    This solo sounds so to the point and moving, no hesitation to any of the lines. And that sequence at 0:33 is just so lyrical, one of personal favorites!

    Ah yes, the famous Montreux 2004 Spain solo. What makes it even more interesting is that Eric had just gotten ABSOLUTELY WAXXED by Chick and Frank on "Got A Match?"

      I do actually love Eric's solo on Got A Match as well, where they go in half-time feel and then back to the initial tempo.
      But Chick and gambale can really burn on that tune, true!

    Just an FYI, long before Marienthal played with Chick, he and Patitucci played together. In fact, I used to go to Studio Cafe on Thursday nights and watch both of them play for free. Studio Cafe had no cover charge. Other nights had folks like Brandon Fields and Tony Guerrero. So…that bass player was impressed almost nightly for years before Chick discovered them both

    • @arboricola
      @arboricola Год назад +2

      @@marlonfolive ah com certeza citação, mas nem toda citação é racionada da maneira que se imagina. Acontece por uma atividade neurológica muita rápida, mais rápida do que a associação de memórias. Então, pra responder se ele lembrou que era uma melodia de Se eu Quiser falar com Deus quando ele tocou, só ele mesmo pra responder.
      Digo isso porque sempre quando to improvisando escuto melodias que ja existem mas que na hora nao consigo lembrar de onde é, na verdade na hora nem penso sobre isso, só toco, porque é o que eu to escutando na hora. E como dizia Miles Davis, a gente precisa: "tocar o que está ouvindo".
