They should make the software free and allow you to purchase the tracks you want when you want. This would generate more interest and revenue that could be used to grow their BS catalog.
Would rather have a fixed cost coming out the bank each month than having to save up to splurge on songs I might play just a couple times. Easier to budget that way. I think if they can get some better songs licensed and official charts released it should be all good but it's gonna be a slow start and might even be dead on arrival without any big names released like RIGHT now. I was skeptical of Spotify back in the day but now it's a damn near essential I could never go back to buying albums individually, wonder if Rocksmith will be the same. Good thing is there's no contract so if I get bored I can just cancel and not feel like i've spent £50 + £100 worth of DLC costs just for it sit their idle. Finally someone saying what should be said about this game. The track list is so over inflated that I literally only found 3 songs out of their 8000+ repertoire that I am interested in learning. My prediction is that this model won't hold up or survive for long.
Ubisoft planned to kill their one arguably perfected formula. By that I mean, as TSBM said, they're the only ones to do it THIS good. But this new formula is so anti-consumer that I regret buying the game. I never even minded that songs by bands I really liked were sometimes behind a paywall. For instance, Type O Negative. The reason i didn't mind that is because it was just an option. The fact this new updates breaks free CDLC's does not feel unintentional, I think they very much plan to make it impossible for people to use free CDLC and will instead want you forking over for the new subscription. Fat chance, I'll just learn the old-fashioned way, thanks Ubi.
when spotify started, not many labels wanted to put their songs onto the service at first until it got popular, im guessing their trying to do this with rocksmith plus once there is enough subscribers, but it feels like it will fail before it gets to that point, big sad
They have hundreds of Clannad songs but not the one song people know with Bono. They use A COVER of Where is my Mind… and someone had to sit there and map the songs and make simpler arrangements. Why?!!
Good video, answers my concerns pretty much perfectly. I'm going to stick with RS14. $15/month is a steep price with that disappointing library. There's also zero chance I'm ever going to see more obscure artists I want on it, i.e. a lot of J-rock (there was J-rock music on release for RS14 though).
Another issue not talked about is if you have lots of DLC, and we know it is NOT in the plus...are you really going to switch between both versions?? RS had an import tool for 2014
One thing that will always hold back a tool like this is going to be the licensing. I remember a lot of people reached out about getting stuff like Ozzy but they were always at the mercy of the owner and they never got a response. Had to rely on the awesome folks at customs forge to play along with Randy Rhoads

Rocksmith 2014 with mods is far better than RS+ imo. Ubisoft was so shady, that they released an update for 2014 a litte after Rocksmith+ release. The new update crashed the 2014 version on steam that it was purely unplayable, it would not boot up. Thats because the new update does not compute with mods or specifically the CDLC files. The only way to fix this problem as of now was to obtain a beta code to install the previous update file. THAT was pure bullshit. The only way to find out about this was through this one guy on steam discussions or a reddit discussion that for some reason is very secretive and hard to find. Its still unfixable to some players out there which is unfortunate. Ubisoft knows the Customforge is there big competitor and the fans are not too fond of RS+.
Yeah and opting out of beta is not a fix at all. I've tried all methods, and now I can launch 2014 but I have no audio. I've spent over $100 on song packs, never had CDLCs installed, and they still messed up the game. Shows how much respect they have for loyal fans who were willing to donate money to them, ZERO. Pathetic in my honest opinion!

RS+ even lacks tons of classic Rock and Metal tracks that are available for RS 2014 both as DLC and CDLC. Also, what are 7000 songs worth if only a much smaller percentage comes with authentic tabs? I rather pay for propper arrangements pr. song than jumping on an half-arsed subscription model.

I am missing my DLC songs on my Rocksmith 2014 remastered on my PS. I have moves from ps4 pro to ps5 and now when I have instaled the game again all of my purchased songs are gone. Why?

