@@supa_powa7490hey man, just to answer your question as someone who is 31 and a complete noob who started using a combination of Rocksmith 2014 and Yousician: yes it's possible. I don't play clean yet after 6 weeks, but I am able to play about 5 songs from memory, and learning songs on these platforms is fun and easy. My advice: make sure to have practice time where you do NOT use Rocksmith or Yousician, etc and make a conscious effort to actually learn music and the songs outside of the platforms. There's a dilemma that seems to happen with most new players on these platforms where you can "know how to play a song" on the platform, but then without it, you can really remember anything. So be mindful of that. I also highly recommend looking into Yousician as well, it teaches a lot of valuable stuff that Rocksmith overlooks, like ear tuning through note finding games, music theory, how to read sheet music, and in my opinion has a more thoughtful learning path laid out for beginner guitar players. Rocksmith of course has an impressive library of songs, and the 2014 version of the game as guitarcade which is honestly one of the coolest things offered anywhere, because it makes fun arcade style games out of training technique to you. So I use both and have had great results. Good luck to you.

Im a avid Rocksmith console player and was among the players who disliked the sudden jump to subscription based after covid, byt your video helped open my eyes so maybe I'll give it a shot. I really love rocksmith
thats one thing i absolutely loved about rocksmith 2014, the song upping and lowering difficulty depending on how im doing on certain sections. helps ALOT.
Use to practice guitar when I was younger. Lost interest when I left school and started working. Rocksmith 2014 really reignited my love for guitar. Still nowhere to being good but its been fun playing along with songs on it.
I actually got really good at guitar thanks to rocksmith 2014 for the ps3, I’d play for hours non stop just creating my own tones and practicing domination by pantera, eventually I discovered it on the pc and downloaded way more songs and tones to even count, I owe a lot to that damn game.. Always gotta keep the metal faith alive 🤘🏻🎃🤘🏻
I played Rocksmith 2014 and loved it. It got me passionate about guitar again. With that said, nothing helped me get better at guitar nearly as much as learning proper technique and learning how to properly practice.
Bernth, I challenge you to write a song using three things: 1. Having the drums be made out of shattering glass 2. Play most of the song with an acoustic guitar filled with ice And 3. Do the solo with a toy guitar.😁😁 Hope you can do it. Thanks, Bernth! Your music and videos are always awesome!
Rocksmith 2014 was instrumental (pun intended) to get me to learn and practice guitar in my first year and a half. It's important to eventually branch out and not remain stuck to it, but if you're just looking to get started, it's a great tool to do so. Unfortunately they removed it from Steam and went the subscription route with Plus which I don't think comes as a surprise to anyone, most players didn't like.
It’s actually a very useful program, I’ve been playing for 10 years and I’ve watched videos of people playing and it’s made me a better player for sure
I know a lot of people like rocksmith 2014, probably due to the fact that it was a one time purchase, so people instantly write rocksmith+ off due to the subscription model. I prefer rocksmith+ however, the lessons are so much better and i really like the layout! Plus you also get piano which is huge!
I don’t know about that. I only check the catalog out once every few months to see if there is anything I am interested in. There’s a few. But none in my top 10-20 and certainly not enough for me to pay out a subscription. As long as this has now been out, I doubt it’s ever going to happen.
I played the first version of this game and it is a very good tool especially for beginners and intermediate I like the mini games where you play duck hunt but at the same time it's prepping you to learn whatever song it is that you pick.
I was traditionally a bass player with basic guitar knowledge , x-pro cruise ship some touring with a major label band , seasoned with 35 years of playing. During Covid my gf and I started playing rocksmith 2player 2014 edition religiously, she on bass and I switched to guitar 5 years later I can rip a guitar and she can hack a pretty hood bass line.
Rocksmith plus is the cashcow version of Rocksmith2014. Rocksmith 2014 is great and Ubisoft wanted to make it a subscription instead of something you own. 140usd a year is way too much money.
