    • @LuaanTi
      @LuaanTi 4 года назад +86

Lower difficulties are often surprisingly hard in musical games. But Rocksmith specifically... it's quite hard to get used to the "colors mean different strings". It just doesn't map very well to how people usually note down music, or how people _play_ a guitar. It's not too bad for single notes or things like power chords, but you just don't get a good view of what you're supposed to do, and the fretboard doesn't help much either. I also have trouble keeping up with the position changes - it isn't quite visible enough where you're supposed to play. Fret number would work so much better for orientation.

To be honest i had a very hard time with the game. I tried it when i was in my early learning and got confused by everything. Like the easy lessons would be showing you some techniques, different variations. And then out of fucking nowhere they make you play a song that has all these techniques while adding new strings you didn't train with... one of my biggest issues was changing strings/frets fast but it's like the game expected the techniques to be the hard part... while it's more about using several in a quick succession.
I found the game cool but i'd often be disgusted by what it expected from you while the difficulty felt extremely unbalanced.
Now that I am way more comfortable with my guitar (it's been 6 months si ce i started) i've been planing to play it again but honestly it acted more as a deterrent to me, like the expectations the game had from me just made me feel like there was something wrong with me

then i took my guitar interface to him and recorded his playing and showed him the take with just what he was playing ...

Rocksmith took me from just being able to play song riffs to being able to play complete songs, including solos. But there is one big caveat. Its note detection mechanism as great as it is gets you to play on the back beat and staccato, and you have to grow outside of the game to improve upon that. But riff repeater is a wonderful tool because of the feedback you get from playing, something you just don't get with tabs and a metronome, only your ear will tell you if you get it or not, and sometimes your ear is more forgiving than the game 😉

All you have to do is default the rocksmith cables as the microphone, remove exclusivity from either the game or .ini file and most importantly keep active the sound mixer in the microphone windows tab. The recording will pick up on that and you can have the video and audio togheter. Plus you can record actively or passively whenever you get the feeling that you did a good run cuz for sure activating the recording myself makes me feel a bit anxious. xD

The best way to learn with rocksmith is to go to Learn a song and put the difficulty all the way up so you get all the notes right away and then slow the song down to around 50 or 60% speed depending on your skill. Nobody learns a song at full speed right away using half the notes. And pay attention to the notes and chords you are playing. The goal is to be able to play the songs without looking at the screen so dont use the screen as a crutch. Use the screen as needes and no more. It is very important to do this or you will not learn anything from rocksmith. There is a big difference between learning how to play a song on the guitar and actually learning how to play guitar. It took me months to realize this. Rocksmith can be very helpful and rewarding in this way. Use it as a visual guide not as a game.

Eventually, the "I wanna learn electric guitar" moment arrived, but I was so god damn busy with 2 jobs, I didn't have time to teach her... Not long after, I went to WalMart, in the electronic section (of course, I'm a gamer after all) and saw Rocksmith... I was like "Why didn't I think about it before?". So I bought it, brought it home, showed her how to use it, then 2 days later, she was on my electric guitar, playing almost every song on Medium... I almost teared up.. I was like "Oh my God.... .. They were wrong... Video games CAN teach us great things!"! She eventually learned almost everything at Hard after a while. It really does the trick!.. But when I tried it, I got mad at it for the same reasons as Guitar Hero.. You know why! Easier modes than master skips a lot of pick strokes or notes, so I tended to play them (cuz I knew the frickin' song) and got punished for that.. I never touched it again.. ahahahaha!

    - In "Learn a Song" mode you can't fail
    - You can turn on "Override to Max" somewhere in the setting, with that the "Learn a Song" will display all the notes instead of showing only a few notes (cause some people will find it harder to learn the song without seeing all the notes)

There's a reason why 'Learn a Song' is the 1st option.
Until the user becomes familiar with Rocksmith and its vast array of options, 'Learn a Song' is where they should be spending time.
This option gives you the ability to play any song in the Rocksmith library including add-ons in multiple Speeds and levels of Difficulty or Mastery.
This includes everything from playing the entire song to the 'Riff Repeater' mode that allows you to play any section/s of the song no matter how much of the song you desire and at any speed/difficulty desired from 0-100%.
The game also allows for automatic increases in the speed and mastery of each song as you improve.
Whether setup to automatically or manually increase/decrease speed/difficulty before or even While you play, Rocksmith tracks your progress and actually adapts to each player's skills.
Note: Rocksmith works with ANY guitar including BASS.

I cried laughing at this! A dude who shreds like a god on actual guitar, struggles at this game just as much as me.
Honestly, the biggest issue with it is that you gotta pay attention to the colored blocks instead of playing the shit you wanna play

Guitar hero made that song so hard. Still practiced enough as a kid to get through it never 100% though 😪

I think this game is very player specific hahaha. I quite enjoy it but if you are someone who always has to look at their fretboard all the time it’s gonna be tough. Nik is a great example of that. Dudes absolutely insane but keeps looking at the fretboard. Your tendencies as a player can change a lot of ur experience in this game

Man, I remember when I finally got to play the first Rocksmith game. To this day I still prefer it over the second game as the career mode gamified Rocksmith's learning experience in a satisfying way. But since I have it on console, I can't seem to get rid of the input lag present no matter what I do to the audio/visual calibration, so that was really the one of only two annoyances I had with the game.

I got so tired of tuning my guitar that I would just tune once and pick all the songs in that tuning and go.

If a song has the same tuning relation, I use my Whammy DT to shift the pitch up or down by semitones.

If you plan on doing this more, There is a setting that inverts the notes on the fretboard in the game. Makes the low notes on the bottom and the high notes on the top. Found this really useful if you know how to read actual music as it doesn't feel so backwards.

The one thing i found hard on rocksmith is the sudden lesson on pull offs and hammer ons upping the level suddenly

There's a latency adjustment in the menus that might help a bit. If you're playing on console run an optical audio to fix the note lag

Noticed you were using a JP6. I picked up the JP60 a few months ago and its been amazing. The arm cutout is unlike anything else.