I don't get why anyone would change. I have never had trouble with 2014 which is AMAZING... Sound is great, no lag (but that could be my because i have fast computer), only note detection on a couple of songs in couple of passages out hundreds! I wanted this to be great. I'm looking to kick-start my guitar playing again (been off and on for many years) and having got the jack dongle and cheap key many years back, thought this could be amazing. I drilled into the song list and it is indeed a hard pass for what you get in the sub.
I just came across Rocksmith+, and I own the remastered copy but never had the cable to connect the guitar, am I wrong to assume without the cable, there's any way to connect the guitar with this new Rocksmith+ options(Apps)? I am getting a feeling this Rocksmith+ is a completely new facade to pay for...
I had an external soundcard with a jack input which I used and that was fine. If you don't have anything with a jack input you'll need the cable, or if not that then one of those usb to guitar Jack interfaces.
Can you please tell me where the progress bar is at the top and what is disappearning bubbles. Any video showing actual play through has the progress bar not available. How is that a good thing? How is NOT having score attack good? Competition is good and fun

Thanks a lot for a proper review. It's really sad that they're slowly destroying 2014's catalogue. Not sure why they didn't just make RSmith 2022. It worked, I'm sure! (Even if they did have a ludicruous amount of DLC worth into the ££££'s
Imagine how much time you would waste searching for music on plus. I tried it in Beta and was so mad I was wasting time instead of practicing in regular RS.
Ubisoft actually just updated their song tracks and they added parts to songs that wasn't there when they released it. And by the way Ubisoft does have a lot of the songs from the other rocksmith games.
No session mode to teach you improv, phrasing, keys, modes, etc.... no equivalent to guitarcade to let you practice changing chords, or learn all your scales in any key and any mode and of course the awful tracklist. Rocksmith 2014 does SO many more things to actually teach you guitar. RS+ just looks prettier. That's it. Maybe a year from now we will see something better. Till then: I already unsubscribed.
I just loaded up my RS2014 and purchased Holy Wars and 5 mins alone...must be licensing issues as they would not launch....but at least i can still access the tracks i purchased back then and continue having fun with the songs i never got around to :) Subscription based model is not appealing to me.

I'd honestly recommend rocksmith 2014 as it is a better and more rounded product. The videos you get with rs+ aren't any better than ones that can be found on RUclips.

Two things made me choose to stick with my copy of Rocksmith remastered. 1. The subscription model. Knowing how licenses work. They will sell this game with Boston and some Metallica but the second they lose those licenses there goes your ability to play em. They will pull them from the menu and now you’re just left with the lame filler crap. If you think it’s scarce NOW!? Just wait. 2. The price of said subscription. $15 a month comes to $120 a year. Every year as long as you wish to play. Sure you can stop playing it but you then when the game gets shutdown in a few years you’ll never be able to play it again. You’ll be paying to play the game but you’ll never actually own it. You’ll be left with nothing but the filler crap by the end. If the game boots up at all.
Honestly I feel like overall it is just a step backward. I find very few songs that I actually enjoy playing, I have no ability to buy or add more, the Guitarcade and multiplayer are both gone and the lessons are really just the same stuff, just rerecorded. Even the interface is more complicated than it needs to be. There is no way I can justify the $15 per month for this in it's current state. Rocksmith 2014 was a masterpiece. I think they failed horribly here and by looking at how few arrangements have been done in the workshop and how even a google search shows almost no news about the game or articles or forums, Ubisoft dropped the ball completely. It's like they are managed by EA.
yeah i figured, I was lucky enough to get beta access, it was kinda disappointing to see the lack of tracks then. i figured ti would have been better by now.
I wish they would have incorporated the note highway customization like they did with the Beta. Not a fan at all of the new one. It's way too translucent.
Thing is, play it on a pc and use custom DLC if you dont its way to expensive to get the songs you want and most of it wont be available. Its the same with Netflix you pay but they cant get most of the permissions for all movies so watching online for free is still way better
Rocksmith 2014 is good enough as it is. There are a few quirks, but nonetheless I use that to practice scales in band session, even the guitarcade was fun, string skip saloon, castle to chordead. Such a good game itself
Do you think they’ll ever add support for more instruments such as ukulele? I’ve been learning how to play ukulele for the past few months and this game seems really cool, however it sucks that it’s only for bass and guitar as of now.
I don't like the subscription model - I'd much prefer if existing DLC could be carried forward and continue to add more music to the library. The only way a subscription model makes any sense is if they do some deal with e.g. Spotify to have access to all available music and IDK, apply as many charts as possible and allow community charts. Also, more personally, I was in the beta test and I could not solve sound problems when running it on Linux...

