I like the option to adding LUT's as a picture profile to kinda get film simulations, few months ago i switched to Sony😅 Hopefuly Sony will learn few tricks from lumix.

As another comment mentions, would be really cool to see how Real Time LUT works for street photography. Maybe some SOOC film simulations? I know the camera can add different levels of film grain.

I love the videos and photos you've created. It's so calming to see the cityscape you've captured. It's like a meditation. I admire how the footage taken with a kit lens is so warm, like the feel of an old lens. It's really interesting to hear you talk about your video creation process as a photographer. You focus on the shot, not the technology or equipment. I hope you continue to talk about videography, including your color grading process. 🍑

I purchased my Lumix S1 before going on a trip to Cancun with my wife and fell in love with the camera. It's big, heavy and built like a tank but I love every pound of it! I'm a software developer and photography is my hobby, it gives me peace and it's wonderful to learn so many things and apply them yourself on your next trip. I've taken almost 85,000 pictures with my S1 and now that my baby is on the way I'm sure I'll use my Lumix for many years to come. I think that if I ever switch brands I'll go for a Leica SL and I will stay in the L Mount system because of the quality of the glass available it's comparable if not better than a Sony GM Lens.

I picked up a MFT LUMIX last year and was blown away with how capable it was. Got it for video project my daughter was doing, but quickly became my favourite stills camera. SII a strong contender for when I upgrade later this year. LUMIX build quicky seems to be excellent as well.

I have the S5ii and it is an awesome photo camera. I purchased it with the 20-60mm kit lens and the 50mm 1.8 lens also. I then purchased the 85mm 1.8 lens and am amazed with the photos. I am not a professional photographer, just a hobbyist who is trying to get better.

I bought the first S5 as soon as it came out and I have loved it ever since. I shoot all my videos on it and also use it as my primary photography camera. It is truly a workhorse and such an underrated camera. The size, the quality, the ability to run and gun as a crew of one, unmatched. Loved the video :)

Faizal, you made a GREAT choice with this camera. I've owned the S5 as well as other LUMIX cameras over the past 12 years. Some of the BEST cameras out there. I have the Leica M10-R, Nikon Zf, and now the S5II as my primary portrait hybrid camera. I'm a long time Fujifilm shooter but for my work I need full-frame regardless the manufacturer and I get to use the same Voigtlander M mount lenses across all three kits. I'm not much of an autofocus shooter and the only autofocus lens I own is the Panasonic S 24-105mm f4. If you don't have that lens add it to your kit. You can thank me later.
As to your question about why not a lot of "RUclipsrs" talk about LUMIX cameras, well those who shoot LUMIX especially when it comes to video do talk about it. However, the Canon and definitely the Sony shooters of the world don't. Largely because they're fanboys who think their camera of choice is the best of them all which is nonsense. Cameras are tools to be used to get a job done. It's like when you have people attempt to compare Fujifilm to Leica, there is no real comparison.
Fujifilm stands on its own just like Leica does. The shooting experiences especially when compared to the Leica M are completely different. This is coming from a person who feels that the X-Pro3 is the BEST camera Fujifilm has ever made and I still own one. But I've been shooting with LUMIX cameras since the G7 MFT as well as the GX9 which is a fantastic street camera. Again, cameras are tools and bang for the buck the LUMIX S5II is the BEST hybrid camera on the market.
It's the camera that the next series of Leica SL's will be based on because it now has phase detect autofocus and they're leaving behind the contrast based autofocus which has been the thorn in Panasonic's side when it comes to its LUMIX cameras especially among the autofocus snobs who shoot Sony. Before I forget, LUMIX cameras have the BEST IBIS systems in the game. Enjoy your camera and sorry for the long response. Clearly, I had a lot to say. 🤣🤣🤣

Been a Lumix S5 user since 2022. Wanted to get back into photography and videography, heard a lot of bad comments about S5 compared to what Canon and Sony had to offer but I wanted to give it a shot(no pun intended) and honestly I've been loving the S5! Mainly purchased the camera for it's video quality and I have no complaints here! It's actually more than what I expected.
I shoot everyday photo/video, mainly food and cars and I love what the Lumix platform spits out. It's just something else than what I've seen before.
Going against the current is a better feeling than going with the current. Especially if you find your own ways in doing so.
Anyway, enjoy your videos! Glad you did one for us Lumix users!

