- This car came to us and we wanted to show the horrendous work that was done to it. This should never happen, this is what not to do to a frame. Hopefully this video encourages others to beware of scam "car builders". As always thanks for watching! Leave your opinions in the comments.

I’ve been doing alignment and suspension work for over 40 years. Collision and frame work, custom fabrication as well. Believe me, I’ve seen some really scary stuff. When you’re going 70mph down a 2 lane highway chances are, you WILL pass a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction that has issues like this truck, including newer salvage titled vehicles that have been scabbed back together and flipped for profit with total disregard for safety. I have refused to work on vehicles after being asked to “just do the best you can with it” when they are unsafe for serious liability reasons. Then I see them on the road, knowing that safety issues were never corrected. I always tell customers and friends to please let me check out any vehicle before they buy it. I’ve seen rusted out unibodies filled with newspaper and bondo and sculpted into shape, covered with undercoating! You were very gracious in your critique.
I'm a self taught welder. My freshman year in high school I had never welded before. I chose intro to welding and finished all the welding requirements in the first 2 weeks. I loved it and I'm pretty good at it. I'm 50 now, and even in high school, I could weld better than that. I also take pride in my work and would never put a weld like that on anything and leave it. I also will not ever half ass any kind of work. I have quit jobs before because they wanted me to do work like that. I will never stoop to that level! I taught my son that no matter what the job is, if you take pride in your work, you will always produce good work. How good is always up to you.
It’s sad that there are people in this world that would do this kind of work and take money for it without blinking an eye. You’re a good man for making this right.
Yes it is, Thank you so much for watching
As was stated they could have had a reputable frame that is straight for less. This guy that built that is just a thief!
These people are so dumb they think they know everything and aren't wrong
it's also sad that the guy who did the work has five broken ribs and one working eye now.
@@LocoCustoms ... Steve Buscemi eyeballed it.
I hope they take all the evidence you've provided and sue the crap out of who ever built this monstrosity. Looking forward to see what you do with it!
I was born and raised in the diesel and gasoline mechanical field, respectfully that job is a complete disaster, this gentleman is showing step by step every minute detail, obviously the whole truck must be redone, can't be used on the road as is.
@@JesusTorres-qr1gzyou don't need to be a mechanic of anything to know this thing is trashed 😂✌️
A friend and I built a few hot rods and we always made sure everything was fully welded at the correct heat setting for whatever thickness of metal. We also checked measurements and straightness every step of the way. Later on my friend was actually doing work for a 4WD store and occasionally I helped him with roll bar and body modifications. The guy who built that chassis should be named and shamed.
You guys know what you're doing, love to see it! Keep up the good work, we need more builders like you out there. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it's much appreciated!
Yeah this is as bad as it gets. I've seen some really nice looking welds fail, even factory stuff, and I've seen dirty farm welds hold for decades, but these guys weren't even trying to make it right. Nothing is straight, nothing is fully welded, some of it's just hanging in the breeze. Just wow. Based on what the video says they paid tens of thousands to have this work done. Those welds look like you handed a 6 year old a welder and told him to stick the pieces together.
I think some people have sheep written on their forehead. I work with some who shelled out Ka to server their Volvo. Claimed the rack and pinion slipt apart among other things but, was still able to drive it in to the shop and they found it during inspection. Pretty sure they got taken for a ride. The. Their brand new kia needed work right off the lot. They mentioned how much it costed. I wouldn't think they would mention any dollar amount when it's that new and under warranty. THEN guys like Mr frame fab get a hold.of these people and really wring them for money. I have to wonder if this video will be used in small claims court.
@@cdoublejj Me too, but I think a fraud case seeking repayment is called for.
Greg, you my friend are so right....NAMED & SHAMED......
My jaw hit the floor when you said a premade frame at $16k+ install would’ve been a better deal than the owner paid for this. That’s absolutely nuts. I feel so bad for the owner. Thanks for being picky and doing a good job!!
Must be $1600.....
That's what gets me too is they could have just bought a pre made frame for this truck. These welds look like trash too.
