Very thorough overview of Rocksmith. Your commentary was amazing, and if I was considering purchasing, would consider your words worth their weight in gold. Your song at the end is 👍
you did great, being a guitar teacher, I can confidently say that you've progressed enough to be considered good for 2 months. The bad news is guitar is an instrument you can't learn and be done, it's a way of life and you learn in for ever. But that's me, take care buddy and stay practicing!
You do online lessons? If not whats something you recommend all new guitarists to learn first? I tend to have trouble actually applying “lessons” to playing especially if I’m just watching a video with no actual feedback.
Great video man! It blows my mind that between 2-6 months you could compose your own song. I've played for about 1 year and I'm self taught and you've sold me on getting rocksmith to practice the fundamentals more and have some fun!! Keep up the great work and stay rocking!
THE SOLO WAS EVERYTHING As somebody that'd been kinda half-assedly learning guitar for a year this is very inspiring and motivating. I have Rocksmith and use it occasionally but this video reminded me that if I use it more often I'll get more out of it. Im definitely gonna be picking up the game again tonight to hopefully see the same amount of progress as you did in just 2 months.
I just bought an electric last week, I had an acoustic before so I know one thing or two but like some more advanced 'proper' guitar techniques I don't really know of this video was really inspiring for me, I personally have real difficulty with the 'higher frets' (12+) and with some more fast solos I'm seeing the game throw at me already. I'm just hoping I don't really pick some bad habits because of it because I don't really trust my ability of seeing such nuances like Mighty did
Great video! I love Rocksmith and while I agree it wont't teach you to play guitar fully, it is a really awesome tool to keep you motivated and have some fun. Loves your commentary and seeing your progress. Hope you stick with guitar!
i started playing rocksmith 5 months ago first 2 months i had learned one song fully then realized i was on lead tried rhythm got into that and started doing the spider walk exercise and that made everything click i can now play 15 plus songs at 99 accuracy both rhythm and lead and can now download a song i want and get 80 in a bout two trys im not the best but im trying to get there and am glad i gave rocksmith a try
just for him to teach you the chords, and increase your agility and notion of each fret is already a big step. Because that's the most boring thing at first, and learning by yourself is boring.
I've been playing guitar for a long time and it's always enjoyable seeing someone get bitten by the bug. I can tell you're hooked too, months later still playing, bought a guitar and a bass... yep, you're on the journey now! It's one of the most rewarding things in my life, I hope it'll be the same for you. Keep rocking.
Even a year+ on youve managed to inspire me to try learning guitar again. I definitley feel rocksmith could help and i hope to be as good as you someday
Congrats on getting your own guitar! It seems like Rocksmith gave you some fundamentals that will help you better understand other resources. I hope you keep playing!
Cool stuff. I actually am a guitar teacher and I will say that your progress for a few months playing was pretty solid. I would say however that your progress probably came more from the consistency of practice than Rocksmith itself. You'd be surprised on how many people opt to "learn guitar" but then don't put in the time needed on their end. That being said what I like about Rocksmith is that it makes those intial stages way cooler than I often can when talking about technique and the like. I think guitar teachers in general don't value things like Rocksmith enough for that. I had a student come in once and say "I played Rocksmith for like 4 hours the other day; is that a good use of my time?" On the one hand, sure Rocksmith isn't the most effective way to learn a song or some techniques etc. but who could be mad at a kid working for 4 hours on something.
What would be the perfect system for you? Rocksmith making partnerships with real life instructors so the instructor would organize what the student plays or something like that?
Great video! Great editing, great flow in the video, informative commentary while not wasting time. Really surprised this doesn't have more views to be honest. Keep up the good work!
It was a very thoughtful and honest review of the game. I recently made a practice space, in my home office, and got my guitar out of its coma, at the back of my closet, and fired up this game after about four years of not playing it. I came looking, to RUclips, for inspiration, after having a great session last night, and your vid did not disappoint! Rock on! And wait...what?! Is that you at the end there, I mean your voice and all? GREAT JOB! Gonna follow you on all the places.