Been having Lumix for months now. I almost went copped a sony as a hybrid joint from Canon but doing my research on the Lumix…this baby checked off more than i anticipated not to mention the phase detection & aspect ratio choices, 6k open gate, plus a lot of cinema camera features.
And the colors out of it are stunning. Glad i made the investment on this perfect hybrid beast for my personal work flow.
Dope to see u using it, taking some great scenes here man!

Just found your channel. Started off with a Canon SX410 about 9 years ago. Then in 2019, I decided to switch over to Panasonic. Got the GX85 as my first interchangeable lens camera. Learned with the kit lens. The bought a Meike 35mm 1.7. Used to for car shoots. Dropped it during a shoot. Bought the f1.4 version. Used it for about 2 years.
Just last week I decided to finally upgrade to a S5ii with the kit lens. It's such a change in quality from the GX85 to the S5ii.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the S5ii! I've been using Lumix since the MFT lineup till the S5iiX today. It's just very justifiable for me as it's very affordable for all the features you'd get. Basically the camera pays off really quickly. It so makes sense especially when you're just starting your own business/work. The quality and the color is just on par with other cameras. And oh yes, the IBIS really help me to travel light. No more backpain from carrying tripods etc.

Nice! Good to see the Lumix S5 II being used for street photography. Did the size get in the way for discreet street photography? For example, Fujifilm X-T5, X-E4 and Sony A7C are smaller. It seems a bit chunky. But perhaps it is still do-able.
Looks like a fun camera with great user interface vs more utilitarian cameras such as the Sonys. The images and footage are certainly beautiful! How do the LUTs compare to Fujifilm recipes use? Comparable?

I had the original S5, loved everything about it … except for the 2.4m evf so I sold it and picked up an S1. I preferred the size of the S5 and the colors as well (even though I only shoot raw). I rarely edited the colors, only small exposure and shadows/highlights; such a joy to work with.
I tended to use the highlight priority photometry and either vivid or l. Monochrome d for 99% of my photos (same on the S1) and that worked exceptionally well for getting colors right in camera. I also set the AF button to autofocus “far” for when I wanted to shoot through a fence or other obstruction. I set the WB/ISO/Exposure Comp buttons to only work while holding them down -I found this to be the quickest way to adjust these settings without accidentally changing something.
On all my previous and current Lumix cameras I turn off the right D-Pad button because I constantly bump it by accident. The up arrow is photometry, the left is monochrome evf mode and down is sometimes WB with the wheel around the d pad as the adjustment for the iso.
    Sorry for the long comment.

Hello Faizal👋! Thanks for this new video! I am shooting a S5 (I) for about one year now (besides my Leica M10-R) and actually I am impressed with it. The usability is great as well as the lenses are. I use it for streetphotography and for travel (took it two times to Japan last year🤩) and although it’s a little bit big it’s okay. Especially with the small and very well designed Sigma fixed focal length lenses of the so called contemporary i-series (I have the 24mm, 45mm and 90mm). The Panasonic lenses are a little bit bigger but they are pretty good, too.
The only thing that bugs me a little bit is that Panasonic is leaning heavily towards the video crowd, and I am almost never using the video features. That’s why I don’t think about switching to the S5 II. It probably is a good photo camera, but psychologically it’s a showstopper for me that this camera is so video centric. But I would like to see more videos from you about your experience shooting the S5 II😉✌️👋!

The performance of the lenses is outstanding. The S5 is a joy to use and the S1, while a bit bulky, is one of the most solid cameras I have ever used (and Ive been a photographer since 1970). Bottom line, I feel the Lumix system has been overlooked for sure.

GH6 is my main hybrid camera and I can’t go back to no open gate. Perfect for shooting RUclips and Insta content at same time. I shoot with a an OM5 when I want smaller size/weight, but always miss the open gate.

I was shooting on the Lumix S5 for close to a year before I made the switch the the Fuji XH2S; ironically because I wanted more out of taking photos than the video specs. Photos on the Lumix are great, especially whenever I went to monochrome. Seeing this makes me contemplate if I just waited for the S5ii instead of switching to Fuji but I don't regret it at all!

