Turning 67 this year. Lots of changes. The texture of my hair has changed a lot. I had straight hair my whole life, and didn’t gray until my mid fifties. My hair is more course and has become wavy.
My eyes seem more hooded and smaller. My nails have ridges. I’m guessing it could be a vitamin deficiency of some kind.
I have some hearing loss in my right ear. A back injury from decades ago has come back to haunt me and my knee joints hurt. Thus, I walk slower now, and stairs are sometimes a problem.
Being less mobile, I’ve put on weight, and it’s very hard to lose it. It is more in my midsection, but is everywhere. Just to lose a few lbs, I practically have to starve myself.
The hair on my arms and legs seems less, as well as my eyebrows have thinned. I do get chin hairs I have to pluck regularly.
It takes days to clean my house because I don’t have the stamina to do it all in one day. So I am constantly cleaning something.
As a younger person, I was very outgoing and active. But now I prefer to be by myself and tend not to socialize as much.
I plan any activities to be done during the day, because night driving bothers my eyes.
I get less sleep than before, but at times I need to nap.
    So many, many changes.

Everything starts to go downhill. You just have to keep a sense of humor. I stopped wearing makeup and getting my hair done when I retired at 60 years of age. I'm 67 now. My hair is gray, I've lost muscle mass, my lips are thinner, my eyes aren't as good, my hearing is worse, my skin has gotten crepey, I have wrinkles on my knees, some facial hair (this is the one I hate the most). I could go on and on. We are old and getting older. Keep laughing. There is nothing you can do about aging. Oh yeah, you can spend a fortune to stay looking younger, but you really can't stop aging. Laugh about it and keep moving forward. That is really all you can do. Oh and get used to your real self in the mirror. That's why I stopped wearing makeup. When I took it off at night a stranger was looking back at me in the mirror. And I never wore a lot of makeup! I knew then that I had to get in tune with my aging self. And it helps. No more stranger in the mirror. That's me. I will sometimes put a little lip tint on if I go out. That's it. Don't chase youth, you'll just wear yourself out.

Here is something I would like to share. I am 76 years old. When I was about 71 or 72 years old, I developed a condition called giant cell arteritious. The artery providing the blood supply to my left eye became blocked. I started losing my peripheral vision and within 2 days I lost sight in my left eye. My optician referred me immediately to an optimologist who put me on Coumadin immediately. A VERY LARGE dosage. I was on that medication for over 1 year, gradually reducing the dosage so that my other eye was not affected. When I researched the condition, I found that it most commonly happens to females in their 70’s!
Keep this in the back of your mind as you age. It’s not a rare condition, but I had never heard of it before. I have adapted quite well, but I would rather have my vision. Knowledge is power, so if you start having a vision problem, act immediately. That would be my advice.

I'll turn 69 in May. Have never ever been a good sleeper. Menopause at around 52. It was not good. Range of emotions, hot flashes, depression. Then, something i had never heard about, vaginal atrophy and thinning of the vaginal tissue. For me, i know I will always be bothered with it. It's very uncomfortable. I am weaker, breasts got bigger, belly too. My hair is still thick and beautiful salt & pepper gray. I stopped wearing makeup years ago. I have very little underarm and leg hair now. I have to watch closely for dark stray facial hairs pop out overnight. I have fended off wrinkles well up unti the last couple of years. I hate my turkey neck. I cant multitask anymore. Eyesight is bad also have really bad dry eye syndrome. I'm fearful of driving in unfamiliar areas. I hate traveling now! I love being in the quiet of my home. Most important, I'm comfortable in my own body and i don't try to hide my flaws. I pray for more wisdom as i move through the rest of my life.

I was 64 yesterday, and completely agree with the feeling of invisibility!
My job is very corporate so I have had to dress a certain way, for 40+ years, however now since Covid I work mostly from home, occasionally making an appearance, here or there! Saving the real ME style for days off and holidays.
My hair, having never been very thick, seemed thinner. I have a lot of it, but it’s quite fine in texture, so I did something really drastic……I asked my hairdresser to give me a Mohawk! A year later, I’m still sporting my Mohawk! I love it! The shaved sides make my face look less round and it has accentuated my cheekbones.
Luckily, I have always been blessed with good skin, and so far, it’s holding up pretty well!
Most of my corporate stuff has gone to charity and I’m putting a lot of thought into my very “alternative “ wardrobe! Which is great fun.
There are some things I would never wear anymore, but as an Elder Goth, there is plenty to enjoy!
Needless to say, I’m no longer invisible! 🤪😂😂 every time I go out now I always and I really mean this, always get a compliment or two from random strangers. Many who say, I wish I had the guts to do that!
No doubt I will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but not having to conform has improved my mental health sooooooo much! It’s extraordinary!
My view, do what you want, but try and do it with style and a bit of class.
      Peace❤

