My grandparents did that too. Stouffer's lasagna, spaghetti, mac and cheese, those were their favorites. Or on occasion their french bread pizzas. They'd have a salad or vegetable along with them, and some ice cream afterwards. Pop liked a big hunk of buttered Italian bread with the spaghetti, and a glass of cheap wine after.
A few yrs ago I was looking for a good stuffed pepper recipe. One article said "Best stuffed pepper recipe! Never fails!" I clicked on it and it was Stouffer's! I tried it and never looked back. Delicious!
Took me a while but I finally figured out, "new and improved" actually means, "cheaper and less ingredients". Nothing's is as good as it used to be. I am sorry for ppl who have big families and can't afford or even have the time to cook whole foods to feed them.

I am 75 years old and living by myself and enjoy cooking for myself, I have usually always had a couple of frozen meals in the freezer as a standby but 5 years ago I was diagnosed as a pre diabetic and have found almost all of the ingredients contained in a frozen meal are unsuitable , high in carbohydrates, potatoes, rice, noodles/spaghetti, breadcrumbs over all meats, I don’t have any frozen meals and I still am not on any medication for diabetes because I cook for myself,
The fast food industry is awful, as is the over processed frozen dinners. Good for you, not eating all that stuff and maintaining your health. Diabetes can be terrible. I have a spine injury and I can't stand for a long time, so I still cook some simple things, and I have resorted to buying a few TV dinners. There is a local restaurant that sells their Eggplant Parmigiana, and it's excellent, but it hasn't been in stock at the local store for about 6 months now. Keep up the good work!
Loran, same here. I eat only Whole Foods now but I do you keep a couple of Dr. Adkins TV dinners. beef Malone is my favorite and has six carbs. Not really filling but I add some cooked cauliflower with Parmesan cheese and it is enough.
I work in the frozen department at a busy grocery store. I can tell you from what I see the most popular frozen dinners are: Stouffer's, Marie Calendar's and Amy's. Out of those I'd say Marie Calendar's potpies, Stouffer's lasagna, and Amy's enchiladas are the top sellers.
Dude, its probably not good for me, but Stouffer's lasagna takes me back to the childhood and it's good. Amys cheese enchiladas are my go to if I'm going for a quick meal without driving to a Taqueria
Just because things are top sellers doesn't mean those who bought them liked them! I've literally trashed hundreds of things I've bought. Amys is gross, Marie Calenders is bland. Swanson pot pies are still great. TURKEY IS THE BEST if you like dark meat.
Amys is the best. Its actually fresh, and expires within a few months so you know it's not full of nasty preservatives, atleast not as many the mexican food, and the pasta / Italian is great too. Broccoli / Cheese Pasta is the best. I say this as someone that has eaten them way too many times, lol. Time to learn how to cook.
I had Banquwt chicken strips dinner a couple of weeks ago for the 1st time. Low on $ the price was right. I didn't expect much & BOY, was I pleasantly surprised!! The chicken, even though microwaved, was crunchy on the outside, tender & moist on the inside, the corn AND the mac & cheese were not half water! So I figured it was a fluke & have bought then twice since- all the same happy results!! One of my go-to meal in frozen foods now as I'm disabled & cooking is more a chore than the joy it was... Good job Banquet, thank you!
Another good easy meal is buy a bagged salad, and doctor it up by adding some olives, a sliced up carrot, tiny tomatoes, any cheese, etc...Then I buy Tyson frozen chicken nuggets and chop them up after baking and add to my salad....all delicious❤.
To many o these frozen meals keep going to a "new and improved" recipe which turns out to be garbage. It's nothing but cheaper ingredients to save a buck while the prices continue to go up and the portion sizes keep going down.
Salisbury "steak"? Made with Chicken, pork & beef - I'm quoting the package front description as shown in video. Order of ingredients is based on percentage by law, this "steak" is a flattened unbreaded chicken nugget w meat flavorings
@TheTRUTHmatters! I'd have to somewhat disagree with that. Look at something like Tombstone pizza. That used to be the best frozen pizza on the market. The "new and improved" shit they trotted out 2 years ago is absolute garbage.
