    This it’s a very fun little RC car. It’s fun right out of the box or there are plenty of mods you can do to it with brushed or brushless motors.

      I just bought a wireless mic to test so I’ll try and get on that soon.

    I haven't read through all the comments, but I know a much easier solution to the wheel/axle nut problem... Just get a thinner wheel hex.
    Example..my stock hexes on my Losi M8 was like 8mm thick, but the aluminum hexes I replaced them with are only 5-6mm thick. Leaving more threads at the end. I didn't do it to gain more threads, the axle shafts we're properly sized, but I always have a little thread showing no matter what rims I put on it.
    Look for a set of MRC aluminum hexes, or touring car 12mm hexes, which generally have a thinner profile than off-road 1/10 hexes. Just a thought 🤔

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  Год назад

      I agree. I have a lathe so I can cut the hexes down as necessary.
      They really caught the short axle problem quickly so it was only the first few cars that went out that had the problem.
      It seems all the replacement axles were the correct length.

Mine is still stock and I was going to run it on 3s like I did once before and I hit the gas and heard a pop now the servo don’t work but i was thinking of getting rid of the stock electronics. • @RCModSquad

      I had to find it in an old video. It’s a HiTech HS-81
      You have to sand the factory mount just a tiny bit to make it wider.
      That’s what I lost on 3s was the steering.
      The servo was ok but it Killed the ESC.

    • @KurtsRCs

      Kurt's RCs mine was. I had another car so I popped the servo wires and neither servo worked on the bad ESC and both worked on the good ESC.
      I just recommend not using 3s on the stock electronics and not using a lower turn count motor even on 2s unless you gear the car down, which is a hassle since the motor mount isn’t adjustable.
      I new stock ESC is pretty cheap if you can wait on one from China and not too bad if you pick one up from amazon or ebay.

    I'm going to be buying a 12428, and I'm definitely going to be switching away from the stock electronics. And I was considering moving it to a brushless motor, but seen a few videos where its just notchy in low speed situations (I do believe cogging was the term) vs a brushed motor, and I seen a few videos where the brushless motor was really smooth, so I guess motor and or ESC or both play a role in this.
    I like speed, but I also like some low speed stuff like a little trail running and climbing. So I was considering staying brushed but with a different motor, but still swapping out the electronics. It seems like this brushed motor has a little bit of grunt to it.
    I'm also looking at the Flysky FS-GT5 that comes with a receiver ( I need a good all around remote as I do have other RC cars, while 6 channels will be overkill, I like the overhead if I was to get something that would use those extra channels).
    I know that a higher turn motor will result in lower top end but more torque, and a lower KV rating. And a lower turn motor will result in a faster top end, but lower torque but higher KV. I'd like it to still be fast, but have torque as well (gearing plays a roll here as well).
    I don't really want to go with lipo, but if I absolutely have to I will have no choice (going to need a lipo fire bag and a fire proof box of some kind).

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  3 года назад +1

      Great questions. There are a lot of reasons for cogging. The KV and gear choice but also you can turn down the “punch” a little. It basically gives the motor and ESC time to sync up at part throttle before it turns on the full power.
      You can pick up a programming card or depending on the ESC program it with button pushes, by counting beeps and or LED blinks.
      I higher KV motor with a smaller pinion and or larger spur is an option for brushed or brushless.
      The gear combo slows you down and gives more torque regardless of the KV but you’re still need a high KV to keep some speed.
      The 12428 has enough room in the battery tray to put 2 2s li-ion batteries in and you can buy or build a 2s parallel harness for it.
      It sounds like a fun project.

    If stock is 30 mph what would be the quickest way to get 40 mph? 44 mph from this combo is impressive, but I was hoping to do only a motor swap. There is a dizzying amount of brushed motors for sale. Do you know what the turn count is on the stock motor? It seems like a lot of people do 540 size, but what if I stuck with 550 size? I would like to keep some of the fun low-speed 4wd punch and drift capability that it has stock and not just turn it into a speed demon.