No camera is perfect. I suppose it comes down to what you can afford, what you can tolerate, what you need, and the results you can achieve with the gear you have. M43. APSC. FF. Does it make a difference for the results you achieve?
I don’t have answers. Not for myself or for you. I’m in the midst of a GAS attack but will get over it. I’m now retired and can’t just stupidly march into the camera store and point at that camera. I can’t say rap it up and take the new body or lens home. I wish that if I had better gear my images would improve. It simply doesn’t work like that.

I was really close to buying S5 II before Christmas as there were crazy deals. For this price this is the best full frame system in my opinion. Mind blowing IBIS and AF is perfectly capable for most of the stuff. In the end I bought Canon R8 as I also got crazy good deal, even better than with Panasonic. Two main reasons for me were the size and AF for catching my running kids. I am sure Panasonic will improve their AF but I am disappointed that they are focussed on releasing those big chunky bodies and they do it even for micro 4/3. I would happily add G9X successor purely for travel but it seems this line is not in their interest anymore.
Oh and by the way I would be interested in covering hybrid photo / video shooting topic by you.

Some great shots, digging the evolution of your style! Fuji shooter here and I’m really enticed by the S5ii. I’m disappointed with the XH2’s ibis and video performance (might be down to user error) and feel like the S5ii is the camera I want the XH2 to be.

It's not user error. My Canon R8 stabilises video way better with IS lens + digital stabe only than whatever Fuji can do which was shocking to me after the switch. With Fuji it's better to get body without IBIS and use lens with stabilisation. Their IBIS is still jerky and their AF is far behind. Even Panasonic has better AF now.

I've been using a GH4 for years. My twins are using a GH4 and a GH5. Later this year, I will add a G9 Mark II, which has essentially the same feature set as the S5 IIX - without a fan, but with a Micro 4/3 sensor. Lumix makes more sense for video and stills hybrid work than any other cameras I've tried.

Very nice images. Are these colors straight out of camera? They look really appealing. I’ve been using Nikon but the Panasonic colors intrigue me. Would welcome other users’ impressions too. Thanks

How do you feel about the size/weight of the S5II compared to smaller Fujifilm cameras like the X100V? Do you find it draws more attention for street photography or is harder / more annoying to carry around?

    • @FaizalWestcott
      @FaizalWestcott  5 месяцев назад +5

The smaller and lighter weight the better in my mind, so if I'm just doing street photography and not video as well, I already own cameras that fit that bill. For hybrid shooting, it's a different story, and I'm much more willing to accept the trade off of a bigger camera for better video quality/functions.

Ma, I love your videos. I'm a Fuji Xpro 2 user and really love the Lumix S5 ii/X. The S5ii is such a killer deal for video its mad. I want this camera and hopefully will get it soon. I'm only 3:36 in haha.

Beginner Lumix shooter here! My first ever camera was a G7 so I stuck with the brand and now I have a s5ii. Only started taking photography seriously about a year ago. Anyways bit of an arbitrary goal of mine especially at my current skillset, but I'd love to be one of the first photographers to really rep the Lumix brand and be a part in making the brand a more popular choice.

Bought mine with the kit and the 50mm 1.8 in October. Wasn't able to use it much but so far the camera is amazing, but the menu is very confusing for me (Used Fuji before)

Sold Sony APSC. Got Nikon full frame but bought the S5II for video. £2k including 20-60 kit, 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8. That’s a full kit to get started. Pictures are great. Just working on my video editing. Might need to upgrade DaVinci to make the most of video modes. Can put LUTS over the log. Insane.

i am really suprisied how positive your response was. xD i have the cam, i love the cam. but just for video and thats it. it is a faboulous video camera but it really lacks the enjoy in shooting for photos imo. The battery life sucks, the cameras heavy and huge! the switch between evf and monitor is horrendously slow. At any other camera i didnt even thought aboutt that there is something to load up inside the camera because the switch was always instanstly. i mean yeah the sharpness is incredible. the low light noise is fantastic, the evf is huge and sharp and bright and the IBIS is just a dream but i really did not take it with me outside because it ist just to big and heavy for me. it is hase some awesome featues, thats why i still have this camera for video or when i need a second body for photography but for main photography i really did not enjoy it at all.
i plan to make a video on this and my experience soon ^^
