56 Chev pickup owner here in Ontario. Converted front suspension to Mustang two, ford 9 inch rear with four link. Coil overs on each corner. Welders Series out of Breslau makes a great cross member kit.
RUclipsr Classic Truck Rescue will have ANYTHING you will need for this truck. Rick's "Classic Truck Ranch" collects 40's and 50's Chevy & GMC trucks of all sizes. His collection, which is mostly for sale, does branch outside of those trucks, but not a lot. He's located in Oregon, but is always willing to ship.
Chris at Ironhead Garage is doing a really cool '55 GMC build. I sent him a Truck and Car Shop Catalog in Orange, Calif. They have everything for these trucks. I'll send you a catalog. Great find, great sellers and so cool that you guys finally have a Tri-five Truck! Now you need a Holmes 400 for the back!
Hey Dan, welcome to the 55-59 Chev truck club. You'll find them away easier to work on than the Tri-five cars! Lots of parts out there, you and KMS Tools will get to know each other really well, they have a good selection of parts and great to deal with. REach out to Brent at HA Kustoms if you run into trouble, hes done about 4 of these trucks
I have installed several camero and nova sub frames in these old chevy trucks. The nova and standard camero fit easy. The Z28 and transAm subframes are a little heavier duty but still fit. (bigger tube). I also used the 81 Camero rearend in my last truck. On the rear I flipped the shackles and put the rear on top of the springs. It makes the truck drive nice. My uncle used his stock front axle with 55-57 car hubs on it, and later put a disk brake conversion on it. I always put the swinging pedals from a chevy square body in mine because the master cylinder under the floor sux. I can provide pics if needed.
I've been following u n Danny for a looong time... Since way back in the Bà Hàbà days😊.. I just don't know what I'd do without a lil DD SpeedShop after a hard day's work aftà dinnàh... De'ah.. oh sloppy joes tonight my sweetie just shouted!!!!! 😂.... Yum-yum.. love u2😎🙃
VERY NICE! I'm super excited to see this truck come to life in the DD Speed Shop garage! It will be fun to see the choices you both make with it. Can't wait!
Love it! Had a 56 step-side 35 years ago, hauled my Triumph dirt tracker with it. Big crank 327, 3 speed overdrive, tuck n roll and painted Emerald Green Firemist. Should have kept it! No side-spare, lol.
Dan, Daniel my brother!! Nice truck! I'm with Danni, don't lower it... she's got the right idea! Your house and property are so beautiful! Signed, Your friend, Cancer guy 😊
Now you are wrenching in my world 👍🏻🙌🏼🔧🔧🔧 those trucks are great. The aftermarket follows these truck great. You can do any option you want. If you are lowering, look at TCI front end kits 🔧🔧👍🏻🙌🏼 I’m on my 8th truck of 55-57 generation. Probably going to drive the latest one on Hot Rod Drag Week this year 👍🏻👊🏼🙌🏼
Awesome video. Curious to see what you do with a truck. I would definitely paint it and I wouldn't lower it. It's a truck. Made for hauling. But that's only my opinion. I know you're going to do something cool with this. can't wait to see it.
I had a 56 Apache straight 6, 4 spd, back in the late 70's. I drove the snot outta that truck. Paid $50 bucks USD. Couldn't get the kingpins out, so I sold it for $100! 😂 Miss that truck. Can't wait to see what ya'll do with this one!!!!
Love this project Dan. The very first vehicle I ever bought in High School was a used '56 Chevy 1/2 ton short bed stepside Truck with a 350 and 3sp. manual. Since mine was originally a 6 cyl truck, it came with 3.90:1 gears stock. I rebuilt and modified the 350 engine, put in a 4sp, raised the truck 2" all around, put 12" wide meats in the back and it was really quick. Scary quick because of how squirrelly it would get going thru the gears at WOT.
'56 Stepside !! Awesome parts truck. Had a '55 , 2nd series, stepside, did a nova sub frame ( slides right in on the frame) , flipped the back spring shackles and added ' 70 Plymouth Fury rear leaf springs. Rode like a Caddy. SBC and a turbo 350 with a '72 Camaro 3:42 posi-traction 10 bolt.😊😊
He got my sub for how well he treated you, and you paid for a truck and got a friend! I’ll be interested to see what he builds and what he passes on being restricted by one garage in a residential neighborhood.
A friend has a 57, he put on a Sonoma 4x4 frame. Did a great job, no issues, drives like a new 4x4 truck. Spyder, if you’re watching maybe help him out.