They do the same with "packaging....new and improved".....all that means is the same junk is inside or they put finger-grips or shrunk the package somehow to use less product which means more $$$ for them
Depends on the brands and what it is.....I think stouffer's lasagna, chicken pot pie and pizzas are good,,swanson's or hungryman pot pies and hungry man chicken dinners are good.... banquet also has good lasagna...I don't care too much for lean cuisine...the best frozen foods are the highest in sodium🧂will definitely give you high blood pressure.
The secret to a frozen meal/dinner is to always, always (if the directions gives a choice) use the "conventional oven" method--it takes longer but it makes all the difference! If you want to get the most flavor out of your food, never microwave a meal! 🤓
I'd like to get the old style TV dinners in the foil trays that took a long time to cook and the dessert portion would be scalding hot and anyone old enough to remember those probably remembers what it was like to have the molten lava like dessert stick to the roof of your mouth before you realized how hot it was.
Ohh the days when mom would put Mr Rogers Neighborhood or 3,2,1 Contact and I got to set a the living room table and she would bring out that delicious TV dinner in the foil tray.. they were so good when I was little!! Those were the good ol days!! Back in the 80’s, they definitely don’t taste the same now days!!! Anyone else agree??? Lol
I have to agree with this video. As an older woman, my back has become so bad that I can’t stand long enough to cook. I rely on many frozen meals and take-out. I eat mostly Stouffers, then Marie Calendars, and lastly Amy’s.
This needs to be added: Yes I agree, Marie Callenders is a great tasting dinner but the sodium content of their meals is the absolute HIGHEST in the industry.
Use to love Her Pot Pies… Horrible now. Pie crust not near as good. Not worth eating. Insides of Beef use to be a real tasting gravy. As good as homemade. But now the filling is weird. Meat use to taste like a few pieces of stewed beef. Now the chunks that look like suppose to be meat….BUT now weird. Not beef. Gobs of square something… taste horrible. Texture rubbery. Solid cubes of formed something. I use to eat several times a month. Will never waste my money again.
I decided that from now on I'm cooking everything from scratch, and I'm buying local produce A friend of mine is grinding his own flour, and making bread, and pies. I'm not there, but I wish I'd always eaten healthy, and consciously. I cooked from scratch when I raised my children, but it seems to be too much now that my children are grown.
My children thought frozen dinners were a big treat. When their Dad went hunting for a week, they were allowed to pick out their own dinners. This was back in the late 70s.
My Mom bought some of the very first Swanson TV dinners in the 1950's. We thought we were in heaven. Meanwhile my parents ate steak, baked potatoes and salad. We were so ignorant.
After I retired, I started to put on a little weight, so I eat breakfast and lunch. Now I've started having Lean Cuisine and a salad for dinner, I really like the Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes, I put a blop of butter on the potatoes. I also like their Chicken Alfredo. Both of those with a salad fill me up.
Lean Cuisine Turkey with the dressing, gravy and lovely spiced apples!! My fave. My next fave is Smart Ones Meatloaf and mashed potatoes, I add some green beans and wa-laaa! Dinner!!!
Thanks to the RUclips algorithm for bringing me here to this page. I've just learned a lot and now have confidence on what to choose in the freezer section.
I was directed here..weird I didn't Google TV dinners but I bought a dozen dinners over the past week. How did RUclips know? Weird or creepy working here.
I make mine own in 3 compartment glass containers with leftovers and freeze. when I do not want to cook then it’s tv dinner night. works great and gives me a break.
I love using my Food Saver. Personally I do not like fast food, besides being over priced there is little substance to most of it besides a lot of bread and weak lettuce, tomato, etc. Ugh! Thank God I can cook. Stouffer's use to be pretty good but......
The gravy sux, unless you add a splash of milk. If you want a cheap, fast meal. Cream gravy made with bacon grease while you are browning hamburger in a sauce pan w/ a few spices. Serve over toast. For the time of cooking 3 tv dinners in the microwave, you have a great meal.