I’ve been playing Bass for about 30 years now, and I love Rocksmith. Like you said it’s definitely even better with the custom songs. For someone like me who’s older, and left behind the days of playing in an actual band it’s great since you’re playing along with actual music. This may or may not apply to you so much as to people new to playing since this video is about a year old. Don’t put to much into the difference between a Squire and a higher end Fender. My son who has been playing for several years now has 4 guitars 2 of which are Squires (a Strat and a Tele), and he loves them both almost as much as his older $600 Ibanez Jem and his Les Paul Custom. If you really want to get the most out of a Squire take it to someone who knows what they’re doing and have it professionally “setup”. This can make a huge difference in how it sounds and handles. Maybe even drop in some “used” Made in Mexico Fender pickups (which is what’s in my son’s Squire Tele), and some better tuners, and for a couple hundred bucks you’ve made a huge difference in that Squire for a lot less than buying a “higher end” Fender.
Awesome video dude. This is the best review of rocksmith. Everyone else has played guitar before and they're just testing out the game more than using as a teaching resource. I have a guitar on order and Rocksmith2014 for ps4 coming as well. I got to your level about 10+ years ago and I've been toying with picking it up again. I've not picked up a guitar since mine broke a decade ago. Hopefully I can get back to the level I was and improve fairly quick. Rock on buddy. 🤘🏻 new sub here 😁
This video is amazing dude! I've been toying with the idea of learning using rocksmith for years but keep putting it off due to self doubt, cost & other factors but this video has kinda made me wanna buy a guitar and learn now using rocksmith.
He had fuwa fuwa time. Also this game is how I learned to play guitar. I’ve been playing in a stage for almost 10 years have started several bands and teach lessons. This is probably my favorite game of all time.
I just started playing using Rocksmith 2014 and Justin Guitar. Thank you for a potential look in the future. Blues and blues inspired songs have been good to play at the start.
Such a refreshing vid. Nice to see a normal person with similar expectations and challenges to myself. I got my acoustic guitar as at 12 years old lost interest due to the pain and lack of motivation. Picked up a cheap electric during lockdown. Pick it up for 10min a day before work. Dont want to be a rock god jus mental stimulation.
Not bad for two months in! Great vid and glad you've kept going. With my only knowledge of Rocksmith being this video, it sort of seems this game would be better suited for someone closer to the intermediate level. Like someone who already has basic chords and barre chords down, and is ready to start taking on some lead ideas/techniques. But on the other hand, it's a good thing if it successfully gets a beginner's foot in the door and keeps him/her interested.
Well done video. I've never tried Rocksmith, but I've just ordered it; I'm an intermediate player, so curious what it's like. An interesting take on learning from the perspective of someone who's never played guitar before. Some of the things you say are "skewed", but not "wrong"; they're just the way students make things harder than they actually are. Ultimately, as we all learn, it's the practice that makes you better, even if you don't know what or why you're practicing at first. You definitely progressed far in just 2 months; again, as we all eventually learn, that's all down to interest and effort.
Just got my first guitar. 31 years old. Got a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I cannot wait to start learning with Rocksmith and then moving on from there. Realtone cable comes in tomorrow!
@@mrtechit101 I brought a US Stratocaster and used the money I spent on it as incentive to get my moneys worth. Not only can I play now but they guitar is now worth more than I payed for it.
Hey, Pal. Could you share some info about your in-game expertise? Did you really advance through all of this like the author of the video? How did it eventually work out?
Congratulations man, there are a lot of people who have been playing the guitar for years and are unable to compose an original song. What you have done is not as easy as it seems. Keep playing and let your imagination take you. You have something that many professional musicians would like and that is creativity. New sub from Spain!!!