Dani is right. Keep the stock height, spare tire on the fender. Paint it the original yellow as under the hood, and convert it a 5 bolt chevy to swap around all your wheels!
Those trucks look best as 4x4s with chunky tires. Look at the "Napco" trucks, which to me look a bit too high, but if lowered a couple inches to make a "gentle" 4x4 "tribute", wow!
Oh, these trucks are great fun! I am so glad to see what DD Speed Shop will do with it. I built a '55 Custom Cab (the big back window) many years ago and it was a gem. At the very least, relocate the fuel tank, put on the front clip to rid yourselves of the straight axle and kingpins, and try to tune the fitment of the doors (not a lot of quality control at the time for that task in '56). Can't wait to see it come together!
Love.. LOve.... LOVE the truck!! Dani that is gonna be a great ride for you 😊 I also agree that it should have the spare hanging on the side. So excited for you kids, can't wait to see what you guys do with it!
Had a friend many years ago that had a 1957 - 58, The 1958 Cameo was the last of the fiberglass-clad pickups, because Chevrolet had a steel Fleet-Side body waiting in the wings. As a result, these particular Cameos are among the rarest pickup trucks ever built-the model was discontinued when the Fleet-Side arrived in February of 1958. Also his Dad owned a chroming shop, so you know all the chrome was cherry.
I'm pretty sure the 5 bolt 4.75" bolt pattern axles from the '55 - '57 Chevy cars are a direct bolt in replacement for the trucks 6 bolt axles. I just saw Chris at "IRONHEAD GARAGE" do it a couple weeks ago on his '57 GMC truck. It's an easy upgrade.
Great video, can't wait for more. I had a 55 in same condition. I put 5 lug disc on the front with gm dual master cylinder and took out several springs for lowering. Rear end was junkyard second gen camero and fits just right. MrsHevyShevy has the same truck and MrHevyShevy put a Pontiac Firebird front end under it. Many videos too.
Absolutely love that truck. I really good shape. Can't wait for this build. Your famous flat back paint job would look pretty nice with some cool Dani's Truck signage. (No strpper glitter). Lol
I left my 58 F100 setting up stock (farm style). It's a style side short bed with the original 223 with the 3 on the tree. I love these old trucks. Can't wait to watch this get worked on.
that is an awesome pick-up. I for one will be watching where you go with it, don't be like that Dakota derelict and store it until you forget about it . lower it, raise it, either way, it will be cool. Mortske is planning his next foray into lock up, I reckon so he may not be much help unless you get him a phone card,
Wow! Glad to see Dan finally branch out and stop doing tri-five cars….Oh Wait?!? Those guys complaining all you ever do is tri-fives are going to be happy with this one 😂😂😂
Welcome to the club! I have a 1958 Cameo Carrier. 283/3 speed on the column/A.C. Bombay Ivory and Cardinal Red. (Short fiberglass bed, Big back window. Marc Out.
I'm not a truck guy, but that's a great looking truck. And, it's the right size: big enough to be useful without being oversized. You could do a mild build on that 250 six, which would suit this nicely. A small block would be easy (as you have one!). Later versions of these came with the W-motor (348/409/427) which could be cool if you wanted something different. The "other" big block.
I clipped my '55 with a pontiac independent suspension , but i had to take some leaves out of the rear springs to smooth out the ride, and I've seen people swap out frames from a 2000 Tahoe 4x4 engine and all. But good luck, on this great project.
Woot! That’s so cool! I’ve been wanting to see you do a tri-five truck for a long time I’m Ford guy but I do love tri-fives. I can’t wait to see you start on it! I actually like it the way it is, just get the stance right and your buddy to come letter/pin stripe it and you’ll have on heck of a shop truck. I love it!
Well the 350 outta the fifty seven already has a truck oil pan, I heard you say so... Seems like the natural selection there. Those Chevy trucks and the 56ford trucks are the best looking Style of fifty's trucks to my eyes, Good Score Guy's fit's right in with your tri five thing.👍🏁
Was a pleasure meeting you both. Can’t wait to see what you do with my truck!!
Thanks man! Itll b a fun ride.
Just watched your video first.

