I haven’t run that car so I’m not sure what all the options would be. You should be able to go with a lower turn motor for more RPM and then go with a smaller pinion. That should keep your speed close to the same but give a bit more torque.

I wouldn’t call it better. The “T” is for turns in the motor windings. A lower T motor will give more RPM per volt so more speed but less torque. The rock crawler folks will use a 65t motor. It gives a lot more torque but a lot less top speed. They are more interested in power and control than speed. Lower turn motors also require a lot of power so if you go to a 10t motor in say a 144001 it will overheat the stock ESC.

As an example the folks doing rock crawling will get a very high turn (35t-80t) motor to add torque and make it more controllable. Hey Cory. I don’t really have any larger scale stuff I’ve worked with. If you’re interested in 1/18 scale I have a few I’ve tested. Most of those don’t have real shocks, the just have a set of springs on them. I do have a red cat which would be more into the official crawler category but I have had time to run it yet. I don’t know of any 27 to 30 tooth pinion that are MOD .7 gears. The only way to do it would be to change the spur and pinion to MOD1 or 32p gears. The stock motor mount isn’t adjustable so you would have to change the motor mount to set the gear lash.
@@RCModSquad fair enough I don't know or own that particular car, My first port of call for more speed would always be to alter the gearing especially on a 550 with low down grunt 😉👍
@@gatti493 true. The main problem is the odd gear pitch and the non adjustable motor mount. The good part of the design is the bearing arrangement on the driveshaft. The motor mount has bearings for the driveshaft so the spur won’t get pushed away from the pinion. It keeps the gear mesh very constant. It has a plastic spur but I don’t know if anyone that’s stripped the spur unless they cut grooves in the motor mount to make it adjustable. WLtoys did an excellent job with the gear mesh. You can alway just use a lower turn motor for more speed. I don’t think the ESC would handle a 12t or less motor but it might with a fan installed. A 15t or 17t might work pretty well. Unless you have a lot of room 30 mph gets away from you pretty fast.

Here is an 80t amzn.to/45NmBWg and HBX does offer a 100t brushed motor. High turn brushed motors are popular to use in crawlers. They give a lot of low end torque and more control at lower speed.

I subbed your channel btw , doesn't cost anything 🫡 So , in rc for dummies , one unit of whatever comes out of the battery will take 100 turns to get to the other side , that means 17t motors are therefore faster in speed but low torque/muscle . On brushless , less kV means more torque and more kV less torque but much more speed .... So pretty much the opposite of one another ... well I guess both have their pros and cons... My 1:10 Torment will go slow if I use 2s Lipo with the 550 but different story with 3s but my 1:10 torment can handle 3s like whatever doesn't even get hot and in the manual its says I can use 3s... To boring with 2s and 550 need 3s FOR SURE

Sorry about that. It was just an unbranded 2s 1800 mAh battery. It was the same battery for both runs.

550 motor has more torque for off road, steep climb and higher turn (slower) make easier control for rock crawling

I have to ask , is there a 100T brushed motor? Why do ppl still go for brushed motors? I don't get it...

High turn brushed motors are popular to use in crawlers. They give a lot of low end torque and more control at lower speed.

So , in rc for dummies , one unit of whatever comes out of the battery will take 100 turns to get to the other side , that means 17t motors are therefore faster in speed but low torque/muscle .
On brushless , less kV means more torque and more kV less torque but much more speed .... So pretty much the opposite of one another ... well I guess both have their pros and cons...

My 1:10 Torment will go slow if I use 2s Lipo with the 550 but different story with 3s but my 1:10 torment can handle 3s like whatever doesn't even get hot and in the manual its says I can use 3s... To boring with 2s and 550 need 3s FOR SURE
I thinks so too. I’ll still try and find a better option on a 550 for people that don’t want to go brushless.

For anyone that’s interested, I did find a 550 12 turn motor that should be in in about a week. I’ll do a quick speed test with it then switch to the brushless system. I’ll get that all in one video.

@D. Alex Hutchinson I probably won’t do much more with this. I’m not having enough voltage sag to go into limp mode so I might add a cap pack and tinker with the timing but little else beyond that.
