An atmosphere of hatred was created in that studio. Adults became conditioned to think it was okay to openly attack children, which is just bonkers. Jess is manipulative and conniving, but Jojo didn't deserve to be attacked by adults. Jojo was incredibly brave to have been able to get through the atrocious behavior aimed at her.

Jill trying to throw Chloe under the bus to seek a negative reaction from Chloe. Yet Jill was sooo happy even when they returned after all the trash talking she did about them, Chloe specifically.
Because Chloe was (IS) incredibly popular on social media and Jill wanted to jump on her coat tails Then Chloe started competing again, and suddenly she was a threat to Kendall, so Jill started being nasty again Then Chloe joined the Irreplacables, so Jill was all buddy buddy again; except when Chloe got a solo at Nationals and then it "wasn't FAIR because she LEFT and Kendall's not the focus anymore!!" Now, nobody cares what Kendall is up to and Chloe's killin' the social media game. How much ya wanna bet Kendall SUDDENLY has time to call her every so often?
Ashlee blew the lid off all of this BS the other day when she said the mother's were just doing their job. That WAS their job, to stir the pot and cause conflict. Jess and probably even JoJo knew this.

Her concerts and messages have been wholesome and directed her juvenile fans to be kind, be themselves, to obey Mom/Dad, to not bully and other responsible messages. Which she lives by, too. Why would you then say she doesn't know right from wrong? She is very responsible. Doesn't drink, smoke or do questionable behavior. She lives with her parents and they are close. All I can think of is that you are biased against her being gay. Or asking that a network Not only do media that is traditional on marriage and leave out other people, like LGBTQ+ people. JoJo honestly struck me as a neurodivergent (adhd) kid that didn't know how to control her impulses. I felt bad for her. I have been there. Its not fun having people make fun of you and you can't figure out why because you are just trying to have fun and be yourself.
I think Jess never taught Jojo what’s acceptable vs unacceptable behaviour and how to not be impulsive… so when Jojo did things she didn’t get the reaction she expected. This meant that the only real time she was around other kids (maybe she did some home-school group activities) was at the dance studio which was her mother's studio.

While I don’t condone the behaviour I think it’s understandable. From the beginning Jess has been creating drama. She’s been talking badly about the kids and sometimes in front of them. So I can understand the moms frustration and deciding to give Jess her own treatment. For JoJo it seems like she is opportunistic and a bit prideful while that’s not the worst thing ever it can be very uncomfortable for the girls to be around. There’s nothing wrong with Jojo being confident by there’s something call tact and she lacks it. So again I can’t really blame the girls for not wanting to be associated with Jojo. I mean who wants to be associated with someone that rubs them the wrong way. Beside how can Jojo expect to make friends if she wants to take Nias place in the dance it just makes things awkward. But Kira making fun of Jojo was really terrible for an adult to do especially in front of the kid. It was below the belt no matter what Jess did she should have been better than her. Thanks for making the titles of each episode be descriptive of the main storyline. It really helps me prioritize which ones I want to watch first. It’d be really boring if they were all “Season 5 Episode 3” or “Season 5 Episode 4” but you make them more interesting, thank you for that.
From what I can see it is the pragmatic that Dance Moms and to a lesser extent AUDC that got her started as a name. JoJo was a big Dance Moms fan before she was on the show. It comes across more as the networking 'friendships' rather than them actually being friends.

Remember when Jess told Jojo to go back in the room and tell Abby she was sorry she walked out of room (even though it was fine telling Abby "if you yell at me, I'm going to cry". And another time when Jess asked Jojo to suck it up and be respectful to Abby, when Abby still didn't really deserve it. Abby said she's been to their home and visited, dinner, etc. I think they also felt sorry cause Abby really didn't' have anyone much in her life. Loyalty was a big deal to the Siwa's.
It’s not easy to leave an abuser especially when it’s someone you see as a mentor. Especially when you grew up with them around and looked up to them. But I do agree she should definitely cut ties with that women. I’m glad all the others have.
@@MsMeeka-lr6uf I think one issue is that JoJo was a mega fan before she got on the show so she is closer to the girls that chose to do season 8 than the OG girls in that regard and some of them have done collabs with her post show.