"Down under' here in New Zealand, we can builds rods and modify vehicles legally. But they have to be certified by approved engineers. We often grumble about this imposition but it keeps this kind of crap off the road. Back in the 70s before certification, believe me, we had plenty of 'backyard' stuff like this. This is also why Kiwis are very careful when importing a pre-built rod from the US. One guy I know fell in big time, and he had to do what you're doing here, a complete structural rebuild. Thanks for taking the trouble to make the video and put it up.
This video is EXACTLY what i enjoy watching in build videos. Way too many videos skip the " build" part where all the skill and talent is presented. Love your videos!
That anyone would take money for that work and endanger lives destroys my faith in humanity. But you have restored it. Thank you
Thank you very much Mark! Glad you liked the video and stay tuned for the next video to see how we fix this up its going to be really nice for the owners
So glad you did this video. There are lots of wannabe "builders" out there. As a hot rod fabricator I have seen many unsafe and unsightly "builds" which never should be driven. I have built many hot rods from scratch which were driven hard, handled great and very safe. It takes care, attention to detail, experience and knowledge to do the job right. Thanks for valuable content.
I do motorcycles and have seen some really bad work done by shops and even well known 'big name' car builders.
Personally, I will turn someone away before doing dangerous stuff they want (but it's easy for them to find someone who will do it)
Worst part is, the bikes are then sold to some unsuspecting sucker and get crashed (even happened on national TV with an episode of 'Cafe Racer' several years ago. ) I interviewed for the show but they decided they didn't want someone 'explaining' what was wrong with the custom builds (I had been a Ministry of Transport Motorcycle Inspector in Britain in the 80's)
speaking of deathtraps , many years ago , I bought a '33 Plymouth with a 273 c.i. Barracuda drivetrain without taking a look underneath . It drove well ( it had the original leaf springs and hydraulic brakes ) . One day on a 2 lane blacktop , hit a bump and suddenly no steering , didn,t touch the brakes and it crossed the road to incoming semi=trailer ( 75 ft away ) landed in a hayfield ( luckily no ditch ) . shut off the motor to crawl under and fing out the pitman arm had broken in 2 pieces to reveal a bubble type weld . Welding, as you say, is a very importing skill to master if you modify vehicules . Thanks for the inspiring video
This comment right here is a prime example on why good work is so important, We can't thank you enough for taking the time to comment. Sorry to hear that happened to you, Most importantly were we're glad you're okay! Thanks so much for the support, we hope you got the 33 Plymouth all fixed up that's a beautiful car you have.
Good rule of thumb: you dont weld pitman arms
Why would anyone weld a pitman arm? New ones aren't that expensive and they can be found if you look.
This is exactly why I have told anyone who wants to buy a custom car or truck to take a good body man with them to look for work like this. Driving over railroad tracks could have broken that truck in half. I once looked over a " restored" car and told the buyer to run fast and run far. You may have saved someone's life with what you found
David, you are 100% spot on. I bought a beautiful 64 ford pickup. I hit a set of railroad tracks at normal speed and the cab relocated on the frame. The floorboard locked into the brake and clutch pedal and it nearly got me killed. There is NO EXCUSE for this to ever happen.
That’s always a problem finding honest people. I don’t know if I have ever seen anything that bad. Look forward to seeing your team get it back right and and making a safe hot rod for your customer and everyone driving on our streets.
Thank you very much! Honest work is far and in-between, stay tuned for the next video. We appreciate the support Nick
Will be watching
I own a stock 46 ford and all the help is taken not to make a mess like that!
@@maniestrijdom7271 Woo thats a beautiful, beautiful car!
@@LocoCustoms quite sure the young man will get a lesson he will appriciate his life long. Because he will know exactly how his truck is put together. Those types of things will turn out in a life long blessing. As I said before. Most blessings come in your life hidden as a disappointment .