I literally used this for 4 years and 10 years of playing guitar I still use this but I usually watch a RUclips video while plugged into my rig definitely glad I have it a chance when I was 14
I been playing on and off for a while trying to gather motivation ,but look no further ,great video ,subscribed , and im starting my 60 day challenge tomorrow, thanks again
I started playing electric guitar after a 7 year break from acoustic playing. My first song parabola by tool I learned with the help of an online tutorial and after that I got rocksmith. The thing I recomend using is the display all notes mode and just slow down sections to learn a song. By now I would say Iam an intermediate player mostly self tought so yeah good piece of software. Also a little hint there are a bunch of tricks to improve lag you can read up online and as far as I know is that singlecoil guitars get picked up worse then humbuckers
@@MightyNifty I've been trying to get into it off and on but always kind of falter out after 30 days, so it's good to know that there is some natural plateau that you have to push yourself past. I'm not sure what it is myself, but the next time I try again I'll try to see why I end up losing interest. I'm not sure if you might have some more general thoughts on keeping up with it? I will say, because it's the easiest song in the default lineup and the song I start with every time I pick up the game again, I do know Blitzkrieg Bop pretty well lol
I'd say to try the lessons if there's something not working quite right or feeling awkward, just Google the issue or look up RUclips tutorials. Also, using the riff repeater to slow down songs can be helpful since actually learning a song all the way through is great motivation (and don't go by Rocksmith's difficulty since that's all kinds of messed up, just search for 'easy guitar songs'). Oh, and try out some alternate lead/rhythm arrangements. Hope this is helpful!
@@MightyNifty I'll keep that in mind the next time I give it a shot again. There is something to be said about being able to ask someone questions though, so lessons may be needed in the end. Thanks!
What a great video, thanks for confirming that my decision of buying this game and interface is correct! And thanks for all the details and notes you took through all this process.
I bought both Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 . I really enjoyed both of them but really enjoyed playing the gigs in front of new venues on the first one similar to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The second version took that away for some reason. I still play on the PS3 version and it’s too bad they didn’t upgrade and also put out new games with new songs instead of having to buy them. Still love these games because it helped me start learning. Now I know I need to practice more lessons in the game which is something I avoided in the past. Thanks for this great informative video!!
Rocksmith 2014, it's just you playing LEAD and the easy modes on Score attack, which is practically a guitar hero. With well-spaced and diverse frets, score and game over.
Damn bro your song is bad ass! I’d 100% add it to my daily driver music playlist. I’m very much considering using Rocksmith to learn to play. Honestly for the price it’s kind of a no brainer to at least give it a try.
Amazing progress - I've been using Rocksmith as an aid to teaching my eldest daughter guitar as well as brush up myself (I was never great to start with and haven't played in about 10 years). It's the new years resolution so still early days, inspirational video!
Nice job man. I've been collecting guitars for years, and I'm still not as good as you are now. Lol! Keep moving forward. Even if it is just for yourself. You're officially one of those cool fucking guitar guys. Congratulations.
Good review. Ive gone through phases, played for a couple of years in the early 2000's (wish this was a thing back then) but motivation and other interests took over, sold most of my guitars and amps. Then when this first came out i jumped on it and it was good, i had a lot of the basics from prior playing and i learnt a few songs fully , which was more than i had really done in the past. I then got busy and i did miss my much nicer guitars id sold a few years past so stepped away. Now nearly 10 years has passed (library has grown a lot, which is a bonus) and ive got the bug again, waiting for a cable to arrive as ive long since lost my original one and i cant wait to jump back in, impulse purchased a minty gorgeous Fender AO 50's Tele to make up for my much missed Japanese 52 Tele i sold before Rocksmith was a thing and have regretted ever since. You made great progress and can confidently call yourself a guitarist and you will pick up a lot of stuff so much easier, Rocksmith is a great foundation and when i first played it for a few months i progressed far more than i did years of trying to learn myself playing tabs and such.