I get tired a lot quicker and tasks I thought nothing of doing have become onerous and in some cases impossible to do. I have arthritis in my fingers which has deformed them and is very painful. My skin was always fabulous but all of a sudden it looks crap (lifeless, colourless, saggy, crepey) in spite of good attentive skincare. I struggle to stay asleep at night and only get 5 hours at most and even that's broken as I have to get up to use the bathroom at least twice. I've never been a particularlyflexible person but I've stiffened up horribly. I sturggle hugely with my weight and sto stay slim I hardly eat anything. My once big beautiful bright eyes are now hooded and tired looking and I have cataracts and horribly dry eyes which depress me hugely.. I can't think of one positive aspect of being over 60 other than my hair is still thick ~ however its now a horrible grey colour which doesnt suit me but allergies prohibit dyeing it.. Your comment makes me so sad. Please look to find your joy and value in this world. We are all aging, every one of us. What can you do to feel better, and be stronger and more flexible? I’m 70 and take strength training and yoga classes and walk everyday to stay strong and flexible. Yes, I’m aging and have achy joints, belly fat and wrinkles, and had breast cancer last year, but I’m living life. My 94 year old mother is still enjoying what’s available to her at her age with limited vision and mobility. She’s a source of emotional support and wisdom for me, which I am for other younger people. Can you be that for someone with your life experience? I bet you have a lot to offer. We women have been historically valued for beauty and youth (our ability to produce healthy babies, really) and men for their strength and productivity. Thankfully, that’s changing and women have a stronger voice but we still (me included) get demoralized when physical attractiveness declines. We need to get over that and honor and express our deeper value - our intelligence, perspective and wisdom from life experience, our appreciation for the struggles and accomplishments of others, our own talents and gifts. I have learned to be much more openly loving and generous to people in my life be they family, friends or neighbors. It is what I can contribute.

I am 77 and , in the 70s there are more functional changes to body . Surprisingly I never got itch ears but everyone ages at different rates in different body parts .
Whatever the problem there are usually ways to compensate for the new change. I have fallen down a lot . Broke both wrists at different times . I now don’t walk on snow , Never Ever rush , walk slower , wear good shoes, be extra careful in the dark or unfamiliar areas. The hearing isn’t as good , even if you don’t need a hearing aide you think folks are mumbling. You know to face people when talking and don’t have other noise around during conversations. Dry eyes can be a thing , but there are numerous remedies. Body parts hurt occasionally. You are aware of feet and knees . The key is to keep forging ahead. When I talk to 90year old they always make the effort to get out and about. Use it or lose it.

That comparison to how you felt becoming a teenager is good. I’m 65 and you’ve described my experiences almost exactly and opened my eyes to one or two other things. I’m looking at it like a new adventure. It was so interesting going to the doctor for my physical and having her repeatedly say, “now that you’re 65…,” in describing shots, tests, etc. I should have. It opened my eyes to what’s happening to me.

I’m 70 and in good health, although, had a little bought of breast cancer last year. Now on a hormone blocker, oh boy, and feel my aging is speeding up a bit with dryer skin, more wrinkling, thinning hair and increasing belly fat. My hands really aged over the last 10 years. They used to be a little plump with no wrinkles. Now all the plumpness is gone and they are veiny and crepey :(. But, they function. Sleep is poor and have tried so many remedies including prescription sleep aids. (You are so fortunate to sleep well - what a gift.). I do work out at a gym once or twice a week for strength mostly, take a weekly yoga class, take my two black labs for walks daily rain or shine, and do heavy gardening nine months out of the year. I eat a mostly plant based clean diet and have recently increased my protein intake following the breast cancer in accordance with my healthcare’s recommendations. Overall, I feel good at this age because I am strong and flexible and can do many of the things I did when I was much younger. I also modify my expectations, so that I’m not constantly disappointed at my limitations but appreciate my strengths, like feeling comfortable in my own skin, accepting and loving myself, speaking freely with almost anyone, being a trusted support and advisor to my family and to younger people in my life, and being a helpful friend and neighbor. I do feel I have more wisdom and a clearer perspective on life, people and the world now and am much more outwardly focused. For this I am grateful.