I get calling out some of the times Jojo was insensitive or talking about her behavior to Jess to get her to work on it but this was just too much. Kira mocking her speech was disgusting (no wonder some of the girls did the same in Australia!) and the moms, Abby, and even sometimes the girls were against Jojo. Poor kid really had nobody on her side!
iirc the girls did it when they were in Ireland on a tour with Abby (if you are talking about the clip where they are on stage mocking her), JoJo found out about it in Australia. This was something else that Nia was left out of (going on tour, Abby didn't want Nia or JoJo in Australia either. The show realised that she was going and turned it into part of their filming so they had to come too. That is why they show Nia and JoJo doing that mini concert while the others are doing meet and greets)

They didn't leave the show at all because of the ballet number. That was just how production spun the storyline of them leaving. They left because of the Nickelodeon contract
@@amandamandamands if you watched MackZBoss’s video she did a while ago regarding Jess & Jojo, there is speculation that the duet may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back and really made them realize they truly didn’t want to be on the show anymore, but rather take the deal with Nick. They definitely didn’t leave JUST because of the duet though.
@@JennaeBradshaw Did she though, cause the reality is that we don't know. All of them on the show (girls and mums) have said that when they were shown crying they were actually crying. Most of the time they weren't crying over what the show said they were crying over though, sometimes it was a totally different day. eg JoJo has said that the day that they were all having to critique her she was crying because she was so happy that she got her jacket, it had nothing to do with the things that the other girls were saying.

Man. Season 5 really did bring out the absolute worst in everyone. Disgusting behavior from everyone involved. (Holly’s doing better today than the first few episodes, but I’m still really concerned here)
These later seasons episodes are so interesting because season 5 to 7 is when the show had the most drama. Also abbys reaction to the jojo gift and then saying it wasnt real prada... abby is so rude and snobby and she definitely got an elitist attitude in these later seasons as well. She really thought she was all that and a bag of chips. Maybe shes been eating to many bags of chips....(this is not body shaming...it is a quote from Yvette on season 2 of abbys ultimate dance competition...if you know you know)
It’s the way my jaw kept dropping because of the mean stuff the moms did. One moment that caught my eye was when Kira told everyone that her daughter should be higher on the prymid because of point ,,,,, but in the last episode, Jess said her kid should be seen as higher because she scored better , and Kira attacked her completely. It’s like holy shit the hypocrisy and double standards. Also why the hell did they all think it was okay to bully jojo the way they did. Literally the moms picking on a child. It doesn’t matter if you think someone is annoying you don’t tell them to their face and to their mom’s face how bad and obnoxious of a kid she is?? Jojo clearly suffered from adhd and man hearing the moms complain about how she’s too loud and stuff really brought me back because I faced the (not nearly to the same degree as jojo) some of the same bullying and insults. I think Jess was awful for how she treated brynn but honestly she has her daughter we’re treated the same way she treated Ashlee and Brynn the producers just didn’t bother showing the harm done to the Siwas. I am by no means a jojo lover or a jess lover but I personally believe that those weeks when jojo filled in with no Chloe, they all took their anger and rage about the situation on the poor kid. I think Abby needed a new target. So many things about the way she was treated pisses me off. Sorry for the rant but I’m goin offfff, Jill told jojo that no she couldn’t be in a group photo… and a season or two later Ashlee brings up how kendall told Brynn that she wasn’t on the team so she had to get outta the photo. This is off topic from this video, but I'd love to see a video from you examining the relationship between Dance Moms and LGBTQIA+ topics - I know that's a pretty huge thing to tackle, but I feel like there's a lot of things to look at. From castmates who've come out as queer (Lennon Torres, Chloe, JoJo, Nicaya, and probably others I'm forgetting), the treatment of queer castmates (such as the lesbophobia Kaya faced), behind the scenes homophobia (like that random video of one of the kids calling their Mom a lesbian? Like, obviously just Childish Ignorance, but worth noting), to queer celebratory stuff (like the Don't Ask, Just Tell dance, the BDA trans dance, Chloe and Christi doing a photoshoot with NOH8 in 2012). It'd be a really interesting retrospective IMO.