I've only played a handful of Rythum based games. Two as being both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I played Crypt of the Necro Dancer. That technically wasn't music based. But you still had to cordnate your moves and abilities to the beat of the background music for percisifnise. The one I played the most is unrelated to those games. But it's Geometry Dash. You pick a level and you start. You play a block that requires you either to tap your Android or mobile device to jump and avoid hazardous walls, spikes, pitfalls, etc. Or if your playing on PC, you just press a button to do all of that. The real neat thing about Geometry dash is you can design your own levels and Download any music you think works for your level. Just don't do it on Android or mobile devices. It's rebust, doesn't have good access and it's harder to get wifi on. I recommend the PC version if you're going to do it. I don't think I'll be revisiting Guitar hero or Rock Band again any time soon. I really can't go back thinking those games are going to be antiquated and ain't going to stand toe to toe with alot of Modern games coming out now. Still they were fun for the time. I might give Rocksmith a chance. But I still wouldn't play it that much. I've actually thought about a series you should cover on your channel. This would be my fav game ever. Mainly the first one. Have you played any of the Dead space games? I think the first one's easily the best out of the series. Dead space 2 was good. But it constantly uncharted. Everything's scripted. Dead space 3, I think you know how most people feel about that one. I enjoy aspects of it. But to say the end product is less than stellar's a bit of an understatement. Two games I'm hyped for is The Callisto Protocol. That's being done by Glen Scofield whose a producer on the OG Dead space. The game's trailer has references to Dead space. The other is the Dead space remake. That's the main reason I think you might want to do the Dead space series retrospective. Have you thought about doing a Dead space series review?
Great video! I was afraid of buying an electric guitar because when I was trying to learn acoustic guitar, I gave up due to the lack of motivation but I think Rocksmith might help quite a bit! I like that you included the parts where you were frustrated and felt like you are not improving, I am expecting all of it and I will be buying my electric guitar in two weeks! Thanks for your video!
Great job dude!! I have this, but I have gotta get back into it. I got discouraged but I had no time discipline with interference with my job and my own business plus gym and powerlifting/bodybuilding competitions. No I have to get back home and load this up today, pull out my guitar and work at it.
Amazing video! I have been playing bass on RockSmith for about a year on and off and really enjoy it! I also liked to look into RockSmith- lol. Love the song at the end too great job!
Great job. I got RS2014 with the intention of going from cowboy chords to doing the face shredding that I like to listen to. I also like the mix of genres they have. The techniques they want you to learn are confusing for me to watch fly by on the screen. The issue I have with the technique arcade is the calibrating. No matter how long I bang on the strings, the game cannot hear my guitar. Yes, I had the knobs all the way up, by testing with my amp. Great video, and glad I am not the only one with issues on the side games and technique signaling.
It's interesting to see the technique of someone who JUST learned with Rocksmith after a couple of months. Your progress after 2 months was super impressive but you can very much see it's the result of someone who'd just been taught *what* notes to play, but not *how* to play them. The muscle memory and "internal songbook" seemed further ahead than what I'd expect from a 2 month guitarist, but the picking dynamics and "flow" seemed a little behind a traditional guitar student. It's interesting to see.
Rocksmith is great at teaching "chops" and you can learn to play existing songs encoded in Rocksmith's format, but it doesn't teach anything about music theory or reading musical notation so you'll have to look elsewhere if you want to be able to write your own music. If you asked whether I regretted buying the original and the Rocksmith 2014 versions, I will always answer "No". I agree with the video author that it's a great START to becoming a full-fledged guitarist.
I find getting a guitar with a lower action helps with the finger issue, first tip, for learning guitar. Thay way you can play for longer, it's easier and also your fingers hurt less
this video made my day. I don't know where to start on how amazing you did. first of all, I knew it would be badass bc you mentioned bowling for soup. then your solo at the end was just amazing. I subscribed and followed on spotify. you mentioned you're an engineer. if you're interested in moving to the bay area (or if u live here already) I'd refer you for a swe role we're hiring for! lmk and keep up the great work!
After a failed attempt at learning with the OG Rocksmith about 10 years ago (I was skeptical about the 60 day promise and it affected my drive to continue), I bought a new guitar and 2014 Remastered and am starting from scratch. I'm surprised at how much I remember, and how much I don't, lol. But most importantly, I'm already on day one having more fun than ever, and I hope it sticks this time.
My son just gifted me a e.guitar for Christmas, almost 18 years after I bought one for him (when I saw he has a musical ear and talent ), and I bought Rocksmith many years ago. Is this one of mine 2024 resolutions, to learn to play a guitar? I think so . . .
I bought a guitar 1 year ago and only learnt the basics and a few riffs. I hope I can change that now when the steam sales drop and actually learn a song.
Really great video!!! I am in the same dilema. I think I will still practicing with rocksmit 2014 in order to improve muy skills, maybe in another 1 year rocksmit+ will improve and it worht it. Thanks a lot!!! Great song by the way!
