Absolutely the best version of my favourite violin concerto. I'm upset because I've never heard it before! What an orchestra, conductor and as a fiddler myself (RPO) I have to say what a performance from Leonid! My God! I listened twice one after the other. Thank You everyone. Love from Tottenham. England and Solidarity in these dangerous times. Humanity is Universal
Kavakos' the very best attraction comes from the posture of the BOW HAND which has changed from his young period. The FIGURA of his bow hand gained extremely utilizing all the knuckle bones as much as a human structure can project!
Incredible, inspiring technique Kavakos has. Prokofiev probably knew the concerto would be premiered in Spain and so he inserted the castanets in the third movement. Or perhaps it's just a coincidence. He could have used any other noise maker but he didn't. Bravo!!
Two great personality, unique musicians = brilliant world-famous Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and the outstanding conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev fascinated the entire Universe, millions of fans, thanks to its unique creativity. Excellent performance of Violin Concerto number 2 in G Minor, Op. 63 by Sergei Prokofiev = composer, pianist, conductor. Creativity Prokopyeva is characterized by vocal symphonic works, instrumental concertos, operas, ballets, cantatas, oratorios, symphonies, piano sonatas, etudes. With undoubted talent, unbridled fantasy, bright, glamorous, brilliant music, created real masterpieces. Excellent performance of a work by the Greek musician Leonid Kavakos. What a magnificent performance which virtuosity, what emotions, charm, passion and craftsmanship, gorgeous compelling improvisation. Wonderful orchestra with excellent musicians with perfect technique and a great game. What a pleasure to revel in the fascinating game of the great musician, my compatriot, whom I am proud of.
I don't believe at all. There will never forget the "Jeschowina". A collective nightmare. The Day Prokofiev died,5.3.1953,Stalin died. There wasn't any flower for Prokofiev s Funeral. Kavakos the Best!
He did that to express the openness and kinda wild-life feeling, like natural nature (sorry, bad grammar) That kinda feeling I think it's OK to be slightly wild there.
Fine performance of one of the finest violin concertos. Much better than the overdone histrionics of Janine Jansen, who makes the final movement sound as if she's using a hacksaw rather than a bow.
Can anyone explain to me-WHY Prokofiev wrote a Topic, which is obviously in 5/4-in 4/4!?! In my opinion - only and only - to make it difficult for the Orchestra ... Ie. Some say to him - "to make it interesting" ... (Nobody disputes the virtuosity of the soloist, the orchestra and the great Gergiev).
just because the man has now"show" and glamour, other than true musicianship and integrety , he is "undoubtely boring" ????? I bet you are not a musician
Actually I am, and I know the concerto well (and played it). I admire Kavakos as one of the best violinist today, but he is not my favorite in this concerto. His technique his amazing, but not as creative and colorful here as others like Jansen - who again is not my favorite in everything either- Listen just to the opening phrase. Unavoidable to compare in youtube, with all these great players at the right side of the screen waiting to show their renditions...! Believe me, glamour doesn´t distract me ;)
boring is a subjective word, and boring by comparison is even more subjective. The expression Kavakos has in the opening line is very different than Jansen's, much more subtle, subdued, and internal. it's personal preference at the end of the day, but I wouldn't diminish his interpretation by calling it boring, that's not what art is about.
He plays that opening in such a hauntingly powerful but not overstated way - musical power that listeners who are desperate to be wowed with colour and vibrancy, perhaps like yourself, will always miss
An amazingly over-rated violinist. Of course, this is the period of technical clones and musical mediocrity, so therefore Kavakos, and many others like him, must be considered.
Perhaps we are too used to artists imposing their personalities and ideas on composers. Would you rather hear Kavakos playing Prokofiev, or Prokofiev being played by Kavakos? We are all secondary to the music, and in my opinion Kavakos allows Prokofiev's music to shine through and not his own ideas and ego...that is artistic integrity.
+muslit Out of the hundreds of bars throughout this entire piece, the first two were already enough to put you off. And all because "he plays the first two repetitions of the opening the same". Way to nitpick
It was enough to put me off for the last two movements. I am familiar with Kavakos's playing. The orchestra I play in just performed the Sibelius Concerto with a new wunderkind, Karen Su. We performed it twice, and she played it exactly the same way both times. Of course, one has to admire the technical proficiency for one so young (17), and the musical maturity will come later. But I would be hard-pressed to know any real difference, if someone asked me, between Kavakos's or Su's rendition, or Hahn's or Ehnes', for that matter, of the same concerto. It all sounds the same to me. A generic musical and technical approach to the violin dominate the scene today. Gone are the days of the Franco-Belgium School, the Italian School, the German School, Russian School, the English School. It's basically German Generic and Russian Tech. There are those who stand out: Janine Jansen, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Sergey Khatchatryan, Christian Tetzlaff - for their musicality and individual approach to the repertoire. But the younger the violinist, it seems, the more profound is the conformity.
He has the best hair out of the whole orchestra
This is because he is the soloist. It is a status symbol, as the sociologists say.
Lol that's what you noticed? ><
It's true though, his hair = goals
u have wort iq