Problem is? These guys that took this job in bit off more than they could chew and it is rightly stated that in this case a built chassis by a professional builder would have been the way to go. A friend of mine was building a 34 Plymouth coupe as a Milner coupe replica. He did all of the work on the body of the coupe and he was going to have a Fat Mans chassis built for it. He was actually capable of doing the work himself as he was a good welder and very meticulous. but he had the income to just pay for that stuff at this stage of his life. Of course he has passed away before he could get to the frame stage. but that is what we all face,
I'm a production welder. I can safely say I was nervous that yall even stood underneath it as I guarantee that the wimpy welds were cracked af. I'd be nervous as hell with just the suspended weight on the lift
I have owned a frame and alignment shop for 30 years. We call what you have there a Crab Walker . Its always a young kid trying to build a car.
That's awesome and thank you for commenting! What's worse is he's a 50 year old man who should have known better
@@LocoCustomstime for a new frame.
Blessings allways present themselves as misstakes or drawbacks. Once a new frame is bought this thing is gonna be awesome. All the things he thought were subpar are gonna be awesome.
Bro, I know you were being respectful on camera, and yeah, the sarcasm was noted. I’ve been working in a truck shop for my entire adult life and I would have loved to have been involved in the clowning y’all did the first time you laid eyes on this!! So much fun!! 🤣🤣
I've made immaculate jobs on clients vehicles and still felt like they were under par. And then I witness something like this and suddenly all is well haha
Yes! Being a perfectionist isn't a bad thing at all. Thank you so much for the comment
Buddy, being an old car head from what you showed so far I hope they have to drive what they built, their demise will be on the local news channels...
That's not a frame anymore, it has no structural strength.. They GUTTED it and I'm glad you got the original back!!!
Wow, i just can't believe this, when you got to the exhaust pipes going through the cross member that had been cut is visual insanity. I absolutely blown away by the work on the frame of this beautiful truck. By the way i just came across your channel and think that you should have a couple hundred thousand subscribers. Just saying.
Wow, That is the biggest compliment ever! Thank you so much for staying and watching
That is a normal design on some factory cars & Kit cars!!!
Oh man, I almost cried when i saw that frame. Talk about butchery. worst part is that such rough workmanship and engineering could kill someone. Subbed to watch you guys do the right thing.
WOW! As an ex bodyman, fabricator, racecar builder, insurance adjuster let me comment on your program. This is the first time I saw your presentation and I heartily approve. In addition to all your excellent comments and apparent knowledge please take a bow. I cannot help commenting on your jig plate. Well done. I once had to straighten a 1939 Ford by chaining it to a railroad track! Ah yes, the good old days! It is criminal to do this level of work to use a loose term. There is also I might add a possible issue with the job as the possibility of a legal issue in a "her" fault accident. The insurance co. may take the attitude of who was negligent by driving an unsafe vehicle. Just a thought and is there a state inspection for this "antique?". Good luck and keep us posted.
Woah! You have some talent, youre a jack of all trades type of guy we love the comment! Thank you for the advice it is very helpful. Im glad you like the plate jig as well. We loved reading about the 1939 Ford, that's an awseome story. As for the state inspection Nevada doesn't have a state safety inspection. Thanks for the luck, we're getting this all sorted out. Stay tuned for the next video and thanks for the support!
That is a good point on the unsafe vehicle in an accident. Insurance companies would use that as a way to get out of a settlement. I’ve known people who have ran into that situation. If they ever uncover that the vehicle has had frame damage or find out that the donor vehicle had they will walk away fast.
@@richardpack4 Thats a really good point, The good news is when we finish it will be completely customs, and she shouldn't have any issues whatsoever. Thanks again for taking the time to comment
I live in Europe, it's often frustrating how many rules there seem to be covering modified and artisan builds over here. But I have to say, in Europe this wouldn't be allowed to pass the safety checks so it would never be able to endanger the driver's or any other road user's lives...
United States all states are different some you have to get your cars inspected and some you don't. Hence the inspection sticker. It's sad what people will do to push the job out the door and hope it never comes back... That job is trash.
Given the uk laws are the same as europe I’m sorry to say your wrong. Cars over 40 years old are exempt from an MOT test so don’t require inspection.
but they must be roadworthy, and you can be prosecuted for driving a dangerous vehicle@@boosteddiesel1834
@@boosteddiesel1834 In the UK cars need an MOT if substantially modified, as this truck is.
