What was your favourite tip? If there's any other settings you want me to go through in a separate video, let me know... :)
Hey Sam, what SD card covers all possible video modes of S5? Is V60 enough?
Hey. I use these ones geni.us/cAPwzWq
👍🏻🎥 hope this helps.
What lenses did you use filming this episode?
I used the 24mm and had the 35mm on in some of the examples. 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland Thanks. As far as I get you used 24mm when filming yourself at a desk and 35mm filming different objects or S5 to have stronger bokeh? Did you use 50mm once?
I just bought the Lumix s5 as my first real camera. This video was so helpful. Thank you for doing such an amazing job!
Watching a second time I think this is one of the very best step up videos I've ever watched. I can't thank you enough.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed this video and I hope it’s come in useful 🙏🏻🎥🤩 thanks for watching
Cheers Sam, awesome content. Easily the most helpful and informative video yet on how to customise the Panasonic S5.
Wow thank you! 🤩🙏🏻 I’m so pleased this helped you. 🎥 thanks for watching
Great video. Thanks a lot. I've just bought the S5 for videography so it's really helpful for me.
Extremely helpful! It's hard go find good tutorials for the S5 so this was great!
Thank you. I’m pleased you found this helpful 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hi Sam. Thanks for this great video. You mentioned that Lumix S5 has 5 custom settings. But you can actually have 12 of them. Just go to Menu Settings > Settings > Custom Mode Settings > Limit No. of Custom Mode and select 10. You will then be able to use C1, C2 and C3-1 to C3-10. It is quite useful as 5 Custom Modes was not enough for me.
@samholland
I was looking for an instruction to use the S5 with the optimum.
Your video is great and easy to follow.
Well done
Hi Sam, just a small correction: "1-Area AF Moving Speed" (9:15) is only for the movement speed of that 1-area box through the display when you push joystick. It doesn´t affect the camera focus itself. I was also confused when I saw this option for the first time. Try it :) Anyways, thank you for your great content and positive vibes!
The whole thing was great cant believe the functions and ability of this little baby - the exposure bits are my fav - awesome video buddy !
Cheers man. What a great camera eh?! Especially for the price!!! 🤯
Yeh so good for exposure features. Thanks man. And thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Top job! After years of using Canon, then into Sony for film… I just had an S5 delivered for my day job.
Instantly love it, the vlog 4K footage looks great, but had a few niggles and things I wasn’t 100% sure about.
This video totally cleared all of those up, so thank you mate! 🙏
Hi joe. So pleased this video helped. I hope you enjoy the S5 🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland how good is auto focus ?
Thanks Sam very informative video, very well explained for us newbies, just got my S5ii and love it! new sub added thank you
Inspiring it's the word. Definitely works with standard Canon Rec 709 settings. I've ordered S5 and hoping it will be similar in workflow. Thanks for reviewing and approving this camera. Your videos was actually one of which convinced me to purchase S5. Seeing that in can outperform R6 in many aspects, as well as photography capability with ISO invariance - where you are able to recover much more in RAW than with any other cameras - made my choice. Another attribute was the price, I have to admit. For around 1700 Euro 💶 with two native lenses was not even a half what I would have to pay for Canon RF system in such combo. Now looking forward to work around this camera next week. Thanks a lot.
Duuuude, thank you sooo much for helping me out with my S5 !!! Awesome Video, great work, Channel subscribed!
Thank YOU 🙏🏻 glad it helped 🎥
That was very useful for different Panasonic cameras too. Thank you! 💕
You are welcome! 🤩🎥🙏🏻
Probably the best settings video I’ve ever seen! Great job!👍
Thanks so much Kenney! 🤩🙏🏻 I’m pleased this helped 🎥
hell yeah!!! I'm currently finding THE best settings for vlogging thanks again!
Thanks Sam! This video was really helpful as I am trying to set up my S5!
That was a really helpful guide - saved immediately to my Pinterest. Im also looking at the Gh6 at the moment mainly because of the 10-25 F1.7 its the full frame equivalent of 20 - 50 F3.5 - this is 99% of my lens range I use and also the exact F stop I mainly work with. Potentially I could be a one lens run and gun on my social media work.