People that have these skills, as Leonidas, do that life is easier!
Kavakos nailed that concerto.
I adore the delicacy of his playing.
He's fantastic violinist!
Amazing how he tackled that horribly awkward finale with such ease!!!
Possibly my favourite interpretation of the finale
BRAVO LEONİDAS "Çok teşekkürler "
I Love the Second Movement and Leonidas play it masterful.
Superb,congratulations,Thank you

Good job...
What a complicated and profound writing is.
@@youngwoo5860 Thanks so much, I'm happy!!!🌹
Incredibilmente bello il suono di Leonidas Kavakos.Bellissima esecuzione anche dell'orchestra
D'Accordo.
In the music hangman video, after Eddy guessed Prokofiev 2, Brett said "If you don't know it, get cultured!"
So here I am.
Two set!! Lets gooo
Bravo Leonidas
Amazing performance!!!!! Well done!!!!
Great sound, perfect tune, very good pace.... Inspiring!
I love this interpretation with Kavakos and Gergiev!!! Thanks a lot!!
Phenomenal💕💕💕
Sublime. Extasis total.
lol 24:27 1st flautist was like "whatever man"
Perfectly done!
In the future, people won't think "Stalin" when 1930s Russia is mentioned, but "Prokofiev."
I hope you are right. It's chilling to remember that Prokofiev and Stalin died on the same day: March 5, 1953.
not2tees I mean people are already doing that, sort of.
Shostakovich, please.

Kavakos the Best!
Dio in terra. Senza parole.
Kavakos is leading for all time.
Muito bom!! Bravo!Bravi! Very well!
Top performance!
Great!!!
But, what a wonderful orchestral music he lead! ^^
Wondering if Kavakos could spare Gergiev a little hair!
Wonderful violinist. Heifetz told to his students , " Do not wear eye glasses when you play by heart" . I wonder why he said that.
This is not the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory! This is Consert Hall of the Mariinsky theater in Saint-Petersburg! (3 stage)
In the second movement the winds are so cute
looking forward to hear Vadim Repin playing this piece in Zagreb;D
24:27 the upset flautist haha... you're being filmed man, where's the professional face at?

24:42
why does gergiev take a toothpick as conductor's baton? suppose he was dining when the concert began.
This is a Stradivari toothpick, specially suited for concertos played with Strad violins.
Does any one else here a man's voice from 12:20 to 12:40 ?
I don't, but probably missed it?
12:14 sounds a bit weird to play open string E.
He did that to express the openness and kinda wild-life feeling, like natural nature (sorry, bad grammar)
That kinda feeling
I think it's OK to be slightly wild there.
It's also in the score
16:34 this is some Stravinsky-esque stuff
1:34 6:35 13:18

La vie en rose...
This is definitely not Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory
23:37 is like some kind of "Lick" in the 3rd movement.
Stop it with the toothpick, you all behave as if it was your first time seeing Gergiev conduct
00:18
Between the movement (in my headphones)... I heard my mate, who lives in a different room, cough. I am pissed
It's irresistable! Even when they can't hear the music, they are triggered to cough...
He's kinda out of control for some moments tho and it's not that bad because it only gives character to the orchestra which is kinda cool I guess.
Is the conductor using a tooth pic ?
Valerie Gergiev is knowed by the nickname: "toothpic zar"

I just want to meet up with those 9 people who clicked the dislike button and have a cute little chit-chat.
The soloist plays by himself. Dutch concert
I've never really understood the first movement.
I feel Rachmaninoff
i swear to god he has done keratin on hair
Hi, emotional value! Way past virtuosity exessive.
Its so frustrating watching Gergiev-his beat seems to have no connection with what is going on in the orchestra.
LOL Toothpick Concerto
Kavakos is really great, but he talks too much.
1910th .... what

what is amazingly over-rated about him, specifically? Do you have big reasons to back up your big statements? I hope so.
Jonathan Garabedian, Leonidas just plays the notes, no personality at all!

simple...jealousy
I don't like his posture holding his bow and his intonation is middle-rate, I am sorry!
I guess yours is way better :)
he plays the first two repetitions of the opening exactly the same, in the 2nd position - how boring, how unmusical
+muslit you must be joking son.
+Nathan Selman No, I'm not joking, and I'm not your son