WHO CARES!! We are all in the USA!!! NO Safety inspections Here!!
I watch Uncle Tony's Garage and recently he looked at a beautiful Mustang convertble. It was created from a coupe, without any of the convertible body and chassis reinforcements. Comepletely dangerous car sold to an unsuspecting owner. Too many devious garages out there.
You're right about that, It happens all too often. We haven't seen that video, we'll check it out! Thank you for the comment
That pickup that Kiwi got in that had whole section of the cab held together with fiberglass was worse than the mustang.
The radiator should also be mounted trough a cushion, the radiator can develop cracks when it's hard mounted to the chassis because of the constant flexing.
That’s a piece of shit ! Definitely he/they need to be prosecuted 👍
I’ve personally installed over 50 mustang 2 front suspension, back in the late 70’s and mid 80’s. So I personally know exactly what you are talking about. I’ve built, and owned many street Rods.
You’re a stand up guy to take on the big job of correcting that disaster!!!
Thank you, that's a big complement from another builder! Can't thank you enough for all the support Daniel
Oh I am Sure he will be Well Compensated $$ for his time and knowledge to make the repairs the right way!!
Wow it’s incredible how people can pass that kind of work of as professional, and get paid to boot ! Glad to see you taking care of it for her ❤
Hopefully the owner of the truck files a law suit against the person who installed a 70% new chassis.
There had to be an alcohol or drug habit behind this. Just shocking work.
Gotta Luv it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Most people would say, how is this possible, nobody would knowingly do that , but having worked on other peoples ideas, I have seen most of the bad. Working on a 50 Buick I call Death Wish 7 for the seven deadly mistakes made during the " build". Awesome walk through on what can be hidden under that pretty paint job.
Thank you for this informative video. What was done to this vehicle is Criminal. I will be interested to follow what you will be doing to help these poor people out. The way you have documented this I hope they have some recourse. I had a 40 Ford coupe (1963) when I was 16 in high school with a small block Chevy this brings back a lot of memories. Memories of some of the things I did wrong putting it together. But mine went straight drove okay. I didn't know how to weld so I got the guy down the street to stick weld for me. He thankfully 21:10 knew a lot more than I did. And yes the tail housing went through the X cross member so I had to pull the motor to work on the tranny. My builds have become 21:10 much better over the years as my knowledge increased. My business was Carburation & Fuel Injection. When I needed chassis work done I went to a GOOD chassis builder. This video is great and I'm so glad I stumbled on it. I will be following Loco forever.
Thank you again for time in vidoeing & explaining the clueless work that ripped these folks off.
Thank you so much!
I'm sure that this is the worst I've ever seen. It's criminal to sell this type of work, and I would recommend that she file a criminal complaint for fraud. A slam dunk case.
great video guys. Im not usually fond of videos bashing guys work but this work is crap and people need to be informed on what so called builders are doing to people. you are a good person and really know your stuff. I recently purchased a chassis for my 50 merc that someone started. it has a fatman fab front clip and he did a great job. but everything else was trash the rear was set up with triangulated 4 link and the pinion 2.5 inches off center. he also cut the X from the frame and I had to re enforce everything I only paid 2k so I didnt get ripped off its just I had to do a lot more work than I wanted to do. live and learn
Thank you very much for the comment! Yes, I don't like bashing either. I left the name out of the "builder" and just showed his work so everyone can see its not right. It's just an unfortunate situation that the owners paid dearly for. And that's awesome a 50 Merc! such a cool car, you should make more RUclips videos, we would love to watch!

I Just subscribed, and I'm looking forward to your next upload!
Glad you’re fixing it right and even better you’ve made this video exposing this type of work by people who shouldn’t be allowed to do work for the public. It would probably make me sick to know how much the customer was charged. Sad that this type of work and the number of shops doing it is becoming a daily occurrence, a sign of the times.
Im 70 years old now, I spent my life in a Ford service department and of course had my own lil private shop for my projects.. your right, this is the crappiest most dangerous frame job ive ever seen. This owner should demand his money back and if need be..in a court of law. How sad for this owner.