Taking care of your teeth can come back to bite you - crowns, root canals especially can reak havoc on your teeth in 20 years. I'm not sure what the alternative is, but if you're 40+ and have a dentist who seems a little crown happy, you may try another one. This is a hugh problem at 60+. The fixes are hugely expensive and who or what info can you even trust? Chewing food is difficult and sometimes I've had to walk around for months with a missing tooth. Right now I have a nice smile and am contimplating implant bridges for my bottom back teeth so I can eat better. This is hugely expensive. I wish there was a less expensive good alternative.

Agreed. Teeth are so important. I’ve always taken good care of mine and see my dentist twice a year. Last year I had to have a tooth pulled because it was cracked down to the root. The dental implant process was lengthy and expensive (wish I kept that dental insurance!), but I’m happy with the outcome. I’m trying to be more careful with foods like popcorn (my go-to snack) to avoid breaking other teeth. It’s truly disappointing that our standard healthcare coverage doesn’t include teeth, hearing aids and vision. All important for enjoying quality of life. The separate dental and vision insurance plans don’t cover much.

I can still get down to the ground and up fine.
      I have wrinkles which I don't like.
I know nothing about aging. This happening to me is a total surprise.
I never went through menopause. My periods stop in my late 30s. I was on a medication that my body seemed to have a problem with. I told my doctor, all he said was " you didn't like having periods anyway.

You really do have to be careful with prescription medications. Just because it's a prescription from a doctor doesn't mean your own body can tolerate it.
I had migraines since I was a child. I actually had headaches a lot. Starting before I entered school age. They continued into adulthood. I finally went to a neurologist. I was diagnosed with cluster headaches and migraines. I was put on a medication . The medication the neurologist put me on did nothing. My regular doctor put me on a medication that was supposed to help. In my 30s I stated having chest pains. She didn't examine me, just said I was to young to be having a heart attack. A year or two later I was still having problems. My arm hurt. It felt heavy. Finally one of the women I worked with said I probably had bursitis. Go to the hospital and they'll give you a shot. So I did. However to my surprise, they admitted me to the hospital. It wasn't normal to not find a heartbeat or a pulse they said. Anyway I nearly lost my limbs or I could have died. In the hospital they were still giving me my medication for migraines because I was still having them. A doctor they found finally figured it out. It was the medication for my migraines.
So I am extremely careful what I take. I had total knee replacement surgery. One in Jan 2020 and the second November 2022. I always let doctors know my history with medication. Anyway the first one the pain medication was causing kidney problems. I had to go off the pain medication. My doctor put me on a pain patch. It wad perfect. So my second surgery I used the pain patch. The pain patch you don't have chemicals going through your body.

I'm a "dresses only" kind of gal and found that the bust-waist-hips sizing in standard dresses doesn't match me anymore for this reason. If you have trouble sleeping, do not rule out sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea do not necessarily snore.
Often restless legs and sleep apnea go together. Also, if you constantly get up to go the the bathroom it may be because the sleep apnea disrupts your bodies ability to process sugar in the blood...the kidneys work overtime to rid the bloodstream of the excess sugar by making you need to pee all night. Once I got my cpap, I now sleep through the night, my blood sugar problems are gone and legs have settled down.

I swore I would never get injections or anything like that but I wasn’t expecting the old person frown. So I’m going to see about fixing that so I don’t look angry or miserable when I’m actual;y happy on the inside. The mid-section belly fat is 10x what it was when I was 50. That might be lack of exercise or eating to many sweets and cakes. So, I’m cutting sweets out and starting to ride my stationary bike everyday. My ankles and knees are starting to hurt when I walk a lot. That’s from an old ankle injury when I was in my 30’s. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse well to make sure none is left in your ears. Problem solved. I got this tip from my dermatologist who told me it’s a form of seborrheic dermatitis that a lot of us get as we age.

I thought exzema is a gut issue. Diet has so much to do with the biome of your stomach/ intestines. And it makes sense that as we age that biome isnt as rich with many different ki ds of good bacteria.