Thats why I haven't bought the plus... It is a lot's of money yearly and if I could buy for myself for a singular transaction I would consider that, but for a few years I wouldn't pay several hundred bucks for a "game"
last Rocksmith i've played was the 2014 version, but the cable suddenly stopped working and a new one was too expensive. This new version seems cool, and the auto pitch shifter it's just amazing for guitars with floyd rose.
It's very nice that they have the "tab" view ! Back in my days I didn't see this option or maybe it didn't exist, getting used to the view was the hardest part of the game actually... They also had "arcade" games that were very fun for me, like hitting the right string to kill enemies... trying to get high scores was fun haha
I’m a 37 year old bassist that’s been playing for years and am using Rocksmith to learn guitar. Ps: I didn’t buy a beginner guitar but went of a €900 Gretch white and gold electromatic hollow body. I loved it the moment I saw it ❤😅
I learned to play bass using only Rocksmith 2014 on 2021, now on December 2023 I bought my first electric guitar (a Yamaha HSS Super Strat) and it’s pretty useful tbh!
Inverting the note highway makes it a lot better for people use to tab. The note highway tends to have more beginner notes like what fingers to use and technique stuff.
I had no idea you can change the lanes to tabs 🤯 I think I'll try Rocksmith out again this weekend. (I hope Ubisoft fixed the issue where I have to log out and back in everytime I start the game for my subscription to register)

I have the first Rocksmith on my ps3 and Rocksmith 2014 on PC and i like them very much! I learnt a lot of stuff to play on my bass. The minigames are good to practice, sometimes i play those only and a couple of weeks later i just put on a song what i find difficult and slay them. :D I would love the settings of the RS+ (specially that auto pitch shifting mode) but i don't want to pay monthly for something what i won't use from day to day.
I do think Rocksmith+ is a fun way to learn how to play an instrument, might try it for a month or so for bass. You still need the discipline, but if you like playing videogames this might be the way to spice up your training :)
it's a definite improvement over the original rocksmith, or rocksmith 2014 (i had both). they were fun, but playing through the console had latency issues, and if you had hot pickups, it wouldn't work. The practice games like pitch baseball were where the real fun was.
I'm envious too! I had to print out tab sheets too, IF I could even find them as a lot of the music I was in to there just weren't tab's so I ended up having to keep rewinding tapes or CDs and learning to play by ear. When I was 13 or 14 I ended up writing out tabs of my own for Iced Earth (I was obsessed with them around that time) and making my own website after learning a little bit of HTML. This was around....maybe 1998 or 99 maybe? I played an old version of Rocksmith and I couldn't do it with all the moving crap on screen, but with the newer tab feature I think I just might try it again..
I'm a beginner using rocksmith+ to learn how to play guitar. What makes it a lot harder for me is the fact that I cant maneuver my fretboard without looking at it. So I always have to learn segments of what I want to play or practice so I can focus more on what I'm doing rather than blinding trying to hit the right notes starring at my screen. Been having a lot of fun with it!
Even traditional tabs are like this, the start of your journey is always like this. Just take your time and later on you will slowly become more comfortable with learning on the fly until you can sight read tabs.
Absolutely you can learn guitar from Rocksmith! I have about 2k hours in it and can now play most songs I come across! Still haven't moved to Rocksmith+ because the playlist was horrible last I checked.
Hey @bernthguitar you can get up to 125% speed using the Riff Repeater. I use it regularly to push myself.

I think Rocksmith is a good compliment to having regular guitar lessons. If anything, it can spark interest. You play REAL guitar after all, not Guitar Hero. I've been playing Rocksmith 2014 on PC to keep my guitar skills fresh. Plus, I get to hear lots of banger songs. Plus, I've tried many unfamiliar tunings. The arcade-style games are great exercises.