You know . As I read some of the comments.. that is so true about Stouffer's they used to be really good and it changed there . Food to cheaper ingredients and it doesn't taste good Stouffer's... also our taste buds of changed along with them using cheaper ingredients.. I used to eat this stuff all the time back in my 20s before I knew how to cook. I’m sooo glad I learned how to cook, lol. Maybe when I’m too old to cook for myself I will start eating these again. Growing up we would beg my mom for frozen dinners and the rare occasion she allowed it (she liked us to eat homemade) it was a real treat. It was usually whenever we had a babysitter for the night.
I haven't tried theirs but I have eaten Lean Cuisine's Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and it's delicious. It's very creamy & enough sauce to satisfy anyone.
I really like the Stouffer’s Italiano lasagna variety but it is so hard to find. If I’m not at the store right after they stock the freezer, believe me, I’m not going to get it. I guess that shows a lot of people likes this variety more than the other Stouffer lasagna varieties. I think it is because it has ricotta cheese. The only lasagna I like better is my own homemade lasagna.
I’m a part time van lifer. I like going on long road trips in my van. My kitchen consists of a mini fridge, microwave, and 3 in 1 toaster oven with a coffee pot, griddle, and oven. My favorite is the Marie Callender's Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and green beans. For $2.50 it's great. I take the dinner and put one of my Corell plates on top of it (after I take off the plastic) and flip it upside down so it comes out of the plastic onto the plate, then cover the plate with aluminum foil and cook it for 40 min. It's so good.

Stouffer's Mac and cheese, stuffed peppers are both good. I have an issue with texture in most frozen meals, so if the meat seems fake or processed, it's a no-go for me!
Yes ,when I was a kid in the 70s my mom would make us a turkey TV dinner as a treat and it made it easier for her because she would go to work after we came home from school .Good times !
The last time Stouffers Lasagna was good was way back in the 80s. I can't see them going any further as they are practically inedible now. If only they knew that if they spent a little, they would see the stuff flying off the shelves!
What is sad is that younger people, young families who live on this frozen meals, for them the version from the frozen food aisle has become the "standard" by which they judge even homemade versions. "Back-when" people/families made they're own tomato ketchup, before big grocery stores were set up. Then Heinz became "the standard". (Yes, I have made and put-up in jars my own ketchup.)

Oh and for some you can combine MW with air fryer to get the crispy skin... but that won't fix the ones with bad flavor or fake meat
There is no 'fake meat' in any of these dinners. All the entrails and beef byproducts used in them comes from animals. The reason Con Agra and Nestle's can deliver so much delicious meat so cheap is cuz they use 'downer' livestock, which is either dead or dying when slaughtered and mechanically deboned. My Hungry Man riblet dinner had only 2310 mg's sodium and 12 gms of corn syrup, adding some salt helps eliminate the blandness, making it almost as tasty as a McRib. McNuggets have 23 ingrediants in them, which insures that those folks that eat only them have a balanced diet. Finally, never forget to SUPERSIZE ME! ☠

Amys is gross, Marie Calenders is bland.
Swanson pot pies are still great. TURKEY IS THE BEST if you like dark meat.
Amys is the best. Its actually fresh, and expires within a few months so you know it's not full of nasty preservatives, atleast not as many

Stouffer's changed the recipe for their veggie lasagna and it's TERRIBLE! They need to go back to the original.
@TheTRUTHmatters! I'd have to somewhat disagree with that. Look at something like Tombstone pizza. That used to be the best frozen pizza on the market. The "new and improved" shit they trotted out 2 years ago is absolute garbage.
They do the same with "packaging....new and improved".....all that means is the same junk is inside or they put finger-grips or shrunk the package somehow to use less product which means more $$$ for them
Depends on the brands and what it is.....I think stouffer's lasagna, chicken pot pie and pizzas are good,,swanson's or hungryman pot pies and
hungry man chicken dinners are good.... banquet also has good lasagna...I don't care too much for lean cuisine...the best frozen foods are the highest in sodium🧂will definitely give you high blood pressure.
The secret to a frozen meal/dinner is to always, always (if the directions gives a choice) use the "conventional oven" method--it takes longer but it makes all the difference! If you want to get the most flavor out of your food, never microwave a meal! 🤓
The directions on michelenas Italian meals says that on the back of the box but I think micro is better. Just don’t overcook it
Cooking anything in plastic is unappetizing.
Cooking in the microwave has much better results if you lengthen the time and power down the oven to 80% or 70%. The food is more evenly cooked.
I totally agree with you!
@@Judy-i7sThanks! 😊 I finally learned that after many disappointing ‘heating frozen food’ efforts. 😁

I had a frozen Marie Callender meal the other day. I opened the box and never saw such a skimpy portion of food. Never again.
I don't like their pot pies. They have too much crust to filling.