Ashlee said that there were quite often solos that didn't get shown, the producers would have various storyline ideas and if the mum didn't create enough drama that week then their child's solo wasn't shown because there wasn't a storyline to support it. She said that Kalani had lots of unaired solos because Kira wouldn't step up the drama. She said that all of Brynn's solos were shown because she did what was required to get them shown - her attitude was that this is the job.

@@Kayla-jy6vh Also Nia has said that when she was given solos they would be choreographed so that she was doing things on her weaker side so that she wouldn't look as good, which then also played into the narrative that she wasn't good enough to be on the team. Yes one of Kalani's unaired solos got a perfect score and apparently Maddie also got a perfect score that week so it was a Maddie is the best week and so no Kalani dance.
Abby again throwing personal insults at Melissa is not surprising that Melissa and Abby are not friends maybe they weren’t friends it seemed like she got along with their dad but not Melissa. Her also blaming Melissa for maddies opportunities is crazy. I wonder if it’s true?

@@jadynariana I saw many times when all t he girls were sweet to Jojo (and she to them) and showing like she was good in the group. I saw an interview with all the girls sitting and having a good time kidding around. And Kalani, Nia and even Maddie all seemed to be fine in the behind the scenes parts. And friendships after Jojo left the show. The girls seemed happy when others won and I think they were close.
I consider myself a dance moms fan, but I’ve only watched clips on RUclips and not full episodes. And while I’d heard about most of this stuff, I never realized that it was all in one episode. I never knew how cruel everyone was to Jojo in *one* episode, good god
Jess and JoJo came from another of Abby's shows so they knew the more drama you bring, the more time you stay. Kira was imitating and making fun of JoJo, that was awful. As far as Kendall having experience being a mean girl, a lot of people had said she was very unwelcoming to put it kindly.
The damage done to Jojo by every adult in the room must be huge. She was pulled apart. In the end Jojo was often the most mature and great at looking after the others. Jess is the problem.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I honestly don’t see how Melissa not telling the other moms about Maddie’s opportunities is selfish. Melissa went out to scout for these opportunities alone (if it was Abby she would’ve given Maddie’s leftovers to the other girls, for sure and that argument wouldn’t have happened) and none of the other moms or girls are entitled to Melissa’s work. Melissa is obviously going to look for opportunities for her kids and it’s up to the other moms to do the same for their girls.
For me it’s more of a hypocrisy issues, Melissa constantly said she was a team player and wanted all of the girls to get opportunities to prove it she didn’t. Does she had to help the other kids of course not but don’t act like you care when you don’t.

Melissa will look for opportunities for Maddie and Kenzie and congratulate the other girls on whatever their mother pulls up for them. That’s being a team player.

