Replacing Rusted out Floors in a Classic Truck

- I've been avoiding this job for a while now. Floor repair is always such ugly, time consuming work that you just end up covering with carpet. These old Chevy trucks always rust out the same way. The rockers and cab corners will with road debris and hold moisture while rusting out everything in its path. The patch panels are cheap and relatively easy to replace, just dirty dirty work. I managed to get everything completely welded, seam sealed and painted. Now it's time to work on something fun!

One of the VERY FEW You-tubers videos I REALLY LOOK.FORWARD to watching and I’m always checking for your new videos. Great content! No B.S in these videos! Lots of talent building these cars! Skip the reply to save your time to make more videos please! Thanks for sharing your hot rod builds with those of us who can only dream of building hot rods!
Great floor job ! I love the progress, respect from the Turkey.
thanks buddy!
Just found your channel about a week ago. Just trying to catch up with you projects.
You been working on all my favorites.
My all time favorite car is ‘55 Chevy. I don’t care if it’s a post, 2or4 door, or pick up version.
One day I’ll own one.
Right now I am waiting to get started on a ‘68 beetle powered by a ‘98 Dodge Dakota RT powertrain. It’s what I had hangin around.
Enjoy watching you videos, keep at it.
Jim from New Hampshire
nice! thanks fors topping in. sounds like you got a wicked project on the go
Great floor repair Dan
Looking good! Welding and grinding sucks but your always happy its done.
haha yeah, rough couple of days
I hate floor pans!! Absolute Bain of my existence. Just got my Camaro off jack stands after a few week period of throwing swear words at the rusty floors. You're crushing the timeline on that truck buddy...🤘🤘
yeah it sucks! thanks for watching man
Those new tailgates you mentioned aren't as strong as originals. A friend of mine ponied up and bought a aftermarket. He's standing on the gate backed up to a dock, picks up 150 lbs and the tailgate gave up and dumped him. Luckily he didn't get seriously hurt. He did get seriously mad lol. So its something to consider. He ended up getting an old tailgate and fixing it. Floors look great. Thanks for sharing
haha well i guess im happy with my junky one
@@DDSpeedShop i wouldn't have thought they would be that bad. His buckled in the middle and came off the pivots.
.... 'They' may have used a lil Boron in our steel,in the day. }...which made it harder/stiffer{¡
I really apprciate your diligence and attitude, and the floors look great.
No part of this is boring. Please show how you do it. Looks good. Function over form!
haha i found it horribly boring
The truck is coming along great ! What a difference from the first day she rolled into the garage lol. Love watching this build - keep up the great work !
thanks buddy! everyday i get a little closer
the truck keeps getting better everyday. looks solid. nice job
a little better every day
You are the most chill guy doin this kind of work on RUclips! I love watchin your work!
haha ill take that as a compliment
Floors looking great! I can weld but have never been good at rust repair. Keep up the good work.
Great Job, she is really coming along!
I love the way the truck is turning out. Floors came out banging.. One hell of a job.. And the tailgate looks awesome.. It is what it is. It works.. Keep up the great work.. And keep the wrenches a turnin and the tires on burnin..
alwasy the plan. thanks for watching my friend
Great job! I hope you stumble across a good tailgate just to help show off your good work! I would have liked to have seen a metal floor in the bed maybe made out of diamond plated steel but it’s yours not mine so you build it how you want it! Still going to be a cool truck.
yeah ive got my eyes peeled for a nice gate
Awesome job!
Thanks!
the floor looks great
15.5 subs!!! U are doing something right! Half ass customs is too! Your NY. Fan.
Man, you must never sleep...Truck's looking great..I've had several 67-72 short fleet C10s..you're making me want another one!
yeah they kinda grow on you
She's come a long ways in almost a months time. Lovin the progress! 👍
Cheers from Saskatchewan
thansk buddy! yeah lots of change it a month. should be driving in 6 weeks total i hope
Loving the frequent uploads and your content! Thanks for sharing the ugly, time consuming work we've all got to do from time to time.
excellent, thanks for watching
The ads I gotta watch for you.... Brutal.
Coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing.
haha sorry buddy, but i do really appreciate it
Looks better every video. Keep it up. Seems like when I got one running it pumped me up to other stuff done to drive around.
yeah hearing it run makes life much better haha
I love the speed of which you bang through these projects. While many will probably like your 4d to 2d conversions, I REALLY dig this truck! Keep at it!
yup im trying to do common cars so people can see how easy it is to bring em back
Looks great Dan looking forward to hearing it run.
thanks buddy!