I would love to pay for a subscription, but the songlist is so dissapointing. I could even be ok with it, if they would have improved the jam section a lot, put loop pedals in it etc. But right now, no way I'm gonna pay anything for it. Very dissapointed
Yeah, I was really confused when I couldn't find the jam section. I was hoping they'd sorted out the 12 bar blues to actually be a 12 bar blues rather than the weird variant they had. But it's not even there (or at least I couldn't find it)

Beta had a regular tab view with 2 rows that could be displayed below, should exist in the release too. You can on top invert the guitar hero style display so that the low E is at the bottom like it is on a tab, that feature is available in RS 2014 too.

I’ve been playing Yousician for a year. I like Yousician’s playlist way more, and for me it’s way more readable. I really regret jumping in and buying the year subscription to Rocksmith. Can’t get used to it. It has a terrible song list.

It's actually rather funny that others think that the RockSmith system is super readable. As a guitarist who initially learned with Guitar Pro when I was young, the Rocksmith tablature is screaming so much for attention that it becomes completely unreadable to me at higher speeds. While I can perfectly follow a guitar pro at double the speeds. Never expected others to find it easier :)
I'm glad that works for you. I'll likely revisit rocksmith+ in April to see if it's any better for people like me at that point, assuming UBI don't just shut it down.

This is a joke when compared to 2014. Completely pathetic for the price they’re asking, when compared to 2014 & it’s custom dlc. Overinflated with bands and songs no one cares for or wanted, all the good classics are missing. The screen is now filled with so much visual noice and distraction. The note colours seem to have less contrast between them, it’s unnecessarily hard to read notes/fret/technique when compared to 2014. The strumming sucks ass, like being able to easily read/discern when you’re supposed to strum. Sure most of us aren’t looking at the strumming pattern 24/7, one sort of intuitively gets the strumming patterns, but still. It’s definitely a joke when compared to 2014, definitely freaking pathetic for the price, especially when 2014 is a thing and has cdlc. 2014 is objectively better in most aspects. They really just changed things no one wanted to be changed, barely addressed any of the issues people had with 2014, and even managed to be worse than it’s predecessor in other parts. The music catalog is laughable. Unnecessary visual distractions and effects with an already unnecessarily hard to see notes/techniques (when compared to 2014). This game is a joke, and the streamers shilling out for it are clearly being “encouraged” by Ubisoft Talk about trying to needlessly reinvent the wheel & completely fucking it up.
Is it worth it ? An emphatic "NO". I had Rocksmith 2014 and it was fantastic, I was trying to learn bass guitar and as a learning tool it was invaluable. I was expecting Rocksmith+ to be an improvement. What a total disappointment. The song selection wouldn't even qualify as a B list, and you'd think with an annual fee you would get access to the original song list from Rocksmith 2014 along with many new songs. Nope. You hardly get access to any of the old library, and the instructional videos are generally fewer and poorer than the original Rocksmith. I was looking forward to Rocksmith+ and so far it has been a major disappointment - I'd give it one star out five. The folks working on Rocksmith+ have a lot of work to do to restore their cred, and I'm sure many who used Rocksmith 2014 would feel the same way.
Can't get the latency correct. I wish they'd of put the efforts of RS+ into RS 2014. 2014 is great. RS+ is horrible. I want a refund but it's like pulling teeth. Do not buy/rent RS+. RS+ song selections is also horrible.

Using the real tone cable I got no lag, but i use direct out from an external sound card so your mileage may vary
I use a midi audio box, and there is no lag whatsoever. I also use a RX 6800xt, so that might play into it.

I had an external soundcard with a jack input which I used and that was fine. If you don't have anything with a jack input you'll need the cable, or if not that then one of those usb to guitar Jack interfaces.