Have the itchy ears, but found it was caused by reaction to a cream I have used for 3 years. My skin has always been sensitive and dry and has gotten worse. The doctor suggested vitamin E for my ears. Plastic coating, punch a small hole, and squeeze a drop or two in each ear canal. The outer portion of the ear I use Vaseline. Both really help with the itching.
Osteoarthritis and gout come visiting as you get older.
Balance can become more of an issue. If you live alone, you have to maintain body strength. Otherwise, if you fall and are unable to get up, you may be lying on the floor quite a few days before you are found. This happened recently to someone I know. I practice getting up and down off the floor and trying to remember to have my phone near me at all times. RUclips has some excellent videos that show what to do should you fall and have no one to help. They also have videos that show how to improve your balance to reduce falling.

I'm 67 and I have the same attitude about it as nearly everything , F it . I don't go to doctors , you have an issue , they hand you a bag of pills , and 6 mos. to get an appt.. Muscle is gone , skin is sagging , ain't got "any" in almost 5 yrs. , and I'm still working . I ran into someone that I hadn't seen in yrs. , he said I looked "great" . Well I'd like to know who that old guy is that sneaks up behind me when I'm brushing my teeth .

I have realized at 69 that you can suddenly experience serious health problems. I had a (first) gallbladder attack last week, and now I'm recovering from surgery! Was never part of my plans for the week! My gallbladder was inflamed, diseased, and full of polyps, but I had no clue!

QUESTION: I thought my itchy ears might be due to menopause, but I’ve been diagnosed as estrogen dominant. And I understand that itchy ears can be because of falling estrogen… Does anyone know… Is it possible to have it both ways?? I’m 54 and have had itchy ears for 4 years! Been to many doctors. Was also told I had eczema, but I kind of thought the doctor was just grasping at straws. Got ears swabbed for fungal and bacteria. Also took a round of antibiotic ear drops and bought 2 additional drops from Amazon. Nothing seems to work. My next step was to try a low histamine diet. It’s maddening!

    • @ThinkerLady
      @ThinkerLady  5 месяцев назад +1

I don't know much about estrogen dominance but have read that it is more about depletion of progesterone at a higher rate than estrogen. I think you could still have low estrogen, just progesterone is lower. You could ask a doctor for clarification.

Everyone is different and suffer from different things. I’m about to turn 60 and have 4 older sisters, 65, 67, 70 and 72. My eldest sister is fitter than I am. I’ve never done any sport in my early years, yet have severe arthritis in my knees and some in my hands. And sleep is a battle.
I hear you with all the little things that manifest. All we can do is try and be as comfortable as we can. I get up, shower to go out, with hair and a little make up done.
    You look good for 67.

You must weight train with moderate to heavy weights because we loose muscle. There is a lot you can do. It's slow but progressive weight overload whey you exercise is the key. The mindset must be there.

  • @butterflygirl3359

I was ready for the weight gain and aches and pains. The things that shocked me about aging both occurred in my mid-forties; first, my eyesight went bonkers. I was always near-sighted but I became far sighted too, so I could no longer read menus etc. The second thing was downright disturbing. At around age 45, 60 and 70 year old grandpas started eyeing me up at the grocery store and in Starbucks. At first I thought I was imaging it but then I noticed 20 year old waitresses starting to flirt with my husband when we went out for dinner. Make no mistake about it. As men age, their value goes up and as women age, it goes down, down , down.

    • @ThinkerLady
      @ThinkerLady  5 месяцев назад +1

Yes, our value has been based in physical appearance. Men not so often even when young. We are more valuable overall though....men and women who have seasoned over time. (I want to think so). :-)

I too have several things you named.. Like the itch ears wow I didn't know that. My hair is falling out but long and no gray yet although it won't bother me. I'm about to be 62. I have a fairly descent cognitive decline. That is worrisome. I'm tired more but I sleep way less. I get 4-6 hours asleep. I also feel way more anxiety and depression than when I was younger I also have some weakness I had no idea why. I had vivid a few times so I figured a lot of the symptoms were from that. I have other issues but I'm sure y'all are getting tired of reading my post! 😄 Thank you! I'm new here. .

    I’ve acquired super power’s.
I can now scream internally at hypersonic levels
I’m able to detect BS in milliseconds
I can organize and clean without anyone noticing
I’ve developed a cloak of invisibility
I’m more adept than Houdini at escaping anything that confines and binds.
Streetlight flare as I approach them
I’d go on, but I don’t want to brag.
Has anyone else experienced these superpowers?🦸