Great job Dan! Floor repair may not be a glory job but it makes all the deference in the world. It's not out there for everyone to see once it's covered over but you will know what it looks like.Famous words from my big brother. The model T looks great and later on the roadster will too.One step at a time. Open wheel hot rods have always been a favorite!
yeah im excited for an open wheel!
Had a crappy day!!! Then I see a new DD speed shop video. All is well with the world!!! Attitude improved greatly!
haha glad i could help in some small way
Good job on the flooring, looks good.
Every time I watch I’m just itching to get a garage. 20’w x 21’ deep is what I can get with the pad that’s there and permits. Looks good should look sweet when complete
thats all ya need. anything is better than nothing haha
I love that Green. I hope u paint it the original color . really cool stuff Dan.
thanks buddy!
Amazing amount of work. I'd wait till ÀLL assembled interior, full fuel tank, and bed before cutting front coils.
You gotta get through the miserable boring stuff so you can be rewarded by billowing smoke from the rear tires. It's definitely worth it. Well, for us it is. Looking awesome. Happy trails.
haha thanks buddy. im ready to get back to the fun stuff
The floor is looking great! Those wheel tubs were a good price. The color keeps growing on me! My dad had a white version of your truck minus a V8, I think his was a six banger, but my memory doesn’t serve me too well.
thanks buddy! theyre awesome trucks!
Looking real good still think it's a keeper for your parts pick-up hotrod!!!!
Awesome job on the floor and cab repair!
thanks buddy!
Nice job on the cab buddy

Im stoked to its looking very cool Dan!!..floors look great&the cool short Bed....Tail gate looks ok to me
thanks buddy
Looking good, can't wait to hear it make some noise!
yeah itll be cool
Interested in seeing how you get 60 psi fuel pressure to fuel rail. Looking great
hopefully itll go easy haha
Man I love what you are doing. Now I need to find a project. Keep up the great work.
nice! yet out there and find somthing you dont need haha
Truck is really shapin' up Dan. Cordless grinders are the way to go.
yeah im loving it
Do you notice much difference between the new steel and old steel as far as quality and thickness? Wondering if these patch panels will last?
yeah same gauge steel. should last for a while, especially if its not driven in the winter
Love the content. An other great project, almost done. You don t waste any time. Its awesome. Looking forward to the next build
yeah i like to stay busy
Great job. It's looking good. Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
thanks!
Coming along awesome job
thanks!
Dam Dan that truck floor looks freaking GREAT. Well done man, I thought the tailgate looked fine for what it is. Craig, OHIO
haha yeah its a decent gate for the time being
The old thing is in good shape now bud. Well worth The effort 👍
yeah its been a big transformation
Lots of work but it's looking good. The floors came out great . It was a busy weekend here with me out of town. Well I'll be looking forward to seeing how you do the fuel pump and start up. 🤔
Getting there! Looking good!
thanks man! thanks again for last night
Looks great, what a difference!
haha yeah. wasnt much to start with
Nice to see more progress happening on the C10.
yeah its coming along
Camera looks great today 👍
sweet! thanks buddy
Yep the truck is coming together, the floor, the bed. Fuel tank going under? Then you could patch the fuel hole in the cab.
just gunna re-use the old tank in the cab
Are you putting the Chevy Suburban gas tank to get it out of the cab? Good work on the bed and cab
nope gunna use the factory tank
great job its looking awesome
thanks!
I like the time laps on floor.👍
PS... a manual transmission would be fun for beating it around town... and the pedals are already there.
haha yeah sure would. kinda out of the price range though
Looks good. Love the build. What's the plans for paint? Are you going to try to match the factory paint/patina?
probably just leave it as is. maybe shoot it primer or flat black
Gonna be looking for a buyer right soon. More money for parts. Flat head for the T? Or something from your stash?
yeah hopefully it can make a few bucks so I can fix up the old junk haha
Awesome job, keep the videos coming, where do you get your seam sealer from? Need some for my 78 Firebird with a 455 . Shayne Central Alberta
i got it from rondex. i know theyre cross canada. might be one near you
DD Speed Shop Thanks I will check to see if any near by,
The trucks looking good bud wasnt sure about the way u moved diff but hey it worked good for u that's what counts keep up good work that l s in there will real work out good for u
Great video man! Always good content. Thanks
thanks buddy!