No theory too in RS2014, but nothing beats an actual teacher as they can see bad habits. I’ve been using RS since it’s originals list as it’s one of the best way I learn along with Guitar Pro as it’s more of a game which makes it’s easier for my brain to process things.
Learning to set up my guitar properly (from youtube tutorials) cured many of the problems I had previously assumed were just my beginners ineptitude. Learn to adjust the string intonation at the bridge and make sure your pickups aren't too high. Also tune the guitar using the mini tuner in the pause screen. The full page tuner at the start of songs is actually quite inaccurate.

you did great, being a guitar teacher, I can confidently say that you've progressed enough to be considered good for 2 months.
Learn easy songs. Learn to play chords of a song in rhythm and sing along.
i always say the best thing rocksmith does is that it gets you playing guitar. it kinda takes the work out of the learning aspects.
outside resources and practicing on my own are definitely things that helped me get to where I am. been playing for almost 9 years now. rock on man 🔥
Hey bro in case you didnt know. You're a good person! It was beyond nice enough of you to share your journey with us!
Be proud brother!
Thanks for the feedback man!
This was the type of response I was expecting to receive by using this game
Great video man! It blows my mind that between 2-6 months you could compose your own song. I've played for about 1 year and I'm self taught and you've sold me on getting rocksmith to practice the fundamentals more and have some fun!! Keep up the great work and stay rocking!
THE SOLO WAS EVERYTHING
As somebody that'd been kinda half-assedly learning guitar for a year this is very inspiring and motivating. I have Rocksmith and use it occasionally but this video reminded me that if I use it more often I'll get more out of it. Im definitely gonna be picking up the game again tonight to hopefully see the same amount of progress as you did in just 2 months.
I just bought an electric last week, I had an acoustic before so I know one thing or two but like some more advanced 'proper' guitar techniques I don't really know of
this video was really inspiring for me, I personally have real difficulty with the 'higher frets' (12+) and with some more fast solos I'm seeing the game throw at me already. I'm just hoping I don't really pick some bad habits because of it because I don't really trust my ability of seeing such nuances like Mighty did
2 years late, but wow this video brought a smile to my face. That solo was nuts for less than a year of playing! Really inspires me to try this out.
Keep going bro! Guitar is a lifelong pursuit and you’re off to a great start.
Behold, the birth of a guitarist. Puts a tear in my eye.
It's surprising how good this game is at teaching people
Great video! Great editing, great flow in the video, informative commentary while not wasting time. Really surprised this doesn't have more views to be honest. Keep up the good work!
Got himself a six string, bought it at the five and dime.
He played it till his fingers bled, was the summer of 21
It was a very thoughtful and honest review of the game.
I've been toying with the idea of learning using rocksmith for years but keep putting it off due to self doubt, cost & other factors but this video has kinda made me wanna buy a guitar and learn now using rocksmith.
go for it men, the game costs a few buck and you can find a nice squier for around 150 buck or less used
For two months on Rocksmith, you playing solo after is a hell yeah 🤘
He had fuwa fuwa time. Also this game is how I learned to play guitar. I’ve been playing in a stage for almost 10 years have started several bands and teach lessons. This is probably my favorite game of all time.
This was a really well-made and interesting video!
P.S. nice Dearly Beloved
edit: i now have a new favorite song
Thanks so much! 😁
Very good, informative video. Congrats on your progress. Btw, the ending was cool AF! 😂
I just started playing using Rocksmith 2014 and Justin Guitar. Thank you for a potential look in the future. Blues and blues inspired songs have been good to play at the start.
this video made my day, great effort man, be proud of this progress, hope you continue to enjoy the guitar for years to come.
The game captures what guitar playing is like. 👌🏽 you don’t get told everything, just figure it out. Thats the fun part
This popped back up on my videos. I love that nice enough song. For real.
Just got my first guitar. 31 years old. Got a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I cannot wait to start learning with Rocksmith and then moving on from there. Realtone cable comes in tomorrow!