Ok I by NO means am a builder nor welder. But even I see the issues with that frame. My welds are not always so pretty but they are solid and safe. I do know physics and see so many areas you pointed out that were extremely major fail points and very unsafe. I would say had I had this done for my wife I would be having a heart to heart with this person. Glad you are getting it fixed up for them.
The level people will stoop to make a dollar is beyond my comprehension! Examples like this keep showing up and each one gets worse. You're a great man to help this woman out.
Unbelievable. Is it simple ineptitude and greed? Drugs? All of the above? My son and I specialize in custom tile walk-in showers and bathrooms and we see this kind of stuff all the time. Sometimes things don’t get caught until there’s structural damage to the house.
Great video. Everything was clearly recorded and explained. Although, one sound transition made me jump out of my skin. Lol. I’ll be following the rebuild. Looking forward to watching it all come together.
bad chad does this shifty stuff
i grabbed a canceled mustang coupe restoration "ready to paint", I measured it and it was reasonably straight. I checked all the welds and sheet metal. lots of plaster, terrible welds! I send it to dip and started all over again... great that people like u do it right!
These people that shit this lady should be exposed so no one has to endanger their lives everytime they sit in their hotrod. She should sue them and definitely get her money back. Im glad you're going to fix this frame and welding like it should be. I just came across your channel and subscribed because all this stuff you've pointed out. I love a honest builder....🎉
Thank you so much for the sub and support on our channel! As of for the guy who built this, Definitely in the legal progress. Thanks for the comment
This video would make excellent evidence.
A while back, I did some electrical work on a 35 Plymouth PJ and the frame was a hack job that I was scared to even move it. The customer even gave me the Ok to go for a drive in it, which I declined. They used a mid yr Camaro donor and cut out most of the supports. the frame had already started to sag and the welds were ripping apart. They asked if I would help and fix the issue that I pointed out and again I declined. As bad as it was, I did not want to put my name on anything on this car. Even the electrical was bad. I tried to make good on it but No that was way out of my scope as well. I feel ya and it looks like they got this car in the right hands. I will be watching more and glad I found your channel.

I just clicked on your video, I am so impressed by your calm measured analytical approach, and the way you explain the problems, you have a Zen like calmness learned through many years of skilled work, as a tradesman myself ( but not on your level) I recognize a craftsman with a life time of experience , who thinks things through and checks double checks and checks again before welding things, my father was a tool maker, he worked the same way
truly that chassis is horrible, even things like the route of the exhaust pipes over the leaf springs , where they will foul under bumpy conditions, and the mountings to the cab would not hold a pannier on a motorcycle, even I can see its lethal ,many thanks for taking the time and trouble to show this awful shoddy workmanship, and to rectify it

Sadly I'm in a very similar situation. I should have done more research before getting into mine. I've got a 37 Ford Tudor sedan that has some sort of either homemade or aftermarket frame and the rear leaf springs are put in with the rear of the spring straddling the frame as normal. Then welded the front to the inside of the frame. I'm guessing to lower the ride height. There's a 2 inch difference from the front of the spring to the rear. As well as wheel centering and pinion angle issues. I haven't gotten into the front suspension yet . SMH
I'll be watching for updates!!

If someones life is counting on your work- the work must be correctly measured - checker and checked the second and third time. Just like the saying - measure twice / cut once. Same for this work - must be correct. So glad, YOU SIR - is undertaking this for that lady. She can trust what you do will be correctly done.. Someone should be held accountable for the junk they made and a possible life that may of ended by this bad work. The same in body work with rust and repairs. Man, it makes me crazy that these total hacks work in our hobby. These kinds of ppl have always existed though. I had a buddy who went through something similar 35 years ago. Total crap work. The sad thing is - most customers don't have the knowledge to know whats good and whats terrible, which as you point out - can lead to dangerous situations. You're doing good work my friend. Keep it up.
I’ll be very surprised if the main thrust bearing is still holding clearance.
Years ago when 4 link super comp dragsters became the way to do it, people were adjusting all the driveline thrust clearance out of the chassis.
This killed several thrust bearings before it was fully realized.
That and you can’t force a tight input shaft into the rear of a crankshaft.