Dan gets a Christmas gift.🎄
Best line ever by Dan, "We are not hillbillies".
Agree with Dani, the truck looks better the way it is supposed to be. Not lowered like everyone seems to think these days.
It was great to meet you guys! Truck went to good people 😊
I drove a 59 chevy stepside in high school. (86) brings back memories
Short cut Garage. Great guy !! I've been following him for a while. Awesome you too met!!
I had a 57-long bed and loved that truck inline 6 and 3 on the tree
56 Chev pickup owner here in Ontario. Converted front suspension to Mustang two, ford 9 inch rear with four link. Coil overs on each corner. Welders Series out of Breslau makes a great cross member kit.
Did mustang two on my 55 here in California, what a difference

Hell yeah !!! Perfect winter project !!
Love that pick up. I agree with Dani leave it stock looking.

Keep the straight axle. A mild v8 or even a 6 cyl with a T5….is a super happy combo in one of these.
good score...this will be a fun one for sure...looking forward to it's progress
I've been following u n Danny for a looong time... Since way back in the Bà Hàbà days😊.. I just don't know what I'd do without a lil DD SpeedShop after a hard day's work aftà dinnàh... De'ah.. oh sloppy joes tonight my sweetie just shouted!!!!! 😂.... Yum-yum.. love u2😎🙃

That little 305 you got would work perfect in that
I think it would be really cool to see how that green paint cleats up. Looks like a great candidate for a clear coat
Keep the spare tire on the side and cover it, and paint some dd speed shop stuff on it 👌real nice
Beautiful view in your backyard! Cool truck buy Dan! 41 degrees F
Dan, Daniel my brother!! Nice truck! I'm with Danni, don't lower it... she's got the right idea! Your house and property are so beautiful! Signed, Your friend, Cancer guy 😊
Fabio wouldn't want his hair getting frizzy cause of the cold. Lol. Love ya Dan.
I’m with Dani I like the height of the farm truck they were. Nice pickup. Fits right in with your classic lineup!!
Love Daniels new truck and I agree it needs the spare on the side 😊can’t wait to see you working on it

Hey Dan&Dannie
Congrats on the "new" truck, I look forward to the videos.
Take care of One Another 😊

Very excited about this one and its a tri 5 to boot!
thanks for the old guy memory. can remember how many times a have and old truck sideways at high speeds.
Dan, out of his comfort range.
These series are always great 😊👍
I had a 56 Apache straight 6, 4 spd, back in the late 70's. I drove the snot outta that truck. Paid $50 bucks USD. Couldn't get the kingpins out, so I sold it for $100! 😂

So pleased your doing this truck , I know it’s going to be awesome, I’ve got a 59 Apache on the go here in the uk
Cool truck. I'm with Dani, spare tire and leave it like it is. When the new wears off, customize.

It’ll nice to see another type of build on the channel. Cool truck, can’t wait. 👍😎
Truck build will be a change of pace. Can't waite
Can't wait to watch the progress on this truck. I have a 56' GMC minus the need for the metal work. I'm sure the series will be a roadmap for me.
Yes Danielle, we want a matching spare wheel !
CONGRATS!!!! 55 through 57 are my favorite trucks!
DD trailer shop Dan here, pulling a trailer with my tow truck. Lmao!
Dannie, stay firm over that spare tire - a true old farm truck! It was funny to see how easily Dan pushed the truck off the trailer. A nice vid. 🇨🇦
Been wanting a 55-57 Chevy Truck for awhile. So cool that you finally got one. If you give it to Dani please don’t let her Glitter it all to heck! Lol
A friend has a 57, he put on a Sonoma 4x4 frame. Did a great job, no issues, drives like a new 4x4 truck. Spyder, if you’re watching maybe help him out.

I was praying out loud that you put it right in the shop
A diamond in the rough. A great truck!

Dannys, right again!!! Go with the fender spear tire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to see what u name the ol beast... It looks like a Him... But I guess it could be a Her!?!?
Lucille 💚
Love this truck. Glad you got it. Looking forward to watching this project.
o k ,i'm done just happy for your gal. she will make it look good.

Sanford &Son style! I like it!
Dan , you need to remember this is Dennis truck, all decisions need to be made by her
DD Speed on the Spare Tire COVERS 👍😁
Hand lettered - "Show me your junk! DD Speed Shop" 🤣

Chevy truck lovers are in a special groupe of colectors and conasuers. Welcome to the old chevy truck world

The spare would look good with matching icy white steel wheels. Mmmm she'd be purty.
Dani needs to do the varnishing on the wood kit for the bed.
that is an awesome pick-up. Awesome find! Love them Task Force design trucks!
Now this truck was quite a big surprise. So many possibilities. So little time. Cheers!! 😎
The hot setup for these trucks is an S10 swap. Takes a small block, disk brakes, 5 lug wheels.
That’s my favorite body style of truck 👍😊
D-D Hack Shop would be a fun decal for the doors

Great project! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. ❤😎
Always wanted to build a 4x4 version of one of those
Im with Danny keep the spare on the side
I love all the other content, but glad to see another truck project. Keep up the good work.
That's a truck I want. That spare tire fender is tougher to find.
I clipped my '55 with a pontiac independent suspension , but i had to take some leaves out of the rear springs to smooth out the ride, and I've seen people swap out frames from a 2000 Tahoe 4x4 engine and all. But good luck, on this great project.
Learned to drive a three on the tree in one just like that! Good times.
Badass Dan and Dani looking forward to this build!!!!! My first truck i had at 16 when i started driving and had a 55 and 58
Thanks for the video’s
