    What's your fav picture profile to use on the Lumix S5?

      I’m a photographer so I shoot images RAW, and I’m not a pro with video just learning the last year all the audio and editing was a learning curve for a 55 year old photographer! It’s all I’ve ever done since I was get this… 15!! I started work young, by the time I was 16 I was managing two one hour photo labs… back in the film days!! And I’ve been in photography 40 years last October… I do love working with video, but so far it’s mostly in studio lights so I just go straight out of the camera..

      @@studioatlanta Great to hear, whatever works for you I'm sure it still looks great. I bet that was a great experience, nothing quite like film, can't say I've ever developed it but it's something I'd like to give a go.

    Are there places you'd use v-log for stills? Is it giving you more DR? Thanks for the video, I'm pretty much set on getting this camera. I just have to wait a couple months and pretty much the only camera that I would take over this is it they announced the s5ii in February. I just love these colors from the camera, they look as good as Fuji without the digital sharpness.

    • @KyleJenkins
      @KyleJenkins  Год назад +1

      Yeah V-LOG will give you the most dynamic range in your pictures and will give you so much information to recover highlights and shadows and will really allow you to push your edits! Yeah I would hold out for the S5ii as that will be just as affordable and have way more features in it.

    Are those profiles going to be visible in Lightroom if I shoot raw?
    And If I should JPEG only, using those profiles, am I loosing dynamic range?

    • @KyleJenkins
      @KyleJenkins  Год назад +1

      The profiles will be visible if you shoot raw, if you only shoot jpegs your going to loose information in the image which can cause banding and you won't be able to push the image as far as raws

    I’m completely new to all of this confused as hell lol . I wanna take pictures mainly of myself at first , is the portrait mode already set up in the camera ? Like I can just go in and click on portrait mode and not have to mess w a bunch of stuff ?

    • @KyleJenkins
      @KyleJenkins  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah Portrait mode is a good in camera profile that doesn't require any editing after, some other good profiles are the landscape one and the cinelike D2 (I think its called) these are great in body profiles that don't require a lot of work after

      @dillonwilhelmy310 have a play round with them and see what works for you best. You can also create customer ones if you want, so if you find a profile you like you can increase the saturation, contrast, etc on it.

      @dillonwilhelmy310 umm I haven't come across that in my time, if the lens is an auto focus lens you may need to turn the auto focus on the lens rather than in the camera

    A rather strange question. If you take stills, regardless which camera, do this in RAW, that’s an axiom in photography!
    I also have a S5 but, after using Panasonic G9 for two more years I find any color profile in S5 a garbage. As a landscape photographer I need color accuracy and dynamic range. Unfortunately I can see how poor the color variety is in the out-of-the-camera stills out of S5 (in comparison to G9), especially ih the border area “green/yellow “! Regardless which color profile I set, I lose a lot of color information when I shoot in Jpeg with S5!
    BUT! The RAWs of s5 are great! 👍 Actually, they are slightly better than those of G9, but the kit lens of S5 is a king and beats easily the pro lens 12-35mm f2.8 which I used with my G9 in terms of resolution and details reproduction. This kit lens was the only reason why I finally sold my G9 and not the S5!…

    • @KyleJenkins
      @KyleJenkins  Год назад +1

      Raws are deffo the way to go, can I ask which colour profile you use one the S5? The ones straight out the camera can be useless that's why I use a custom profile

    • @vladislavihl
      @vladislavihl Год назад +1

      @@KyleJenkins , I shoot in RAW+Jpeg in Portrait profile. The Portrait provides the best (that means the most accurate) color reproduction for my eyes. But I hardly ever used this Jpegs for the end result (for comparison, I used Standard profile in my G9 and in 25% of cases I was unable to beat the Jpeg+slight corrections plaing with RAWs in Lightroom for hours). Since last year I use the DXO Photolab to develop my RAWs and then transfer the respective TIFFs to LR6 fo final corrections. I must say, the Photolab performs miracles; the LR6 can't even close come to this results (recovery of highlights, shadows and colors) but somehow I haven't found the way I can reach the satisfying results using the Photolab only. For my level of skills the preproduction in Photolab and finishing in LR6 is the only way to achieve the best results with S5 raws.