Solid cubes of formed something.

Well, some of us are old enough to remember. I was a small child in the 70's, but trust, the big difference between now and say '78 is legit.
What is sad is that younger people, young families who live on this frozen meals, for them the version from the frozen food aisle has become the "standard" by which they judge even homemade versions. My other fave is the Good Old Stand-By: Stouffer's Mac & Cheese- you can't beat the original; Comfort Food at its best there.
I don't believe Picard, the French frozen food outlet has come to the U.S. You will be amazed! Duck confit, shrimp in coconut milk and coriander, lemon tarts, tart Tatin... French frozen dinners are WAY better than anything I've seen in the U.S. They DO have macaroni and cheese, though it's called a gratin, and is made with Emmental and topped with bread crumbs. I'm glad to hear that the Stouffer's lasagne gets high marks!
Great channel! Love how you don't hold back the honesty!
Are these proccesed dinners?
I still remember the TV dinners we had in the 60's, aluminum trays and foils. Somehow they were tastier when heated in the oven. Today all this plastic cardboard trays microwaveable stuff just doesn't taste right for me.
I just put the contents in the toaster/convection oven on some foil. It does taste better that way.
Marie Calendar makes a damn good pot pie 🥧
EXCEPT the Gardein plant-based ones. 🤮
Yes. she does. I'm not really fond of the beef ones, though. The gravy has an odd taste to it, but the chicken and turkey varieties are AMAZING! Almost as good as homemade.
16 oz. Turkey pot pie for 3 bucks.
The best
@@styx53ocean The beef is also dry and tough. I avoid beef in any frozen dinner for that reason. None of it is any good.
@@Neil-ht8fv And come out as good in the nuke as they would in the oven. That's what I like best.
Birds eye frozen foods do rock! Love it! After all, they invented flash freezing 🥶
In my opinion, Marie Calendar’s pot pies don’t have enough sauce, and the vegetables are undercooked. My favorite pot pie used to be Stouffer’s, but I don’t think they are available anymore.
I agree completely! I like all of MC’s other frozen meals, but the chicken pot pie is a “no go” for me. I really enjoyed the Stouffer’s pot pies, but they either quit producing them or they aren’t available in my area.
marie calender's pot roast dinner is pretty good the meat is tender and the veggies taste fresh,,their turkey and dressing is also good... corky's bar-be-que ribs dinner is also pretty good
When I was growing up, we loved eating Banquets Frozen TV Dinners. It was not something we had every day. Mom cooked mostly home cooked meals, but a couple of times a month we got to have TV dinners! My favorite was the meat loaf dinner or the Turkey Pot Pie with top and bottom crust. Even now, I will occasionally get a TV dinner or a Turkey Pot Pie. Yes, I know the portions are small, and it's really not all that "healthy", but it is memories, a feeling of a time when life was less stressful, it is pure comfort food. I like Stoffer's, but will take a cheap Banquet frozen dinner any day. The narrator of this video should use less negative comments about the "taste" of the frozen dinners. People work hard at those factories. It's how they make a living. Show a little more respect.
When I was a kid - frozen meals was such a treat lol
Truth be told most of us, eating prepared foods, don't know what we're ingesting.
Kinzie Roger's. (Damm. Spell check ) .sorry about your 1st name . .u r 100% true. . We don't know half the things were eating here's a little tip for everyone that may not know this never ever by margarine.... 1 molecule away from being plastic..BUTTER IS BETTER. . Actually European butter is Premier and makes better cookies.( cost a bit more ) . All in all it's better just to cook from scratch if you are able to do this. .🥩🥪🧀🍕🌮🌯🥪🌭🥗🍤🍪🥣🍳🥓🥐🥞🍞🥑🍎🍓
I'm so glad I'm not a picky eater..I would eat everything listed in this video and love it lol
I haven’t eaten all these dinners, but many of them. And they are all sooo good, especially Hungry Man. The only one I have run into that I didn’t really care for was Swanson’s.