It must be mentioned that you play some damn good music during your sped up interludes. I basically don't know any of the music, but I like very nearly all of it. Thanks for that too.
awesome thanks! ive been working on the music
Are using the stock gas tank? Ls fuel pump will work in that tank?
Great progress 👍🏾👍🏾
yeah its getting there!
Great work. What bed liner are you using?
whatever was on sale at canadian tire haha
@@DDSpeedShop AWESOME LOL
That truck is gonna turn out sweet
thanks buddy!
why don’t you put a small gas tank in rear to eliminate in the cab and are you selling the the mags
Nice job! Do you overlap the floor pan slightly? Or butt fit all the seams?
overlapped about a half inch
@@DDSpeedShop amen brother, thx for the quick response. I just received my driver floorpan for my 92 dodge, hope it comes out as nice as yours
Just subscribed to your Chanel, and wow you really move on ur projects, gives me motivation to get some of mine done
awesome! thanks for the support
She looks almost factory! You gonna plug weld the pans down to the braces under the floor? And I can sympathize with you on sucky work on the floor, I essentially put a whole new bottom of the cab into my pickup when I rebuilt it, it was a boatload of work, and somehow it took way longer than I anticipated
yup still need some finish welding on the underside
DD Speed Shop if you get bored take a look at the part 1 video for my rebuild on my channel. Pretty lame videos but it’s all pictures of what I did, although I didn’t give LMC half as much money for it lol
D have you heard of a company LMC ?
Cleaned up a bit. Looks like you have your pile its license also. I do the same thing, move the piles around. Cool vid, you make it look so effortless. How far, or crazy, are you going to get with the beauty touches? Get it together and enjoy it? Great job.
just fixing it up a little and passing it along for the next guy to customize. im just doing the hard ugly metalwork
Ole truck is looking good man....won't be long before she is ripping the streets up....lol....
yeah should be a fun unit
My old 87 tailgate was like that I took it layed it on a piece of plywood in garage floor pulled up on it a straitened it out pretty good lol
haha sounds fool proof
@@DDSpeedShop lol took the bow out of it pretty much were it would open close good
Looking like its getting a good refresh on roaring to life again.bet youll be happy to be done with the body work and actaully get to run it.what are plans for it,flipping it or keeping for awhile just asking since you did all the hard work.??please get rid of that ugly steering wheel.if you gotta sell a motor and get one of those modular chrome complete steering wheels a nice thick spoke and rubber would look nice or even a welded chain steering wheel would be cooler than that clunky hog in it now.plus new wires n signals would be another upgrade.snookie pa.
yeah id do a few things if i was gunna keep it thats for sure haha
A couple I bolts a drill and a ratchet strap you can fix that tailgate I just fixed mine like that
yup for sure.
Its so easy
Friggn nice work Dan , what kind and size of pipes will you have on the truck ? Cheers
i have some left over 3 inch from the 57.....
Nice , I hope you make it loud and obnoxious . Cheers
Really looking good Dan! Fast progress. Gonna be a real nice truck. Keep on keeping on
thanks john! its a solid truck now
looking good. I think you can straighten that tailgate for zero money ?
yeah i might peel it off and bend it back
Driver side floor pan should have been tucked closer to the rocker but it does look good.
cmon down and fix er up for me
Looking awesome...
thanks buddy!
Great work guy!!!!
thanks howard!
@@DDSpeedShop you are very welcome!!! I'm grateful for RUclips. I know you wouldn't like strangers at your house just standing about watching you work. But with RUclips, I can....You have a lot of skills and talent, and experiance will reveal even more!
Howie
Looking Good!
thanks!
Nice job!
thanks!
It’s a fine truck.
thanks my friend! you are the expert
Are you going to move the gas tank to the back?
nope staying in the cab
@@DDSpeedShop yep, herd that like 30 seconds after posting.
Guess that answered that question.
Over all a month has gone by but everything to running is only a week at the very most and the exhaust will take some time unless you buy some longer pieces.... I guess you have to weld your o2 sensors in. A couple glass packs and then out the back since that is most popular. Be nice to have cut outs but it is for sale so send it. If you drive it, your going to want to keep it. Get some pictures
Nice job!!!!!!!
thanks buddy
What where you welding at I mean speed and feed if you don’t mind my asking bro
i have an auto set, makes life so easy
I sum it up with this absolute greatness best wishes to you and yours!!!😀😃😄😋😁😊
thanks