That sounds exciting! I should be reviewing that this week so let me know if you have any questions! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Very helpful and also to users of the previous generations of the camera such as the DMC-FZ300
This is just a brilliant video tutorial about Lumix S5! Thanks 🔥
Thank you! 🤩🙏🏻 I’m so pleased you found this helpful! 🎥
Epic help, you are a life saver for a full frame Lumix newbie 😉
So pleased this helped you 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Gracias I bought this camera, and I am very happy, with your advice everything will be better. garcias de and greetings from Vienna
Thank YOU! I’m pleased this helped you 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hi, you can also easily change custom buttons by hold-pressing the button for three seconds. Also, another autofocus tip from Luca Bono, is that when the camera detects a face, you can press the dial button or touch the square in the screen and once it shows a kind of intersecting lines to the box, it means, it kind of locks to that face.
Hi Ralph. Yes you can press and hold to assign some of the main buttons. That sounds cool. Thanks for sharing 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! This was so helpful since I am a complete beginner and have struggled trying to set my S5 up in the best way. The manual is in-depth but pretty much worthless for me.
Hey David. I’m so pleased this helped! 🤩🙏🏻 when I first tried a Panasonic I was a little confused so I was hoping this would help people. And actually it’s quite simple when you know 🤩 refer back to this video if you get stuck or ask me any questions 🙏🏻🎥
Brilliant review
Thank you Sam! I'll use this guide. It's a very helpful video 🙏
Thanks Franco. So pleased this helps 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Sam i have to thank you this video is rare but very useful thanks for putting so much time to create this nice video man.
My pleasure 🤩 I’m pleased it helped. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
I can't believe that this camera has all of these features! It's really impressive
Ace innit! Thanks for watching bro! 🎥🙏🏻🤩
With the recent sale I decided to order one and try it out as compared to the XT4. I appreciate your videos very much.
Thanks Tony 🤩🙏🏻🎥
useful setup for Lumix S5.
Super valuable content here mate. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I might be making the dive from the Canon R6 to this camera.
Hey. So pleased you found this helpful 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Thanks I love your content. If it’s not much work I love to see more of this video’s about the S5.
Thank you buddy. 🙏🏻 what type of videos would you like to see? 🎥
This was so helpful!
brilliant concise video well executed
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. LOVE THE TUTORIAL. KEEP THEM COMING.
Thank YOU! Hope this helped 🙏🏻🤩🎥
LUV'D THIS!!
Thanks for making this tutorial. Very helpful!!! :)
My pleasure. I’m so pleased it helped 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Wow. I had no idea the camera was so customizable. I have two S5s and I have a lot to learn!
Hey. I’m so pleased you found something useful here 🤩 such great cameras! 🎥
Very helpful!
Thanks for doing this video. This will help so much with my S5
I’m so pleased this helped 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Just got mine, super helpful thank you
My pleasure. Glad it helped. If you got the S5ii I did a video on those updated features also. Hope it helped 🎥🤩
Letsgoooo! Awesome video bro!
Thank you!!!!! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Fantastic video, almost an identical set up to me! Also, I think you may have inspired me out of a creative lull. I haven't posted for a year 😅 I might make some break down vids too. Really great work Sam! 😀
Hey Luke. That’s amazing! So pleased you’re feeling inspired! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Great info, I got one myself and it’s an easy to use camera
Thanks. I hope this helps 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Some great tips here Sam. Love the deep dive on the autofocus, it's not something I've really used since the C300.
Still loads to learn on the S5 and this is a great reference guide to keep coming back to.
Once again, thanks for a cracking video Sam 🙂
Thanks James. So pleased this helps 🤩🙏🏻🎥 thank YOU
Thank you Sam, great content, I just got my LUMIX S5 today, any advice on what lens I should get for b roll videos?