Definitely agree, I've been building for a long time and this is the worst I've seen. Thanks for your comment!
Just came across your channel I am impressed with your work ethic, do it right or don't do it at all. Here in the UK when you build a hot rod or kit car you have to have the vehicle tested before you can register it. it's called an sva test Google it sometime, a lot of people hate it because there is certain rules you have to stick to but it's a necessity which I feel is needed because of people who have no place building cars, I am talking professional engineers here lol. It always amazes me that home builders and small rod shops on you tube do absolutely amazing work because they want the best and show everyone there great work, but I get pissed off when so called professional car builders take advantage of fellow hot rod and car enthusiasts because they don't know any better(not all enthusiasts have that knowledge). Why did they turn out that shit when the old frame just needs jigging and refining it blows my mind, lack of basic tools is usually the answer. For the price the poor lady paid that frame should be arrow straight jigged and welded to perfection powder coated and aligned and re assembled whole fender colour matched and re painted and still have change keep sending the videos so I can be updated I have subscribed take care..
First off, Thank you so much for the all the detail in your comment! Googled the Sva test, here in Nevada there's not even a Vehicle safety Inspection. Thank you for the comment and sub from the UK! Love to hear where every one is from, Take care and definitely stay tuned for the next video on this truck! We are fixing up the Original frame we showed and its going to be really nice
I don't have a clue how frames are built but know enough to see this was dangerous. You going through all of this helped me understand a ton more about the needed thought and care that is put into frames. The planning it must take to do it right and even then there still may be adjustments needed along the way to ensure the end product is done right. By going through this you did a great job of illustrating the chain reaction of consequences when just one thing is not right. I do have to disagree with you on one thing you said. Saying if someone wanted to do this on their own car you guess it's ok. This vehicle on the road puts more that just the driver at risk, every car they pass is at risk from this vehicle coming apart and cause injury to others. As far as the welding goes, he was able to save a ton of cost in material on most of those welds. Appreciate your video!!
Good channel big daddy, I just found it and subscribed, somebody really messed her over bad, I'm not in the business but even I know more than that guy knows, I can't believe how shoddy that work was. Once again, great channel!

in a previous life I was a weldor. We used to call those 'rat turd' welds. A shame for someone to be abused like this. They pretty much got everything possible wrong...so you gotta give them props for that ;-). If you don't have a frame table, using mason's or fishing line diagonally across the corners will show the twist. Thanks.
I’d love to find a 40 ford truck, but work like that is terrifying!! Sad thing they paid an outrageous amount, that should have been a high end build at the prices you described. But it will be a beautiful truck when it’s done.
Isn't it such a beautiful truck! Good luck finding one, you'll love it! You're exactly right they paid top notch for junk. Thanks for the comment!

From Canada! Thanks for the comment, We agree 100% he shouldn't weld anything but his own projects he needs to be educated for sure!
yet you guys have bad chad in nova scotia
The housing is bent down because the perches were welded on the bottom and cut back off numerous times.
Possibly, thank you for the feedback!
@@LocoCustoms
Seen it many times...
No problem. It may be fixable if the top side hasn't already been heated or welded on.
Thanks for helping these folks and outright saving lives by getting this knowledge out there.
And like you said, it was less money to just drop that body on an existing rolling frame of choice.
Subscribed!
Holy jeez. , I kludge my work some, but that frame was criminal.
Ohh god , I’ve seen a few like that .Guys with just enough knowledge/ lack of knowledge to be deadly
Yea, it's unfortunate how many there are like that. Thanks for commenting
Wow man. I cannot believe that. Can only imagine how many other poor folks are driving dangerous works of art from that place. Can't wait to see the original frame under it...
A complete new frame and suspension is needed on that one. Plus lots more. I could do way better than that when I was a teenager, but, (I guess) it was a different time.
Stay tuned for the next video, we're taking the original frame and modifing it. Thanks for the comment, we appreciate it!
Used to work at a shop that built and serviced classic cars and hotrods. Very few custom cars were done well. It always started as an alignment issue.
Someone should tell that welder he would have a safer outcome with pop rivets.