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  4 года назад +1

      Sorry for the slow reply Matt. I’m not getting notifications on a lot of my videos.
      I’m 500 miles from my cars right now but I’m pretty sure the stock 550 is a 17t. A 540 17t usually has a few more RPM so a little less power and a little more speed.
      The ESC on this thing is the question mark for what you want to do. Some run fine in 3s, some move about a foot and some let the magic smile out when you connect the battery.
      If you watch the run video I did with paddle tires in the snow, that was all stick on 3s. It did 40 mph and was quick.
      I think the paddle tires just had too much traction in the snow and I did overheat the ESC.
      On this car the ESC “should” be comparable to the rating for the stock ESC.
      I wanted the range and adjustability of the DumboRC radio is the main reason for changing the ESC.
      The 13t motor I’m using here is prey quick and fast. If you put a fan on it it
      might handle this motor but again all the factory ESC’s don’t seem to be created equal.
      If this didn’t answer what you needed or sparked another question let me know.

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  Год назад +1

      If you're interested in crawling I'd say to go with a higher turn motor. You might lose a little speed though. Maybe a 27 to 35 turn.
      If you want to get a little speed back you could change the ESC and bump up to a 3s LiPo.

      @@RCModSquad I currently have the 2845 motor 3800 kvs, with 16BL30 ECU. It runs pretty fast. Way too fast on 3s. It is cool for bragging, but I hate the cogging I get when rolling from complete stop. I tried all setting on the card, and I can't seem to get rid of it completely. I miss the old 550 motor.
      When you say I should try at 27 or 35 turn, are you talking about the 550 brushed or the 540? I wish I would have found all your videos earlier. You've answered so many questions including me freaking out after installing the 2845 when I noticed it was going faster in reverse than forward haha. Thank you very much.

      @@tjrick I'm happy it's helped a bit. Either the 540 or 550 would be fine.
      The 2845 in a lower KV like 3100 might help or you can go to a smaller pinion. That will slow it down and should get rid of the cogging also.
      With the smaller pinion it will have more torque and be more controllable at lower speeds. It also helps lower the temps on the ESC.

    Hi, asking a question for advice, i am a newbie :)
    I bought and recived two 144001 two weeks ago. My issue is that i already have burned two motors. It has happened after just 10 minutes running on included LiPo 2600mA battery. The car stops and smokes. I have only half speed adjusted on the controller.
    MY QUESTION:
    Is this common?
    Will a heatsink solve this overheating issue?
    Is there a better more durable brushed motor exchangeble with the original stock 550 motor?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  Год назад +2

      Sorry for the delay, it’s been a very busy few weeks.
      I would say it is definitely not common to burn up the stock motors. If you were running five or six full packs without a break to cool off on a hot day this could happen but not on a single pack.
      A heatsink never hurts anything but shouldn’t be a requirement on a stock car.
      Two things pop into my head. One would be if you are running oversized tires. And secondly, and most likely, if you tighten the wheel nuts too tight they don’t turn freely and that greater increases the load on the motor.
      If you watched any of the other videos that told you about the wheel nuts falling off you might have them too tight.
      The 12mm plastic wheel hex is very easy to over tighten. Aluminum hexs are much more forgiving.
      Higher turn motors run cooler but slower, lower turn motors run faster but hotter.
      Let me know if any of this helps and we can explore more if needed.
      Have a great day and be safe out there!

      The tightness of wheel nuts can definately be a issue. First run i ever had a front tire came off, so i have tightened them all a bit before every race. I will have them more loose from now on, and get some aluminum hex also.

      I never did try 3s on this. I’m thinking it would be a bit much in the ESC. It’s fast enough for me on 2s. If you were just doing short speed runs it might be ok.
      I think a 15-17t would be better for 3s. You would get more speed than this but not overload the ESC.