Rocksmith is awesome. It's what got me learning guitar over 10 years ago. I haven't played it in a very very very long time as I just jam, learn tabs, etc now days. But Rocksmith was my stepping stone BUT!!!! The game that should of blown up was Bandfuse.... It was like Rocksmith but it taught you actual tabs..... Crap..... As I'm writing this I see Rocksmith added the tab function... Well Bandfuse did it first! Plus they had Black Label Society in the game 🤘🏻
I fucking loved rocksmith, I was actually in the middle of learning the bass from my father in law and he passed away so I never finished learning to play but I can play bat country almost perfectly, also spirit of radio
I've tried using Rocksmith 2014 since R+ wasn't available in my country in 2021. Unfortunately, it requires additional steps to work with audio interfaces like the Scarlett Solo or Yamaha THR II (with ASIO). I wasn't expecting that anyone would implement a guitar effects browser (as a software engineer, I can assume that's a significant pain to do). So, R+ seems quite interesting for practicing, even with up to 30 ms latency.
What additional steps? Getting RS2014 to run with pretty much any ASIO interface is as simple as 'installing' rs_asio. The 'tone' studio is actually more robust in RS2014 than in RS+ if you want to dial in a specific tone/effect, too...
@@zwerko Before I bought the Scarlett Solo, I had to adjust the settings file because the guitar had low gain, or I had no sound from the game on Windows. On Mac, it was simpler-I just needed to create a multi-output audio device with the same name as the Rocksmith Cable but it doesn’t work with mods.
I had the original Rocksmith game on PS4... I loved it... I used to advise people on bass players pages to get it... Lot of good things on these games n it lets u play thru ur actual gear instead of a fake guitar or bass... Definitely a cool tool I wish I had when I started playing years ago...
I have always been curious about this game ever since it was announced . I honestly may just give this a try just for shits and giggles . I love video games and guitar so why not enjoy both at once while learning some random songs.
I got RS1 the day it came out. It's got a lot of features that should have been included in RS2014, RS2014RM, and RS+, like the career mode, venue unlocking, and the responsive audience. Sure, it was taking cues from Guitar Hero, but it was a better game. Ubi decided to be all "Hey, this is a superior learning tool" for some strange reason.
It looks like they really have been working on R+, i tried it about a year ago for bass and it was a Lag cluster with more foren songs nobody outside small local pubs around the world knew
That learning thing is what I need, I'm bored doing the spider by myself. That tab mode is awesome and what I missed in Rocksmith 2014 (sorry if it is there, I never thought I can change the 3D view to a much more reasonable one).
One important tip I have for people using Rocksmith as a way to learn: Don't ONLY use Rocksmith to learn/play guitar. Remember to play guitar *outside* the context of the game. Otherwise, you'll be relying too much on your eyes to play the guitar (looking at the screen for notes), and not your ears and brain (listening for notes, focusing on rhythm). I liked using Rocksmith 2014 to play quite a bit, but noticed myself not really remembering the songs, or focusing on the sounds I was making. I was basically treating it like Guitar Hero. Though fun, I don't think it helped me improve much, only introduced me to new songs I might not have sought to learn.
I stopped using RS for that reason - I couldn't remember anything. But it turns out, I can't remember anything after a year of playing outside of RS. I guess my brain just isn't wired that way, but I really respond to the gamification. So back to RS I go!
I am 100% sure Rocksmith would improve your playing, because you still use your fingers and hands, so the technical skills and muscle memory will for sure improve because you simply put in hours playing the guitar.
I play using Rocksmith but I'll look away or cover my eyes with a bandana when I'm ready to practice memorization of a song. That way i can see how i did on a section
luckily (at least the 2014 remastered ver) the game will notice you are able to play songs well and the notes will start to actually fade out if you played the section/certain number of notes right! seems like they realized that could happen early on, obviously you cant have your difficulty set tyo a specific number that way but if you dont and you just are playing the songs over and over it should be doing that.
@@Climbatron You just have to detach yourself. And remember master mode in Rocksmith removes the notes. So as you master the song ( truly master ) it starts fading notes.
Waterworks and When it Rains it Pours ;) I also spent too much time in RS 2014. I never tried multiplayer mode. I don't know if that is possible in Rocksmith+ ?
As a beginner it’s hard to actually learn from rather a great tool to practice to and find it easier to get lost for hours in practicing even if it’s less productive lessons.