That is funny! He would have done a whole lot better job! Thank you for the awesome comment
Nah, would have drilled the holes too big for the rivets.
That's low; really low
I ran into the same stuff in texas. A man went to Louisiana and bought a 49 Ford pickup truck and brought it back. They had taken the back half of a Caprice Classic frame stacked it with a 75 Camaro subframe and booger welded it together. On the ground it was beautiful. In the air it was a nightmare. It came in because he didn't have any brakes. The rear end was . the lines were leaking . nothing was tied down.
Just joined the channel on this video!! I think the people who built it know a little something about doing this type of work. They are just not good in the Fine detail. That extra step. Check it twice. It's sad cause this day and age there is RUclips videos, Google and so on to really finesse your craft. Me, I have been doing Upholstery since 1991 and I just think if I had those options to look upon. Man, it would have made my do it overs a lot less. LOL I appreciate the channel and I will be watching.
Thanks for the sub! Thats awesome, Upholstery is cool craft to perfect. Love the truck you turned into a convertible that took some skill, great work! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay tuned for more vids soon
That's the shadiest build I've ever seen. That's sketchier than crap I did on my truck as a teenager. You've earned a sub with your attention to detail. Can't wait to see you guys fix it.
I find myself getting angry seeing that, they didn’t care about another persons life.
We feel the same Keith. We'll get this fixed up for them in the next video! Thank you for the comment
Hey I just got into this headfirst. I'm a restoration specialist now.
I'm not great but I'm learning autobody on my cars right now.
Spent the last three years learning how to weld really well at some shit welding jobs near me that put me backwards financially. Buy my welds don't look like that anymore.
I'm stoked I found your channel.
I agree with everything you are saying.
Thank you very much Rich!
I just can't believe someone would put something like that together and think it's ok. Glad to see that you are going to help them and make it right.
I hope they use this video as evidence when they sue that guy.
Yes!! Thank you for taking the time to comment
There is no reasons the other so called builder ripped them off!! It is so cool that you see all the blunders. As far as a frame swap goes 1000 percent. Have a reputable chassis manufacturer build the chassis. Great to see your keen eye pick this crap job apart. Great work. Love to see really talented guys get too solve a damn poor finish from some hack !!! I’ve been in the buss. Many many years and I always start with a propper frame. Built by expert chassis manufacturer. This job makes us all look like crap. !!
That truck looks like Chad Hiltz built it.
You said it, I didn't haha! Thanks for the comment!
Chad would of hid the welds with filler...
🤣😂
Thank you for taking the time to show this information. I watch these videos to learn as much as possible and I am glad there are videos like this that show what to look out for. ( I would love to learn to weld!)
Wow after years oof working on frames and cars I'm really shocked that it ever left that shop. It's really a shame that that kind of work gets done by a shop. I think a high school class would have done a way better job because they'd constantly be checking weld and measurements ..... I was taught that SAFTEY is FIRST and foremost the thing you have to create. A life can't be replaced once it's lost. That alone shows that money was the only thing wanted not quality or safety. One bad job stands out over a thousand great jobs. A new frame is what should have been done not coble together a half ass one that would never be safe
Wow! Bro that’s unbelievable that somebody would build shit like that! That’s crazy and thank god that lady did not get into a crash or something happing while she was driving that truck… WOW! I’m happy you guys are going to make it right and safe for her.
Heartbreaking! I've built many cars, mostly Mini Coopers (it's all that I could afford at the time) and one thing that I learned was that it is a "Labour of Love!" The money that I got out of the car, just about covered the parts that I put into the car.... Not including my time, experience and knowledge. Or the little things like welding wire, gas, rags, nuts and bolts, cans of etch primer and chassis black paint... Or the cost of my tools, welder, air compressor and all of the other little stuff that costs a lot more than I ever got back....
But it's also a matter of PRIDE!!
I know that every car that I've ever worked on.... Left me in a better state than when I received it!
The builder of this truck should be *Named and Shamed* so that he/they can't do the same dangerous job on someone else's car!!! They give the industry a bad name! 🤬🤬🤬
Save ur $$ & Stop buying Mini Cooper JUNK!!!
