    I personally would jump from S5 to S5 II X, rather than the S5 II. Or, most likely, use S5 as B Cam. It is an excellent camera and I definitely feel it will go down in history as a cult camera in the L mount ecosystem

    No reason to upgrade if you have the OG.
    The new one still crops at 4K60 to APSC and no faster slow mo like the G9II.

    I will keep my S5 alongside the S5 II, because of Pre-Burst Mode, excellent Timelapse features (no Autofocus needed) and overall I love it still. I never felt it was holding me back in any way. I just wanted a second one, that's why I bought the S5 II.

      Hey man, I'm planning on buying a S5 but my main concern is AF performance. I'm a photographer first so I would like to know if with latest firmware is any good for portraits and events.

    • @Mandaw
      @Mandaw 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@dosoaz The af performance on the S5 for photography is perfectly fine. I often shoot wildlife on my S5 and I haven't had any problems with it. I think a lot of people don't realise that contrast-detect is more accurate than phase-detect. Sure phase-detect is faster but contrast-detect is more accurate. So for portraits, the af will work just fine, as long as you're not shooting in the dark at night

    • @dosoaz
      @dosoaz 11 месяцев назад

      @@Mandaw that's the part where I'm not sure about this camera as I'm planning to get into nightclub photography so as long AFS works for that use; what do you think? Should I give up if that's the case?

    • @Mandaw
      @Mandaw 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@dosoaz I don't shoot much in low light but in my experience, the af sometimes hunts when it's dark. Generally if there isn't much contrast the af will hunt. I think in your situation it might be better to get the S5 ii but idk. You might to talk to someone who has experience with the af in low light. I'm sure there are a couple of videos on youtube aswell of people shooting events in low light.

    I only shoot stills and I absolutely love the IQ from the S5. I understand the contrast detection AF is not good for video or sports photography, but for most other things, it's brilliant. I would definitely recommend it for portrait, fashion, landscapes, weddings, events, etc. It is a real value for the money.

    Have had my s5 since late 2020, it's a great everyday driver for someone who needs a capable hybrid video/stills camera. I have an FX3 and FX6 at work and they're great cameras but for a single shooter I still prefer my S5, yes the auto focus is weaker but it's not horrible and the other areas where the camera shines kinda offer a better value statement in my mind. Back when I bought it investing in L mount was a bit a gamble, but now there's a really great lineup of lenses and I've found it cheaper/easier to adapt lenses from other systems to L than to other systems which has been a plus as someone who uses alot of vintage/second hand lenses.

    £783 brand new from B&H or Amazon US, assuming you can send it to a friend there, or find some way around import taxes to the UK. Even with import taxes it's less than £1000 new. Also autofocus performance with this body depends a lot on the lens choice.

    The S5iix is already a massive improvement over the original GH5, (AF and SSD).
    and way ahead of other brands (features and price).
    But If you are already making money in Film, TV then the Netflix-approved S1H is where the perfectionists are going for.
    Should Panasonic introduce S1h MK2 (with Phase AF) then even serious amateurs would buy it, and keep the S5ii as a second-angle camera, or a stand by.

    As a S5 user i really want S5 II . But if someone is new and want to invest 1000€ into a camera they should definately picked a S5 used ( there is a lot of S5 used thanks to S5 II)
    It's the S5 II but with a poor AF (S5 II a bit better in stabilisation) but on image quality it's same up until 4K (above if you use 6K etc okay i reckon it's not the same).
    People have to know that AF is not the same in photography and Video (easier to af in photo than video). There is HUGE difference (main reason to switch to S5 II)
    I've missed a lot of footage because of pulsing AF of S5 (ive mastered all modes and they are needed to get 60 % of the AF of S5 II). whereas they finally correct their WEASKEST POINT OF ALL TIME. If you can put more take S5 II , if you need a B (cam s5 1 for 800-1000 € is just the best camera you can buy, even to put as webcam for stream).

    for the small savings, its absolutely NOT worth getting the original UNLESS you ONLY are interested in STILLS. For video, Phase AF and Active Cooling are HUGE. You can get a Mark 2 on the used market for only slightly more expensive than the OG. It's not worth the small saving.

S5 required settings to be made, even in auto from a guide book it never really pushed hard for some reason. With Autofocus, how does the camera know which person or persons you want to focus on in a crowd ??? It's not possible for a camera to know which person you are looking at, hence manual focus.