@@2turg_2furious Sure, Maddie was the “Star” of the show but usually other dancers were the fan favorites. Producers picked fan favorites since they’ll attract the most of the fanbase. Maddie might’ve been the ‘Star’ but she was one of the most hated by the fanbase. Chloe, for example, was the fan favorite yet she didn’t get the same opportunities or calls that Maddie did, showing that it was Melissa herself that went out to get opportunities for her kids. You can audition for a lot of parts but reject some in favor of others. Auditions are like job applications. Apply to a bunch, see where you’re accepted, pick the best one and turn down the others. She shamed Holly when she did that largely to create drama for the show. Melissa didn’t care what Holly was doing for Nia, she didn’t need to since she was doing the same for her kids and her kids at the time were more successful.
Abby was so mean to Jojo for no good reason like some of the things she did or said to her were just unnecessary. Abby clearly hated Jojo and seems to be very condescending to her and yet she is the only one that she talks to to this day because no one else is. But during Season 7 when Chole, Nia, and Kendall all became one team(like the og team was getting back together) do you know if Kelly was ever contacted? To bring Paige and Brooke back. I assume not because of the lawsuit but I have been wondering about this for awhile.
im pretty sure brooke was in/about to go to college by that time so she wouldn't have been able to and i doubt paige and kelly would have wanted to go back to that environment, it would've been interesting to see them come back tho
Chloe continued to dance & take classes at other studios & dance commercially between her departure & return to the show whereas i believe the Hylands stopped dancing all together after leaving the team, idt they'd have been really able to jump back into competing at the elite team's advanced level being several years out of practice. Also Brooke may have been in college at that point, not sure
But when she first came to ALDC, she walked into that room with the Mom's and kids, some people she didn't know but knew were against them. Had to be nerve wracking.
@@KindCountsDeb3773 Jess admitted on her podcast that a lot of that early behavior is because when she first got there she talked to a producer she had known from AUDC days and asked what she should do to make her spot permanent (knowing full well that Abby wasn't really the one in charge of that) and they told her to bring the drama. I did NOT know that Jess was such a terrible person in this show. Seems like the was the first one jumping at the opportunity to start any of the drama the producers wanted.
she was loud, but I got used to it. She also was kind, joyful, sweet, friendly and other positives. Her work ethic ws awesome, too. After she'd been there a while she was close to the other girls and some Mom's. I remember when Jojo asked for a solo so her ill grandmother could see it, Melissa and some of the Mom's teared up and cried. The kids were supportive, too.
Knowing how everyone knew the only way to keep the show going was to keep the drama up, it’s hard to have a real opinion on anything. But for the kids who honestly believed their job was to dance and be seen dancing by the right people, as if the show itself wasn’t more than enough exposure and popularity, it wasn’t fair to make them think they had to pay for every dance opportunity by being miserable and mistreated.
JoJo has commented that the time that she said it in interview she had been in the interview for ages and it was her favourite producer talking to her. The combination she forgot that it was filming while that was happening. That comes down to how far the producers were willing to manipulate people to get a good soundbite.

While I don’t condone the behaviour I think it’s understandable. From the beginning Jess has been creating drama. She’s been talking badly about the kids and sometimes in front of them. So I can understand the moms frustration and deciding to give Jess her own treatment. For JoJo it seems like she is opportunistic and a bit prideful while that’s not the worst thing ever it can be very uncomfortable for the girls to be around. There’s nothing wrong with Jojo being confident by there’s something call tact and she lacks it. So again I can’t really blame the girls for not wanting to be associated with Jojo. Thanks for making the titles of each episode be descriptive of the main storyline. It really helps me prioritize which ones I want to watch first. It’d be really boring if they were all “Season 5 Episode 3” or “Season 5 Episode 4” but you make them more interesting, thank you for that.

From what I can see it is the pragmatic that Dance Moms and to a lesser extent AUDC that got her started as a name. JoJo was a big Dance Moms fan before she was on the show. It comes across more as the networking 'friendships' rather than them actually being friends.

Remember when Jess told Jojo to go back in the room and tell Abby she was sorry she walked out of room (even though it was fine telling Abby "if you yell at me, I'm going to cry". And another time when Jess asked Jojo to suck it up and be respectful to Abby, when Abby still didn't really deserve it. Abby said she's been to their home and visited, dinner, etc. I think they also felt sorry cause Abby really didn't' have anyone much in her life. Loyalty was a big deal to the Siwa's.
It’s not easy to leave an abuser especially when it’s someone you see as a mentor. Especially when you grew up with them around and looked up to them. But I do agree she should definitely cut ties with that women. I’m glad all the others have.