So helpful. Thanks
Thank you! Glad it helped 🙏🏻🤩🎥
I'm about three RUclips video recordings (you know what I mean) and a few zoom meetings in with the S5 now and I find the AF tracks me most of the time but I have had to use strategic B roll to cover over any problem shots a few times.... There are a lot of reasons why I'm going to stick with it though. I wonder if there will be some improvements via firmware.
Thank You for the video
Thank YOU for watching 🙏🏻🎥 hope it helped
All very nice tips.
Thanks Will 🤩🎥
For recording an interview, what settings do you recommend for autofocus? Excellent video, thanks!
Hi Sam, thanks for this, I’ve just brought my first camera
The S5 is there anything else I need to know. I will be filming car detailing only
Hi Sam!
Thanks as usual for your thorough and great videos.
I may have missed something but I gather you switched from Canon to Panasonic for video work?
Since I started as professional photographer 10 years (did some small video works during the years) I always used Canon and I really enjoyed the experience with the brand.
Right now I don't work as a pro anymore but I'm doing personal video project for portfolio and as a hobby.
The new R5C is really tempting me but we're talking about 3 times the prices of the S5 and so far it wouldn't be used for any professional work, just for personal use.
The S5 it's very feature packed to be honest and as I mainly work handheld (I have a DJI RSC2 but as with every gimbal setup it way bigger than shooting handheld) the IBIS would literally be a plus. I have also a Ninja V to pair with the S5 and I own various EF lenses from Canon.
But there's also the R5. So the choice would be between S5, R5 or R5C.
I consider myself a hybrid shooter, and right now I've a EOS R (very limited in terms of video feature), so picture side I'm covered (eventually I'd sell it if I'm going to R5/R5C route).
What suggestion could you give me from a filmmaker that switched to Lumix S5 from Canon?
In the past I owned a GH4, so I'm not new to Panasonic world, but it was m4/3 and I couldn't fall in love with this sensor.
Thanks for your patience and time reading my comment!
Sam that’s a great detailed tutorial and insight on S5! Which Sigma lens would you recommend that would work best for low light and vlogging? Thanks!
Thank you. Pleased you liked the tutorial. There’s a sigma 14-24 f/2.8 that looks quite good. I’d be tempted to give that a go 🎥
Priceless, many thanks.
Thank YOU! 🤩🙏🏻
@@SamHolland Hey Sam, which value have you set your in camera sharpness to in Vlog?
Hey. I set mine to 0 or sometimes -3
@@SamHollandthanks, I have mine set to -5 but will do some experimentation with other values for the crispiest picture
Nice. 👌🏻
Watching this for LUMIX S5-ll. All is still valid except for "continuous auto focus." Is that right?
Brilliant, mate. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it!
Hi. Hope this helps. I do have another video specifically for the S5ii 👌🏻
@@SamHolland I saw it. But this video, you explain a bit differently. And maybe liked it more than the new cut?
I have a question: for general b-roll (people, object...), What is the best autofocus setting? -1 speed and +3 sensibility? Thanks!
Thanks for the movie! :)
Hello Sam and your subscribers. I want to thank you for this great video. I wonder if you know about an in depth class that explains every single feature in this camera geared towards a beginner film maker?
Hello and thank you for your videos 👍
I have just acquired this S5 and I am very happy with it 🙂 On the other hand, I have a question, if you can answer it I would appreciate it.
I know that this device has the IBIS or a floating sensor. However I am aware that the sensor moves when stopped but is it normal that in operation, it can still move. (Much less but it moves a little depending on the movements made)
Can you tell me if this is the case for you? If it is normal? Thanks in advance
thank you
Man very great Video and Super Audio quality :) So the first tip is a bit superfluous because there is a separate button to the left of the sensor. But otherwise, our settings are almost identical.
Thanks Paul! 🎥🤩🙏🏻
Excelent,Verry Good
This is super helpful also for other Lumix cameras, since the menus and settings are pretty similar. Also, regarding in-camera LUTs, there are some really useful ones you can download, like a false color one. I'm still a filmmaking noob, but some people might appreciate the extra tools for nailing exposure.
By the way, are you on the lookout for the Lumix GH6? I know you shoot full frame, but with your partnership with Lumix, maybe they can send you one down the line... :) Would be great to have a review from you!