Can you please tell me where the progress bar is at the top and what is disappearning bubbles. Any video showing actual play through has the progress bar not available. How is that a good thing? How is NOT having score attack good? Competition is good and fun
The bubbles means you've nailed that section. The tiny dots are missed notes

Thanks a lot for a proper review. It's really sad that they're slowly destroying 2014's catalogue. Not sure why they didn't just make RSmith 2022. It worked, I'm sure! (Even if they did have a ludicruous amount of DLC worth into the ££££'s

Imagine how much time you would waste searching for music on plus. I tried it in Beta and was so mad I was wasting time instead of practicing in regular RS.
Ubisoft actually just updated their song tracks and they added parts to songs that wasn't there when they released it. And by the way Ubisoft does have a lot of the songs from the other rocksmith games.
I'll have to check the update. They may have some, but none of them seem to be the ones I want.
No session mode to teach you improv, phrasing, keys, modes, etc.... no equivalent to guitarcade to let you practice changing chords, or learn all your scales in any key and any mode and of course the awful tracklist.
Rocksmith 2014 does SO many more things to actually teach you guitar. RS+ just looks prettier. That's it.
Maybe a year from now we will see something better. Till then: I already unsubscribed.

I just loaded up my RS2014 and purchased Holy Wars and 5 mins alone...must be licensing issues as they would not launch....but at least i can still access the tracks i purchased back then and continue having fun with the songs i never got around to :) Subscription based model is not appealing to me.
im sure you've been asked this before but would you recommend rs+ or rs remastered if youre brand new to guitar? im looking to pair it with justin guitar as more of a teacher and then rocksmith to put the learning to the test.
I'd honestly recommend rocksmith 2014 as it is a better and more rounded product. The videos you get with rs+ aren't any better than ones that can be found on RUclips.

Two things made me choose to stick with my copy of Rocksmith remastered. 1. The subscription model. Knowing how licenses work. They will sell this game with Boston and some Metallica but the second they lose those licenses there goes your ability to play em. They will pull them from the menu and now you’re just left with the lame filler crap. If you think it’s scarce NOW!? Just wait.
2. The price of said subscription. $15 a month comes to $120 a year. Every year as long as you wish to play. Sure you can stop playing it but you then when the game gets shutdown in a few years you’ll never be able to play it again. You’ll be paying to play the game but you’ll never actually own it. You’ll be left with nothing but the filler crap by the end. If the game boots up at all.
Does it still have multi-player for co-op play locally?

Honestly I feel like overall it is just a step backward. I find very few songs that I actually enjoy playing, I have no ability to buy or add more, the Guitarcade and multiplayer are both gone and the lessons are really just the same stuff, just rerecorded. Even the interface is more complicated than it needs to be. There is no way I can justify the $15 per month for this in it's current state. Rocksmith 2014 was a masterpiece. I think they failed horribly here and by looking at how few arrangements have been done in the workshop and how even a google search shows almost no news about the game or articles or forums, Ubisoft dropped the ball completely. It's like they are managed by EA.
yeah i figured, I was lucky enough to get beta access, it was kinda disappointing to see the lack of tracks then. i figured ti would have been better by now.
I wish they would have incorporated the note highway customization like they did with the Beta. Not a fan at all of the new one. It's way too translucent.

Thing is, play it on a pc and use custom DLC if you dont its way to expensive to get the songs you want and most of it wont be available.
Its the same with Netflix you pay but they cant get most of the permissions for all movies so watching online for free is still way better

Rocksmith 2014 is good enough as it is. There are a few quirks, but nonetheless I use that to practice scales in band session, even the guitarcade was fun, string skip saloon, castle to chordead. Such a good game itself

Do you think they’ll ever add support for more instruments such as ukulele? I’ve been learning how to play ukulele for the past few months and this game seems really cool, however it sucks that it’s only for bass and guitar as of now.
I’d highly doubt that you’d ever see support for Yuke unfortunately. Rock smith is geared toward guitar and bass at its core
I don't like the subscription model - I'd much prefer if existing DLC could be carried forward and continue to add more music to the library.
The only way a subscription model makes any sense is if they do some deal with e.g. Spotify to have access to all available music and IDK, apply as many charts as possible and allow community charts.
Also, more personally, I was in the beta test and I could not solve sound problems when running it on Linux...
Ubisoft screwed up my rocksmith 2014 and i cant play all the songs i got off customsforge plus the songs on rocksmith plus suck.
Redownload the dll file from Customsforge. That is what fixed mine. Ubisoft went out of their way to deliberately break the game in my opinion. Shady stuff...