I used to have a small fab shop across the street from one of their shops in Las Vegas and I can say they are the real deal. I saw two c10 short bed conversions they did and it blew me away at the caliber work they put out every day, and they knock it out quick. Great family that does honest quality work, hope you boys are doing great and cant wait to see some more awesomeness on your channel #subscribed
That other mechanic knew he was doing her wrong and should be sued.
He needs to be sued, the work was vastly inferior and downright dangerous, prove it in court and recoup her losses. I couldn't believe the price he named, he said an Art Morrison frame, (I guess rolling chassis) would cost $16,000 and she had paid more than that, I definitely say a lawsuit is in order.
@@michaelgillespie1206 Couldn't have said it better! It's unbelievable the work he did. An Art Morrison frame would have been almost half of what she paid for this hack job.
@@michaelgillespie1206 I agree 100% thank you for commenting, we love the feedback!
@@LocoCustoms I just found your channel and I'm a new subscriber.
@@michaelgillespie1206 Thank you for subscribing, more vids coming soon!
I have to say I agree with your whole assessment, that builder should be criminally liable, the only thing I don't agree with is that even if it was their own car or something they would drive it still endangers everybody around that thing.
Wow definitely destroyed the integrity of that frame I've seen some butchers and hack jobs that's got to be the worst
I agree, The worst we've seen as well! Thank you for the comment Michael
Paper mache may be (is) more sturdy than that frame. Nausea within seconds of those undercarriage shots geez how is this ok to send down the road in their mind?
I’m not a car builder but was a contractor before I retired. I understand what it is like to come across terrible craftsmanship. One job that sticks out in my mind is when an “electrician” cut 6” off several 2x8 floor joists in order the install fluorescent fixtures in a basement ceiling. I was called in because the ceramic tile in the kitchen was cracking. It was of course directly above the new basement fixtures. Unbelievable! I feel your pain!
Some people just don’t know they are doing wrong, they should be some other line of work
Definitely! Couldn't agree more with you. Thank you for commenting
It's heartbreaking that such a beautiful truck was hacked up in such a way ! I hope to get to see her roll when you guys make her sweet !!!
Happens all the time in the Hot Rod world around here. Even worse is bad painters!!
Oh yea, you got that right there's a lot of bad painters in the hot rod scene. Thank you for commenting
Wow! You've given me some serious food for thought. I'm re-swapping the rear end on my 65 G-10 you see... I had it towed a year of so after I got it and the tow guy tensioned the axles so tight, so far apart, that he ripped the spring mounts right off the unibody. He pulled the rear end back far enough to drop the drive shaft on the bed of the truck. I ratcheted and load bindered it back to where I thought it should be. I was close. Maybe close ish... Regardless I swapped in a Camero rear end after the bolt that holds the spring together rotted apart. (The rear end telescoped backwards on one side. I say I ran my van over with my van.) More drama ensued when the replacement spring ripped the rot shackle loose and proceeded through the floor board. (Not the first time for that unfortunately) I have another rear end im going to swap in there, (taller gearing) this one has a triangulated 4 link setup. After watching this I'm getting that damn axle in position perfectly, PERFECTLY, before I even start considering measuring for my links! Most people wouldn't even consider fixing the thing up... Living in Wisconsin when you have a 58 year old Chevy van with 90% of the body still there you start reaching. Or it gets tempting at least. I can't wait to get rid of those rot shackle mounts and those convoluted mangled pieces of rust that held on my leaf springs, I also can't wait to see the rest of this build/repair/saga/shit storm of criticism. You've inspired me to do better, to be better. Just cuz I'll keep this van the rest of my life doesn't mean I have to die in it! Thank you!
the guy who built this can cough up $16,000 for her frame
Yep and some on top of that for what she paid. Thanks for the comment!
You guys are right on with how bad it is I have never seen a chassis so badly built glad you are repairing it the guy how did that would never be able to make the repairs correctly
You guys seem like you know what you're doing. Hopefully you can get this "straightened" out. :)
Thank you for the comment, we will definitely get this fixed up!