I'm 49 years old and have wanted to learn to play guitar, I think this just might help me. I've never seen a video on this "Game" if you can call it that at this point, that shows the learning side of it. thanks for the info.

Im a avid Rocksmith console player and was among the players who disliked the sudden jump to subscription based after covid, byt your video helped open my eyes so maybe I'll give it a shot. I really love rocksmith
I may have to check this out ngl. Thanks for the review!
thats one thing i absolutely loved about rocksmith 2014, the song upping and lowering difficulty depending on how im doing on certain sections. helps ALOT.
I love rock smith. Been playing for years and still enjoy it to this day.
I like how the more notes you hit correctly it takes the difficulty up until youre playing all notes
Bernth, I challenge you to write a song using three things:
1. Having the drums be made out of shattering glass
2. Play most of the song with an acoustic guitar filled with ice
And 3. Do the solo with a toy guitar.😁😁
Hope you can do it.
Had no idea this existed...I've been playing for a few years and this would make warmup excercises a lot more fun and likely last longer.
It’s actually a very useful program, I’ve been playing for 10 years and I’ve watched videos of people playing and it’s made me a better player for sure
I never realized how fucking sick Bernth's tattoos are!
I know a lot of people like rocksmith 2014, probably due to the fact that it was a one time purchase, so people instantly write rocksmith+ off due to the subscription model. I prefer rocksmith+ however, the lessons are so much better and i really like the layout! Plus you also get piano which is huge!
This game is the only reason I keep my PS3 around, I still have the disc and a bunch of DLC. Really fun to play/ learn songs with
I don't care how useful a tool this is, I am NOT paying 20 bucks a month for a replacement to Rocksmith 2014.
Definitely not with the current song selection.
Being a Ubisoft product is a dealbreaker.
@@GliderRider-GL1 the song selection is getting worse every week
I don’t know about that. I only check the catalog out once every few months to see if there is anything I am interested in. There’s a few. But none in my top 10-20 and certainly not enough for me to pay out a subscription. As long as this has now been out, I doubt it’s ever going to happen.
You should put out another video of you playing your songs now that they've added some in the app!
We started on rocksmith and progressed past it. It’s a great tool!
Rocksmith plus is the cashcow version of Rocksmith2014. Rocksmith 2014 is great and Ubisoft wanted to make it a subscription instead of something you own. 140usd a year is way too much money.
Yeah. It's stupid they're even going with that route
Thats why I haven't bought the plus... It is a lot's of money yearly and if I could buy for myself for a singular transaction I would consider that, but for a few years I wouldn't pay several hundred bucks for a "game"
Ubisoft even removed the game from shops to be sure noone will be able to buy a new copy...
I went for the year only because it was 50% off. No way at the regular price.

I only have rocksmith 2014. But man it’s a lot of fun
He already has 3 of his songs in Rocksmith!!
last Rocksmith i've played was the 2014 version, but the cable suddenly stopped working and a new one was too expensive. This new version seems cool, and the auto pitch shifter it's just amazing for guitars with floyd rose.
Rocksmith 2014 has helped me a lot with learning bass!
This is sick. Thanks for the heads up on thism. Curious to see what they got in there
It's very nice that they have the "tab" view !
Hey BERNTH, I just wanted to say that the tattoo on your right bicep is absolutely amazing! Who could have the skill to do that?
I had no idea you can change the lanes to tabs 🤯
I think I'll try Rocksmith out again this weekend.
I would love the settings of the RS+ (specially that auto pitch shifting mode) but i don't want to pay monthly for something what i won't use from day to day.
I do think Rocksmith+ is a fun way to learn how to play an instrument, might try it for a month or so for bass.
You still need the discipline, but if you like playing videogames this might be the way to spice up your training :)
Maybe I'll try this for myself, thanks for vid man🤘
YES PUT YOUR SONGS ON PLEASE
it's a definite improvement over the original rocksmith, or rocksmith 2014 (i had both). they were fun, but playing through the console had latency issues, and if you had hot pickups, it wouldn't work.
Oh, looks like rs+ has evolved in the past 2 years. I think I'll renew my subscription :)
Yes I would personally love to learn some of your songs and learn some of your techniques
Yes! Get your songs in there.