Hi Alex. I’m pleased you found this helpful 🤩👌🏻 that sounds cool!
Ah well there maybe something coming soon 😜👍🏻🎥 stay tuned!! Thanks again for watching
Hey Sam, I truly love the quality and image feeling S5 gives on this video. So want to double-check if you use S5 with or without an external monitor and what video mode, codec, and bitrate you use? I just want to understand if it's possible to achieve this quality internally with just body and lens or need an external monitor to shoot RAW or codec with a higher bitrate than S5 has internally (200Mbps)?
Hi. I use the ninja v sometimes but you can get the same quality internally. Just use the highest quality settings used in this video and you’ll be good to go 👌🏻🎥🙏🏻
THANK U MAN.
Thank YOU
Hello Sam Holland , thank you so much for your help , big like 124 , have lovely week , stay safe .
My pleasure. 🙏🏻 thank YOU for watching! Have a great week too 🤩🎥
Thanks for the informative video! Where do you actually change the fps on this camera?
Hi. You select this in the same place as you set the resolution. 🙏🏻🎥
Hi Sam, When using false Colour from an external monitor what colours are best for exposing this camera.? Thanks Just got this camera after watching your vids.
How about a video on how to use a lut from beginning to end (camera settings, exposure, importing, applying luts and then fine tuning them)?
Thank you 🙏🏻 I’m working on some exposure and colour grading tips videos so stay tuned. Thanks for the suggestions 🎥
the s5 is a beast, i cant believe i have just picked up like new one for £600. what a bargain.
Wonderful video, I have just bought an S5 and have used your video to set up. One problem: when I set the SS/gain operation to Angle/ISO my display still reads 11° and not 180°. What am I doing wrong?
So all you need to do now is adjust your wheel so it reads 180 💪🏻🎥
Late to the S5 party but this was very helpful, old chap.
🙏🏻🤩
Quick question please. I did have the bottom button of the spin wheel on the back assigned to SS but it's now gone? I can assign something else to it and it works but not SS any thoughts please? Thank you Sam
Hi Sam, great vid, still relevant. Question, what happens when I have filmed in two different frame rates, one in 4k 25fps, one in 4k 50fps ? I would like to include both in the same timeline, so what timeline frame rate speed do I select at the beginning when creating a new project and what output speed do I select to make sure it plays correctly, and plays both normal motion and and slow motion ? Total beginner, cheers.
You should shoot in the same frame rate unless you plan to slow down a clip. This requires some basic planning. However, an editor like DaVinci Resolve will have no problem mixing clips. For your project timeline, choose the frame rate you wish to target as output.
Hi Mate, I could not find SS/Gain Operation in my Lumix S5 settings. Is it that I need to update my firmware of the camera ? Can you please advise on this how to get that item enabled in my Camera ?
Hello. I have an s5 I'm happy with it, but sometimes I have a problem with the white color is too overexposed what can you do about it? how to set the masterpedestal, exposure measurement.
Hi. It depends on what situation and lighting you’re using. Try adjusting your exposure using different things such as, aputure, ISO and shutter speed. OR you could turn the brightness down of your lights. If you can’t do this, try a VND filter 🙏🏻 hope this helps
Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial! I have a problem though, when I select the shutter angle-mode. It doesn't seem to lock at 180 degree, but keeps changing depending on where I am pointing the camera... Is there a place in the setup, where you define - and lock - the angle?
Hi. Thanks for watching. I’m pleased this video helped. It sounds like you have the exposure mode set to auto. Make sure you are in M mode for manual exposure and that should help.
🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland yes - thank you!
I have a S5IIX and I normally film in C4K 30p Prores. Do you believe there is a better setting for my videos?
Hey mate, great video as always!
Do you know if there's any way to exclude some settings (such as white balance) from the custom modes?