iirc the girls did it when they were in Ireland on a tour with Abby (if you are talking about the clip where they are on stage mocking her), JoJo found out about it in Australia. This was something else that Nia was left out of (going on tour, Abby didn't want Nia or JoJo in Australia either. The show realised that she was going and turned it into part of their filming so they had to come too. That is why they show Nia and JoJo doing that mini concert while the others are doing meet and greets)

These later seasons episodes are so interesting because season 5 to 7 is when the show had the most drama. It’s the way my jaw kept dropping because of the mean stuff the moms did. One moment that caught my eye was when Kira told everyone that her daughter should be higher on the prymid because of point ,,,,, but in the last episode, Jess said her kid should be seen as higher because she scored better , and Kira attacked her completely. It’s like holy shit the hypocrisy and double standards. Also why the hell did they all think it was okay to bully jojo the way they did. Literally the moms picking on a child. It doesn’t matter if you think someone is annoying you don’t tell them to their face and to their mom’s face how bad and obnoxious of a kid she is?? Jojo clearly suffered from adhd and man hearing the moms complain about how she’s too loud and stuff really brought me back because I faced the (not nearly to the same degree as jojo) some of the same bullying and insults. It’s terrible. I think Jess was awful for how she treated brynn but honestly she has her daughter we’re treated the same way she treated Ashlee and Brynn the producers just didn’t bother showing the harm done to the Siwas. I am by no means a jojo lover or a jess lover but I personally believe that those weeks when jojo filled in with no Chloe, they all took their anger and rage about the situation on the poor kid. I think Abby needed a new target. So many things about the way she was treated pisses me off. Sorry for the rant but I’m goin offfff, Jill told jojo that no she couldn’t be in a group photo… and a season or two later Ashlee brings up how kendall told Brynn that she wasn’t on the team so she had to get outta the photo. It’s no wonder where kendall got her mean girl behaviors (I’m sure she’s a wonderful person now, she was after all just a kid and I’m sure she’s grown and with the environment she was brought up in and with a mom like Jill it’s no shock to me). This is off topic from this video, but I'd love to see a video from you examining the relationship between Dance Moms and LGBTQIA+ topics - I know that's a pretty huge thing to tackle, but I feel like there's a lot of things to look at. From castmates who've come out as queer (Lennon Torres, Chloe, JoJo, Nicaya, and probably others I'm forgetting), the treatment of queer castmates (such as the lesbophobia Kaya faced), behind the scenes homophobia (like that random video of one of the kids calling their Mom a lesbian? Like, obviously just Childish Ignorance, but worth noting), to queer celebratory stuff (like the Don't Ask, Just Tell dance, the BDA trans dance, Chloe and Christi doing a photoshoot with NOH8 in 2012). It'd be a really interesting retrospective IMO.

Ashlee said that there were quite often solos that didn't get shown, the producers would have various storyline ideas and if the mum didn't create enough drama that week then their child's solo wasn't shown because there wasn't a storyline to support it. She said that Kalani had lots of unaired solos because Kira wouldn't step up the drama. She said that all of Brynn's solos were shown because she did what was required to get them shown - her attitude was that this is the job.

Yes one of Kalani's unaired solos got a perfect score and apparently Maddie also got a perfect score that week so it was a Maddie is the best week and so no Kalani dance.

I agree she never deserved hate from the moms but there are scenes that show Jojo as not being the nicest to the girls maybe they just weren't used to her personality but it was kinda evident she ruffled their feathers. @@jadynariana I saw many times when all t he girls were sweet to Jojo (and she to them) and showing like she was good in the group. I saw an interview with all the girls sitting and having a good time kidding around. And Kalani, Nia and even Maddie all seemed to be fine in the behind the scenes parts. And friendships after Jojo left the show. The girls seemed happy when others won and I think they were close.