The only tv dinner I ever enjoyed was the boil in the bag veal patrician. The 'veal' was not real but it had good Italian flavor/cheese. I think they stopped making them in the 80's
Amy's frozen foods has some really good selections. Their Mexican casserole is great, their matter paneer is the dish that convinced me that I don't hate all Indian food, and for vegan options - their scrambled tofu and pad thai are 2 really good options.
The Cheese enchiladas are good too !
Am's 😟
I just bought a F150 powerboost with onboard power generator . Love traditional campsite cooking but now with a freezer / refrigerator I plan to carry a durable microwave for those so-called inhospitable areas like Death Valley or quick over night stops so this Video is more than informative , Thanks !
Michelangelo wasn't critiqued..would have like to see what they said about this frozen dinner.
Love Michael angel it's. Do cook it in the oven, not the microwave.
I do not like Michelangelo brand!!
@@MissyQ12345 Yes. Cooks evenly with no hotspots like microwaved. Your house will smell like an Italian restaurant if you're aiming for that ambiance!
Their vegetable lasagna used to be my favorite. I can't find it anymore.
@@kaykelley9264 disgusting
Believe by the time you got to the Banquet Classic Salisbury Steak your taste buds were completely gone!
🤣🤣🤣!!!!!!!
😂😂😂
I just ate one based on their review.🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮
@@buttbirder253 Please don't feed it to the birds!
As a kid, TV dinners were a treat. Now, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.
Anything I don’t have to cook from scratch works for me.
The Annie’s enchiladas are tasty, I love them
Victoria Brooks
I LOVE Annie's mexican meals ,the best!
Don’t you mean ‘Amy’s’ Enchilada’s? Yeah, they’re okay....but Van Camp’s cheese enchilada was the best! I wish they still had them here in Arizona.
Oh good to know! I was wondering! Have you had the Chili Relleno?
I love the Family Size but it’s getting hard to find.
Amy's food is yummy. My favs are the Cheese Enchilada, Chili Relleno bowl & Pad Thai. They're organic & vegetarian. I physically can't eat meat of any kind or my liver aches. I'm so bummed as I love a rare porterhouse. But I've lost A LOT of weight eating her meals. A lot!!!!
I miss the Hungryman Mexican TV Dinner. Anyway, please update this with the newer meals out there.
Read labels!!
Some of these meals are loaded with calories
Hundreds of calories
OMG Thought I was the only one losing their mind! YOU NAILED these horrific frozen meals. So bad I bought an Instant Pot so I could have a meal in 20 min LOL... loved your video great job!
😂 I agree with you on some of these, but some of them I don’t agree with you.
Smart One’s Santa Fe rice is delicious especially rolled up in a tortilla with shredded cheese. 😉
Wonderful idea, thanks❤
I love that Veggie loaf! The tomatoe sauce is tangy and sweet. It's very substantial and filling.
My mom died when I was 7 and I grew up on TV dinners since I was 7. I liked the Swanson TV dinners , which I thought were pretty good.
I had Hungry man
Peter Terry,
Heart felt hug...not having your Mom...certainly your food memory is comforted by
TV dinners.
We felt they were a treat. Fridays came from school, hit the tv in basement, watched lineup of fun shows, ate tv dinners.
Our parents were free, we were focused, they were happy, so were we.
Mommy passed about three months ago.
Her favorite song was sung at their anniversary.
Was used at her Memorial.
"Just around the corner".

So sorry you lost your Mom when you were so young. I had my mother, but she didn't like to cook, and we ate a lot of Swanson's. I liked them, especially turkey and meatloaf.
It's not possible? Bag of defrosted chicken, some eggs and milk, breadcrumbs and flour, and/or your favorite seasonings, big baking sheet, your own tv dinners for the week. Any protein really. Batching up vegetables and mashed potatoes, rice, pasta too.
Remember when TV dinners were in aluminum foil. There were no microwaves. Long time ago.