Bro really got a $1500 guitar as a starter and a les Paul none the less🗿
@@antibritish_anarchsim1547 as someone who came from playing bass, I appreciate a good guitar over a cheap starter.
@@mrtechit101 I brought a US Stratocaster and used the money I spent on it as incentive to get my moneys worth. Not only can I play now but they guitar is now worth more than I payed for it.
Love your song at the end. Just started playing rocksmith, hope I can get as good as you. cheers!
Hey, Pal. Could you share some info about your in-game expertise?
Did you really advance through all of this like the author of the video?
How did it eventually work out?
That was awesome!!!! Best Video I've seen i a while. Keep on keeping on, you rock!
Congratulations man, there are a lot of people who have been playing the guitar for years and are unable to compose an original song. What you have done is not as easy as it seems. Keep playing and let your imagination take you. You have something that many professional musicians would like and that is creativity. New sub from Spain!!!
Это лучшее мотивационное видео что я видел! Спасибо, парень! Пошел учиться..
I literally used this for 4 years and 10 years of playing guitar I still use this but I usually watch a RUclips video while plugged into my rig definitely glad I have it a chance when I was 14
Keep it up bud, you have a great future
I been playing on and off for a while trying to gather motivation ,but look no further ,great video ,subscribed , and im starting my 60 day challenge tomorrow, thanks again
Comment for the algorithm god, you deserve way more views. Great video
Nice job on the song!
Thanks for sharing your journey through the game!
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks!
Happy to help and best of luck!
Dude that song at the end was sick! Makes me want to dive into rocksmith myself!
That was great... Did you learn theory no, but you did get a new hobby and you got good at it.
How'd it go?
This was the most well spent money i ever put in a game. Love Rocksmith
Nice job man. I've been collecting guitars for years, and I'm still not as good as you are now. Lol! Keep moving forward. Even if it is just for yourself. You're officially one of those cool fucking guitar guys. Congratulations.
Holy shit that song at the end was amazing. Great job man!
This was very intressting and fun too watch.
You meantion every problem of rocksmith, like notes not registering notes.
Just added your song to my spotify, real banger!
Great job dude!! I have this, but I have gotta get back into it. I got discouraged but I had no time discipline with interference with my job and my own business plus gym and powerlifting/bodybuilding competitions. No I have to get back home and load this up today, pull out my guitar and work at it.
Great review! Lots of great insights and it definitely convinced me to get a copy of the game
Amazing video! I have been playing bass on RockSmith for about a year on and off and really enjoy it! I also liked to look into RockSmith- lol. Love the song at the end too great job!
Dude, bloody brilliant!!!!
Wow man that was a sick song! I hope you keep on practicing
Great video! Love the song at the end (:
It's interesting to see.
you are realy nice to share yourr progress, thanks
Thank you for motivating me more im barely starting. Love your song that was incredible 🤯❤🔥
Just started last week, we'll see how it goes... Still full of enthusiasm but fingers are almost done for
Rocksmith is great at teaching "chops" and you can learn to play existing songs encoded in Rocksmith's format, but it doesn't teach anything about music theory or reading musical notation so you'll have to look elsewhere if you want to be able to write your own music.
Awesome video. Your song is amazing also
this video made my day.
I think so . . .
Love it. Good job!!
nice pop-punk song at the end!
gonna have to dust off my copy and start practicing again!
Hey man! Pretty awesome video and effort! Always wanted to try rocksmith to learn, maybe I'll give it a try. Keep up the good work. Hugs from brazil!
I bought a guitar 1 year ago and only learnt the basics and a few riffs. I hope I can change that now when the steam sales drop and actually learn a song.
Love this game. It is a bunch of fun but also doesnt do a good job of teaching how to feel your playing….but it will give you more than just basics
Thank you man for sharing this stuff
Duuuude this is so inspiring!!
Great video man!
Great work man
Learning to set up my guitar properly (from youtube tutorials) cured many of the problems I had previously assumed were just my beginners ineptitude. Learn to adjust the string intonation at the bridge and make sure your pickups aren't too high. Also tune the guitar using the mini tuner in the pause screen. The full page tuner at the start of songs is actually quite inaccurate.
Picked up a bass. Never played before. Wish me luck!