Very cool reviewed, thänks 🤘
Yes using only rocksmith 2014 or + to learn guitar. It just makes more fun this way to practice an instrument. Still hope rocksmith+ gets more Songs.
The learning mode on Rocksmith+ reminds me of Bernth's warm up exercises 😅
Rocksmith is awesome. It's what got me learning guitar over 10 years ago. I haven't played it in a very very very long time as I just jam, learn tabs, etc now days. But Rocksmith was my stepping stone BUT!!!! The game that should of blown up was Bandfuse.... It was like Rocksmith but it taught you actual tabs..... Crap..... As I'm writing this I see Rocksmith added the tab function... Well Bandfuse did it first! Plus they had Black Label Society in the game 🤘🏻
I learned to play guitar from rocksmith and it worked and I’ve been playing for 10 years now
I want a flamenco version for this!!!!
um .... OBVIOUSLY we want YOUR songs in there!! Geez man, why do you even ask lol
Rocksmith 2014 taught me a lot about guitar
This is such a good review of a product, people who do this full time don’t even go this in depth most of the time. Really cool!!
When you think about it, a guitar is just a controller for your amp.
What is an acoustic guitar a controller for?
@@nickrouse8426 An acoustic guitar is a controller for the air itself, no amp needed to make some noise!
@@frikandel3218 lmao I wondered if you would say that. Touchè
The acoustic guitar is like a DS
I'm not sure why, but this makes me think back to when I started playing Viola a couple years ago
I want that game! It seems so helpful and fun
I fucking loved rocksmith, I was actually in the middle of learning the bass from my father in law and he passed away so I never finished learning to play but I can play bat country almost perfectly, also spirit of radio
Dude, if they put your songs in rocksmith, I’d buy it.
Coming this Friday
I love it when I see the guitar I own in other people's videos
They were really smart to come up with this game, man. I USED to have it, until my mom died and I had to sell all of my stuff to move....
@@zwerko Most of the time, I played without sound feedback from the game and passed the guitar through to the Yamaha THRII.
@@br0k3nnerdI can help you out to set up RS ASIO if you want.
You can just buy the Rocksmith cable. You don't need a Scarlett or anything
I had the original Rocksmith game on PS4... I loved it... I used to advise people on bass players pages to get it... Lot of good things on these games n it lets u play thru ur actual gear instead of a fake guitar or bass... Definitely a cool tool I wish I had when I started playing years ago...
Glad to see more metal in there, the technology seemed good it was just the lackluster content which was a little too much pop and very little rock
And it's way more sick now that it has your songs on there
Nice video Bernth. Always wanted to try out Rocksmith. Didn't know about the + version. Was this the Free version or did you buy it?
I have always been curious about this game ever since it was announced . I honestly may just give this a try just for shits and giggles . I love video games and guitar so why not enjoy both at once while learning some random songs.
I got RS1 the day it came out. It's got a lot of features that should have been included in RS2014, RS2014RM, and RS+, like the career mode, venue unlocking, and the responsive audience. Sure, it was taking cues from Guitar Hero, but it was a better game. Ubi decided to be all "Hey, this is a superior learning tool" for some strange reason.
Fun video! I could have watched this longer.
It looks like they really have been working on R+, i tried it about a year ago for bass and it was a Lag cluster with more foren songs nobody outside small local pubs around the world knew
I thing this is revolutionary, old notation has never felt right to me for modern instruments. This feels.... natural.
I started guitar with Rocksmith 2014
As a beginner it’s hard to actually learn from rather a great tool to practice to and find it easier to get lost for hours in practicing even if it’s less productive lessons.
Devoured Rocksmith 2014 on pc 11 years ago!!! 😁
I'm 49 years old and have wanted to learn to play guitar, I think this just might help me. I've never seen a video on this "Game" if you can call it that at this point, that shows the learning side of it. thanks for the info.
I love the old 2014 version but pitch shifting would be so much nicer than retuning the guitar multiple times during the continuous play mode.
