bleu cheese crumbles (if you like it) or jack cheese. Throw on a side kick of shrimp (5) or a shrimp smother (3).
Strip is the middle of the two
If a server recommends a sirloin get another server
Meal I recommend bone-in smothered with sauteed onions mushrooms and charred jalapenos with loaded mash and corn.
Medallions are the ass end of the filets so they are are a little more tough than the six or eight. You can get more oz. This and the filet salad are my go to break meal. Medallions are the best value on the menu 9 ounces of filet and three sides for $19.99.
As an FYI the mac and cheese is Kraft and a $.99 upcharge.
For the record I'm not a salesman I just provide options to take your dining experience to the next level.

Never had a bad experience there, unlike the restaurant from down under who served me steak (sent back 3 times then gave up) that was so tough (like chewing shoe leather) that the knife would barely cut it, like a dull butter knife.

It's either they're snobs or don't know how to cook a proper medium temperature steak. And never return an undercooked steak to be "fixed". It will be delivered back to your table over done. You can choose to either eat what they bring you and then complain or just refuse the steak and leave.

Last trip, ordered a ribeye, came out about the size of the plate, but only 1/4” thick, they keep pushing out these really thin steaks which can’t be cooked right. If you get a really thick one, they are great.

My absolute favorite is the Filet, soooo tender and no it is not an overrated cut of meat IMO. Some of the comments are upset at the filet being number 1 and I have to say the Porterhouse and the ribeye are very good also, very flavorful. The porterhouse even has a small bit of filet on it but I don't care for the chewiness, it's not horrible like the sirloin but they are still a bit chewy especially the porterhouse. Regardless of cut, I love a good steak.

T Bones have just a little bit of Tenderloin. Porterhouses - good one - has about 35/40 % Tenderloin & remainder is Sirloin.
Like NY Strip - sirloin and use to like Semiboneless Rib Eyes - only get full bone today. Good Prime Rib but hard to find one. Thanks.

I got a ft worth and it was almost not edible, i only had 4/5 bites and didn’t eat anything more. For $30 it tastes like a steak id cook at home which is NOT what i wanted when going out somewhere haha. Luckily the gm was our server and really cool, i hateeeee doing this and was the first time i ever sent back something and he took it off my bill. Very nice of him

The review had me until they ranked a fillet #1. Fillet is the most overrated cut, according to me, most chefs, and most steak lovers. It is consistently rated lower than either the Ribeye or strip. Big fail here.

I love the prime rib not to say that so of the steaks may taste better but it is hard to find a good prime rib anywhere today. This was a restaurant staple even at family dining restaurants but it is now gone. That is why I ask if they have a medium rare prime rib before I fall back to a great steak.

Their prime rib tastes like ham. Their filet mignon is nice and tender, but not as flavorful as the ribeye. I usually order the 12 oz ribeye. I haven’t tried the 20 oz bone in ribeye yet. I can barely finish the 12 oz.

    • @welbyncastro9169

It's true the prime rib tastes like ham. The Bone in ribeye with out the bone is like 14oz but it's by far the best tasting steak there. I'm a waiter there. I know.

I'll be the dissenter who says that the Road Kill is a great choice, particularly if you don't want to spend $20+ on a steak. Yes, it's basically a hamburger patty, but cooked and seasoned properly it's very tasty. I personally get the mushrooms and onions on the side and I never get the gravy. Give me this and mashed potatoes and I'm very happy.

It is, it's called the Dallas fillet, but I disagree with it being the best on the list. It's good, don't get me wrong, but the bone in ribeye is hands down the best on the list imo. It's so juicy and mouth-watering. I don't even use a fork or knife while eating it, I just grab the bone portion and eat it like it's a piece of chicken. It's soooooo good!! Especially when you get it medium rare and pair it with a few pieces of shrimp, baked potato, steamed brocolli, and a piece of cheesecake for desert. Heaven

I got the 16oz prime rib. I'm no expert on prime rib cooking, but I've had prime rib non-smoked before, and it's some of the best meat I've ever had. I hate, hate, hate smoked meat. All I taste is the smoke. It could be any cheap cut. My Texas Roadhouse prime rib was smoked, and tasted like smoke all the way through :(