Jess and JoJo came from another of Abby's shows so they knew the more drama you bring, the more time you stay. Kira was imitating and making fun of JoJo, that was awful. As far as Kendall having experience being a mean girl, a lot of people had said she was very unwelcoming to put it kindly.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I honestly don’t see how Melissa not telling the other moms about Maddie’s opportunities is selfish. Melissa went out to scout for these opportunities alone (if it was Abby she would’ve given Maddie’s leftovers to the other girls, for sure and that argument wouldn’t have happened) and none of the other moms or girls are entitled to Melissa’s work. Melissa is obviously going to look for opportunities for her kids and it’s up to the other moms to do the same for their girls.
For me it’s more of a hypocrisy issues, Melissa constantly said she was a team player and wanted all of the girls to get opportunities to prove it she didn’t. Does she had to help the other kids of course not but don’t act like you care when you don’t.
They turned on Holly when she did it, and Abby was vile to Nia.

Melissa will look for opportunities for Maddie and Kenzie and congratulate the other girls on whatever their mother pulls up for them. That’s being a team player.

But like I said Melissa had chances to prove she was a team player and she didn’t (this being one of them). Also if Melissa was finding her own opportunities still makes her hypocrite. @@2turg_2furious Sure, Maddie was the “Star” of the show but usually other dancers were the fan favorites. Producers picked fan favorites since they’ll attract the most of the fanbase. Maddie might’ve been the ‘Star’ but she was one of the most hated by the fanbase. Chloe, for example, was the fan favorite yet she didn’t get the same opportunities or calls that Maddie did, showing that it was Melissa herself that went out to get opportunities for her kids.
You can audition for a lot of parts but reject some in favor of others. Auditions are like job applications. Apply to a bunch, see where you’re accepted, pick the best one and turn down the others. She shamed Holly when she did that largely to create drama for the show. Melissa didn’t care what Holly was doing for Nia, she didn’t need to since she was doing the same for her kids and her kids at the time were more successful.

Abby was so mean to Jojo for no good reason like some of the things she did or said to her were just unnecessary. Abby clearly hated Jojo and seems to be very condescending to her and yet she is the only one that she talks to to this day because no one else is. But during Season 7 when Chole, Nia, and Kendall all became one team(like the og team was getting back together) do you know if Kelly was ever contacted? To bring Paige and Brooke back. I assume not because of the lawsuit but I have been wondering about this for awhile.
im pretty sure brooke was in/about to go to college by that time so she wouldn't have been able to and i doubt paige and kelly would have wanted to go back to that environment, it would've been interesting to see them come back tho
Chloe continued to dance & take classes at other studios & dance commercially between her departure & return to the show whereas i believe the Hylands stopped dancing all together after leaving the team, idt they'd have been really able to jump back into competing at the elite team's advanced level being several years out of practice. Also Brooke may have been in college at that point, not sure

@@KindCountsDeb3773 Jess admitted on her podcast that a lot of that early behavior is because when she first got there she talked to a producer she had known from AUDC days and asked what she should do to make her spot permanent (knowing full well that Abby wasn't really the one in charge of that) and they told her to bring the drama. It worked but it definitely wasn't a good look at this point
I did NOT know that Jess was such a terrible person in this show. Seems like the was the first one jumping at the opportunity to start any of the drama the producers wanted.

Honestly jojo could get a bit annoying at times but it doesn’t give an excuse for the moms and the girls for treating her like that
she was loud, but I got used to it. She also was kind, joyful, sweet, friendly and other positives. Her work ethic ws awesome, too. After she'd been there a while she was close to the other girls and some Mom's. I remember when Jojo asked for a solo so her ill grandmother could see it, Melissa and some of the Mom's teared up and cried. The kids were supportive, too.

Knowing how everyone knew the only way to keep the show going was to keep the drama up, it’s hard to have a real opinion on anything. But for the kids who honestly believed their job was to dance and be seen dancing by the right people, as if the show itself wasn’t more than enough exposure and popularity, it wasn’t fair to make them think they had to pay for every dance opportunity by being miserable and mistreated.

JoJo has commented that the time that she said it in interview she had been in the interview for ages and it was her favourite producer talking to her. The combination she forgot that it was filming while that was happening. That comes down to how far the producers were willing to manipulate people to get a good soundbite.