It drives me cray when I'm out shooting something and quickly want to get some slo-mo footage, pop it in "C2" for instance and it changes the WB to whatever I had it set to when I saved that preset. Any ideas? Cheers /Fred
Hey. Thank you 🙏🏻
Ah I know what you mean. It is frustrating… I don’t think there is a way unfortunately but let us know if you find something 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Trying to sort out sd cards for redundant video recording. Is there a limit on quality since one card is UHS 1 and the other is UHS 2?
Is this still a good midrange option? just bought one with lense on amazon - will it be good enough for my media business?
very helpful, my footage is normally garbage, feel free to offer me any other advice 👍👍
Hey Mike. I have a series of videos on the way over the next few weeks. All tips to get better looking video. Stay tuned and thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥 PS why don’t you think your video looks good? Anything in particular you struggle with?
I like the the fact that you can change the shutter speed to Angle/ISO. However the rear dial still changes the degree. Is there a way of disabling this? I feel I will easily knock that rear dial and if I change the SS by accident and didn’t notice it could have a big implication on the footage captures
YES there is actually! I have a full video on how to sort this coming very soon. Stay tuned. If you want to message on Instagram I can walk you through it prior
I miss my Canon G7x mkII, nice and simple. Now I have to study an 800 page manual for my S5ii
Hello. When I was recording from far the footage came out blurry. Is it because I had it on the wrong auto focus mode?
Hi Sam, you convinced me to get an S5, but I’m thinking of waiting for an S5H.
Hey. Yeh I can’t wait for that camera. It’s gonna blow everything else away 🤩🎥
@@SamHolland Yeah, a little scared of how much it might cost, but I know it's on the rumour mill. I'm looking at that camera, and also (mainly for AF) some of the new upcoming Nikon's which have some great video features included.
does lumix s5 record 4k 50/60p with external monitor? I do use lumix s5 and smallhd action 5, and in hdmi options 4k 50p 10bit does not allow to record internally to memory card, and 4k 50p 8bit option can record but the view on the monitor is purple. Is this the same with shinobi, feelworld etc? I wonder it's limitation of s5 or just smallhd action 5 can't handle 4k 50/60p. I mean just a preview monitors, not bm assist or ninja v with ssd.
Nailed it! When can you do one of these on the FX3?
Cheers brother! 😂 I’ll have to have a go on yours! 🎥👍🏻
Hii sam. How can i disable Direct Focus are square on display ? I dont want see this. Thanks
Hi Sam, I’ve been using a Canon 70d to make YT videos and it’s starting to overheat and be generally annoying!
For guitar videos would you recommend the GH5ii, GH6 or maybe even the Canon EOSR? Obviously the autofocus is a concern and so far I am leaning towards the GH5ii.
Hey andy. The GH6 is great but if you’re concerned about autofocus why not go for the Lumix S5ii? 🎥
@@SamHolland I thought you might say that! :)
Would these settings be mostly relevant for the S5 ii. Thank you.
Hi. Yeh most of them will but there are a few bells and whistles extra on the ii BUT my setup video is coming next week so stay tuned 🤩🙏🏻🎥
so you use V log for both SDR and HDR10?
Hey mate, a quick question that is driving me nuts. In M mode, when i change my settings (iso,ss,fstop) my live view preview doesnt change, but the actual photo yes. That is driving me crazy, how could I see what I actually gonna have it?
YES! While shooting photos right? Go into the settings tab ⚙️ - monitor/display (4th tab down) - constant preview - set to A mode: aperture, M mode: Aperture & SS
Hope this helps 🤩🎥🙏🏻
For some reason I don't have the same Rec Quality options although I have the same camera. None of my settings go up to 150Mbps, did I do something wrong?
Great Vid Sam, I'm thinking about buying the S5. I have the FZ2500 and I want to upgrade. What do you suggest for filming golfers, like a golf vlog? Auto focus the whole area since I would need the whole scene in focus?
Hi. I would recommend just adjusting the aputure to get more in focus. That will help. I would also guess you don’t need a blurry background as it would be nice to see how far the ball travels? Hope this helps 🎥🙏🏻
@@SamHolland oh I see. I appreciate it. Thank you!
Is the ninja display required to shoot video in 4096x2160 60fps 10 bit apple prores 422