I've been real frustrated with the entertainment industry switching to subscriptions and putting out half baked or even incomplete content.

I would love to pay for a subscription, but the songlist is so dissapointing. I could even be ok with it, if they would have improved the jam section a lot, put loop pedals in it etc. But right now, no way I'm gonna pay anything for it. Very dissapointed
Yeah, I was really confused when I couldn't find the jam section. I was hoping they'd sorted out the 12 bar blues to actually be a 12 bar blues rather than the weird variant they had. But it's not even there (or at least I couldn't find it)

I don't believe so. I've not tried because the guitar hero like display is a much more instant way to read IMO.

Beta had a regular tab view with 2 rows that could be displayed below, should exist in the release too.
You can on top invert the guitar hero style display so that the low E is at the bottom like it is on a tab, that feature is available in RS 2014 too.

I’ve been playing Yousician for a year. I like Yousician’s playlist way more, and for me it’s way more readable. I really regret jumping in and buying the year subscription to Rocksmith. Can’t get used to it. It has a terrible song list.

It's actually rather funny that others think that the RockSmith system is super readable. As a guitarist who initially learned with Guitar Pro when I was young, the Rocksmith tablature is screaming so much for attention that it becomes completely unreadable to me at higher speeds. While I can perfectly follow a guitar pro at double the speeds. Never expected others to find it easier :)

I'm glad that works for you. I'll likely revisit rocksmith+ in April to see if it's any better for people like me at that point, assuming UBI don't just shut it down.

The note highway is an absolute downgrade. RS 2014's is way more clear to read; RS 2014 looks a tool to actually learn how to play and RS+ looks a *just* a game

I'm cheezed off, it cost me double the price of the original Rocksmith and for only 12 months, has none of the legacy music and no multi player. It is useless.
This is a joke when compared to 2014. Completely pathetic for the price they’re asking, when compared to 2014 & it’s custom dlc. Overinflated with bands and songs no one cares for or wanted, all the good classics are missing. The screen is now filled with so much visual noice and distraction. The note colours seem to have less contrast between them, it’s unnecessarily hard to read notes/fret/technique when compared to 2014. The strumming sucks ass, like being able to easily read/discern when you’re supposed to strum. Sure most of us aren’t looking at the strumming pattern 24/7, one sort of intuitively gets the strumming patterns, but still.
It’s definitely a joke when compared to 2014, definitely freaking pathetic for the price, especially when 2014 is a thing and has cdlc. 2014 is objectively better in most aspects. They really just changed things no one wanted to be changed, barely addressed any of the issues people had with 2014, and even managed to be worse than it’s predecessor in other parts. The music catalog is laughable. Unnecessary visual distractions and effects with an already unnecessarily hard to see notes/techniques (when compared to 2014).
This game is a joke, and the streamers shilling out for it are clearly being “encouraged” by Ubisoft

Is it worth it ? An emphatic "NO". I had Rocksmith 2014 and it was fantastic, I was trying to learn bass guitar and as a learning tool it was invaluable. I was expecting Rocksmith+ to be an improvement. What a total disappointment. The song selection wouldn't even qualify as a B list, and you'd think with an annual fee you would get access to the original song list from Rocksmith 2014 along with many new songs. Nope. You hardly get access to any of the old library, and the instructional videos are generally fewer and poorer than the original Rocksmith. I was looking forward to Rocksmith+ and so far it has been a major disappointment - I'd give it one star out five. The folks working on Rocksmith+ have a lot of work to do to restore their cred, and I'm sure many who used Rocksmith 2014 would feel the same way.
